‘I'm here,’ Yukari calls, and it’s instinctive, almost familiar. She says it when they’re meeting up for a meal despite their hectic schedules, when they’re making their way through a crowd and panic starts to flood IA’s veins – when they’re clumsily reaching for each other’s hands, guided by nothing but their hearts.

IA finds comfort in this familiarity. She can’t find her way out of a paper bag to save her life, but she can map out the lilt of Yukari’s voice and the ridges of her knuckles, warm and weathered and beautiful. She can navigate the stars behind her eyelids when they kiss, the trembling glide of hands on skin.

And Yukari lets her. Yukari lets her indulge in her kindness, lets her stray and explore as much as she dares. IA can’t find it in herself to have courage, but Yukari makes her want to be brave.

When IA has had enough of the world, tired and bruised and on the verge of giving up, Yukari is there waiting, smile bright and arms outstretched. Ready to catch her if she falls, ready to start again.

‘I’m here,’ Yukari calls, and IA is home.

Kayli Stoneclaw, Human Fighter.

Val’s childhood friend and first love. When they met again years later, it was under very different circumstances.

Vanga the Merciless, Orc Fighter.

Unlike most Orcs, she has a fairly even temper.

Captain Navari, Tiefling Druid.

She makes a living as a smuggler on the high seas. Her ship is the Lady Ceto. She is a Wild Shape, and one of her forms is a Megalodon. She and Erryn have a relationship of sorts, and she has offered Erryn a place at her side.

Venzanya “Ven”, Half-Elf Mage.

Navari’s first mate and closest friend.

Hamlin Redgrave, Human Swashbuckler.

Navari’s second mate. When they go on land, as him pose as the Captain to avoid unwanted attention. He is a Wereshark.

Morodar, Half-Orc Fighter/Swashbuckler.

He serves as Navari’s Bosun.

Yukaria “Kari”, Tiefling Bard.

A member of Navari’s crew.

Alexandre Surcouf, Elf Orc Swashbuckler.

A privateer Captain who was raised by Humans in the D&D equivalent of France.

The main characters of my fantasy series.

Quick note: Several characters belong to an original race known as the Boreades. They resemble Humans but have blue skin, crowns of vestigial horns, and extremely low body temperatures. They live in the kingdom of Canterrath, and their written language is literally just Greek.

The Shadow Bandits: Mercenary Protagonists

Valerius “Val” Ironshade, Human Fighter.

His equipment is identical to that of a Spartan, but with steel instead of bronze. He is Erryn’s best friend.

Erryn Damoxath, Triton Fighter.

She wears armor made from the hide of a Leviathan that her people killed on the day she was born. She is Val’s best friend.

Luxia “Lux”, Boread Fighter.

Her equipment is based on that of a Viking warrior. She is Khione’s lover.

Princess Khione, heir to the Frozen Throne of Canterrath.

Although she is heir to the throne, she prefers a life outside the kingdom as part of the Shadow Bandits. She is Lux’s lover.

Leoric Swiftguard, Elf Ranger.

The only left-handed member of the Shadow Bandits. He is Nephreus’ lover.

Nephreus, Tiefling Bard.

Grew up on a farm. When he left and learned to fight, he turned the farming tools he already had - sickles and scythes - into weapons. He is Leoric’s lover.

Elwir, Aasimar Cleric.

He is a sex addict, but he knows how to manage it.

Sylvaris, Half-Elf Rogue.

Her sword is a Colichemarde - the same type used by George Washington. It resembles a rapier and is wielded like one, but the bottom third of the blade is thickened, enabling it to block heavy blows from slashing weapons.

Since we didn’t get a Ghost type with the Willisp line it only makes sense we get one now. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, but that’s more my own fault than anything.

Yukaria is a good mix of cute and creepy, especially when you notice what looks like four more eyes above the first. Also pay attention to it’s tail, which has a blade that wouldn’t look out of place on a pendulum. The Pokedex entry also mentions how it mimics the laughter of children, which goes together with it’s cute appearance as well.

Necrosia becomes Ghost/Dark, with the lack of super effective attacks, since this is pre Gen 6 rules. Now here’s the thing, I like Yukaria much more than Necrosia. It has a completely different theme going for it than before, going from a creepy cute child mimic to an unliving swiss army knife. It’s got sharp edges and blades all over, and it’s got a maniacal grin with only two eyes, losing those extra four eyes Yukaria has. The two don’t share much at all, which is a shame. Necrosia really doesn’t go anywhere with the potential Yukaria had. That being said, Necrosia is fine enough on it’s own, but Yukaria is superior

The Yukaria line starts strong, but it’s evolution is too far removed from what makes the first one cool. For this reason, the Yukaria line gets two ridiculously buff Pikachu out of five.

Day 5 Defense Team! Since it’s Pocky Day and all, I decided to run Asusasa, because 1) OTP, and 2) I don’t see them around in Mirrors much, especially together.  They lost that match, by the way.

But! Then I decided that, ‘hey, a number of my otps are from Madomagi and/or Magireco, so let’s run some more!’

For some reason, this shot came out blurry. Dunno what happened. Anyways, my longest-standing OTP, Kyosaya! They won this one, actually, ‘cause Kyoko hits like a damn truck. (They’ve also both got 4 slots, and Kyak’s got 60/100 SE.) 

And the last of my OTP Dream Teams, Irosana! I thought about slapping Irokuro in too, but I was too lazy to swap out that many memos. So here’s Snaa protecting Iroha, except instead of facing Feathers, she’s facing Yozuru for some reason. They very much lost. Snaa has no SE.

I wish I could’ve run an Nayutan/Rabi team, but of course, I still don’t have Rabi >:(

day 28 | getting injured —iayukari; vocaloid drabble • 30 day otp challenge • 375 words

.

Yukari picks herself off the ground, casting a quick glance down to check for injures. She’s got a couple of scrapes here and there, nothing too serious, but –

‘Yukari.’

– IA’s here.

She winces, dread pooling in her stomach as she slowly turns to face IA. Her expression seems neutral as far as Yukari can tell, but it doesn’t look promising. ‘Uh. Hey.’

‘Hello.’ IA clears her throat, looking off to the side to avoid eye contact. Yukari doesn’t blame her; they haven’t seen each other since the ground-shaking argument they had two weeks ago. ‘I saw you fall – are you alright?’

‘Oh. Yeah.’ She dusts her clothes off self-consciously. ‘Yeah, no, I’m fine. No broken bones or whatever. Thanks for asking, though.’

‘That’s good.’ And then: ‘What were you planning to accomplish up in that tree?’

Yukari tries to hide her nervousness behind a bout of easy laughter. ‘So you saw that too, huh.’ When the light in IA’s gaze hardens, she deflates a bit. ‘The wind blew away my ribbon. I was just trying to get it back.’

IA blinks. ‘Ribbon?’

‘Yeah, the one you gave me last year. I think it landed somewhere over there – ’ She extends an arm outwards to point at the tree, only for IA to gasp in alarm and catch her by the wrist.

Ah. There’s a large gash running along the underside of her arm.

‘I’m taking you to the hospital.’

‘What?’ Yukari balks, digging her heels into the dirt to no avail. IA is awfully strong when she wants to be. ‘No way! I can take care of this myself – ’

‘I can’t believe you sometimes,’ IA mutters, not listening at all. ‘How you utterly failed to notice such a deep laceration wound is above and beyond my level of comprehension – ’

‘I still haven’t gotten my ribbon back – ’

IA pauses. Takes a moment to weigh her options. ‘Your well-being takes precedence over everything else,’ she tells Yukari very seriously. ‘I’ll buy you a new one later.’

Yukari sighs in resignation as IA continues to drag her along. Once her mind is made up, nothing short of a natural disaster can change her mind.

But at least, she thinks fondly, the world is bright again.
