Zelda: No, there is absolutely no way we use the same chapstick, because it was only sold in castle town shop one hundred years ago and they discontinued it, and I loved it so much that I bought the last of their stock, and I keep it in my freezer so it doesn't go bad. It's been discontinued for 100 years. No one uses the same chapstick for 100 years. So unless you've been eating a whole fuck ton of something that's flavored like chocolate and popcorn, you absolutely stole my fucking chapstick.

Paya: Chocolate and popcorn?

Link: Why do you think it got discontinued?

Link in a talking head: it was me, I stole it. I thought it was candy, then Paya kissed me.

The concept of Zelpaya in my BOTW Role Reversal AU is so sweet, I love it.

Imagine: you're the princess of Hyrule, a fresh amnesiac who was told you nearly died a century ago and your loyal knight temporarily sealed away the Calamity, which is coming back. You don't know how you feel about Link, but people tell you you loved him. It must be true, but you're not sure how to feel.

Then you meet Paya, a sweet girl whose grandmother (an old friend of yours) tells her to accompany you on your mission to save Hyrule. You travel together, strangers, trying to free the Divine Beasts and figure out your own past.

You're grateful for Paya's help, but as time goes on, you start to feel conflicted. You like her. You REALLY like her. But what about Link? He was close to you once. If he's alive, how would he feel? Would he support you? Still love you? Do you still love him? You don't have enough memories to say.

And even when you get your memories, what then? You never had the chance to love before. Your life was expectation after expectation. You don't know how to love. You've never truly tried. Will Paya feel the same? How should you go about it? This is a girl who's seen you at your worst.

She saw you blow yourself up with a bomb once, and laughed when you accidentally broke your cryonsis rune and fell into a river. Yet she still sees you as a princess. How will you make it work?

The ghost of your father told you, back on the Great Plateau, how much he regrets stifling your freedom and wants you to do what makes you happy. Would he approve if you were with Paya? Do you care? It's hard to say.

There's so much to figure out, so much you're unsure of. But you know one thing: you love Paya. So you're willing to take a chance.

After a few days in Kakariko Village, Link brought Zelda to his house in Hateno. She was so eager to finally see it but on the other hand Link was nervous and did his best to hide his insecurity. He was a little embarrassed and wanted to know what Zelda would think of the house before admitting that he had actually bought it for her.

"Zelda is a Princess" he told himself. "She is used to castles and luxury... This house is smaller than her royal bedroom! "

But no. Zelda's reaction surprised him. Pleasantly surprised him. In fact, his nervousness level cranked up quite a bit 🤭

Little did Link know that Zelda's most secret wish was to share a cozy little house...with him ❤️

And the best thing about Link's house? Yes, you know what it is... There is only one bed 😉

The pain dulled. She no longer wanted to vomit, though her hands wouldn’t stop shaking. As the dizziness lessened somewhat, Purah patted Zelda on the back and gently urged her to sit up straight.

“It’s almost funny,” she said with a tight smile. “Linky always felt like this right before…” She trailed off, stricken by her own words.

And Zelda understood. She felt that same horror, that same sickness.

No, she thought, and her nausea grew again, but it was sheer fear this time. No, no.

Outside, the screams began.

No! Zelda thought desperately. She smelled sulphur.

“PURAH! PRINCESS!�� Robbie burst in, chest heaving. His goggles were askew. He was white as snow. “It’s-” He choked, gesturing frantically outside.

Purah ran past him. On shaking legs, Zelda hurried after her.

Everyone in Lookout Landing was facing the sky. The sky, which was deep black, streaked with red clouds. The sky, the sky, it was always the sky, full of embers and ashes. 

Almost perfectly above them, for the first time in six years, the moon rose full and red.

Zelda reaches Lookout Landing. The relief of reuniting with her friends wears off as more mysteries arise, and things quickly go from bad to worse.
