Just to put a lot of my posts and beliefs about Light Yagami's character in one post (headcanons not included):
• He does not do anything for purely moral reasons. The reason he started killing criminals was because he was curious, and then afterward his "crusade" was built from panic and spite. He thought using the Death Note was going to kill him, so he decided to take everyone he considered a threat to society down with him—that way he would still be good. He would still be remembered. If he can't live, then criminals don't deserve to either. The weight loss and the insomnia shown in the manga, were more likely results of a fear of dying than moral stress.
• Then Light discovers he won't die. This negates part of the spite, but not the need for a moral justification to keep himself "good". He no longer needs to be a martyr, so instead he's chosen to become a God.
• During this week and half of time, Light goes from being a bored, lonely, listless teenager disgusted with the world because it's not how his father taught him it should be, disgusted because if he can manage perfection why can't the rest of the world—to a boy with a new friend and a new mission that gives him purpose. Something interesting. If the world can't be perfect on its own, he'll have to help it. The world needs his help, making him its "savior".
• In comes L. It is no longer about Kira, no longer about saving the world from itself, even if he might tell himself it is—it's about the game. Kira was a fun pastime, yes, but L has made things so much more interesting. (Light and Ryuk are actually wildly similar in several ways it's just not immediately obvious). This game is more fun, too, because this time he has an opponent—one not so nebulous as "the criminals of the world", who offered no challenge. Light is still justifying his actions through a lens of morality, because he has to, but they're beginning to run rather thin.
• Both the broadcast and the obvious taunts to L through changing Kira's killing methods supports the above. "You're too stupid, L. If you were just a little smarter, we could've had some fun." Drawing L in was to progress their game, not Kira's goals. If Light truly only cared about Kira's vision, Kira's new world, Kira's righteous justice; then he wouldn't have continued to play the game after the broadcast. There was no way for L to find him without Light drawing him in—the Death Note is literally the perfect murder weapon. Light knew this, he just ignored it because he wanted to play.
• In the same vein: Yotsuba Light doesn't know he's playing the game. He's forgotten that there even is a game, and so he sees L as someone who's been duped, who either isn't as intelligent as he's been made out to seem, or someone who's being purposefully cruel just because he can. Either way, to Yotsuba Light, L's threat level has only increased, because Light no longer has any sort of weapon to go against him with. He can't even wield his own innocence against him, because his innocence is not certain. Even to himself. Yotsuba Light knows that he has to play along with L's plays of friendship and morality in order to secure his freedom, but he does not respect L or like him. At least, not until near the end, where they're closing in on Higuchi. Where his freedom seems closer....and yet he sees his own, true innocence as more tenuous than ever. Notably, even when Light feels positively towards L there, he still does not share his suspicions about himself with him. His own life still takes precedence over any sort of justice or morality he might have, because Yotsuba Light is still Light. And Light will always put his own self-interests first.
• After killing L, something interesting happens. Because the game ends, but Kira is still left. And Light was willing to take risks and make wild plans in his game with L, but Kira's goals always, always came after his own life. And when only Kira's goals are left, Light stops taking those big, potentially lethal risks. (i.e. bomb desk trap, killing Raye Penber in person by handing him pages of the Death Note, killing Naomi Misora in person right in front of the police station, writing Higuchi's name while sitting right beside L with the murder weapon literally in his hand, etc. etc.). Winning the game was worth dying for—Kira's ideals are not. Or, to put it even more simply: His pride is worth dying for, but his morals are not. Five years after his victory against L, he's presented with another game, but instead of feeling fearful and excited as he did with L, Light is angry. Arrogant and angry. Because this isn't a game to these opponents, as it was to L—they're playing against each other, and Light is merely a piece in it. This game is not like his game with L; it's more like his "game" with the criminals of the world. One with no true challenge, just another defense of Kira's world—worth winning, but not worth dying for.
• Light's pride is more important to him than anything. He needs to be able to take pride in himself and his actions. Pride comes before everything else, before Kira, before family, before L, even before his own desires and physical health. He does not enjoy killing—he just turned it into something he could be proud of. Into another mastering of craft. Light is not particularly sadistic, he's just spiteful. He'll only take pleasure in someone's suffering if they make someone else suffer first, especially if that someone is him. Attacking his pride would count as making him suffer, because that's the most important thing in the world to him. Even though Light also values his life incredibly highly, attempting to kill him wouldn't invoke as much hell-hot wrath as attempting to humiliate him would. And Light will always get even. Always. He does not forgive and forget.
• He believes every lie he tells himself. Every. Lie. He is a Good Man. He is Good Son. He is a Savior. He is Better. He is NOT Evil, he is Good. He's incredibly adept at not only fooling other people, but fooling himself. Even if he's vaguely aware of the truth, he'll take great pains to make sure that truth never comes to light—because it would crush him.
• Light does not take his own desires into account. If he likes or wants something that contradicts with the perfect image he's crafted, he purges it from his mind. Makes excuses for why he doesn't need it, or even convinces himself very thoroughly that he didn't even want it in the first place. If it's not something he can be proud of (or convince himself to be proud of), he doesn't allow himself to desire it.
• Light sees everyone as beneath him (family notwithstanding, Light loves his family deeply), and while it's a pyramid scale of how far beneath him they are, it's not actually ranked by things like gender, sexuality, race—it's ranked by morality and intelligence. The more intelligent and moral you are, the higher up you are on the scale. Light feeling hostile towards someone does not always mean he sees them as further down beneath him; with L and Misa specifically, it means that they're a threat. Light tends to only see people near the top of the intelligence pyramid as threats; evidenced by him dismissing Matsuda completely even with the knowledge that Matsuda was a marksmen, and yet him immediately setting out to kill Naomi when he found out she figured out one of Kira's secrets. With Takada and Mikami, he treats them exactly the same as each other because they're both on the same level of the scale—and he didn't hesitate to get rid of either of them. (Or try to get rid of, in Mikami's case). Everyone is either a tool, a threat, a criminal, a citizen, or family to him. People to use (tool, criminal), people to serve and/or placate (citizen, family), and people to eliminate (threat, criminal). Everyone falls into at least one of these categories for him.
• Light Yagami is a tragic character. And he's a tragic character because he refuses to believe he's part of a tragedy. He would rather swallow broken glass than be considered a victim of anything.

LawLight Polls - Opening January 25, 2024
Please note: this is the starting of the new poll thread. This can be considered a repost of the final re-blog on the initial Lawlight Polls thread. [With additional information at the bottom]
After facing several blockades, I am happy to announce that we are FINALLY KICKING OFF - and things are going to look different.
There will be ONE work vs. work to start off the polls.
The Longfic Lawlight MVPs
The Sweet Taste of Silver by LumiOlivier (Tumblr: @lumiolivierlithium) vs. Passengers by Pyreneese (Tumblr: @pyreneese)
Poll Open Date: January 25, 2024
Special Hashtag: #WintersLawlightBible
Thank you both for interacting/agreeing to participate! Both of your works were fantastic and deserve all the recognition in the world.
Additional big thank you to all authors who replied. I was going to try to find a way to include each other who gave permission/interacted a work vs. work poll - but INSTEAD, I will just be ensuring that they are showcased in the polls yet to come.
As a general reminder, don't be a dick. Fanfiction author's work for free. Read them, give them some love, they are both amazing stories and deserve all the praise in the world.
Read below: Future Poll Introduction/questions that no one asked, but I'm answering anyway
What will the polls look like in the future?
I have changed the format so that the polls will focus on Lawlight tropes. Each poll will have my own recommended Fan Fics in that category, and I will invite others to showcase any stories that they recommend in either of the tropes.
For example:
Politician Light vs. Detective Light
L played a character to trick Light vs. L is exactly the unkempt genius he portrays himself to be
Yotsuba Arc vs. Alternate Universe
This way we can include short fics and longfics all in one. It doesn't require me to have to review and search for tropes in each story (as long as I know the ones that I've read myself) (this is so I don't get overworked again and die).
***To avoid any possibility of thinking that the polls are merely a circular way of comparing two specific works, my own suggestions will always include as many as possible. They are to be used as reference, not as a "one or the other". ***
This was, in my opinion, the best way to respect the majority of author's works and wishes.
From my experience of myself and speaking to other fanfic author's, the idea of people talking about and recommending their fanfic is awesome, but the idea of using it as a competition is unnecessary stress or possible other ick feelings.
From hereforth, I will do my best to have as many discussions and recommendations about Lawlight fic as possible in ways that makes everyone as happy as possible!
How will my fanfic recommendations be included in the polls?
This may change around. When I first had the idea, I wanted to make an indexed list. - obviously when you go on A03 there are tropes and you are able to look things up yourself. However, I wanted to make an index that would help with the themes we might have a hard time explaining.
Such as, "L is playing a part vs. L is actually the weirdo he is as displayed in the show".
All this to say, I want to save them and make record of them, but I don't know how well an actual indexed concept would work. So then - I introduce - HELLO IT WILL BE A MESS BUT I WILL SHOWCASE THEM TO MY BEST ABILITIES.
For each trope, any recommended Fanfictions that came in, they will all be shared along with the final poll Re-Blog.
This will be lined up fairly simple. Trope 1: [List underneath] Trope 2: [List underneath]
What is even the point of your recommendations if others are expected to also share their favourites in that trope?
*huff*. Well - my recommendations will be up there for the polling period in hopes to get the gears rolling.
I feel like after all of this work and reading if I didn't share some of my favourites it would be weird.
I'm an author and I want to recommend my Lawlight fan fiction to be included?
THIS IS IMPORTANT TO ME.
If you are an author and you want your work showcased in ANY of the polls, just reblog this post, or make a post and tag me in it (with the WintersLawlightBible hashtag) saying that you wrote a fanfic and include the link. As long as it is A03, I will read it and include it into as many themes as I find possible.
(Also, if you shared it, and was like - actually, my story also fits in this theme too, but you seemed to miss it. Let me know and I'll add it again.)
I want this event to be something that helps A03 authors.
What can I do to make this work better so everyone can see the most fanfictions as possible?
Leave Kudos and kind comments on the authors works.
Respond/Re-blog with any suggested tropes you may have.
Closing Thoughts
I am excited to start moving forward, hopefully we can turn this stress case of a project into something fun!
I am already working on scheduling the next polls and compiling the proper recommendation lists.
I won't have a set schedule because a roller coaster has less ups and downs than I do - but I will aim to do around one a month.
WOOOT LET'S DO THIS.

Anime/Manga Recommendation Round Up
Anime and manga recommendation thread of things I’ve been enjoying in recent years~
Tumblr media
~I’ll link any dedicated posts I have to these~
~Links to my other manga posts here~
My personal favs/ones I super enjoyed will have a ✨ on them :)
(Some of these might not have official EN translations since any physical manga I read are JP copies. I guess if any sound interesting, ask publishers to license them!)
I won’t get too much into what they’re about because I think finding out is part of the fun. I’ll mostly list the genres and a little blurb. Some of these I feel like I rarely hear anyone talk about so it would be cool to see people try these :)
PLEASE LOOK UP ANY TRIGGER WARNINGS!
HORROR, SUPERNATURAL
✨The Summer Hikaru Died by Mokumoku Ren
(4 volumes, ongoing)
Available in English
Tumblr media
Picked it up earlier this year up knowing nothing but was immediately gripped by the eerie mood. Takes place in the country side where mysterious things have been happening. My friend couldn’t stop reading when I recommended it.
ACTION, THRILLER, DRAMA, CRIME
✨Banana Fish by Yoshida Akimi
(19 volumes + side stories, completed)
It’s getting reprinted in English, so what are you waiting for!
Anime - yes and it’s so good…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The manga is from the 80’s-90’s but the anime updated it in 2018.
Without giving too much away, it takes place in NY where our characters are trying to break out of the vicious cycle of violence and figure out a mystery that’s also connected to a conspiracy. Lovable cast, keeps you on the edge of your seat. I’m obsessed.
DRAMA, ROMANCE, LGBTQ
Lovers’ Kiss by Yoshida Akimi
(2 volumes, completed)
JP only
Tumblr media
A short story where high schoolers are just trying to figure life out. Yoshida-sensei has this way of writing human stories and melancholy/tragedy while still leaving a glimmer of hope.
HISTORICAL, SUPERNATURAL
✨Mushishi by Urushibara Yuki
(10 volumes, complete)
I think the physicals are out of print but you can read it on bookwalker. It deserves a reprint!!!
Anime - yes, it’s a whole vibe please watch it
Tumblr media
I watched S1 ages ago but never got to the rest until recently. Recently picked up the manga and plan to read it eventually. Another top fav of all time. Amazing atmosphere. We see the daily life of mushi expert Ginko deal with mysterious phenomenon mushi cause.
COMEDY, SLICE OF LIFE

DRAMA, ART, SLICE OF LIFE
✨Blue Period by Yamaguchi Tsubasa
(15 volumes, ongoing)

Anime - yes, but… listen I’ve never said “don’t watch the anime” because everyone can enjoy stuff however they want but... don’t watch the anime… I’ve never been so offended by an adaption ;_;
Tumblr media
After discovering something he’s passionate about for the first time, Yatora navigates the art world despite his fears and being a complete newcomer. This series made me cry so much, I love it… please
ROMANCE
In the Clear Moonlight Dusk by Yamamori Mika
(7 volumes, ongoing)
Available in English
Tumblr media
Blind-bought this a while ago. Yoi is dubbed “Prince” by her classmates for her cool demeanor, but she’s not the only one.
YOI IS MY GIRL!!!
ROMCOM, ACTION
MARRIAGETOXIN by Joumyaku and Yoda Mizuki
(3 volumes, ongoing)
Available for free on Shueisha’s mangaplus site
Tumblr media
Assassin Gero needs to produce an heir so his sister can stay with her gf, but the social skills he needs to win a girl over need some help. This series is so funny and wholesome, all around a good time!
ACTION, ADVENTURE, FANTASY
✨Yona of the Dawn by Kusanagi Mizuho
(44 volumes, ongoing)
Available in English
Anime - yes, but I haven’t seen it yet so idk
Tumblr media
I’m not very far in this one yet, but I’m having a great time. Love the friendship, the found family vibes. Seeing Yona acknowledge that she is naive and then stepping up is awesome.
idk how I slept on this for so long since it seems like something right up my alley. Literally picked up a lot of all the 39 currently out volumes (it came with the light novel too), no questions asked. I’m only a few volumes in, but I’m enjoying it a lot. It’s giving me Ertugrul vibes (the historical Turkish drama). No, I won’t expand on that point, go watch Ertugrul!
Tumblr media
I’m committed apparently...
ROMANCE
A Sign of Affection by Morishita Suu
(10 volumes, ongoing)
Available in English
Tumblr media
Blind-buy. A cute romance between a deaf girl and a well-traveled guy.
FANTASY, SLICE OF LIFE
✨Ascendance of a Bookworm by Kazuki Miya and Shiina You
(3 seasons, ongoing)
Available in English - originally a light novel
Anime - yes, I’ve been watching this not reading it yet
Tumblr media
Listen, isekai just don’t ever click with me, but this one does. There’s political drama and we get to learn about the culture and daily lives of people living in this world.
Our mc is reincarnated into a medieval fantasy world where access to books is limited, making it her personal hell. But don’t worry, she gonna do something about it! This series is so interesting and I love the character dynamics. Even if isekai aren’t your thing, try this!
DRAMA, HISTORICAL, POLITICAL
✨Requiem of the Rose King by Kanno Aya
(17 volumes, complete)
Available in English
It has an anime but I heard fans were really mad at the adaption. I haven’t seen it so I can’t comment.
Tumblr media
Normally not the kind of thing I would go for, but this series has me constantly screaming. IT’S SO MESSY, but the good kind of messy. It takes every fiber in my body to contain myself when reading in public. It features an mc who was born intersex and a battle for the crown of England.
DRAMA
My Broken Mariko by Hirako Waka
(one shot)
Available in English
Tumblr media
Saw this at the bookstore and I looked at the cover like “wow, she looks like she’s really going through it…and she’s carrying someone’s ashes, oh no…” Didn’t know anything else about it but, oof, it’s a heavy one…
DRAMA
Look Back and ✨Goodbye Eri by Fujimoto Tatsuki
(one shots)
Available in English - also on the Jump app
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While Fujimoto-sensei’s more well-known work wasn’t 100% clicking with me, I tried his one shots and really enjoyed them. I particularly liked the cinematic feeling and environmental storytelling.
Maybe when I’m up to it, I’ll do posts on some of these that go into a little more detail on how I felt about them idk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I really want to know what song you would pick for Ide :> (or if that's possible for the Matsuda/Ide ship)
And maybe for Namikawa too. He’s quite an interesting character!
Of course, and thanks for the ask! I'll admit I had a lot of trouble with picking stuff out, but I'm pretty happy with the songs I found. I've got one for Ide, one for MatsuIde, and one for Namikawa.
Ide: "Hiding" by Modern Baseball
Ide's difficult! He seems like such a simple guy, I'd bet he wouldn't even listen to music all that often, lol XD I wanted to find something that reflected his more reserved personality but also nodded to his complicated feelings about the Kira case. This song is quiet and kinda comforting in some places, but loud (and almost violent) in others.
Overall, it feels like "Hiding" is a song about the past, about happy memories that are long behind you. And for Ide, who spends a good chunk of the plot unsure about what's going to happen next, it feels fitting, in a weird way.
Some of the lyrics that I think fit him the best from this are:
"Entertain the cancer, we all answer upwards either way The waiting game is tied again. Backs of hands and phrases, misplaced gazes Things we still deny to selves and hesitate to talk about"
Those second 2 lines could definitely be interpreted in a more shippy context, but I like the "things we still deny" line referring to Kira's identity. Ide's stance on things is... kinda weird, isn't it? Like, he seems to hope that Light isn't Kira, but also he kinda sees it coming in the end. I dunno, he's such an interesting guy.
MatsuIde: "This Side of Paradise" by Coyote Theory
I was originally gonna look for something much angsty-er, but this one works just fine. Yes, it sounds kinda sad, but also happy at the same time? Something about it just screams MatsuIde to me.
I think part of it is the fact that the Task Force after the time skip (and particularly after Soichiro's death) is... kinda tragic. Like, we as the audience know that nothing they do is going to matter as far as finding Kira goes, but they still keep ongoing anyways. And since they're spending so much time on the case, they all pretty much isolate themselves from the rest of the world, especially Matsuda and Ide.
I can't remember who it was (I think @/tinycrescent?) but someone had the headcanon that Matsuda was, despite how social and bubbly he appears, a lonely person when it comes down to it. Honestly, I can see it- especially after Light is revealed to be Kira all along. He'd probably have a hard time trusting people after all that, with a few exceptions. And Ide is definitely one of those exceptions.
Ide doesn't seem like a social person to begin with, but I think Matsuda joking around with him gets him out of his shell a little bit. I think that the two of them get to be more comfortable around each other, like it "feels right" to exist together, if that makes sense.
"If you're lonely, come be lonely with me"
Namikawa: "Machine" by Regina Spektor
Gahh I really wish I knew Namikawa better, or this would've been easier 😅
(I was originally gonna go with "One-Winged Angel" from Final Fantasy 7, since Sephiroth was my little bro's nickname for Namikawa. But I figured that Namikawa deserved something a little better. So I went with "Machine".)
I picked this one because of the instrumentals. Namikawa strikes me as a methodical, intellectual kind of guy, and the piano in this song makes me think of that. At the same time, the pounding drums give off the impression that there's a lot going on beneath the surface, something darker that needs to be explored. This instrumental version sounds like something that would play when he's onscreen to me.
As for the lyrics... eh. They kind of fit him? Maybe if you squint. I dunno if it's accurate to say that Namikawa is "hooked into [a] machine", but there is something that's just a touch messed up about the whole Yotsuba thing. Like, the group is stuck cooperating with Kira during these meetings, no matter what- if they leave or disagree with Kira too much, they risk dying. It's kind of like they're stuck going along with Kira, not that Namikawa minds. As long as he stays on top, which he will.

(Set during the Yotsuba Arc)
Light stared listlessly at the screen in front of him, the harsh glow exacerbating the throbbing in his temples. He squinted, trying to focus on the endless stream of records, each one a potential clue in their relentless hunt for Kira. Despite the mounting frustration and the nagging voice in his head telling him it might be fruitless, he couldn't allow himself to stop. Not now.
"Light?"
Light barely registered Matsuda's presence. His gaze remained fixed on the screen. "What is it, Matsuda?" His voice, though he tried to temper it, carried an edge of irritation he didn't entirely feel. Matsuda didn't deserve his frustration, but everything felt like it was teetering on a razor's edge.
"You really should take a break and eat something." Matsuda’s concern was palpable, his voice tinged with worry that seemed to fill the cramped, cluttered space around them. The hum of computers and the low murmur of the other investigators felt distant to Light. He couldn't afford distractions – not when Kira was out there, and certainly not when every moment he spent on this case still left him as L's suspect.
"I'm fine, Matsuda," Light responded, his eyes darting briefly to where L sat. Catching Kira wasn't just a mission; it was personal. He had to prove himself, not just to them, but to himself.
He heard Matsuda's resigned footsteps fading away, a small part of him feeling guilty for the dismissal. But that concern was quickly overshadowed as his vision blurred again, more violently this time. He blinked rapidly, trying to clear the fog that seemed to envelop his thoughts. A wave of dizziness washed over him, a warning he stubbornly ignored.
His focus narrowed to the words on the screen, now dancing and merging into incomprehensible shapes. His head screamed in protest, a crescendo of pain that he couldn't silence. And then, suddenly, the world tilted. The chair slipped away, its wheels skidding on the polished floor, and Light's grasp on consciousness faltered. With a thud that echoed through the silent room, he collapsed onto the floor, the room spinning into darkness.

My Spidersona Ships and Personality-like (is that the word I'm looking for?) Headcanons - Basically a thing where I list a bunch of ships and characters I think Giselle and Miguel are similar (but maybe not completely the same) as could be the dynamics of the ship etc, and characters I think Giselle is similar to, from different media, they could share qualities and traits but not be the full on same. Might be a little long, oops-
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gruvia (Fairy Tail) - I think Gray's sometimes cold (pun maybe intended) and serious personality he adorns at times is similar to Miguel's, though he isn't always shown to be like this. (Same as Miggy). Juvia is like Giselle in a lot of ways.
♡ Very loving, affectionate, supportive and sticks by the one she loves' side, but isn't their lapdog or servant and still has values of her own and is willing to challenge the one she loves for them. She isn't completely like Juvia, because Juvia used to be a little more obsessed (she is less so now) with Gray and overly possessive and jealous when he talks to another woman, but I feel like Giselle, since she (secretly) loves Miguel, maybe she would start to feel a little insecure with all the other various Spiderwoman around, seeing how pretty and skilled they are.
"Always thinking of you"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
☆ Raps (Tangled) - She is definitely like Rapunzel in a lot of ways. She has a bright, sunny, cheerful personality, that may be seen as slightly "quirky". She is very friendly and would love to make friends with as many as possible and is curious about a lot of things. She wants to visit the other Spiders' worlds just to explore and see what they're like. She loves to sing and dance and I think Giselle does have somewhat of an aura of a Disney Princess. I'd say Giselle's singing voice can be likened to a mix or combination of Halle Bailey, Ariel, Thumbelina and Princess Aurora. (I know many people probably don't even remember what Aurora's voice is like, but the song she sings in the forest at the start of the movie, those HIGH notes? Those are what Giselle's voice is like) Also, Miguel and Giselle's dynamic is pretty similar in a few ways to Rapunzel and Eugene's, especially with the way Eugene looks at Raps 😩 also got this idea/comparison from @fairytalespider <3
Tumblr media
○ Belle - I think that Giselle would have Belle's Stubborn, headstrong, adventurous and yet passionate traits. She loves to read and get lost in fantasy like Belle. Wanting to help people, no matter what, even if they don't want it and protecting the ones she loves and cares for. I would Imagine that Giselle's normal speaking voice would be similar to Belle's but with a slightly higher pitch and a bit more "oomph" to it. Her passion for reading and learning about different cultures growing up, allowed her to comfortably speak 4 different languages fluently, learn different cultural dishes by heart and gave her the dream of travelling and seeing the world. She also passionately studied ballet at one point and uses it to practice her natural flexibility, given that her flexibility also increased as she gained her abilities, but doesn't do ballet all the time or as a full time thing.
Tumblr media
◇ Yotsuba Nakano (The Quintessential Quintuplets) - I think Yotsuba's and Giselle's personalities and skills are very similar. Can seem a bit airheaded, yet are funny, passionate, full of life and puts others before herself. Like Yotsuba's situation, she would rather hide her romantic feelings for the one she loves, thinking that maybe someone else is deserving of him, instead of seeing that she is as good as any other and doesn't have to sell herself short. They're both very sporty and athletic too and have a passion for having fun and wanting others to have fun and feel happy too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
※ Yuna Ichihara (Love me, Love me not) - I think Giselle and Yuna are similar in a lot of ways. Natural born hopeless romantics with slightly naïve ideals and a sense of innocent curiosity to them. Both dream of their "Prince Charming" and true love. Both are bright, sweet, and charming and have a way of inspiring others.
Will end it here for now, Might make a part 2 to this, who knows.
What do you think of this/doing this as a new Spidersona Challenge or a "Get to Know My Spidersona"? @the-cat-and-the-birdie ? 👁

Note
Lately more I think of death note I feel that light never used death note for justice but more for justifying his mistake. Let me explain:-
Light was traumatized after killing people but somehow he convinced himself that he was the chosen one. He has a habit of justifying his action/mistake. He even did during sayu's kidnapping. When ryuk asked why he will use death note to punish criminals he said because "I was bored". Yes, light did seem unhappy with justice system but I don't think he would use death note purposefully for that, in yotsuba arc he calls kira murderer. He also killed innocent people like fbi agent, Naomi Misora, Lind L Tailer(in beginning he seemed so) he mocked both Lind L Tailor and Naomi Misora after writing their name on death note. Lying to kiyomi takada and later when she realises he is cheating he responds "why are women like this". If he really cared about justice why hurt innocent people. I feel like it was his was for justifying his mistake. Your thoughts?
Mm, Light's complicated blend of motives is one of the things that makes his character as well-written and interesting as it is.
The way he first started using the notebook in the manga and first became a murderer, and everything about his upbringing and life circumstances, makes the path he takes one you can sort of understand logically and emotionally, even if not agree with or condone. I think he needed to justify becoming a murderer to himself by seeing it as for an altruistic noble cause because he had grown up seeing people like violent criminals as a despicable and lesser type of beings. He saw the current justice system as flawed and inefficient, and criminals as a certain category of inherently morally deficient people, because of growing up a sheltered prodigy in Soichiro's home. He couldn't bear the thought of being seen as a "despicable murderer" himself, either in his own mind or by people like his family. We see how he becomes curious to test out the notebook, but also first specifies it should be the kind of person who "deserves to die," and then picks a victim who most people would agree is a very scummy and destructive person (someone violently endangering a bunch of innocent children). But his criteria for who "deserves to die" shifts quickly to anybody defying him, or standing in his way, or wounding his ego, once he really gets in deep with his plans. And he knows it is wrong on some level, but he excuses it to himself by saying that it will all be worth it in the end once the world is perfectly free of everyone corrupt, and that anybody trying to stop him is basically keeping him from saving the world – which he believes he is the best possible person and only possible person who could actually do so, because of how much he has always been told he is exceptional by everybody else. I think he genuinely believes in his ideals about justice and right and wrong, but at the start he is also having fun being a rebel and concocting all his secret schemes and tricking all the clever people around him too. He is also very afraid of being seen as flawed and mistaken, and of being caught and put to death, and of the shame and embarrassment and sorrow it would cause his loved ones. I think he hides that from the audience and himself most times, and usually compartmentalizes it by telling himself he is right and that they will eventually believe he is too once he "wins". It's really hard to pick only one or the other thing that drives Light to do what he does, and I think it's nearly impossible to untangle all his various motives from each other and claim it was definitely only one thing or the other that drove him to do what he did.

I’m seeing all these absolutely hilariously cute Anya Forger in (insert manga/anime memes) and that one YouTube channel doing 100 Anyas taking over the world thing but....
You know what the world really needs?
** Anaya Forger meets Yotsuba Koiwai. **
The heroes in a crossover we need but don’t deserve.
Found family? Check.
Cuteness? Check.
Adventure? Check.
Mayhem? UNLEASHED.

If you were to make a Lawlight playlist, what songs would you have on it?
OHOHO ohhh man, bless you for this ask
Ok, I wanted to tell the story of their relationship from when they first meet, their cat-and-mouse rivalry, their bonding during yotsuba arc, the betrayal, making up, and wrap it all up with a happy ending! I’m also really into making playlists with fun transitions between songs.
Here ya go, listen to them in order for the full experience! I made a youtube playlist for it here
Fight the War - Kittie Harloe
Teeth - 5 Seconds of Summer
Such a Whore (Stellular Remix) - JVLA (this one’s optional lol)
Made for You - OneRepublic
Great Big Storm - Nathan Ruess
Read My Mind - The Killers
Someone To You - BANNERS
Geronimo - Sheppard
You Light My Fire - Nate Ruess
If I Lose Myself - OneRepublic
The Death of Me - Marianas Trench
Porcelain - Marianas Trench
Lights Out, Words Gone - Bombay Bicycle Club
Lost My Mind - Alice Kristiansen
Blood // Water - grandson
Lions and Dragons - Zach Williams
To Build a Home - The Cinematic Orchestra
Only the Lonely Survive - Marianas Trench
If you listen to it, lemme know what you think! If you wanna know more about each song choice, read my play-by-play expo below the cut!
Fight the War - Pre-relationship! The cat-and-mouse chase. The game of chess. Catch me if you can! Not romantic yet, we’re setting the stage!
Teeth - This one’s pretty self-explanatory LMAO. Their first meeting and it’s electric! They hate each other, but they’re catching feelings, and they hate that they’re catching feelings.
Such a Whore (Stellular Remix) - Aight, hear me out. Their relationship’s got layers. This one’s super love/hate and spicy lol. It’s pretty self-indulgent. You can omit this one if you want, it’s admittedly the weakest link in terms of playlist flow.
Made For You - Still dancing around one another, sizing the other up. (also love the church-like vocals at the end. Perfectly eerie! It really fits the themes of the show) --- and I’m REAL PROUD of the transition here between songs
Great Big Storm - Yotsuba arc time! Tonal shift! This one’s sort of when their relationship transitions into something more genuine; more supportive. Things start to get more joyful! I see it as mostly from Light’s perspective, especially the verse lyrics about falling asleep --- “But sometimes I fall sleep at night, and I just know you're smiling at me / Oh, one day I'm gonna make this up to you“
Read My Mind - They’re stuck together 24/7. They can’t avoid talking, man. But the more they talk, the more they find they intuitively understand the other. They start not-so-subtly flirting (”A subtle kiss that no one sees”) ---- also love this line for them: “Woman, open the door, don't let it sting /  I wanna breathe that fire again“
These next few are just more relationship vibes! Bonding time!
Someone To You - L’s POV! He’s falling, and falling HARD. He wants to come out of the shadows for Light-- to give him the world! I imagine that this is still all in his head. Daydreaming about what could be!
Geronimo - Deciding to take the plunge! I imagine this like a montage.
You Light My Fire - CELEBRATE! Both of them are super giddy! I like the lyrics about going to bed after a fight for them! “I wanna throw the fight and kiss away your pain tonight But that would only make this harder She can't stand to sleep alone, ah no, and I hate losing so I wait till we get tired“
If I Lose Myself - First-time vibes :’D awww
The Death of Me - They wake up one day and realize: “Oh. Oh no. This is a bad idea, a really REALLY bad idea--- but I can’t help it!” Tonal shift back and forth from hype to introspective back to hype for the internal argument. The lyrics are pretty on the nose lol. (the end of the song also has some creepy whispering ‘cuz it’s supposed to be listened to in the context of the album, but it helps lead into the next song SO WELL.)
Porcelain - This is a moment of weakness. Someone slips up; something’s brought to the light. They’re only human. No going back now.
Lights Out, Words Gone - Angst time! They comforted each other during the last song, but neither of them like being vulnerable. They have a lot of work to do if this is going to last. They make up by the end of the song. Love the lyrics about lies! Pretty apt for these two: “Keep your old and wasted word My heart is breaking like you heard But the town has always turned These lies and made them all burn”
Lost My Mind - Gently falling deeper and deeper. Too fast; too soon. They know they’re running out of time, but it’s so easy to ignore that when they’re with each other.
Blood // Water - KIRA’S BACK. BETRAYAL. REALITY COMES CRASHING DOWN. (I really like the transition into this one)
Lions and Dragons - The aftermath of the betrayal. Light’s the Dragon, breathing fire, and L’s the Lion, burned. “I lost you again And I lost my mind And I told folks that they Shouldn't call for a while You should write me one evening And point out all the problems that happened But I'll still wait and dream That you are the lion and I am the dragon” (lowkey, this was my go-to breakup song in college lol)
To Build a Home - They’ve both hurt and been hurt. They’ll never forget, because if they did their forgiveness would be meaningless. Light remembers everything he’s done -- he’ll never not be Kira. But they’re ready to move forward. They’ve chosen each other.
Only the Lonely Survive - Bringing the mood back up! I couldn’t not end this on something upbeat. They deserve to have some fun! Love the lyrics in this one for them! They’ve accepted what their relationship will always be, and embrace it! (I also love that the harmonization makes it sound like they’re singing to each other) “I don't know how you feel yourself But I'd rather hurt here than be happy somewhere else No one will scar me like you do But no one will ever be compared, compared to you” -------AND “But I know A love like this will end in tragedy You know Every kiss suspendin' gravity Burns us both To love this close We lose ourselves And I know we won't get out alive But only the lonely survive” (If I can find the time I’d love to animate them singing this chorus)
And that’s that! If you want an album for Lawlight vibes, I highly recommend “Phantoms” by Marianas Trench. It was hard not to just copy/paste all the songs from it into the playlist.

I feel like the nature of Light’s ideology and his methods get caricatured a great deal in the fandom (especially by those who only viewed the anime). I keep seeing popular memes about Light killing petty shoplifters who are only attempting to feed their family and I always get the sense that they’re largely inaccurate (for the most part). Light notices in the Yotsuba arc that Kira’s sentencing spares those: who’ve served their sentences and improved their ways, who committed justifiable crimes, and who have shown remorse. So it feels off to seeing portrayed that way, especially when Light’s elimination of innocents (such as the FBI agents, Naomi, etc...) are usually for strategic purposes, intended to help him progress ahead. Not to mention this pervasive belief that Light apparently didn’t know that he would be bound to sentence some innocents to death (with his large kill count per day). Wouldn’t it be more likely that Light knew that it was inevitable and was willing to sacrifice those lives for “the greater good,” in his view?
This is a doozy of an ask, anon. But it is GLORY bc these are all excellent things for me to ramble about Light (thank you!). I’ll take them point by point, strap in cause this is a bit long. *cracks knuckles*
You’re absolutely right that fandom often boils Light’s character and ideology down to a few basic elements that are distorted, mostly to drag him. Let’s be honest-- it’s fun to drag characters, even our favs-- and pretty much everyone in Death Note deserves it. But it does become annoying when its inaccurate, like with your example about who Kira focused on killing and some others I see. To be clear, this isn’t any kind of apology for the bastardly things Light DID do, but clarifying what he was and wasn’t about.
Did Light kill petty criminals?
The only time it is mentioned that Light kills criminals for non-serious crimes is when he was under surveillance by L (the infamous potato chip scene) and had to kill someone on the news right then, as well as the immediate coverup. In that circumstance, he couldn’t afford to be picky-- he needed L to see a signature Kira death (heart attack) when Light supposedly couldn’t be doing it. The crimes that appeared on the news that night (in his chip bag TV lol) ended up being non-serious criminals, and Light wasn’t so thrilled about this.
Tumblr media
Mainly because it meant he had to cover his tracks and kill a few more minor criminals so it really did look like Kira’s work.
Tumblr media
But his focus was putting himself in the clear with L; those minor criminals were incidental, and when he had choice/freedom again, he did not focus on them. The ruse didn’t completely work because L thought minor criminals dying was suspicious since it deviated from Kira’s usual MO. So, L knew the real focus.
Tumblr media
This was a strategic move in service of, versus reflecting, Light’s ideology. This is something we see pop up again and again for Light. He is willing to do ‘wrong’ for the greater ‘good.’ We also see his distaste for killing petty criminals later when Light rebukes Mikami’s off-script killings in his thoughts. If Kira had been acting this way all along, then the Task Force wouldn’t have been surprised and Light wouldn’t have been pissed off that Mikami was doing it.
Tumblr media
Kira was looking for violent criminals who had escaped justice, that’s his main goal. He’s also disagreeing with Mikami’s methods of punishing wrong-doers who paid their debt to society (as opposed to the Death Row criminals I discuss below who haven’t ‘paid their debt’ yet). He doesn’t want people to fear Kira and thinks shooting fish in a barrel, so to speak, would do that. His ideology is not punitive; to him, its about prevention. Petty crime wasn’t on his radar until he had to make that a temporary focus for his safety.
Did Light focus on criminals already in prison?
I’ve seen plenty of posts in the Death Note tag grousing about how Light was ‘dumb’ because he only focused on criminals in prison, but that’s not wholly accurate. The first two names he wrote were criminals he witnessed in the process of a crime with actual victims that needed help (a hostage scenario where the perp had already murdered people, and a man about to rape). Then he went for the Big Bads in the news- the most vicious criminals world-wide.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other than criminals at large, he DID kill some criminals in prison. The times he did so were:
1) Killing criminals on Death Row who, in the eyes of law enforcement, “deserved the death penalty several times over.” These are criminals who had already been sentenced to die and Kira enacted the ‘justice.’
Tumblr media
2) During Light’s ‘testing phase’ of the Death Note when he was trying to understand the rules in a population he could control
3) When he was trying to be conspicuous about deaths for L’s benefit, like throwing off the assumption that Kira was a student. Light knew that those deaths would be found immediately and attributed to Kira.
Tumblr media
For 2 and 3, these criminals were likely to be on Death Row given what was said by INTERPOL about who Kira was killing behind bars. Ironically, even L thought Death Row criminals needed to die-- he chose Lind L Tailor from Death Row for his stunt, and said on TV he’d seek the death penalty for Kira. Hmm.
Why did Light kill innocent people?
The innocent people that Light killed include Raye Penber, the rest of the FBI agents in Japan investigating Kira, and Naomi Misora. L and Watari might be considered innocent per Kira’s ideology (Watari had probably murdered people but L had probably not, directly). Rem technically killed L and Watari, but Light certainly wanted them to die and orchestrated it that way. The innocent people that Light WOULD have killed include the Task Force (Mogi, Aizawa, Matsuda, Ide) and the SPK (Halle, Gevanni, Rester, Near,) if he’d won in the warehouse.
The main thread tying all these people together? They were all imminent threats to Light and were actively trying to stop and/or kill him. Killing them would never have crossed his mind if that hadn’t been the case. THAT DOESN’T MEAN HE DIDN’T ENJOY IT. Taking out his enemies was something Light did savor, he really loved that win. But it wasn’t like he wiped out the entire FBI or Japanese police force. Those were not his targets; these were individuals who threatened his goal and life, and he saw their killing as self-defense.
Did Light kill any criminals who were innocent or wrongly convicted?
It’s certainly possible that he did but the manga never touches on it. Given that his MO for killing incarcerated criminals was limited to Death Row, he probably felt like those were safe bets (we know that’s not always the case in the real world, of course). But let’s say that Light, in canon, found out he’d killed someone wrongfully convicted. In the beginning of his journey as Kira (at 17-18), I honestly don’t think he’d given this a lot of thought. What’s funny is that Light was naively, and paradoxically, putting a lot of faith in the human justice system while simultaneously enacting his own justice that relied on having zero faith in the traditional channels. Makes my head spin, but Light is a fascinating character because of that kind of thinking. He championed sweeping ideals of right and wrong, but couldn’t be bothered with getting in the murky details.
But by the time he’d grown up and matured some, especially after becoming part of the police force himself, he would have know it was a possibility. At that point, I agree that he’d view it as an inevitable sacrifice in service of, but not directly reflecting, his ‘greater good,’ like the previous choices he’d made.
So why is Kira’s ideology so often distorted? For one thing, his thinking is kind of convoluted. The anime has less nuance about what Light’s about, and many people just watch that. Another common reason I see for this is that someone really, really hates Light for defeating L, and once we dislike someone it becomes easier to roll in more and more unlikeable qualities into a nasty villain pie. Any trait that is ‘bad’ can be overlaid onto Light because he is ‘bad,’ so it fits right?? Ha....no. He has plenty of bad traits and actions of his own to drag him for without inventing new ones. At the same time, I see L’s flaws and negative traits/actions being hand-waved away or justified because he is their fav. It happened with Minoru, too.

A few weeks ago I reblogged a list of questions around Death Note and thought "well if no one asks that's a shame but it's fine". I then remembered (then = now) that this is my blog. I can talk about what I want without prompting.
So, here I go. Rest is under the cut.
1. Do you prefer the anime or manga?
I think both versions of the series are beautiful but I have to give it to the manga. Fun fact, I read the manga in high school, just around the time the anime aired. I then proceed to not watch the anime until... about three months ago.
2. Who is your favourite character?
I'm very basic— my favourite character is L. (Runner up goes to Naomi Misora mostly due to the LABB murder cases.)
(As a side note, now that I'm older I actually really like Near and Mello. I think both are fun and got a lot more flack from the fandom than they deserved.)
3. Who is your least favourite character?
Probably Teru Mikami. I think it's because he's the character trope "I was picked on in school and now that I received one (1) bit of power I'm now acting exactly like the bullies I hated". Hypocrisy is very annoying.
4. Who were you rooting for? (Team Kira or Team L?)
Initially, when I read the manga I was cheering for both parties. I liked how Light had a supernatural edge and I liked that despite the odds, L was figuring everything out. But now? I'm 100% Team L.
5. Who is your favourite shinigami?
While I like both (I'm not including Sidoh), I think I have to give it to Ryuk. I love that he's chaotic and has always been in it for himself.
6. Which is your favourite arc?
Again, I'm basic— I like the Yotsuba arc. Mostly because it's "look at what L and Light could have been if not for the Death Note". It's bitter sweet because we know this won't last. (Also like it because it's a popular spot to divert canon in fanfiction.)
7. What character deserved better?
MISA. She deserved so much more! There was so much wasted potential with her! For example, she could have snapped out of her infatuation with Light and realized he's only using her. She could have been a threat to him! Also, wasted opportunity to have her get together with Rem (or Kiyomi Takada, which is a fascinating ship).
(Shout out to Matt as well. Boy deserved more development.)
8. Which of the openings is your favourite?
Controversial answer: Neither. I dislike both openings.
9. What is your favourite song from the OST?
Any of the ominous choir chanting tracks. Those popped off harder than required. I love it.
10. What is your favourite song from the musical?
There...is a musical?
11. Who is your favourite ship?
I like the most popular (and again basic) ship of the series: LawLight. Some of my other favourite ships:
-Misa/Rem
-Near/Mello/Matt (My eyes have been open to this OT3. Thank you, AO3.)
-Beyond Birthday/Naomi Misora (my girl deserved better than Raye Pember and yes, a serial killer with identity issues is better.)
-I've also seen Beyond/Light/L as an OT3 and that's Fascinating on so many levels.
12. When did you first get into Death Note?
I was in grade 9 or 10. I read the manga.
13. Do you own any merch? If you do, what's your favourite thing you have?
I own a Death Note. I also own the light novels (LABB murder cases and L Change the World). At one point I also owned the live action dramas but I'm not sure where those are. My favourite is the LABB murder cases. I really enjoyed that light novel.
14. What is your favourite piece of trivia?
Originally, Near and Mello's names were supposed to be swapped. There was an error in editing/printing and they mixed up the names.
15. What is your favourite line from the anime?
To this day, even if I hadn't fallen back into the series, the line "L, do you know Shinigami like apples?" has lived rent free in my brain. Upon getting back into the series, I really love the overlapping lines from Light and L when they say "I am... Justice." It's corny, yes, but also shows both of them are strong in their convictions and believes. I love parallels between opposing characters.
16. Have you read LABB?
Yes, I have! I really love it. I think if Death Note ever did an anniversary anime celebration they should animate the light novel. Or animate the one-shot.
17. If you've consumed any of the side media (novels, musical, TV drama, etc.), which is your favourite?
Besides the LABB light novel, I love the drama. I love how it ended with L exposing Light. It's a fun "what if the series went this way" ending.
18. What song reminds you of Death Note? (Either a specific character or the story as a whole.)
Many, many, many years ago a friend showed me an AMV for Death Note to the song "Chop Suey!" by System of a Down. To this day it still makes me think of Death Note.

ATLA and death note! I trust your taste. Do you know any good L wins fics?
Hello! Sorry it took this long, I am less active these days due to irl obligations, so here, have some belated recs:
"This Is How I Disappear" by TzviaAriella on fanfiction.net - No ships and not completely L focused, but it's a great look into the characters' heads in a world where Light got caught and is about to be executed. Matsuda and L's characterisation are the stand out elememts for me.
"Phlegethon River" by Nilahxapiel on fanfiction.net - an AU where L wins, Light gets locked up and the former watches through the years as Light's mental state declines with each visit. A grim piece of writing that hits you in just the right places.
"Is This The Way It Ends Now?" by Seastar98 on ao3 - Do you know those 'Character watch their show' type of fanfics? This is one of those that goes well into the complexities of such a premise. The characters' psychology is beautifully laid out through their reaction to pivotal scenes and elements from the show and you actually see them act on their new found knowlegde. It includes the "Light and Kira are separated" concept and I am mentioning it in case it isn't your thing. A great read though.
New Game by TrashKing ( Vanya_Deyja ) on ao3. I guesss both L and Light win in this one in a way? Set during the Yotsuba arc, a memoryless Light suspects himself and agrees with L's theory. Watch these two smarmy bastards in their little bubble learn to get along and hide stuff from the Task Force. The Lawlight dynamic here is highly addicting, I honestly can't get enough of how the author writes them.
"Darkness ( is the absence of light )" by SilverDoe290s on ao3 - SO UNDERRATED. Set in a world where L won and Light was executed. This is, in my oponion, one of the most accurate depictions of L in such a situation that I've ever read. The Lawlight is thin and implied more than anything, but you can feel L's regret, having lost his equal. You can feel the unwillingness to admit such a thing too. And the ending is the cherry on top of it all.
"Between the Black and White" by Serria on fanfiction.net - AU where L wins and keeps Light as a prisoner who works for him. It's unfortunately unfinished, however there are enough Lawlight scenes up until the latest chapter to bring up this aspect. A good slow burn where the characters try to maintain their ground despite their circumstances. There's also some surprise twists and appearances in there you might enjoy.
"Coexistence is boredom" by Sakurazukamori6 on fanfiction.net. A fandom classic and I think it deserves the praise it has gotten. I won't mention too much for fear of giving anything away, but be prepared for lots of hurt feelings with this one.

why my lawlight playlist absolutely smacks
no for real hear me out
with most of my playlists i like to keep some sort of order, so this one is in order chronologically
———————————————————————
the sharpest lives:
You're the one that I need
I'm the one that you loathe You can watch me corrode Like a beast in repose
Give me a shot to remember And you can take all the pain away from me Your kiss and I will surrender The sharpest lives are the deadliest to lead
what you deserve:
Tell me just how deep you would dig/If you could bury me
I'd claw my way back through hell to bring you to your knees/I want to see your face as you watch world fall apart at the seams
I know all your secrets/I know all your lies
ignorance:
You're not a judge, but if you're gonna judge me/Well, sentence me to another life
chasing you:
Won’t get too close to you Because the thrill of it Is tryna get you, get you, get you
Constantly closing in Don’t wanna lose, but then again Don’t really wanna win
beautiful crime:
Take what you need, say your goodbyes I gave you everything And it's a beautiful crime
Each breath I left behind Each breath you take is mine Walking on a line ten stories high Fear a fall, you're asking why
I have to make an end so we begin To save my soul at any cost
tennis court:
Because I'm doin' this for the thrill of it, killin' it Never not chasin' the million things I want
Let's go down to the tennis court And talk it up like yeah (yeah)
losing my religion:
Every whisper, of every waking hour I'm choosing my confessions Trying to keep an eye on you Like a hurt, lost and blinded fool, fool
never wanna fall in love:
I never wanna fall in love with you 'Cause I know you would break my heart in two There are so many things I'd rather do Than fall in love and end up blue
Oh what a shame Fragile lovers can't partake in games
jet black heart:
See a war I wanna fight it See a match I wanna strike it Every fire I've ignited Faded to grey
'Cause I've got a jet black heart And there's a hurricane underneath it Trying to keep us apart I write with a poison pen But these chemicals moving between us Are the reason to start again
just one yesterday:
Oh, I want to teach you a lesson in the worst kind of way Still I'd trade all my tomorrows for just one yesterday
If I spilled my guts The world would never look at you the same way Now, I'm here to give you all of my love So I can watch your face as I take it all away, away, away, yeah
little lies:
So I'll settle for one day to believe in you Tell me, tell me, tell me lies
Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies
my strange addiction:
Bad, bad news One of us is gonna lose I'm the powder, you're the fuse Just add some friction
from eden:
Honey you're familiar like my mirror years ago Idealism sits in prison, chivalry fell on it's sword Innocents died screaming, honey ask me I should know I slithered here from Eden just to sit outside your door
bad religion:
To me, it's nothing but a one-man cult And cyanide in my styrofoam cup I can never make him love me Never make him love me Love me
problems:
I've found love in the strangest place Tied up and branded, locked in a cage I say I'm gonna stage a great escape Let loose a love all pent up and painfully out of place
hurricane:
You and God both got the guns When you shoot, I think I'd duck
Oh, I'd confess, I'd confess To the room where I'm blessed But he didn't come and speak to me Or put my heart at ease And I believe that half the time I am a wolf among the sheep Gnawing at the wool over my eyes
Fix me or conflict me I'll take anything
waterloo:
Waterloo I was defeated, you won the war Waterloo Promise to love you forever more
Waterloo Couldn't escape if I wanted to Waterloo Knowing my fate is to be with you
And how could I ever refuse I feel like I win when I lose
------start of yotsuba arc------
playing god:
Well, maybe you should tie me up So I don't go where you don't want me
You say that I've been changing That I'm not just simply aging Yeah, how could that be logical? Just keep on cramming ideas down my throat
If God's the game that you're playing Well, we must get more acquainted Because it has to be so lonely To be the only one who's holy
It's just my humble opinion But it's one that I believe in You don't deserve a point of view If the only thing you see is you
every breath you take:
Every breath you take And every move you make Every bond you break Every step you take I'll be watching you
Every single day And every word you say Every game you play Every night you stay I'll be watching you
ready for it:
Knew he was a killer first time that I saw him Wonder how many girls he had loved and left haunted But if he's a ghost, then I can be a phantom Holdin' him for ransom
I see nothing better, I keep him forever Like a vendetta-ta
And he can be my jailer, Burton to this Taylor Every lover known in comparison is a failure
head over feet:
I had no choice but to hear you You stated your case time and again I thought about it
You've already won me over in spite of me Don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet Don't be surprised if I love you for all that you are I couldn't help it It's all your fault
killer + the sound:
Sometimes I think I'm a killer Scared you in your house
But I can't sleep next to a body Even harmless in death Plus I'm pretty sure I'd miss you Faking sleep to count your breath
Can the killer in me Tame the fire in you? Is there nothing left to do for us? I am sick of the chase But I'm hungry for blood And there's nothing I can do
peace:
All these people think love's for show But I would die for you in secret The devil's in the details, but you got a friend in me Would it be enough if I could never give you peace?
Give you the silence that only comes when two people understand each other
But there's robbers to the east, clowns to the west I'd give you my sunshine, give you my best But the rain is always gonna come if you're standing with me
light my love:
Your mind is a stream of colors Extending beyond our sky A land of infinite wonders A billion lightyears from here now
out like a light:
Take me up tight Strung up like a kite Dumb, wicked, and white Love me in spite And if I betray our lonely nights spent out like a light With no kiss goodnight Would we ever fight when I'm away?
-----end of yotsuba arc------
everything i wanted:
If I knew it all then would I do it again? Would I do it again? If they knew what they said would go straight to my head What would they say instead?
im a fool to want you:
I'm a fool to hold you Such a fool to hold you To seek a kiss not mine alone To share a kiss the Devil has known
Take me back, I love you Pity me, I need you I know it's wrong, it must be wrong But right or wrong I can't get along Without you
moonlight on the river:
I'd say, see you later, if I thought I'd see you later And I'd tell you, that I loved you, if I did It's so strange, deciding, how to feel about it It's such strange, emotion, standing there beside it
I'm home, with moonlight on the river, saying my goodbyes I'm home, there's moonlight on the river, everybody dies
atlantis:
I can't save us My Atlantis, we fall We've built this town on shaky ground I can't save us My Atlantis, oh no We've built it up to pull it down
Losing everything I've ever known It's all become too much Maybe I'm not built for love If I knew that I could reach you, I would go
i don’t love you:
When you go And would you even turn to say I don't love you Like I did Yesterday
no children:
I hope it stays dark forever I hope the worst isn't over And I hope you blink before I do And I hope I never get sober
And I hope when you think of me years down the line You can't find one good thing to say And I'd hope that if I found the strength to walk out You'd stay the hell out of my way
I am drowning There is no sign of land You are coming down with me Hand in unlovable hand
And I hope you die I hope we both die
diary of jane:
Try to find out What makes you tick, as I lie down Sore and sick, do you like that? Do you like that? There's a fine line Between love and hate and I don't mind Just let me say that I like that I like that
Something's getting in the way Something's just about to break I will try to find my place In the diary of Jane
Desperate I will crawl Waiting for so long, no love There's no love Die for anyone What have I become?
burn bright:
Well if you're lost little boy The cameras pull you right back down, yeah It's like a chemical burn
I'm peeling off your skin, yeah And when you see your face Well you'll never be the same again, yeah
Cause if you just stop breathing I'll stop, stop my heart I'll stop breathing too
Don't go if you got more to say 'Cause the world don't need
Another hopeless cause Though it makes me who I am 'Cause it makes me who I am And you made me who I am And you made me who I am Be afraid of what I am
look what you made me do (lol):
I don't like your little games Don't like your tilted stage The role you made me play of the fool No, I don't like you
I don't like your perfect crime How you laugh when you lie
But I got smarter, I got harder in the nick of time Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time I got a list of names, and yours is in red, underlined I check it once, then I check it twice, oh!
I don't like your kingdom keys They once belonged to me You asked me for a place to sleep Locked me out and threw a feast
I don't trust nobody and nobody trusts me I'll be the actress starring in your bad dreams
two slow dancers:
We're just two slow dancers, last ones out We're two slow dancers, last ones out
And the ground has been slowly pulling us back down You see it on both our skin We get a few years and then it wants us back
To think that we could stay the same
clean:
Hung my head as I lost the war And the sky turned black like a perfect storm
Rain came pouring down When I was drowning, that's when I could finally breathe
sleep:
Don't you breathe for me Undeserving of your sympathy 'Cause there ain't no way that I'm sorry for what I did
And through it all, how could you cry for me? 'Cause I don't feel bad about it So shut your eyes Kiss me, goodbye And sleep Just sleep
Just sleep Wake up!
-------L's death--------
my tears ricochet:
If I'm on fire, you'll be made of ashes too
You know I didn't want to have to haunt you But what a ghostly scene
And you can aim for my heart, go for blood But you would still miss me in your bones And I still talk to you (when I'm screaming at the sky) And when you can't sleep at night (you hear my stolen lullabies)
I didn't have it in myself to go with grace And so the battleships will sink beneath the waves You had to kill me, but it killed you just the same Cursing my name, wishing I stayed You turned into your worst fears
why didn’t you stop me:
I know that I ended it, but Why won't you chase after me? You know me better than I do So why didn't you stop me?
I look for a picture of you To keep in my pocket But I can't seem to find one Where you look how I remember
careless whisper:
I'm never gonna dance again Guilty feet have got no rhythm Though it's easy to pretend I know you're not a fool
Should've known better than to cheat a friend And waste the chance that I'd been given So I'm never gonna dance again The way I danced with you
To the heart and mind Ignorance is kind There's no comfort in the truth Pain is all you'll find
Maybe it's better this way We'd hurt each other with the things we'd want to say
We could have been so good together We could have lived this dance forever
Now that you're gone (Now that you're gone) Was what I did's so wrong, so wrong That you had to leave me alone?

One of reasons why I don’t like Death Note mundane AUs/no notebook/Light refuses notebook/Light forgets about Kira forever AUs much probably is because Light tends to be boring in them more often than not. Usually in other fandoms I like this type of AUs well enough but in DN I’m more into canon-ish things. To be fair, I have a couple favorites in DN too. But majority of them just, dunno, feel so bland to me.
I mean, people tend to make a complete innocent naive goody-two-shoes out of Light if he’s not Kira and then just go with “soft bois are soft and friendship is magic” dynamic (or pair him with a high-handed macho L and it’s even worse; also, in which universe is L a macho? the guy can’t even live without a caretaker). It’s like... did we watch/read the same story? This same goody-two-shoes genuinely thinks that the world is rotten and those who are making it rot deserve to die. This same soft boy found a notebook of doom and killed a couple hundreds of people with it in just a few days. The notebook didn’t implant him with a new personality, no. It’s his own personality, just somewhat deformed/warped by circumstances. There is a duality, there is a boredom and an existential void, there is a darkness lurking under a perfect surface. That’s the whole point of Light’s character, a blend of perfect and imperfect. I do not believe in him as Evil McEvil from the moment he was born blah, not at all, but he wouldn’t grow up to be all nice tame sararyman even without the notebook, too. Amnesiac Light is under extreme duress and on his bestest behavior there, trying to save himself from an execution for the stuff he doesn’t remember doing. But he’s still the person who thinks that the world is rotten.
Hypothetical 25-30yo!mundane!Light is such an interesting guy, really. He wouldn’t go full Kira without the notebook for sure, most likely would never do anything seriously illegal. But his power thirst and cunning ambitious mindset would’ve surfaced anyway, and his idealism would fade with years or take a more balanced form, and he would never be an easy person to have a relationship with, and he would probably always be up to something big etc. Light is many things but nice person he is not. Even Yotsuba!Light isn’t all that nice. Neither he nor L are good people. But it sometimes feels like people are trying to overcompensate for Light’s canon deeds in AUs and as a result just erase his whole personality and replace it with the one that is basically Matsuda, only a Genius, Less Enthusiastic and Mildly Sarcastic one. It’s much easier to write wholesome HEAs like this, of course, so I get where the impulse comes from. But I lose all the interest every time that happens, I can’t help it. He becomes just too good to be believable. And too boring.

do you think Light as a character is sympathetic?
In a way.
Mind you, I don't think making him likable or sympathetic was a main objective, but I do think that every well-rounded character has some relatable traits. He's not an average person in most regards, but he has to deal with themes and ideas most of us are familiar with. That's why I find the sneak peeks into his school and family life - his private life - so important.
Most of us will probably automatically think about how we would have acted in his stead. And I think the one thing most of us can relate to, is the feeling of disappointment when you're a teen and find out the world is neither as just nor as exciting as we thought (and hoped).
Or course Light is hardly ever truly powerless, but I still think feeling like you are, is the main incentive for us to think about if and how we would use the Death Note. For a good reason, most readers/watchers will become anti-Kira pretty quickly. But that doesn't mean Light's actions - Light's entire character arc - will get any less fascinating.
I remember when I first read the manga and truly hated him... For a reason I couldn't completely understand then, I still wanted him to regain his memories during the Yotsuba arc and to continue being Kira. I don't wanted him to him at all; I wanted to watch himfinally crash against a wall. To get to the point of no return (arguably, he already was there near the beginning, haha). I got a sense of what was roughly going to happen when we saw how cruel he could be with Naomi and I wanted to see it unfold.
And even though I later spoiled myself and kind of knew what was going to happen in the last chapter, I absolutely wasn't ready for it. I still very much hated Light, and yet I found his last moments extremely hard to read.
My reactions to Light's arc are just one among many, of course. But I'm quite sure it was meant to be uncomfortable. Why should the conclusion of a story about a villain protagonist who thinks certain people deserve to get murdered, essentially, proving him right? It makes sense to pity even him in the end.
