Ok, so, idk if anyone else had made this connection or if I’m looking too into this—BUT when I think of Michael and Helen they remind me of tragedy and comedy masks respectively.

Michael cuz he was driven by anger and sadness for being used.

And

Helen has a stronger since of self and how she entered the distortion after having someone to talk to about her fears.

I know the Comedy and the Tragedy would fall more under The Stranger, but it just felt very deliberate to me that Michael and Helen would be the represent the over exaggerated expression of Comedy and Tragedy!! The masks distorted in an extreme depiction of sorrow and joy!

Possible benefits: if moonlight isn’t shining on them (it would go through without reflecting) they might turn back into a person.

Campaign Idea: It is the age of the late Roman Republic. You and your fellow PCs are warriors, elders, or workers in the army of Vercingetorix, leader and king of a Gaulish alliance against Rome. After a brutal war, the terrible Caesar has besieged you in the town of Alesia.

There are plenty of alarums and events, things to help with and chances to get into trouble. But this siege is a turning point in history and in the supernatural world. The Druids say that there’s something dark and poisonous on the Roman side, and you might be sent to find out how to stop it.

Will the tides of battle go differently than they are supposed to? Is there a way for mere mortals to stand against the otherworldly forces that are working with the legions? And do Caesar and Brutus know what lurks in their ranks?

Possible options for the threat: Albus Cinnia Maximus, a shoggoth lord in disguise. It wants the Romans to conquer Gaul because it wants to maximize the potential for civilization and human population in the long term, as future food for the elder gods. Three Centurions, possessed by alien bugs (Shan). They want to dedicate the upcoming carnage to their stellar deity, in a ritual to summon more of their kind. Or The Augur In Gray, a mysterious and ancient vampire who has an artifact that can only be used by rightful kings. She has predicted that Vercingetorix is able to activate this, and wants to spirit him away after the battle.

Question for the crowd!: Sieges in Tabletop

I actually played recently in a module where we had a siege encounter with some rounds of enemy waves and actions we could take after a certain event passed. There was also bonuses for if we were able to get the factions within the walls to work together rather than fight separately.

So in light of that: how do you run siege encounters? Or what questions do you have for how any of those would work? Any favorite siege encounter stories?

Based on something i read awhile back where someone said that 'The Princess Bride' could be remade and possibly well, because the idea of it is the imagination of a child. That you could show the imagination of a child in countless, endless ways.

That stuck with me, and what if 'the Princess Bride' was a mini series. each episode a chapter, each chapter read by another grandparent, parent, child, to their ailing love one. A child sick in the hospital imagines her handsome doctor as Wesley. An elderly woman in hospice imagines herself and her husband young as Wesley and Buttercup as her husband reads to her. A little boy sees his towering, lovable uncle as Fezzik. A young man reads to his grandfather, who sees his best friend who passed in war as Inigo. A kid first imagines their new step-father as Prince Humperdink but slowly, the characters switch in their mind as they realize how much the man cares for them. Each episode the characters switch, connect, flow together, showing how imagination and love are an interconnecting thread in everyone's lives. The story of how a story like 'The Princess bride' not only brings people together, but is something that we all share, no matter who we are, where we came from, what we do, we all share something we love. The greatest love story ever told, truly becomes about love in all it's ceaseless forms.

People like to romanticize the relationship between Zelda and Link in a whole “destined reincarnated soulmates” kind of way, but am I the only one who thinks it would be more interesting if Link didn’t love Zelda?

Like, think of it. Hylia is a Goddess, basically Hylian Jesus, and she loves this mortal man. A hero who stepped forward to defeat a Devil in the world’s hour of greatest need. But, he didn’t do it for her, he did it for the World. Even when he binds his soul to the Triforce, locking himself in an endless pattern of reincarnation with her against the Devil Demise, it’s not because he loves her. He loves Hyrule and its people.

But that’s okay, maybe in the next life they can be?

But it isn’t. Over and over, Hylia becoming Zelda, Link doesn’t love her. He loves Hyrule. He loves to dance to its music and ride its fields and wants to preserve it against the threat of Demise. He loves different women each time, and sometimes it is Hylia’s reincarnation, but they’re never the core of his heart.

It’s always Hyrule that he loves. From it’s savage and arid deserts to the cold and harsh tundra, he loves it, and steps forward to save it each time.

Duty, he calls it. Responsibility and Purpose, but Hylia/Zelda knows the truth. He’ll never love her the way she wants him to.

Hyrule will always be Link’s first and greatest love.
