No one has ever seen inside those pages and simply saw a boy that did whatever he pleased. Subscribing to an ideology that both fit with society and spat in its face.

He cared for order.

But never at the cost of others.

And if you were at the top you were never to be trusted.

Unless you were Fukuzawa.

But until Kunikida joined the Agency he was seen as a simple delinquent.

Kunikida scoffed at that yet you’d never hear him deny it.

I had the same question when I first saw the character design (and the actual spear itself) and did some sleuthing around!...which invariably sent me down a massive rabbit hole XD

(note: I'm not an expert or professional or anything, just someone who loves lore and research)

The lettering is actually in bonji or Sanskrit script - so from bottom to top (using Sanskrit pronunciation): sa, hrih, ha. They are also seed syllables of Buddha and bodhisattvas. Off the top my head I know hrih is the seed syllable of the Amida Buddha and the other two (can't remember which belongs to who) is Ksitigarbha (aka Jizo) and Avalokiteshvara (aka Kannon). The three of them are also commonly grouped together as the Amida triad and referred to in Pure Land Buddhism (at least Amida Buddha is).

Additionally, on the spear itself - from the bottom - you have a little lotus flower to denote the seat for the buddhas (honestly my favourite detail!) and then the bonji hāmmām (again Sanskrit pronunciation) which is the seed syllable for Acala (aka Fudo Myoo). Then the symbol of the vajra and (Fudo myoo's ?) sword and the 3 bonji which is what is tattooed on Tonbokiri's chest as explained before.

P.P.S. I believe Sengo Muramasa (also known as Myoho Muramasa) also has a couple of engravings on the sword and mantra from the Lotus Sutra of Nichiren Buddhism. His emblem in the game looks to be representative of the thousand hand kannon bodhisattva. I just think it's cool that the Muramasa blades are connected by spiritual heritages of the swordsmiths, too, in addition to being of the same school :)

While im here, does anyone know enough about japanese to help me figure out what tonbokiri's tattoo says? I havent seen it in any of his wiki articles and i dont know how to translate japanese (i have yet to try an image translator but i dont fully trust those)

Just watched episode 1 of From Bureaucrat to Villainess and it's so ridiculously wholesome!??? 😍

No creeping or anything weird. Just a middle aged guy accepting his fate and (unknowingly by nature) being a wholesome (parental) person to the teen cast he encounters in the game. A little confused but he's got the spirit!

At least that's the vibe I got from the first episode and also from the trailer.

I have really good hopes for this one and definitely recommend to watch this season :)

Looks like it's gonna be a funny and heartwarming ride!

According to the trailer, his family comes to know he has been isekaied into the game!?? Can't wait to get to that part and see how they get him out, if they do!

And the whole family being otakus is so cute!!!! They seem pretty tight knit and lovely 🥰
