My first year as a HOBY Facilitator!
Celebrating their 65th anniversary, this year's HOBY Los Angeles theme was Origin Stories.
I had the honor to witness my group of youth ambassadors begin their weekend as caterpillars and fly away today as butterflies; taking the new ideas and leadership skills they learned back to their homes, schools, and communities.

It is a pleasure to be a part of their HOBY story. Super excited to see how they'll go on to change the world.

Happy International Youth Day 2024
Happy International Youth Day, 12 August, 2024. 2024 Theme: "From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development".
This theme, for me, means that young people must be able to make digital technology, especially the internet, a means for sustainable development. Young people can make the internet more inclusive, especially since they are the majority of internet users.
Young people are the main force for change through the internet, where they can then create solutions to every problem we face, wherever and whenever. One thing that can be done and is easiest is to create a campaign, just like this one.

Youth Leadership: Cultivating the Changemakers of Tomorrow
Tumblr media
In today’s rapidly changing world, the need for effective leadership is more crucial than ever. As we face complex global challenges, it is imperative to empower and cultivate the youth to become the changemakers of tomorrow. Youth leadership not only builds a strong foundation for personal growth but also contributes to positive societal transformation. By nurturing leadership skills in young individuals, we can create a brighter future and pave the way for a generation of compassionate, innovative, and visionary leaders.
Empowering Young Minds
Empowering youth to become leaders begins with providing them with the necessary tools and opportunities. Education systems, community organizations, and families play a vital role in creating an environment that encourages leadership development. By fostering critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills, young individuals can gain the confidence to voice their ideas and take initiative.
Mentorship and Guidance
Mentorship and guidance are essential components of youth leadership development. When experienced leaders invest their time and knowledge in mentoring young individuals, they inspire and shape their leadership potential. Mentors provide guidance, share experiences, and offer valuable insights that can help young leaders navigate challenges and make informed decisions. Through mentorship programs and initiatives, young people can benefit from the wisdom and expertise of those who have walked the path before them.
Encouraging Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Youth leadership goes beyond traditional roles and extends to innovative thinking and entrepreneurship. Young minds often possess fresh perspectives and creative ideas, which, when nurtured, can lead to groundbreaking solutions. Encouraging entrepreneurship among youth enables them to harness their skills, embrace risk-taking, and bring about positive change. Initiatives such as start-up incubators, entrepreneurship competitions, and access to resources can provide the platform for young leaders to turn their ideas into reality.
Social Impact and Community Engagement
Youth leadership thrives when young individuals actively engage in their communities and make a positive social impact. Encouraging volunteerism, community service, and civic participation instills a sense of responsibility and empathy in young leaders. By actively addressing social issues and collaborating with like-minded peers, youth can create grassroots movements, raise awareness, and advocate for change. These experiences not only develop leadership skills but also foster a sense of purpose and a commitment to making the world a better place.
Global Perspective and Collaboration
In an increasingly interconnected world, youth leadership must embrace a global perspective. Encouraging young leaders to think beyond borders, appreciate diverse cultures, and engage in international collaboration expands their horizons and widens their impact. Global youth summits, exchange programs, and international partnerships provide opportunities for cross-cultural understanding, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem-solving. These experiences cultivate empathy, cultural competence, and a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of our world.
Youth leadership holds immense potential to shape the future. By empowering young minds, providing mentorship, encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship, promoting community engagement, and fostering a global perspective, we can cultivate the changemakers of tomorrow. Investing in youth leadership development is an investment in the well-being of our societies and the sustainability of our planet. Let us rally behind our youth, nurture their potential, and create a world where young leaders thrive and transform our world for the better. Together, we can build a brighter future and cultivate the leaders our world needs.

Another friendly reminder that queer kids are welcome in Girl Scouts (and that there are queer leaders and alumni too!)
I am a queer, nonbinary, and transgender Girl Scout who has been a member since age 5, and now I am a camp counselor. I marched with Girl Scouts of Western Washington at Seattle Pride, I come from a troop that is at least 50% LGBTQIA+, and I have seen how queer-inclusive spaces have helped kids.
I have had nonbinary campers look at me with surprise when I use their correct pronouns. I've had kids make up drag queen characters with girlfriends and none of the other kids batted an eye. I listened as, unprompted, my group of ten year olds realized that there were no queer Disney princesses and their reaction was confusion, not at queer identity, but at the lack of representation.
Scouting taught me confidence, social skills, and life skills. I can assert myself and be taken seriously, and express myself and feel seen. I turn 18 in a month and I am facing down the realities of adulthood with the support of my scouting education.
This is why I continue to support this organization and advocate for children to be in accepting spaces. I want to lead because some child needs to see someone like me being a leader. It matters, and it is beautiful. There is nothing adult or indoctrinating about this, kids are loved for who they are and shown how other's differences are part of a functioning society. They are taught to be the best version of themselves.
Education, community, and leadership are for every child.
Girl Scouts of America's answer to the question, "What is Girl Scouts' position on serving transgender youth?":
"Girl Scouts is proud to be the premiere leadership organization for girls in the country. Placement of transgender youth is handled on a case-by-case basis, with the welfare and best interests of the child and the members of the troop/group in question a top priority. That said, if the child is recognized by the family and school/community as a girl and lives culturally as a girl, then Girl Scouts is an organization that can serve her in a setting that is both emotionally and physically safe" (Girl Scouts of the United States of America, n.d.).

giroux x any of then sens youngins
banging my pots and pans together WHY NOT ALL OF THEM
Tumblr media
claude giroux, as demonstrated by the pie chart, is so beautiful and so shippable. i want those sens yungins to make him feel like an absolute dinosaur and i would read any and all of it even if i am more partial to claude/flyers pairings. to be specific:
josh norris: i need you to watch this video and tell me that's not horny. in what other contexts can you teach josh french, claude
timmy stü: i know there's gifs out there but the way he is with claude on the bench... ohhh he wants to fuck that old man so bad, he wants that old man to tell him he's pretty and doing so well
brady: idealistic/intellectual match rather than pure physical To Me. would be very interesting to explore if brady sees a future in claude, if claude sees his past in brady, the chain of captaincy etc etc
brady AND timmy: i love linemates who are obsessed with each other and seducing their old man case closed
thomas chabot: who would i be if i did not give you a pairing for no reason other than i said so. french canadian connection? the thread is out there somewhere and it's in whatever tiktoks chabby sends to claude

I think the funny thing about my being a youth leader is that I basically just Hang Out with a bunch of middle schoolers. like I just pal around with them and play games and then sit down and ramble at the youth pastor when it's time to discuss the Biblical topic of the night and somehow this has charmed like half a dozen of them into considering me A Cool Person despite the fact that I'm actually Introverted And Awkward at all times
