What if Yohan tossed Gaon onto the bed instead of the floor?Grabbed him by the hair and told him to look in the mirror- “Look at your miserable and filthy appearance-” and Gaon is crying, so he strokes his hair and whispers into Gaon's ear, "I'll teach you everything now, Gaon-ah.”

And reflected back in the mirror in that elegant black bedroom is a mess of sheets and pale hands that reach to escape from the bed, but is grabbed and tugged back by another hand much larger than his, and dark eyes that are like peering into the abyss, glare over Gaon's head into the mirror as Yohan grasps his waist and 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘴.

Gaon gasps, hiccuping sobs pausing as his breath catches in his throat, fingers digging into the black sheets that catch under his desperate grasp at stability. The heat of Yohan's hands on his waist, inside him, it was all too much.

Gaon moans, saliva dripping down his chin as he bites his bottom lip to keep his sanity about him as he feels the stretch and hears the lecherous noises from behind. Ah, it was too late- everything, everything felt too good for him to tell Yohan to stop.

It was madness.

But it felt so good. What was Gaon supposed to do?

Yohan feels Gaon still in his escape attempts and submissively arch his back to bare his neck and feels a sense of thrill that had been slumbering in the pit of his stomach. Like catching a deer that had been eluding him in the darkness of the night, Yohan reached down and cupped Gaon's face in one hand leaning down to kiss him, smiling into the ever deepening kiss.

"Good choice." Yohan lets Gaon go, and Gaon whines in the back of his throat making him pause and sneak a hand down to Gaon's front. "Good boys get rewarded."

Gaon is given no respite as he pushes his hips back as best he can to meet Yohan thrust for thrust, his thoughts getting whittled down to, "More, more, more."

And Yohan gives. Just as he promised. When had he ever gone back on those sacred vows?

Yohan slides a finger down Gaon's spine, watching him flinch at the touch and breathe out shakily before crying out at Yohan's sudden bite at his nape. Yohan never stops in his roughening movements, speeding up and engraving his mark onto Gaon's pale skin in the process.

Blood mixed with saliva and ran down Gaon's shoulder as he cried out at the sudden heat within him, Yohan's handprints branding themselves onto his waist, sure to be vibrant red-purple the next morning along with the eye-catching teethmarks on his neck.

"You'll never escape me now, Kim Gaon. You'll forever be mine and mine alone." He looks at the mirror and sees Gaon's unconscious form underneath him and traces Gaon's features with a tender hand.

"I will make sure you can never live without me."

Mari: Everyone, the day has finally come~! Is everyone prepared!? Yoshiko: Kukuku! What are you saying? of course, Yohane is fully prepared! Hanamaru: We definitely need to perform the ritual this time. Ruby: Ruby didn't believe that Yoshiko-chan's ritual would really work at first. You: I didn't either. We shouldn't underestimate the power of her rituals. Chika: It's so fun being able to wear dark robes together~! Yoshiko: This sacred ritual isn't for fun! And also, it's Yohane! Riko: Hey, hey. I'm just glad that everyone agreed to come and perform the ritual. Isn't that right? Yoshiko: I knew you'd understand the significance, Little Demon Riri! Dia: Oh, I got a message...... Ruby: Who's it from? Kanan: It's from Nijigaku! They sent a message saying that they've also been working hard to prepare for their own concert~ Ehehe, I'm happy to hear that. "The Demon Girl Next Door": A Comedic Anime Worth Watching

What if one day you woke up and were a demon? Yuko experiences this dilemma in The Demon Girl Next Door. She tries to get a hold of her new form and is tasked with defeating the local magical girl... but not everything is as it seems.

Reprinted from The Geekiary, my History Hermann WordPress blog (it will be published there on Dec. 20), and Wayback Machine. This was the thirty-ninth article I wrote for The Geekiary. This post was originally published on May 18, 2022.

The Demon Girl Next Door is a supernatural and magical girl anime directed by Hiroaki Sakurai. It is based on Izumo Itō's manga parody series, is also known as "Street Corner Demon", and is filled with comedic moments from beginning to end.

As a warning, this recommendation discusses some spoilers for the first 19 episodes of The Demon Girl Next Door.

Yuko begins transforming into her crisis management form

The Demon Girl Next Door, builds off the usual story, where someone wakes up and is different from who they were when they went to sleep. One day, Yuko Yoshida (voiced by Konomi Kohara) comes to the frightening realization that she has a tail and horns. She learns that she is the descendant of a demon cursed to live in poverty by an opposing clan.

In order to restore the clan's honor, her mother, Seiko Yoshida tasks her with defeating the local magical girl of the town, Momo Chiyoda. This is easier said than done. Yuko is assisted by her ancestor, Lilith, who is trapped in a totem, and occasionally by her sister, Ryoko Yoshida.

However, Yuko is beset with a dilemma after Momo (voiced by Akari Kito) saves her from certain death. This is made even worse when she realizes that Momo attends the same high school as her! Luckily, she is helped by her school friends Anri Sata (voiced by Sayaka Senbongi) and Sion Ogura (voiced by Ayaka Suwa). Some call her "Shamiko" or by her full name "Shadow Master Yuko."

Sion is into the occult as much as Yoshiko Tsushima in Love Live!! Sunshine! who believes she is a "fallen angel" named "Yohane" and Rie Maruyama in Cue! who calls itself a demon from hell named "Ellis."

The series shares many similarities with The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated!, where a powerful demon named Jahy lives in a ratty apartment and tries to gain all of the mana crystals to restore her powers. Yuko also lives on the edge of poverty with her sister Ryoko (voiced by Hitomi Ohwada) and mother, Seiko Yoshida (voiced by Sayaka Ohara).

Similar to the aforementioned series, in The Demon Girl Next Door Yuko becomes friends with Momo and her friend from another town, Mikan Hinatsuki (voiced by Tomoyo Takayanagi). In a unique twist, Mikan has been afflicted by a "guardian spirit" that attacks whenever Mikan's heart is racing, resulting in those around her to experience calamities. This is akin to the misfortune that the magical girl faces when she uses the mana crystals in The Great Jahy.

Later in the series, it is comically revealed that Yuko and Ryoko's father, Joshua (voiced by Hideyuki Umezu) was sealed inside a cardboard citrus box by another magical girl. It turns out that the family uses this box every day to cook their meals on a hibachi!

That magical girl is named Sakura Chiyoda (voiced by Hisako Kanemoto) and the stepsister of Momo. She disappeared ten years ago after she manipulated a sacred seal to ensure she stayed in good health. It later becomes Momo, Mikan, and Yuko's mission to find her. And she does appear in one of the show's most recent episodes. Mikan, on the other hand, has a familiar named Ugallu.

In another parallel with The Great Jahy, for some time Yuko begins working at a cafe run by a demon tapir named Shirosawa (voiced by Takashi Matsuyama) which has a chef and waitress named Lico (voiced by Ayassa Ito). Although Yuko goes there to garner information about Sakura, she becomes poisoned by the food, which makes her a work zombie, until she is saved by her more-than-a-friend Momo.

On the one hand, the series has plot lines focused on mindscapes, reminding me of scenes in The Owl House, Steven Universe, and Inside Job where characters travel inside the minds of other characters, either on purpose or by accident.

In fact, Sakura, another magical girl, helps Yuko out of her nightmare in the fifth and sixth episodes of the show's most recent season, appearing as a mirage of sorts. The audience also learns that Sakura sacrifices herself so that Yuko could live; a noble sacrifice.

This series also features main characters with cool magical transformations. This is coupled with comedy, which is integral to the show.

This is not an off-the-wall comedy like the hilarious three-season slice-of-life yuri comedy, YuruYuri, for which the protagonist complains about her lack of presence, even resulting in her becoming translucent at times. Neither is it like romantic comedies such as the currently airing Kaguya-sama: Love Is War and Love After Domination, or a recently-ended isekei comedy with transgender themes, Life with an Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout.

Instead, there is situational comedy either based around interactions between Yuko, her family and school friends, and family, or with her magical girl friends, Mikan and Momo. As a person who loves to eat sliced oranges as a snack, I have to give props to Mikan, whose family owns a fruit company, for constantly, and somehow, finding fruit. She slices up oranges and lemons and chomps on them when they hang out or brings fruit to eat while she is on the go. Are there any other characters who do this? I can't even think of one.

Even more hilarious is the fact that Mikan's hair color fits directly with her love of citrus, as it has the same color as an orange-dyed orange. It also connects with her bubbly, excitable personality and her orange-themed magical transformation.

The same can be said for Momo whose hair color is pink, a color often associated with "innocence and uncomplicated childhood", who has incredible strength and can quickly transform.

Unlike some other series, Momo has no interest in remaining a magical girl, feeling that having such power is too much responsibility for her. Yuko attempts to take advantage of this and recruit Momo as her "vassal." While Momo turns this down, she remains on friendly terms and there are hints in the season 2 introduction that she may go down that route in the future. All the while Yuko continues to declare "don't think this means you won" after Momo "defeats" Yuko in some way.

This is series is not unique in flipping generally understood values, like magical girls seen as "good" and demons as "bad." In fact, the 2017 supernatural slice-of-life and comedy anime, Gabriel DropOut, has angels act like demons, and demons act like angels. Helluva Boss has the demons act like jerks but be relatable and care about each other, while the angels are utter jerks who only care about themselves.

It is even a bit funny that Yuko's magical girl-esque transformation is called "crisis management". It gives her a somewhat scantily clad uniform akin to the lead in The Great Jahy, but it only slightly improves her abilities. This is different than Jahy, as it only helps her a little bit. Due to this, however, Momo helps train her on how to hone her abilities and improve herself. Instead of magical girls and demons fighting one another, they are both on the same side, working together for common goals.

In the process, the series plays on the common magical girl elements, often associated with female interests like romance, femininity, and child-rearing, with cute appearances of characters resembling idol singers or princesses. When they are in their transformations, Momo, Yuko, and Mikan clearly transform into versions of themselves that seem more mature and prettier, with magical powers. However, Momo and Yuko have items that allow them to use their powers outside of their transformations.

Most powerfully, and apart from any other character in the series, Yuko has the ability to enter other people's minds. She does it often with a wand that sometimes transforms into silly items like a pen, a super-heavy trident, or anything else that does not help her in the slightest. She is also very expressive, with her demon tail telling as much about her emotions as the cat ears of Blake Belladonna in RWBY say about what she is thinking from minute to minute.

Yuko's demon features are often exploited by other characters, who hold her back by her tail, making it hard for her to move, or hold her horns like handles. This is even more painful than someone grabbing onto her tail.

I further found it funny that Yuko's younger sister, Ryoko, is more skilled with technology than her. In fact, she is just as skilled with technology as the underclassman angel Tapris in Gabriel DropOut.

At the same time, her ancestor, Lilith (voiced by Minami Takahashi), can be bought out of her totem into small forms which are like dolls. Hilariously, Momo can easily control her movements, angering Lilith, who is trapped inside the totem. She can only leave to occupy Yuko's body from time to time, which slightly changes Yuko's personality and even her tail in the process. Similar to many characters, she has a weakness for alcohol, which makes it easy to subdue her.

Although there is a goal for magical girls to have romance that leads to marriage, it is unlikely this would happen in The Demon Girl Next Door. No notable male characters appear in the series.  Although Yuko and Momo seem to have some feelings for each other, it is unlikely that Yuko and Momo would marry one another.

In later episodes, they will likely become even closer. After all, in the most recent episode, she became Yuko's vassal (temporarily) and came over the the "dark side", nicknamed "Darkness Peach" by Mikan, to save her from a nightmare. In an unexpected twist, she becomes a dual-class holder whose physical class is light while her spiritual class is light. They both agree to work together to protect the city.

Rather, these characters could be shown ambiguously together and walking off into the sunset akin to the end of Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times. It is even less likely that there would any possible marriage, like that hinted between office worker, Kobayashi, and a dragon girl, Tohru, in the final episode of Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid.

All in all, The Demon Girl Next Door is a must-see, especially for those interested in demons, magical girls, and supernatural comedies.

Pada Desember 1975, George dan Kathleen serta anak-anak mereka pindah ke sebuah rumah di 112 Ocean Avenue, sebuah rumah besar bergaya kolonial Belanda di Amityville, sebuah lingkungan di pinggiran kota di selatan Long Island, New York.

Tigabelas bulan sebelum keluarga Lutz pindah, Ronald DeFeo, Jr., pemilik sebelumnya, telah menembak mati enam anggota keluarganya di rumah itu. Setelah 28 hari keluarga Lutz tinggal dirumah itu, mereka mulai merasakan hal-hal aneh dengan rumah tersebut.

Ia tiba untuk melaksanakan berkat pada sore hari tanggal 18 Desember 1975 disaat George dan Kathy sedang membongkar barang-barang mereka. Ketika ia mengibaskan air suci yang pertama dan mulai untuk berdoa, ia mendengar suara dengan jelas yang mengatakan”Keluar!” - “Get out!”. Disaat meninggalkan rumah tersebut, ia tidak menceritakan kejadian itu kepada George maupun Kathy. Pada 24 Desember 1975, Bapa Mancuso menelepon George Lutz dan menasihatkan agar dia tidak menggunakan ruang dimana ia telah mendengar suara yang aneh tersebut. Ruang ini adalah ruangan yang direncanakan Kathy digunakan sebagai ruang jahit, dan tadinya adalah kamar tidur Marc dan Yohanes Matthew DeFeo. Percakapan telepon terputus secara tiba-tiba, dan kunjungan berikutnya ke rumah tersebut mengakibatkan Bapa Mancuso menderita demam tinggi dan pada lengannya dijumpai tanda yang mirip dengan tanda stigmata.

- Kathy merasakan seolah-olah “sedang dipeluk” dengan penuh kasih oleh suatu kekuatan yang tidak terlihat.

- Kathy menemukan sebuah ruang kecil yang tersembunyi (sekitar empat kaki) di belakang basement. Dindingnya bercat merah dan ruangan itu tidak tampak didalam denah rumah. Ruangan itu kemudian dikenal dengan nama “The Red Room”. Ruangan ini memiliki pengaruh terhadap anjing mereka Harry, yang selalu menolak untuk mendekat dan selalu berjongkok seolah-olah merasakan sesuatu yang negatif.

- Ada udara dingin, bau parfum dan kotoran didalam rumah, dimana tidak terdapat saluran udara atau jalur bagi sumber tersebut.

- Putri mereka yang berumur lima tahun, Missy, mengisahkan teman imajinasinya yang bernama “Jodie” yang memiliki mata yang sangat merah.

- George selalu dibangunkan oleh bunyi bantingan pintu depan. Ia akan segera ke lantai bawah dan menemukan anjing mereka tertidur dengan suara keras didepan pintu. Tidak ada orang lain yang mendengar suara itu kecuali dia.

- George mendengar apa yang diuraikan sebagai “Marching band Jerman” atau suara seperti radio yang tidak di setel dengan frekuensi yang tepat. Namun ketika ia ke menuju lantai bawah, suara gaduh akan berhenti.

- George disadari bahwa ia memiliki kemiripan kuat dengan Ronald DeFeo, Jr., dan mulai bermabukan di “The Witches Brew” bar dimana DeFeo adalah salah seorang pelanggannya.

- Ketika mengecek tempat penyimpanan kapal pada suatu malam, George melihat sepasang mata merah yang sedang memperhatikan dia dari jendela kamar tidur Missy. Ketika ia pergi keatas untuk melihatnya, ia tidak menemukan apa-apa. Kemudian disimpulkan bahwa itu adalah “Jodie”.

- Ketika ditempat tidur, Kathy mendapatkan bekas merah didadanya disebabkan oleh suatu kekuatan tak terlihat, dan ia diangkat sekitar dua kaki dari tempat tidurnya.

- Kunci, jendela, dan pintu rumah dirusakkan oleh suatu kekuatan yang tak terlihat.

- Terdapat belahan kuku binatang yang besar di salju yang kemudian dihubungkan dengan seekor babi besar pada 1 Januari 1976.

- Dari dinding aula dan lubang kunci dari pintu kamar bermain yang ada di loteng keluar lumpur yang berwarna hijau.

- Sebuah salib 12 inchi yang digantung Kathy di kamar kecil ditemukan terpasang terbalik dan menyemburkan bau.

- George tersandung oleh sebuah keramik singa Tiongkok yang memiliki tinggi sekitar empat kaki, yang kemudian meninggalkan bekas gigitan pada salah satu mata kakinya.

- George melihat Kathy berubah menjadi seorang wanita tua yang berumur sekitar 90-an, “dengan rambut acak-acakan, muka dengan kerutan dan berbentuk buruk, dan air liur yang menetes dari mulutnya yang ompong”.

Setelah memutuskan bahwa ada yang tidak beres dengan rumah mereka, yang tidak dapat dijelaskan secara rasional, George dan Kathy Lutz melaksanakan suatu pemberkatan dengan cara mereka sendiri pada 8 Januari 1976. George memegang sebuah salib yang terbuat dari perak selagi kedua-duanya membacakan Doa Para Raja, dan dari ruang tamu mereka, menurut dugaan banyak oang terdengar suara paduan suara yang meminta agar mereka berhenti: “Will you stop!”.

Di pertengahan Januari 1976, dan setelah usaha pemberkatan yang dilakukan oleh George dan Kathy, mereka mengalami kejadian yang kemudian menjadi malam terakhir mereka berada di rumah itu. Keluarga Lutz menilai bahwa segala kejadian yang terjadi sebagai sesuatu yang sangat menakutkan, “too frightening”.

Setelah berkonsultasi dengan Bapa Mancuso, mereka memutuskan untuk mengambil beberapa barang kepunyaan mereka dan memutuskan untuk tinggal di rumah ibu Kathy di dekat Deer Park, New York. Pada 14 Januari 1976, George dan Kathy Lutz bersama ketiga anaknya dan anjing mereka Harry, meninggalkan rumah dan meninggalkan banyak barang dibelakang rumah tersebut. This was the scene that made me watch this show, so...

...let's talk about it for a second.

There are three ways you could read this questions. It could be, "are you living with your mother?" or "are you rich enough to have a maid?" or "do you have a girlfriend?" Yohan has seen Gaon's file. He knows Gaon is an orphan who lives in a tiny apartment. There's no mother. There's no maid. When he asks this question, he's fishing for details about Gaon's romantic relationship.

He could have straightened that collar without dragging his hand across Gaon's collar bone like that.👀👀👀👀 This is a habit that Yohan adopts, pretty quickly. And I honestly don't blame him. This moment set the tone for their relationship. Gaon didn't react negatively, so Yohan (emotionally-stunted, touch-starved Yohan) decided that he could touch Gaon whenever he wanted, however he wanted.

In context, Gaon was worried that he'd be caught for planting those bugs so I understand his shakiness. But!!!! He just stands there and let's Yohan rub him like that. Maybe... MAYBE, you could say he was stunned and that in the future, he learned to slap Yohan's hand away when it got weird. But for godsake, this is a stranger at the office. You guys are all alone. At night. He's just shoved you against a shelf and he's touching up on you. Stranger Danger, Gaon. Absolutely no self preservation!

Did you guys notice that tiny thrust of Gaon's hips when Yohan shoved him into the shelf? Please tell me I'm not the only one. YOU GUYS NEED TO TELL ME I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE!!!

I saw this scene on Tiktok and that's how I went to look for the show. I didn't know what it was and my first thought was, "Woah, Jisung and Jinyoung are in a bl?"

Everything about this scene was just so homoerotic to me. I just want to say a big thank you to every branch in universe that veered off from the sacred timeline in order to put this scene before me on Tiktok.

chuuni gathering #2 ovo also i tried to be hyper descriptive here cause a) just watched howl’s moving castle, absolute art and b) felt like this should be a bit more dungeon-like than my other scenarios -mod lily

The door was, essentially, blasted open. “Found ya!... Huh?”

Yuta has described it right. It was in an eternal state of deadness, with no sound or light. Of course, that was solely because no one was in the room at the moment; after all, Yoshiko herself had rushed here at the sound of the dismissal bell to reach this room, her goal set and the enemy at hand.

Hmm, enemy wasn’t the right word. More like...potential ally? Who knew? She was searching for a certain vampire.

The legendary Yumenosaki Light Music Club. The room is dimly lit, and brimming with potential dangers and dark energy. Psh, nothing Yohane the fallen angel can’t handle. The door closed for extra dramatic effect (hey, she kept her room in the darkness), the angel sniper weaved her way into the darkness, keeping on herself an open flashlight and a toy gun loaded with foam bullets, because back at base, Sora had said that “if there’s a monster, Yohane can fire these and not get in trouble”.

The club room was unnaturally spacious, as if this was an RPG and she was in a dungeon. If this attempt at finding this vampire turned fruitless, then-

A creak in the back of the room. Yohane spun around and accidentally fired a piece of foam, red flags and white noise playing in her ears. A sound at the back meant nothing was hit but the wall. She eased her way to the back, shining the light of her flashlight on a box...or a coffin? in the corner. The adrenaline was kicking in, but Yohane calmed herself and laughed at her victory. “Okay, now I’ve found you. Welcome to Hell Zone-“

“Relying on the light of the sacred world to aid you? How futile, Miss Fallen Angel.”

She froze for a few seconds. A low voice echoed throughout the room and Yohane could feel a cold hand placed on her shoulder. In an almost instinctive move, she turned to her back and fired, the sound of ricochet telling her that she had hit her target, the boss of the Light Music Club dungeon. A perfect counterattack, made by the angel sniper herself. Critical hit!

...That wasn’t ricochet. The piece of foam had been stopped altogether. As she finally thought to shine the flashlight on her target, they were gone. And then the lights came on.

A man, a third-year, a few inches towering over her, with messy black hair and red eyes. Truly a vampire, unless they were some cosplayer. “Who are you-“

“Miss Fallen Angel, Yoshiko Tsushima. Welcome to my domain.”

She almost retorted with a “Yohane!” but didn’t feel like it. “You are...Rei Sakuma?” she began. “That is correct,” the voice of her senior replied to her. “I know what you’re here for. It was nice of Yuta to refer you to me.” Before she could say “how did you know that”, the vampire slid over to her and pulled her by the arm in one swift motion, as if by some supernatural prowess he had. “If you wish, I shall teach you the ways of black magic.”

...Yohane couldn’t respond yes. Something was too wrong. There was some kind of catch to this. There’s no way- “On the condition you serve under me in the realm of the underworld.” Yohane broke of Rei’s grip and smirked. “I’m not your familiar, senpai. How do you know I won’t learn quickly enough to turn the tables?”

“It was a joke, but you’re a feisty one. Like the twins.” The phrase sounded like something Mari would say, and the twins were by far some of the more level-headed people she knew, but surprisingly, Yoshiko didn’t take any offense to that. “I’m not trying to be an enemy to you, Miss Fallen Angel,” he continued. “And besides, rivals and friends? Essentially the same thing as idols, where we share the same stage.” “Fufu, you can try, Rei Sakuma. The vampire.” Yoshiko fired back, chuckling.

“It’s a deal. Welcome to Hell Zone.”

Isle of Dogs Art Show!

Opening for one weekend only on November 9th, 2018 at Spoke Art Gallery’s pop-up location in New York City, 213 Bowery, is the dynamic group exhibition of over 85 artists dedicated to Wes Anderson’s latest film, the Isle of Dogs Art Show.

Isle of Dogs is a stop motion animated film set in a Japanese dystopian future. The story follows a boy’s journey to find his dog after the species is banished to an island following the outbreak of a canine flu. Inspired by the adventurous tale that Anderson brought forth, a select group of artists have created character portraits and highly detailed environments and scenes inspired by Isle of Dogs. Featuring a diverse array of painting, sculpture and limited edition prints, each artist offers their own unique perspective and interpretation of the Wes Anderson film. Sets and puppets from the film will be on display. This whimsical and canine filled pop-up exhibition is an absolute must see.

The exhibition will be on view November 9th through the 11th.
