Modern Au, Hiccstrid having Zephyr early in their twenties

The sound of the baby monitor broke Astrid from her dreams. Cuddled up close to Hiccup, she glanced at the clock, moaning softly so as not to wake Hiccup, who was still sleeping quietly next to her, his arm wrapped around her stomach. It was three in the morning, luckily it was the beginning of the weekend. She carefully removed his arms from her middle, but without meaning to, she woke him up with this touch. "I'm sorry, hun, but the baby is crying, I think she's hungry," Astrid apologized to him. Still a little sleepy, she traced the fine contours of his jawline and enjoyed the dreamy, amorous smile that her boyfriend gave her. “It’s okay.” Yawning, he sat up and pushed the blanket aside. “Hiccup, what are you doing there? I can get her.” He waved her hand and slipped on his slippers and bathrobe to go to the door. "Don't worry, you've had it stressful enough the last few days with the birth." Still a little sleepy, Hiccup staggered out the door of the room they'd been sharing in their little apartment.

Exhausted, Astrid let herself fall back into the soft pillows. Hiccup was right, there had been a lot going on in the last few weeks. When she found out she was pregnant, she was kicked out of her job at the gym because they no longer had any use for her now that she had become pregnant. Which is why she was dismissed without notice. She and Hiccup had actually planned to get enough money together before they thought about having children. But fate had another plan for her when one day the pill stopped working because Astrid had recently had a Cystitis. For the rest of the months, Astrid tried to apply to all the companies, but every one of them rejected her and only because she was expecting a child soon. She had been so upset about this in the last few weeks of her pregnancy that she had a rather turbulent premature birth. But luckily for her and her little daughter, everything went well. Just as she had finished that thought, Hiccup came back with the crying little Zephyr clinging to him with her small, delicate hands. He gently and lovingly placed Zephyr on her mother's chest, where she clung to a scrap of cloth again to signal that she was hungry. “All right, my darling,” Astrid whispered to her and stroked her delicate head, which already had light roots of chestnut brown hair. Astrid pulled out one of her breasts and let her little girl suckle on it. She felt Hiccup put his arm around her and take her into his arms so that Astrid could snuggle up to him. When little Zephyr was finally finished and snuggled up quietly against her mother, Astrid began to hum a quiet song that sent her back to dreamland. After a few minutes she had already fallen into a deep sleep and Hiccup took her back to her room before snuggling back into bed with Astrid. “I hope she can sleep again now,” he said. Yawning, she rubbed her eyes. "Yeah, I just hope I can do that too." Hiccup pulled his legs to his chest and nudged her affectionately with his shoulder. "Otherwise we'll talk a bit more, maybe you can fall asleep again?" Astrid raised an eyebrow: "About what? Money? You know that if we're unlucky, we won't be able to pay the rent at the end of this month." "I know, I'll ask the bank tomorrow if they'll give me a loan, otherwise I might have to ask for a raise, even if I think so My boss won't give it to me so easily." "But you're one of his best employees," said Astrid and snuggled up on his shoulder. Hiccup gently stroked her fingers that were resting on his shoulder and looked deep into her eyes. “I know, darling. Only the pandemic two years ago wasn’t particularly good for our company; many were laid off.” He sighed heavily. “We can do it. Somehow." "As long as we're together, we can do anything," whispered Astrid, who had now wrapped her arms around him and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "I love you." "I love you too," Hiccup whispered, resting his forehead against hers. “But we should sleep, otherwise we won’t wake up at all tomorrow.”

Plans for today

A small one-shot about Hiccup and Astrid's relationship after the divorce. (Modern AU, Valentine’s Day, Divorce AU)

“Today is Valentine's Day”

Astrid's voice made Hiccup come back to reality and realize that he was still watching after their children with his hand raised and a silly smile on his face. A little embarrassed, he rubbed his overgrown stubble. 

“Oh... really? I completely forgot about it, to be honest.” 

They were standing near his car, under a lush fir tree. The February wind stirred it, causing snow to fall from the branches. The rising sun gilded the snowflakes as they scurried in the frosty air. 

Astrid chuckled. 

“Oh, why am I not surprised?”

“You know I'm not really interested… In all this,” Hiccup replied with a vague wave of his hand and looked at his ex-wife. “Do you have any plans for today?”

“Well, Thuggory invited me to his city. Again. I'm not up to dating right now,” Astrid shrugged casually and added, noticing that Hiccup's eyebrows went up questioningly. “Children, work… You know.”

“Yes...” sighed Hiccup, creating a new cloud of steam. 

Astrid leaned against his car, and Hiccup noticed that her jacket was not buttoned up to the end. He was always struck by the equanimity with which his ex-wife treated Berk's frosts. However, this attitude did not apply to children – especially after the birth of Nuffink, who was always a rather sickly child – so Hiccup had no reason to worry.

 The shadows of Zephyr and Nuffink flashed in the window of a small cottage. Hiccup could almost see his son wiping his nose with his sleeve every now and then, as his daughter impatiently circled the room, wanting to tell her mother how the hike went. 

“I can take the children to my place for two more days if you don't mind”

Astrid snorted and looked at him. Surprise and amusement mixed in her gaze. 

“So I can meet Thuggory?” Astrid drew her eyebrows together in disbelief, holding back a smile. Hiccup shrugged his shoulders. 

“Well, I think you need a rest.”

“Oh, I had a great rest while you three were camping. Don't worry, I'll find time for sex.”

“That's comforting.”

Astrid laughed out loud, throwing her head back – this gesture, which Hiccup had forgotten about, caused a special smile on his face. 

“Since you're here, you could help me with breakfast,” Astrid said, heading towards the house. She stopped halfway and smiled teasingly over her shoulder. “Unless, of course, you have plans for today.”

“I'm always free for you, my lady,” Hiccup smiled wryly and spread his hands.

Astrid was confused for a moment when she heard the old nickname, but she smiled again and continued walking through the snow. It seemed to Hiccup that the smile that returned to her face was a little more gentle than the previous one. He pushed the thought away.

A Wish for Snoggeltog 🎄🎄

A little perplexed, Astrid pulled away from her husband a little, but didn't stop stroking his shoulders. "Hiccup, darling, why didn't you tell me about this sooner? Were you afraid that the same thing would happen again as when Nuff was born?" Hiccup nodded sadly. “I was so afraid for you. You know I can’t imagine life without you.” “I know, love. But you should have told me that." Hiccup played with his fingers without looking his wife in the eyes, which she didn't particularly like. "Hiccup, look at me," she said softly, using her thumb and forefinger to turn his chin toward her so that he could only look at her. “Astrid, I know what you want to say now. That it was a stupid idea and you don't want any more children. I accept that, of course.” Hiccup gestured wildly with his arms until Astrid grabbed both of his arms so tightly that he could no longer move them. "Astrid, what's this?" She gently let go of his arms again. “Hiccup, I also want to tell you something else about that.” His eyes widen. “I want another baby too. I wanted to tell you because I didn't want to scare you more. I know you have nightmares, even if you don’t want to talk about them.” A small tear ran down Hiccup's cheek, he took Astrid in his arms and hugged her tightly. "Are you sure?" Astrid nodded and stood up. “As sure as I was on our wedding day,” she said. "But you have to promise me something from today on." Hiccup nodded. “From now on, tell me if you have nightmares again. Only together we are strong.” “I promise you.” With these words he kissed her hand as his personal sign of promise. Astrid smiled at him and let the fur fall that was wrapped around her naked body.

It was two weeks after Snoggeltog, and although it was still freezing cold outside, the spring sun was slowly making its way through the thick cloud cover. It was still early in the morning and the children were still asleep. As long as Hiccup didn't have to leave that morning to attend to his responsibilities as chief, he made breakfast for his family. Then Astrid opened the door to the kitchen. She gave Hiccup a kiss on the cheek before sitting on the family table and watching him cook. A broad grin on her lips. “What made your day?” he said, returning her grin. "Hiccup, I'm pregnant again." Hiccup dropped the wooden spoon, a smile full of love spread across his lips. "Is that true?" Astrid nodded. That's all Hiccup needed, he took his beautiful wife in his arms and peppered her with hundreds of kisses. Hopefully everything would go well. Hopefully. He hoped that not only for Astrid but also for the baby that was now on the way.

Seeing Hiccup dancing with Zephyr in Snoggletog log (like my god my favourite part of the short) just makes me think (as always) that he would definitely dance with his daughter at every function you can name. All throughout her life.
