So the above video is set to be the last of four released via the Wright Staff Youtube channel featuring Tanaka talking about Arslan Senki. So far only the first is available (we have to wait a week between each one). I'll share the Google Translated section breakdown and a link for each video below so you can see what will be covered.

So you can see the parts I'm most interested in lmao. The Arslan and Hilmes section only got one 👀 because I have found Tanaka's comments on Hilmes infuriating before, including one interview that still enrages me whenever I think of it, and I'm expecting it might hit the same notes. Tanaka has precedent for revealing little tidbits of info outside of the novels like this, so I'm curious to see what we'll get besides the hinted at confirmation of the nature of Gieve and Farangis's relationship (unless he's teasing us and is going to tell us it's just between them, lol... also remembering that he did refer to Gieve as a 'stalker' before when touching on this question!).

Very curious about the Daryun and Narsus section, too.

I'm assuming since the specific character sections all seem to have two characters paired up, a focal point of those sections might be their relationship to each other, either in terms of the narrative or the way those characters interact with each other.

The Value of  “The Heroic Legend of Arslan” Manga.

   Just recently the news got: Hiromu Arakawa's(the mangaka of Fullmetal Alchemist,Silver Spoon) “The Heroic Legend of Arslan” Manga is getting the great preparations for its "final,decisive battle". Namely the  outcome of the upcoming Fierce battle will certainly judge the life of Prince Arslan,and of all of the kingdom of Pars.Of course this,in one or other way, will have a Great Impact on its avid supporters in Iran.

Physician Yoshiki Tanaka created the Light Novel series Amir Arsalan,this is the basis for Hiromu Arakawa’s  action-fantasy manga through Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine.

The story is:

ECBATANA IS BURNING

   In the prosperous kingdom of Pars lies the Royal Capital of Ecbatana, a city of splendor and wonder, ruled by the undefeated and fearsome King Andragoras. Arslan is the young and curious prince of Pars,who despite his best efforts doesn't seem to be qualified for a proper king, like his father. At the age of 14, Arslan goes to his first battle,but loses everything as the blood-soaked mist of war gives way to scorching flames, he’s in pain witnessing the demise of his once glorious kingdom. However,Arslan is  destined to be a ruler, and despite the trials and hardships he faces,he has to reclaim his fallen kingdom.

The anime adaptation is set in ancient Persian-inspired fantasy world.

The comments for The Heroic Legend of Arslan are largely positive: "Thank you Japanese for portraying Iran's history," or "You have brought pride to the country's history and culture."

Many netizens were surprised that Japan would make an animation about Iran. One fan thought that Japan "pitied" Iranian history and that "the world is gradually coming to understand our culture and ancient stories." Many regretted how much ancient Persian history was passed over in Iran in favor of Islamic themes. "Iran only makes movies about Islam and Arabs," the above fan wrote. "Our country has many glories and stories, but it doesn't make movies or dramas about them. There are countless religious movies and dramas, but the settings and characters aren't Iranian," another lamented, going on to compare Arslan's depiction of ancient Persia favorably to Hollywood portrayals like Prince of Persia, 300 and Alexander.

Some commenters were pazzled why Iran doesn't have an active animation industry,why Arslan wasn't made in Iran. "I think the country should make animation about our own history" is a typical remark. "Those who think this anime is worthless, why don't you make a better one? This is a very good anime. If you don't like it, you don't have to watch it," huffed another commenter. An animation student defended Iran's animators and pointes out that one, Rasoul Azadani, had worked on films of the Disney Renaissance, albeit opportunities to study animation and broadcast it were severely limited.

A few comments took issue with the anime's so called immorality, especially since the priestess and formidable archer Farangis (above) is dressed immodestly. "The Japanese have certainly made a story based on Iranian civilization, but there must be ulterior motives behind this," one poster assertes. "It becomes clear when you look at the women's clothes. It's true that at that time Iranian women did not cover their heads, but they wore clothes that covered their bodies. Before others recreate Iranian history for us, why don't we study our own virtuous history?" Another viewer went further and claimed the anime was a plot to deceive Iranian girls. "The opinion that Farangis is virtuous, even though she doesn't wear a hijab, is ridiculous. There is a direct link between feminine virtue and the hijab... [but] Iranian girls are wise and the enemy is misguided."

Yet there are netizens perceiving  that Japanese animators were attempting to corrupt Iranians,or due to the anachronism of judging pre-Islamic Iran by Islamic standards of morality. "Unfortunately some people in our country think of other countries as against ours, and don't want to think that the expression of thought and speech in newspapers, animation or film is free." Another fan noted that "anime these days is full of [women dressed immodestly]. There are no Zionists or puppeteers behind the scenes. Why do Iranians question others so much?" Others pointed to ancient wall art showing nude women, or recommended the anime for its incorporation of elements from the national epic, the Shahnameh, like the stories of Rostam, Farangis and Siyavash. "You won't be able to say it has nothing to do with Iranian history and culture," a history aficionado asserted.

Both Japan and Iran have ancient history and civilization.tanaka sensei,Arakawa sensei too took this bold decision due to their fondness for iran.And the Japanese animators went along well with the decision for this anime,which is Higher than Game of Thrones.No offence,the point is GoT is lame, compared to Arslan Senki.

Either Arslan will have a solid win either will fall into the battle will make Impressions domestically ,and in Iran too. the Iranian fans of manga,anime are waiting to see...

The Heroic Legend of Arslan: Against All Odds (vol. 20).

I just need to make a post about this volume 20 story since it's really exciting, thrilling, and surprising! Battle has been won and secrets have been revealed! Secrets that I never thought of.

Here are some highlights from this volume.

Note: I really despise the character on the front cover.

Volume 20 started with the on going battle between Arslan's troops and Guiscard's at Atropatene. The situation gets worst with the arrival of Bodin. His stance was to defeat both Arslan and Guiscard. Arslan's troops was stucked since Bodin's men were coming from their back. Luckily Daryun was there to save the day.

Beware of chopping head ....

Well, if Daryun was there at the first war, then there will be no story of Arslan. XD

I laughed really hard at this scene. XD

A satisfying ending for Bodin. He was burned to death just like the way he has burned books at the capital. Narsus finally get his long time revenge on Bodin. Bravo!

Narsus was so surprised and delighted to see Elam has made a direct request. It's Elam's good progress.

Merlain: No way, I don't do orders, especially from royal blood ...

Arslan: Please? :)

It's not really a surprise to finally know that Arslan isn't the true child of Andragoras and Tahamenay. The secret has been revealed since early stories, although not that clearly. It's still sad, but in the other hand it was joyful since Arslan truly doesn't inherit the royal bad blood. It's understandable that his way of thinking and attitude towards other people (especially those with lower status than him) were so different with Andragoras.

But, what truly surprised me is this secret ....

Hilmes is Andragoras younger brother ....

I forget did I read the spoiler before ... but this revelation truly shocked me. Osores, Andragoras, and Hilmea are brothers. Hilmeas was born from the late king (Osores and Andragoras father) with Osores's wife ....

The royal blood was really fu*ked up. That's why I'm really happy Arslan didn't belong to that bloodline. And even after knowing this fact, his loyal aid still acknowledge him as their king.

I can't wait for the next volume!!!

Daryun: You noticed?

Farangis: So, am I right?

Daryun: I can’t count the number of men I’ve killed in their saddles. But I’ve never killed a man who fell from his horse without giving him the chance to get himself up.

Farangis: You would afford that even to a man who fights like a wild, frenzied beast? You are too soft.

Daryun: I agree.

Chapter 120

(Daryun walks up to a Lusitanian soldier sitting on the floor in terror. Daryun takes the spear from the soldier’s trembling hands saying “I’ll take that”. Daryun calls for Shabrang and rides away, while the sitting Lusitanian solder and another watch Daryun depart in disbelief(?) and exhaustion)

I wish the anime adaptation of The Beast Player had used the art of the manga by Itoe Takemoto like the TV anime adaptation of The Heroic Legend of Arslan did with the manga by Hiromu Arakawa

Sooo I got home from work, sat listlessly drinking yet more coffee and then remembered that this week's Tanaka ArSen interview video had dropped and was instantly revived. I've only watched through once but here's some paraphrased points and a bit of commentary.

Loving the auto-generated closed caption translations of Daryun's name… Baruen��� Darling… Darium… VALUE…

Some talk about the ending, this is obviously full of spoilers incuding character deaths so sit this one out if you don't want to know about that. He said 80% of the ending was already decided from the start and that he figured out the rest while writing (including that he decided only three characters would survive, and that although he already knew one of them, he decided on the specifics of the other two as he went…!).

OMG his cheeky little laugh as he tells you about deciding that [spoiler] and [spoiler] would die... I can't be mad, for whatever reason I found Tanaka in this video kind of endearing, he's certainly a bit more lively when talking about his characters and story decisions, and some of his comments about writing are surprisingly relatable as well

So uh Tanaka literally created Narsus for Daryun (well, as a counterpart to Daryun, who he didn't feel would be interesting enough on his own... likewise he said earlier that Daryun was created as someone who would support Arslan and make his development more realistic rather than having a young boy do everything on his own).

(Love it when he says stuff that unintentionally reinforces Daryun/Narsus. This is like when he said he writes comrades in arms working towards the same goal as an alternative to romance lmao. How was I meant to read that and not think 'well, maybe that explains it, he accidentally wrote them as a couple')

When thinking of a flaw for Narsus to have his first thought was to make him tone-deaf, but he thought that had been used too many times in other works so he opted for painting.

Elam offsets Narsus's weaknesses as a young nobleman who lacks ability in certain areas (presumably life skills like cooking etc), and although the captions conked out a bit at this stage it sounded like he's also saying Elam is there because Arslan doesn't have any friends of his age so Elam becomes his first real friend?

Alfarid shows how two people with very different social statuses can become friends, and is like a younger sister for Farangis. When creating her he considered which of the characters would be paired up with her and since Gieve and Farangis were already a "married couple" (I'm assuming that's a tongue in cheek expression here) he decided upon Narsus.
