VAYDA SHARES NEW SINGLE “TAHITI” (FEAT. ZELOOPERZ)
Following her recent stint opening for Veeze on his Ganger tour, Pigeons & Planes2024 Rising Artist to WatchVayda has just shared her new single "tahiti" (feat. Zelooperz). Bolstered by a glittery beat, "tahiti" (feat. Zelooperz) is a bubbly outing rooted in Vayda's signature playful bravado. Continuing to embrace her distinct sped-up sound, the internet it-girl channels her explosive outbursts of thought into two-minute tracks, defying typical song structure with easy-flowing delivery, ethereal production, and off-kilter wordplay. Out now, "tahiti" (feat. Zelooperz) further solidifies the Atlanta native's status as “The South’s Newest Sound.
The ongoing online trend of uptempo, genre-bending tracks is showing no signs of slowing down, and Vayda is using that to her advantage. She’s already released a strong run of singles this year, including "HILARY DUFF" with ATTNWHORE, “Witness” (feat. 25streak), “PERFECT” (with Mercury and BISKHIT), "Baby Baby", and "i might jus", which arrived following guest appearances on "cult classic" from Amindi's new project Take What You Need and Then Some as well as New Jersey neo-pop/R&B artist GROOVY's recent song "SUMN". While Vayda always knew she’d be a trendsetter — she's using 2024 to prove it.

Danny Brown, Hook, and Bruiser Wolf at Irving Plaza
On Saturday, March 16, 2024, the tour in support of Danny Brown’s Quaranta came to New York City for a date at Irving Plaza. There were opening sets by his tourmates Bruiser Wolf (of Detroit, MI) and Hook (of Riverside, CA), and Danny performed in NYC on his 43rd birthday.
I covered the fun show for Impose Magazine and this was my first time catching a live set from Brown in a really long time, and I’m so grateful that I was able be there. The full gallery on Impose can be found here.

"Kick Off" by Zelooperz ft. Quadie Diesel
MG:
There are some great bars on “Kick Off,” ones you can clearly decipher, like “Where’s my inhaler?/ I’m winded!” but Zelooperz (specifically) and Quadie Diesel also did this to www.genius.com/Zelooperz-and-quadie-diesel-kick-off-lyrics:
[?]
[?] Bon Jovi
[?] chop the anchovy
[?] goulash [?] pierogi
[?] so hot he started erosion
[?] start the propulsion
Poppin' the pills [?]
I can’t tell you what the [?] are either, other than they’re definitely words, more than one. The charming, off kilter delivery that put Bruiser Brigade on the map a decade ago is just as fun and idiosyncratic now. If “Kick Off” is about anything more than its own vibrancy, the world will never know.
DV:
It's been over a decade since RapGenius dot com has been the internet's main destination for lyrics, and it's stuff like [?] that gives me hope for the future. These are well-worn complaints (over a decade old, not exclusively mine) but for the record since it has been a decade: a song is not its lyrics, it's also the production and instrumentation; a lyric's meaning is about the delivery and flow and cadence and emphasis as much as the words, and this is especially true of rap; the way that Genius's UI displays annotations presents a unified and singular interpretation when often there are double or triple meanings to a lyric, this is true even if the site's "correct" meaning is accurate at all, and this is especially true of rap; also aren't the founders pieces of shit? Anyway. "Kick Off" is irreducible to its component parts, a vertiginous experience of a song that resists sense even in the lines you can make out without a microscope. We live in an era of hypersurveillance, where everything becomes data and data becomes product and product becomes the limitations on our lives and possibilities. In this context, something unknowable can sound radical.
