“Who will the girl choose? wondered Dandelion. Neither of them - the Witcher nor the enchantress - will take a step nor make a gesture. Which will she approach first? Him? Or her? Ciri did not walk to either of them. She was unable to decide. Instead of moving, she fainted.” - The Time of Contempt
I remember laughing hard at this scene. So it’s no surprise I had fun drawing this bit :))

I'm in a writing slump 🙃
Have some... Well, whatever this turns out to be!
--------------
Yennefer brushed her fingers languidly through Triss' auburn locks, gently twisting the strands around her fingers before pulling them through, drawing a contented hum from the woman whose head was nestled on her lap, arms wrapped around her waist.
The raven-haired woman smiled down at her lover, her nails gently scratching at the nape of Triss' neck, then at the base of her skull, watching with amusement as the tension in the younger woman's body began to melt away.
A set of footsteps, light and carefully placed, brought her attention from one lover to the other, bringing a soft smile to Yen's lips as Triss let out a soft breath in the deepest of sleep.
Francesca came to perch beside Yen on the grass, tucking her long legs up close to her body as Yen leaned her head onto her shoulder.
"I've been looking for you, my raven." Francesca hummed, her voice a soft melody to Yen's ears. "I see you've been hiding from me."
"I would never." Yen scoffed, a smirk tugging at her pink lips. "But you must admit that the sunset is beautiful."
"It is, though not nearly as beautiful as you." Francesca replied, tilting Yen's head back slightly, her fingers pressed to the soft skin just beneath her chin, before kissing the dark-haired woman beside her.
Yen wrapped her free arm around Francesca's waist, tugging herself closer to the Elven Queen, parting her lips to Francesca's probing tongue. They remained together for several long moments, finally parting with soft huffs as they brought air back into their lungs.
Francesca looked down at Triss' sleeping form, a smile tugging at her lips, before her own hand joined Yen's in brushing out those long, auburn locks. Triss jolted then, just slightly, her cornflower blue eyes blinking open and gazing up into the adoring faces of the two women she had come to call home. She smiled back, nestling against Yen's abdomen before pushing herself upright, wiping the sleep from her eyes.
"Sorry... I nodded off." Triss yawned, pushing loose strands of hair back from her face.
"All the more reason to come to bed then, my darlings. It's getting quite late." Francesca replied, a slight purr to her voice as she stood from the ground, brushing blades of grass from the skirt of her dress.
Yen's eyes darkened slightly at the implication, while Triss' cheeks grew red at the thought, a shudder rushing through her as they both followed Francesca's lead, making their way back into the castle of Dol Blathanna.
Once their bedroom door shut behind them, and a sound shield was put in place, did the three women fall into the more carnal needs that their bodies required.

TRANSLATION ERROR: HOW DO HALF-FOOT NAMES WORK?
So, there are several translation issues in the official English release of Dungeon Meshi. One of them is the information about how half-foot names work.
Official translation: Names are composed of a first name, a last name, and their father’s first name plus “s” or “z.” For example, Chilchuck’s first name is “Chil,” his last name is “Chuck,” and his father’s name is “Tim”+s. Chilchuck’s daughters’ family names are either “Chilz” or “Chils.” Only people who are very close to an individual call them by their first name on its own. Machine translation, confirmed by a human translator: It is composed of the first name, the second name, the first name of the father, and then either "u" or "z". For example, Chilchuck's first name is "Chill" + "second name" (Chuck) + "father's name" (Tim) + "s". The family name of Chilchuck's daughter is "Chilz" or "Chils". Only close friends call each other by their first name.
In Japanese, first/personal/given names are called mei (名, name) or shita no namae (下の名前, lower name). Family name/last name/surname can translate into three different Japanese words, myōji (苗字), uji (氏), and sei (姓).
The original Japanese text doesn’t use any of these standard words for first or last name at all, most likely to try and avoid exactly this confusion.
For Chilchuck, it uses 前名 (“before” + “name”) and 後名 (“back” + “name”), which are not normally used in Japanese to refer to a person’s personal name and family name, and when used together like this implies a two-part personal name (Chilchuck).
So Yen Press incorrectly states that “Chuck” is Chilchuck’s last name when the Japanese says 後名 (back name), and then correctly translates that his daughters’ family name (ファミリーネーム, family name written phonetically in katakana) is Chilz/Chils.
Kui most likely purposefully used the katakana phrase “family name” to make sure people understood that when she called Chuck his back name (後名), she did not mean last name/surname/family name.
So this caption should have been translated as something like:
“Half-foot names are composed of a personal name, which is made of a first part and a second part, followed by their family name, which is their father’s first name plus “s” or “z.”
Something that would have made this much easier to translate would be if Kui had called Tims and Chilz/Chils patronymics, which is the real world terminology for the type of name she's describing. As it is, the translators probably weren't familiar with patronyms and didn't recognize what Kui was talking about, and didn't proof-read their work sufficiently to catch that their translation was confusing and misleading.
A patronym is a name based on the personal name of one's father, grandfather, or an earlier male ancestor. Traditional patronymics like this change with every generation, which is what Kui describes the half-foots doing.
Over time a patronym sometimes gets “stuck” and becomes a hereditary patronymic surname instead of just a patronym. For example, the hereditary name Johnson originally meant that someone was the son of John, but the name became a fixed, hereditary surname, and now every generation of the family is called Johnson, no matter what their father’s personal name was.
If the half-foots had patronymic surnames/last names/family names, then Chilchuck's daughters would also be named Tims, but they're not, so we know that the last part of their names are actually just traditional patronymics.
So which part of Chilchuck Tims’ name is his last name/family name/surname?
Though it's really not a last name, Chilchuck's patronymic, Tims, functions the same way as a hereditary surname would function for someone else. Tims is the patronymic that he inherited from his father’s first name, which was Tim. It’s the name that connects him to his father and shows that they are related. For his daughters, their patronymic is Chilz/Chils, the name they inherited from Chilchuck, and that shows that they are related.
BONUS
Half-foot culture appears to be predominately Irish and Hebrew. This is interesting, because Irish is a Gaelic culture. Welsh is another Gaelic culture, and the way Welsh patronymic surnames developed is similar to Kui's half-foot naming system.
Historical Welsh names sometimes included references to several generations: e.g., Llywelyn ap Gruffydd ap Morgan (Llywelyn son of Gruffydd son of Morgan), and which gave rise to the quip, "as long as a Welshman's pedigree."
During the Anglicization process, ap Gruffydd was turned into Gruffydds; i.e., the "ap" meaning "son of" was replaced by the genitive suffix "-s", but there are also cases like "ab/ap Evan" being turned into "Bevan."
In some cases the "ap" coalesced into the name in some form, like ab Rhydderch becoming Broderick, ap Rhys becoming Price, and ap John becoming Upjohn.
(This is an excerpt from my essay on real world cultural and linguistic references in Dungeon Meshi. See chapter 8 for more information about Chilchuck and his daughter's names, and the real world influences in half-foot culture.)

Hullo! I was wondering, is there info anywhere on how much a madol/thaumark is worth? Like, do we have any ideas about what a potential rate of exchange is or something like X number of thaumarks is expensive, Z number is cheap?
Hello hello! Thank you for this question! :>
While not explicitly stated anywhere, the original game's "madol" might be based on Japanese yen, while EN's "thaumarks" are likely based on USD!
Tumblr media
While not the case at the moment due to the weakened yen, it used to be that 1 yen = 1 cent USD, and thus 100 yen = 1 dollar USD, which is how the currency was updated for EN: take the original price of something and remove the last two digits, and you have your madol-to-thaumark exchange rate!
Here are some examples from in-game:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
An interesting result of this rate-exchange is that it was not updated within the game mechanics in the move to EN!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This makes sense as EN players would require far fewer thaumarks for shop purchases and leveling if the exchange rate was obeyed, but it means that EN players are paying $80,000USD for leveling that technically only costs $800USD.
The two zeroes are being removed from dialogue, but kept in tact everywhere else!
This change over from yen to USD resulted in a challenge for Aniplex USA: sometimes characters will say that something costs 1 madol, which is 0.01 thaumarks. As 1 madol = 1 yen (1 cent USD) this is something the original game can do with madols, but EN cannot do with thaumarks.
Aniplex USA's solution? Invent an entirely new form of currency that does not exist in the original game! :> Thus "sorcents" were born!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Interestingly, there have been at least two instances of EN not adhering to its own exchange rate:
Tumblr media
The Albert chain that Kalim loans to Lilia is said to be 10,000,000 madol/yen which should be only 100,000 thaumarks/USD, but it was translated literally as "10 million thaumarks," instead.
Tumblr media
And in the Prologue the chandelier is 1 billion madol/yen, so it should be only 10 million thaumarks/USD, but for some reason it was translated literally as "1 billion thaumarks," instead. Interesting!
A few more examples of the exchange rate at work:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jamil haggles for a lamp during Firelit Sky, getting it down from 10,000 madol/yen (100 thaumarks/USD) to 7,000 madol/yen (70 thaumarks/USD).
Tumblr media
Ruggie sells 30 cat carvings to Kalim for 60,000 madol/yen (600 thaumarks/USD).
Tumblr media
Ruggie asks about a jeweled bracelet valued at 1,000,000 madol/yen (10,000 thaumarks/USD).
Tumblr media
Jamil calculates for Grim how two shares of the 5,000,000 madol/yen (50,000 thaumarks/USD) prize for winning the VDC equals 1,420,000 madol/yen (14,200 thaumarks/USD).
