You guys played against each other as fun for a little date idea and it ended up with you winning

While Yugi wasn’t going as hard as he usually tries, he did try a little so you winning would be seen as an accomplishment between the two of you

Honestly he didn’t really care that much

He loves you too much and is just happy that you’re happy

He’s the type of boyfriend that brags about his S/o’s accomplishments

Even if you don’t think it was that big of a deal

He started to move on from it until Joey brought up that you should have a rematch

To be fair Yugi just thought of it as a little fun game but now with his friends watching but unbeknownst to him, you didn’t feel the same

Which was the perfect opportunity for Joey to pick at your skin

Despite both of you loving the same person (just in a different way) you two absolutely hated eachother

Which is honestly surprising

It’s because you’re both jealous of each other

He noticed how unwilling you were to do it but he didn’t really bat an eye, if you don’t want to do something then he’s not going to make you

He talked to you about it later though and no matter you’re reason, he tried to understand

As long as you tell he what’s going on and are honest, he’ll never be mad at you

It doesn’t really matter how good of a player you are, he just wants you to be happy

However the only problem was how obvious it was that he was letting you win

He might have thought of it as a sweet gesture, but to you he was just humiliating you

It’s was just embarrassing how easy you could win against him

It took no longer than ten minutes and it left him him feeling humiliated

He just wanted to show off his skills

No only to you but also to his friend but it didn’t really turn out that way

You and him definitely had to cuddle at your house to make him less sad

Sure it was fun to win your little game between you two but you also felt bad at how sad and disappointed you got

You also didn’t want to purposely let him win because you were never a good liar so when he found out it would only make him feel worse

Instead you just never played with him again

It didn’t matter how many times he asked or why, you weren’t playing against him

He tried everything from bribery to begging and above

He just wanted to show off his skills but you never played against him

You watched him play against others and commented on how better he was getting though which made him happy enough

There might have been one or two times where you did give in and played against him but you let him win both times which pissed him off but you found it kind of funny

It doesn’t matter how tired he was when playing a simple game against you for mokuba he hands down believes you cheated

Like if he had to say you didn’t cheat or jump off a cliff, he choose the cliff

He straight up did not talk to you for a week until you told him you cheated which didn’t but you just wanted him to talk to you again

The only thing you cheated on were your exams at school

It made him feel a little better and he asked you to go again but this time no tricks and twists

He wanted to show off to Mokuba who kept talking about the match

But when you said no, he got mad all over again

Perfect Draw features a simple system of quick card and deck creation that is simple to pick up, but rewarding to those who put in the time and effort into learning it. Have you ever come across a game with a deckbuilding element? I've seen deckbuilding games with some roleplaying adjacent additions (Like the arkham horror card game), but not the other way around.

THEME: Deck-building Games

Hello friend, so I think I have a few that are in the same kind of field as deck-builders, although your mileage may vary. I certainly hope there are also folks who see this and know of some more games to add to this little list!

This Ship Is No Mother, by Thomas || New Madras.

This Ship Is No Mother is a game about people in space, working jobs that are probably going to get them killed. Inspired by movies like Alien and games like Mothership and Dread, this is for fans of tension, creepy-crawlies, and general horror. Mechanically, it's a card-based Forged in the Dark game, first in the series of games currently called the Cardsharp Sonata.

In this game, players start with a full deck of cards and as you play, that deck will run down. When the deck ends, there is a climactic moment of panic as one of the characters is going to do something stupid and get themselves (and maybe everyone else) killed.

I’d say that This Ship Is No Mother is kind of adjacent to a deck-building game. You use a regular deck of playing cards to resolve actions, but the resolution system takes inspiration from Blades in the Dark. Your cards don’t stay in your own personal deck; but you can choose to hold onto certain cards in your hand so that you can play them in dramatically appropriate moments, or spend them to make sure your character succeeds when they need to. The game was originally designed to run Mothership scenarios in a more story-game friendly way, so if you like Forged in the Dark mechanics, you might want to check out this game.

Perfect Draw!, by Double Summon Games.

Perfect Draw! is a tabletop role-playing game based on the Powered By The Apocalypse framework that combines Trading Card Games with collaborative storytelling - allowing you to tell stories similar to card game anime like Yu-Gi-Oh!, Duel Masters, and CardFight! Vanguard.

In Perfect Draw! you can make any deck you imagine using our open-ended card creation system - then, clash ideals with villains and allies alike in tense card game combat. Your deck is an extension of your beliefs and the blade that allows you to change the world. Use your passion, skill, and friendship to get the upper hand on foes and save the people you care about most!

Perfect Draw is a game in which you design your cards as you add them to your hand. Your cards exist as physical objects in your hand as you play, but they also represent special attacks and moves in the fiction of the game. As you play, you’ll gain more cards, but rather than relying on symbols or text to tell you what these cards do, you’ll have to author them yourself, using guidelines and inspiration from the specific character playbooks. You’ll also be rolling dice in the style of PbtA games, thus combining the feeling of a card duelling game and a TTRPG.

If you want to emulate the tropes of card-collecting games while designing your custom moves as you play, you might want to try out Perfect Draw!

Cardsharps, by Pageantry Games.

Armed with a deck of cards, this game helps you to nimbly guide your cast of characters on a merry waltz from mishap to catastrophe. For the tone, think of an old-timey farce, or a Coen Brothers movie, or perhaps your own muddled and terrifying existence.

Another game that uses playing cards, Cardsharps looks like it can fit a number of settings, with the four suits representing your stats. You shuffle your hand whenever you enter a test of some kind, and draw a random one - if you draw the Suit you need, you do it, if you get the same colour but wrong suit you get a mixed success, and if you draw the wrong colour completely, it’s a failure.

The randomness that comes from the shuffle reminds me a little bit of deck-building card games I’ve played in the past, although you’re not really adding anything to your hand. I think the core concept is interesting though, and might be something you could play around with to make a game that suits your tastes.

Orchidelirium, by Æther Corp.

Take on the mantle of a grizzled and hardy orchid hunter in 1865, traversing the depths of uncharted territories in search of rare, elusive, and above all, expensive orchids for your shady employer, J. Carmichael & Associates.

For the Games Master, Orchidelirium provides a simple ruleset, an adventure, and improvisation tools to help build an adventure of discovery at the table.

Orchidelerium is another game that uses playing cards with some cards in your hand being used as resources, while others are pulled from the deck to represent obstacles. I don’t know if it’s exactly a deck-building game because your hand is so small, but it does have a few similarities, namely the fact that different cards have different values, and thus will be used differently depending on the nature of the obstacle. The game itself revolves around orchid-hunters in the late 1800’s, which means that colonial themes are going to be present - a good thing to keep in mind when introducing this game to your play group.

Parselings, by Smunchy Games.

Parselings is a modern Deck building RPG about using collaborative word magic and discovering your place in it. The game takes place in a world like our own, but with one major difference – to some, words have literal power. Parsecytes, swarms of ravenous ink-like parasitic organisms, have emerged into the world causing irreversible changes to society and our ecosystem. 

When a Parsecyte invades a human host, it forms a symbiosis with them, together becoming an entity known as a Parseling. At a glance, Parselings are indiscernible from most other humans except for the labels on their skin and the ink mixed into their blood. When brought together in groups, these individuals become greater than the sum of their parts. The infected hosts can use their tattoos to form phrases and sculpt the world to their desires. This power has come to be known as a Parse.

You will play as one of these beings. Struggling to strike a balance between appeasing the Parsecyte within, and proving you are a complex human being who cannot only be defined by a few careless words. This is both a curse and a blessing, but with the others that share your affliction, the world is your oyster. 

This is the first game I think of when someone asks about deck-building ttrpgs. Each player gets a deck that uses regular playing cards to represent core aspects of your characters. The game isn’t dice-less - you still need some d6’s and d10’s - but those dice will only be rolled by the GM. Card decks aren’t the only interesting mechanic in Parselings - you’ll also construct pieces of your character with words that describe who they are and how they fit into the world around them. I think this might be a neat game to check out if you want to explore questions of identity while mixing in a little bit of the supernatural.

Smunchy Games has two supplements for Parselings: Infer Memorial Station, which works as an introductory adventure, and Nominal City Guide, a setting for groups to pick up and explore.

The whole Unity drama can really only be described as 'How to completely fuck yourself and everyone else over' but in a actually comedic how stupid this was kind of way.

Like let me explain.

Warning long post but for a good reason.

Unity practically runs (or soon to be ran) the mobile gaming spare. There's a reason for this as Unreal's mobile port kinda sucks(it's gotten somewhat better recently) and alternatives like Flash are dead.

So mobile games like

All Mihoyo/Hoyoverse games so far (Genshin Impact, Honkai Impact and Honkai Star Rail, Tears of Themis)

Disney's Twisted Wonderland

Yu GI Oh master duel

Marvel Clash

Pokemon Go

Among Us

Fate: Grand Order

Ensemble stars/Ensemble stars music

Obey Me/ Obey Me Nightbringer

Path to Nowhere

Arknights

Dislyte

Temple Run/Temple Run 2

Subway Surfers

And many many more will be affected by this change. In fact, it might just be easier to list the popular mobile games that don't use Unity.

Now from a purely capitalist point of view(and ignore common sense), every game I just listed there is a potential million dollars or more. A literal infinite money generator especially gacha games that thrive off of a install and uninstall loop.

But, there's no way they could actually enforce any of this.

Mihoyo/Hoyoverse and most Chinese gachas use a version of Unity that's only available in China and is basically it's own thing. Meaning that it's unlikely that the changes are actually going to affect them. But they did say the changes apply to 'emerging markets' so don't hold your breath.

Games like Twisted Wonderland, Fate: Grand Order, Pokemon Go etc. are licensed games aka they'll be messing with the likes of The Pokemon Company, Komani and Disney. Who would probably take them to court or shut down if it was barely profitable enough before than have less profit.

Game companies(mostly female focused ones) like Happy Elements(Ensemble stars) and Solmare(Obey Me) actually make more money from merch and irl events than the actual games.

Which leaves the rest. Who may not be able to get by. Like the creators of Among Us who would likely go bankrupt if this change were to happen. Or older games like Temple Run, Angry Birds and Subway Surfers who no longer make that sort of revanue anymore.

The problem is 'the rest' is basically 90% of the users of Unity on mobile and a giant chunk of the mobile gaming market.

So instead of an infinite money generator, most devs are going to shut down and either remake on a different engine or shut down completely.

The minority that can pay either might not have to (Chinese gachas) or are unlikely to/litigation bait.

So not only did Unity shoot themselves in the head but they somehow managed to put the billion dollar mobile gaming market in jeopardy.

And this is just mobile gaming, this doesn't include PC, Xbox, PS4 games. Unity is pretty easy to learn and was cheaper than Unreal for a beginner/ Indie dev so they basically dominated that market as well.

And the same problem persists there as well. Those who could afford it aren't going to pay and the majority of users can't actually pay the fee and are going to delist or switch. So the entire market ends up in jeopardy because it's at risk of losing a giant chunk of it.

All for an infinite money generator that anyone with a brain or at the very least had a basic understanding of the gaming market could see wasn't going to work.

The shortsightedness to even think this was going to work is astounding. The stupidity is astronomical.

SUBMISSIONS FOR THE LOSER'S BRACKET ARE OPEN!

Welcome to the Loser's Bracket submissions! If you don't know how it works, here's a rundown:

For about a week, I will have nominations open for the Loser's Bracket. Nominate as many characters as you want who were in the tournament but have lost, but do not nominate someone more than once or someone who wasn't in the main tournament. (All contestants who lost prior to the semifinals have a shot to be nominated.)

After the Loser's Bracket nominations have been recorded, I will take the top 16 most nominated characters and begin the Loser's Bracket, which will last 4 rounds. Each round will last only a day, unlike the main tournament, where each round lasted a week.

The winner of the Loser's Bracket will have an honorary place on the podium and be mentioned in the finals winners post.

All propaganda for the Loser's Bracket will be unique, so feel free to write more propaganda on why you think they deserve this second chance.

I will stop taking nominations the day that the semifinals poll is over, as I want to start the Loser's Bracket the day the finals go up.

Announcing Azure Week 2023

You ever spend so much time looking for a GIF or a video that you feel would be perfect for a post, only to, you know, NOT FIND IT? And you could spend time trying to make it yourself or dig deeper to really find it (because it's the Internet, it's got to be out there somewhere), but then you realize: what's the point? It's just an ACCESSORY to the post?

Yeah. That's this post.

I wanted to do the whole "I'm back, I'm bold, maybe even beautiful" from the DiC dub of Sailor Moon (I guess it was episode 45 of the dub, but 51 of the original series; the dub title was "Cherry Blossom Time," and I really, really wanted a GIF or video of Sailor Moon rising from the ground and giving her amazing speech), even though AZURE WEEK is coming up and has nothing to do with Sailor Moon whatsoever (unless you want it to).

(I wanted to post it because Tumblr had deleted my account for inexplicable reasons and I only recently got it restored. Whew!)

Anyway:

Anime of the Day: Tai Chi Chasers

[The Anime of the Day series will feature two anime each day from the list of shows that, for a variety of reasons, didn’t make it to the final list of shows that will be joining the tournament.]

“Five kids search for 500 missing Tai Chi characters.”

Summary:

The Tigeroids and Dragonoids, two races from another planet called Suhn, are at war with each other. Each side is looking for 500 missing Tai Chi characters, scattered across Earth, as possession of these characters will grant their holders power over their enemies. This is where we find the main characters, a group of kids sent to assist in searching for the characters.

Propaganda:

This show deals with a couple different heavy topics: the death of both parents and facing discrimination for being mixed race. Both of these happen to Rai, the main character, who is only a teenager. All of these kids are pretty young (most likely preteens to young teenagers), and they’re sent out to assist the adults (literally everybody else, including the enemies they go up against, are full-grown adults) with only one of the elders (who has to leave about halfway through the first season) and one of the white tiger spirits (a talking cat ironically named Hak (pronounced Hawk)). They’re literally just kids, and yet nearly every time they go up against their enemies, they come out on top. They’re able to master the powers of their Tai Chi characters to overcome their enemies, and not for differences in abilities. They were just regular young teenagers who had to grow up fast in the middle of an adult’s war. Originally released in South Korea, the show aimed to teach young Korean children about Chinese characters (what the Tai Chi characters are based off of). When it was released in English, it aired alongside shows like Dragon Ball Z Kai and Yu-gi-oh, and yet there’s only about 10 people in the fandom today (probably because the show was canceled after the second season because 4KIDS Entertainment went bankrupt). It’s time for this show to make a comeback! Who knows? Maybe if it does, the third season will finally be dubbed!
