STOP KOSA(and cie) MASTERPOST 2024

Both KOSA and the Earn It Act bill are dangerous for the future of the Internet.

In a nutshell, KOSA would allow states to sue any websites that host content deemed “harmful” to minors. With such a vague wording, its expected that any NSFW stuff, educational ressources or LGBT content, will immediately be taken down if govts dont approve of it.

Plus, it will be made mandatory to use IDs to confirm your age when going online, to so called “protect kids” but all that will cause is a huge potential data breach and endanger more kids.

As for the Earn It Act bill, it would allow the governement to spy and filter out anything they dont like in private dms for any users,as well as blowing a hole into Section 230 : The thing that prevent websites from being directly liable in case a user post something illegal,instead of the user being punished directly. Fansub Plans and Schedule: UPDATED 4/09

The new Nintama movie will be released as soon as we get our hands on it. (No release date as we write this. IT SHADOW DROPPED LIKE A TRUE NINJA MOVIE) Right now, we are streaming it in our server raw. Once we cook it I mean sub it properly, we will most likely stream it for a week or two in our server before publicly releasing it, so that we can truly polish and get other people's input. Please don't be shy about it! We realized belatedly there was a typo in our movie 1 release and we really appreciate this kind of thing.

We will attempt to sub season 33 as it comes out. Attempt being the key word. We've never done something like this, so burn out may happen. Right now, kind members of the community have been sharing/streaming new episodes in our server which has helped us immensely. We plan on streaming the first 5 episodes in our server this Sunday, at 5 PM EST/10 PM GMT+1. We will then release them throughout the week. Hopefully, we can keep it up! This is on hold as we are prioritizing the movie, but the first 5 episodes were subbed successfully! We will most likely release the anime's very first episode and the 2nd movie in the next couple of weeks while we fine-tune the latest movie's subs. We wanted to release them close to the movie, we just didn't anticipate it sneaking on us like this with no warning.

Episodes from our backlog will also be streamed first in the server, as they need to be polished more!

Thanks to the kindness of our community members, we got the means to rip season 16, 17, 21, 30 (including the special) and 32 in higher resolution than what's currently available. We will slowly make them available to discord members, but right now we aren't sure to release it publicly. Maybe a torrent, in the future? Keep an eye out!

Hey folks, we'd like your opinions on the idea of Phic Phight being it's own server, instead of being part of the DP Fanfic server. We also have a google form so you guys can expand on your answer if you'd like, but also give us any general suggestions, comments or feedback related to the upcoming Phic Phight.

Under the readmore is just some detailed explanations as to why some of the changes.

What would happen if we made a Phic Phight server?

Phic Phight section of the DP fanfic server will be archived from general view. NOT DELETED. Archived. Six months will be given for people to collect what they want before it gets archived. However, you'd still be able to request temporary access at any time to look/get what you want/need.

Joining the discord will become mandatory for Phic Phight participants. You do not have to stay after Phic Phight, and you can be as active/inactive as you wish.

Better event organization information, since users will be pinged when prompts drop and any other important information. Everybody will get it at the same time.

Since it'd be it's own server, we'd be more willing to expand on and add specific features, channels and bots for Phic Phight events.

What if Phic Phight stayed within the DP Fanfic server?

Phic Phight participants will start taking on full responsibility for checking the Phic Phight tumblr in late March/early April for prompts. Mods will no longer be directly messaging them to people.

Related to the above, but no more extensions based on people not getting their prompts. Extensions will still be offered in situations such as mods releasing prompts late or other situations out of user/mod control that effects Phic Phight.

Not having to join yet another goddamn Danny Phantom discord server.

We will continue making updates and changes in-server as needed.

Why would discord membership be mandatory if we made our own server?

It makes it easier for the mods to coordinate everything and for users to communicate. We can more directly answer questions, clarify confusion, give everybody updates at the exact same time, dedicate our announcement spaces to only phic phight, etc. Users can better connect with their team as well and encourage each other.

A big part of Phic Phight is community, especially since more recent additions have made it a good idea to work with your team to help make sure all prompts are filled. Since we're currently attached to the fanfic server, it felt unfair to require membership, but as our own server, we would operate a bit more similarly to Invisobang. Specifically where we're encouraging more collaboration. We're writing phics for each other as well as for our own personal reasons.

What kind of changes would a Phic Phight server bring?

We'd be more willing to expand and add Phic Phight specific features as users and mods seem fit. Current ideas include:

More writing bots

More phic-phight specific channels to collaborate

Random number generators, so you can roll for a prompt or make decisions based on a randomized number

Hosting phic phight focused events, such as regular sprint nights

This is just the current thoughts, but we're open to more ideas within the google form!

This server would also, in general, make it a lot easier to get information strictly for Phic Phight.

Why are mods no longer going to be sending out prompts list? How will I get my prompts? Why no more extensions?

Phic Phight prompts and teams are always consistently released 2-3 days before April 1st, and Phic Phight always lasts the entire month of April. Meaning, you can expect prompts around March 31st at the LATEST. In recent years, they are always released both in the Fanfic server as well as our official tumblr. In the past, due to tumblr constantly changing how messaging works, general confusion and the amount of participants, it's become too difficult for mods to personally make sure everybody has their prompts list.

It wasn't too bad when we had 30 participants, but now we're often getting 100+ people. That's a lot of people to individually check got prompts. It's just becoming harder and harder to make sure everybody got their list, but since we consistently release them around the same time, we decided that regardless of whether we make a new server or not, it's now going to be YOUR responsibility to check for prompts around March 31st.

Having a server means that we'd just be @ everybody-ing when they drop, versus not having a server, where they will still be posted and pinged role, as well as tumblr. Regardless of whether we make a server or not, we will still post the prompts list to tumblr and have it pinned for easy viewing.

Related, we have extended deadlines if a lot of people did not get their prompts, due to the above mentioned tumblr problem. This change would mean that we basically will not be doing event-wide extensions anymore based on tumblr users getting prompts late, which had been a semi-common past problem. We will still offer extensions in events such as mods releasing prompts late or similar situations

The internet censorship is coming..(again)

There are two well known censorship bill known as KOSA and the EarnIt act.

These bills both promised that they will protect children but unfortunately these are misguided bills that says they’ll do something but then they will do the opposite or make things worse.

Both of these bills are serious threat to the LGBT community and will censor a lot of content especially there

the EarnItact will also get rid of NSFW content and deem it as illegal, and will also get rid of section 230

The KOSA act will let attorneys from Florida and Texas take control and decide what people could and could not watch and sue websites and anything they don’t like and will not protect children but mostly put many vulnerable teens and children at risk while going as far as to even censor important information like sex education, health issues, suicide prevention hotlines and many more

We have stopped these bills from passing before but the cofounder Richard Bluemenhal is clearly not giving up and trying hard and hard again to push these bills back on congress

Last year more than 90/100 human rights groups urged lawmakers and congress to not pass KOSA in the omnibus bill and it got shelved and the same then happened to Earn it last year on February/March

But now he is trying a third time,using and manipulating grieving parents and young people into supporting and lobbying his bills, whiles even accepting anti trans and LGBT groups into supporting his legislations. He’s trying to find any type of scandal a platform is currently facing and turn and twist it on behalf of his agendas.

He says he supports abortions and the LGBT community but his bills will censor those things he claims to support. He can’t have it both ways.

But he was stubborn enough to ignore every criticism and scrutiny he gets about the legislations, being childish and all.

Not to mention that they are also both privacy nightmares to everyone and globally too

That’s why it’s important that you call and email your representatives and lawmakers and urge them to drop Kosa and the earn it act

Let any human rights group you trust knows and tell anyone you trust about it weather it be a friend or family member.

Hey guys I’m back to warn everyone about yet again another bad internet bill it’s called the safe tech act

This act is supported by 7 democratic senators including bluemenhal which is never a good sign with him when it comes to internet bills.

This is a misguided 230 reform and when reading it, all it shows is that these people have no understanding of 230 whatsoever.

It’s just another dangerous censorship bill that threatens everyone’s free speech. The creators claim that it’s won’t hurt free speech but it actually does and they do not understand how important 230 is in its current form right now!

Also talk to your representatives about this and why it’s bad and if you can, try to explain to them about why section 230 is important. Support digital advocacy, human rights and any other groups that supports free internet and expression and let them know about these legislators and their bad ideas!

The EarnIt act is sadly coming back after failing two times, now they are trying a 3rd time.

This legislation is dangerous for privacy and free expression and speech. It will bring lots of surveillance and is just as bad as the restrict act.

now this bill has failed to pass last year because a lot of opposition from 90/100 human rights.

It claims it’s would protect kids but it’s actually has a lot of censorship and is very dangerous to lgbt/trans kids and many other kids that are in abusive households. It will actually hurt them instead of protecting them.

If that’s not bad enough it’s tragically gaining momentum and attraction by these child advocacy groups and being sponsored by Dove and Lizzo. And there has been petitions in supporting this unconstitutional bill, One of them having somewhere around 30k signs…

I really wish I could say I’m joking but this is sadly true.

Q: How will the magazine be structured?

A: The structure of the zine will be arranged by our Layout Mod and is determined by what makes sense aesthetically or chronologically based on our final submissions pool! While we aren’t looking for a specific number of artwork/writing based on the pre-train/on train/post-train categories, contributors will be required to fill out our Idea Claims sheet by the end of the 1st Check-In to ensure that there is enough thematic variety and not too much overlap in concept.

Q: Are we going to have something like a discord server for this zine to interact with each other?

A: Yes! Our team will be communicating mainly through Discord as it’ll be the quickest and most efficient way for us to work together. The server’s main goal is to share project updates/info with the whole crew and to provide creative resources, feedback, and positive support throughout the course of the zine. Contributors will receive an invite to the Rhymin’ private server upon acceptance into the project.

While joining the Discord is highly recommended, it’s not required! For those who wish not to join, we’ll keep in touch with you mainly through email for major Check-Ins, but you’re also welcome to DM our head mods if you’d like private feedback or have any questions.

Q: I’m not familiar with the zine-making process and want to know more about how the zine will be made? How will the team work together?

A: Upon acceptance onto the project, contributors will have roughly 2 months to create never-before-seen art/writing/music inspired by Ryan and Min-Gi’s lives within the canon universe, and will be independently responsible for finishing their submissions. Art templates and guidelines will be provided to all contributors as soon as participants have accepted their spot. Submissions are due on a specific date (currently July 22-24), but we’ll be keeping track of progress through check-in dates to make sure everyone is in a good place to complete their work.

Our team will be communicating mainly through Discord and e-mail to provide the latest updates on the project. Feedback/constructive criticism from both mods and fellow contributors will be available in the Discord for anyone who wants peer review, but our mod team can also provide private feedback via DM’ing our head mods for anyone who wants it.

Once all pieces have been received, our Layout Mod will format and create a digital version of the book while the rest of the mod team arranges for the physical production of the zine and merch. As previously mentioned, contributors are only responsible for submitting content-our mod team handles the logistics for the funding and creation of the zine!

↳ what is the “deobi revival” event ?  it’s an event made for encouraging deobi content creators that will span the course of 8 weeks ! each week will have specific prompts that are meant to inspire deobi ccs ! any creations are accepted: gifs, gfx, video edits, fanart, etc. ! 

↳ who can join the discord ? any and all deobis are allowed to join the server ! not just content creators ^^ 

↳ what’s the server for ?  as of right now, the server is a general deobi server ! it will primarily start off as an area for deobiblr creators to meet and talk about prompts and get ideas for creations and get the latest updates regarding the event, but it’s also for meeting new deobis and making friends ! there will be more fun social events planned for the future hopefully 

↳ do i have to join the server to participate in deobi ccs revival ?  no you do not ! the server is open to everyone, but is not mandatory for those who wish to participate in the event ! you can post your creations to the deobi cc revival tag and we’ll reblog it ! no joining of the server is necessary, it’s just for fun ! 

↳ what future events are planned ? there’s no set plans for events right now >.< but some ideas the admins have been considering may include movie nights (where we stream movies over the voice channel together) or game nights (where deobis can play online games together) ! most likely there will be a watching party for the road to kingdom episodes and possibly kcon !

Barricades: The Halloween Round-up!

We’re now just six months away from Barricades: A Les Mis Convention, which is taking place virtually on 22-24 April 2022. The past month has been busy and we have lots of exciting updates! Here’s a round-up of what we’ve been working on and what you can expect to see from us soon.

Latest News:

We’re delighted to welcome Nemo Martin and David Montgomery as our Guests of Honour at the con! You can read about their work under the Latest News section on the homepage of our website. We’ll be announcing the topics of their keynote presentations soon.

Registration for the con is now open! Visit the Registration page of our website to buy tickets. Tickets cost £10, with all profits donated to Just Detention International. There are also free add-ons available. You can find all the information you need about applying for a scholarship and donating to our scholarship fund on this page as well.

The academic track submissions are now closed. Our academic track review team has contacted everyone who submitted an academic or crossover proposal before the end of August. Check your spam/junk mail folders and reach out to us at programming@barricadescon.com if that’s you and you haven’t heard from us!

The deadline for fan track submissions is 1 December 2021! Keep an eye out for our calls for panellists or submit your own proposal on our website if you’d like to be a part of our fan track. Find out more on our Submissions page and check out our How To Submit info post for extra guidance.

Coming Soon:

We’re currently finalising the first pieces of programming for the con with our GoHs and the initial academic track submissions. Announcements of some of these events will be coming soon; we’ve received some brilliant proposals so far and cannot wait to share them with you!

The fan track review team are currently working on specific calls for panellists for the con. We’ll be sharing these across our social media and on Discord in the coming weeks. They’ll be a great opportunity to take part in the con alongside fellow fans passionate about the same aspects of Les Mis as you!

We’ll be releasing batches of scholarships on the 15th of each month, as funding becomes available. If you’ve applied for a scholarship or are planning to do so in the next couple of weeks, check your email after 15 November for an update! Information about scholarships can be found on our Registration page.

In November and December, we’ll be responding to everyone who submitted an academic track proposal in September and October. Keep an eye on your emails!

If you’d like to be more involved in the day-to-day running of the con, everyone is welcome to join our BarricadesCon Discord server, where we hold fortnightly public meetings with updates about what we’re working on. In the interim, we also assign volunteer tasks and discuss various aspects of organising the con, alongside fun and informal conversations about Les Mis more generally. EVENT INFORMATION | WRITERS’ GUIDELINES | GUIDELINES FOR CLAIMING CREATORS | FAQ POST

The Cap-Iron Man Big Bang is a Steve/Tony fest where writers work to create a story of 25K words or more, and artists (including giffers and manippers), fanvidders and podficcers create an accompanying work based on the story they claim.

Please make sure to read over all the event guidelines, even if you’ve participated in our Big Bang before. We’d like to highlight the new eligible fanworks you can create from this year’s event onwards (as per the Community Survey that took place in early 2021).

Accompanying fanwork minimum requirements from claiming creators are:

at least one traditional or one digital artwork

a fanvid of at least one minute

a fanmix with cover art (writers must opt in)

a podfic of at least one scene (writers must opt in)

at least two manips or gifs (writers must opt in)

Writers can still submit a draft for claims if it is ~80% complete and 20K or over, but stories must be complete if you want to opt into being claimed by a podficcer.

This year, our Discord #bb channel is open as a semi-moderated space all day every day! At this stage, we ask that only prospective writers request the role, so that they can talk about their stories freely and share their progress with each other without giving it away before claims!
