Do you have an advice on how to describe characters without sounding weird? I always feel like it’s out of place for a character to be describing themselves or to cut the scene short to describe what each character looks like. But I do want the reader to know what they look like.

god yeah that's always a challenge isn't it. i can get away with just Not describing if i really want to because i have illustrations, but that's not helpful to you (and my editor bullies me if i do this so i try not to, lol)

it's all very contextual of course. obviously yes you shouldn't have a character stop and describe themself in a mirror, and a character would not think about their own hair being black because of course it is, they know it is. stopping everything dead to give an accounting of a person's appearance or outfit is how you get a my immortal.

you can find excuses, though. if the character is vain or self-conscious, they may compare themself to the others around them. they may mention their new clothes and how nice they look with the color of their hair, or their eyes. when describing other characters, one or two features when they first show up is usually enough, or as inserts with their actions. "he furrowed his caterpillar brows" "she picked at her long nails" etc.

when choosing what to describe, consider what sort of picture those features actually imply about the person. a man with caterpillar brows could be read as older, or of a certain ethnicity if paired with other features, or the use of "caterpillar" could say something about the way the observer thinks of him. it's not as flattering as a simple "thick" or "strong" brow might be. what would the POV character choose?

i think also if you're working exclusively in prose and don't have a visual component, part of you is going to need to accept the reader will not have the exact same vision of your guy that you do. do not bother trying to describe the exact design of a person's clothes, their precise hair style, or any of that. get their most basic, iconic features on the page, and just let whatever happens happen. they are going to get it wrong and they'll tell you and it'll make you insane but such is life. my mental image of estraven from left hand of darkness is Just Kenta and i could not tell you why.

so uh. dunno. it's tough. maybe read some Classics of Literature and see how they do/don't do it. it's always good to read more when trying to figure out how to write.

Hey! Silly question because i don't really know how it works but amazon is funky with this sort of thing. Does your payhip let you buy the book for others? Can I buy it and gift it to someone else? Seeing people talk about libraries is making me want to throw out a couple copies but payhip is incredibly unhelpful in figuring it out 🙈

Yep! I actually did a post about this recently but Tumblr seems to have eaten it.

When you go to the checkout, there is the option to give copies of my books as gifts.

ID: Two images side by side. They show a screenshot from Payhip's checkout page set against a rainbow glitter background. In the first image, the form prompts the viewer to fill in their own details. On the second image, the "give as a gift" box is checked, which shows additional options, such as entering the recipient's email and the ability to add a personalized message.

When you click on “give as gift” it opens up more boxes, and you insert the recipients email, and a little gift message too.

They can then download the files to their e-reader or audio listening device of choice. It autoloads into Apple Books for me, and als Kindle, but depending on the age of the device they may need to follow the Payhip to Kindle guide to get it to work.

What The Radiant Orders Would See as their Fandom Job on the Internet

Orders on the internet requested by @justheretoreadnotwrite :) 

Justheretoreadnotwrite pointed me to this very fun 17th Shard thread, and asked if I could do a riff on the Radiant Orders being on the internet. Since I wanted to try avoiding the jokes already there, I thought I would focus in on how they'd act in fandom on the internet. Specifically, what would each Order think is their Duty in Fandom?

1. Edgedancers: Finding & Leaving Comments for Zero-Kudo Fics

The Edgedancers make it their mission to listen to those who are forgotten--in this case, fics with no kudos, no comments, or no notes. The Edgedancers come to read them, like them, and comment on them!

2.  Lightweavers: Posting Fanart & Engaging in Character RP chats

You want your favorite character or OC to have art drawn of them? Just ask your nearest Lightweaver! Or, if you just wish you could roleplay with your favorite character, the Lightweavers can do that too. They are, like, VERY good at pretending to be other characters.

3. Bondsmiths: Writing Alt-Text

The Bondsmiths want to make sure that fandom is accessible to all, so they're out there writing descriptions and alt-text for any fanart or tweets or other images that screenreaders might struggle over. Barriers of communication are no match for our friendly Bondsmiths.

4. Truthwatchers: Writing Call-Out Posts

If someone is out there stealing art and posting it on their own blog/twitter/pinterest page as if it's their own....well, they better hope a Truthwatcher doesn't find them. Those Truthwatchers will be telling the original artist, and they may just write a call-out post if they have to.

5.Elsecallers: Writing, just, Really Excellent Analyses and Guides

The Elsecallers are the scholars of fandom. They are writing really in-depth analyses of both the original source and of your fanfic, and they're here posting guides about how to accurately portray, like, dyeing practices of x-century. 

6. Willshapers: Writing Character x Reader Fics and Creating OCs

The Willshapers are out there putting themselves into fandom worlds--and helping you do the same. They're great at creating their own OCs and/or self-inserts, and they're the ones writing all of the Character x Reader fics as well.

7. Stonewards: Writing the Majority of the Actual Fanfic

In terms of sheer output--like keeping the fandom running by doing the hard work of actually writing fics--the Stonewards are leading the way. If there's such a thing as the "front lines" of fandom, I think it's people filling A03 and creating longform content.

8. Windrunners: Forum/Discord Moderation

The Windrunners want to make sure that fandom spaces are protected & safe for their members, so they're likely to take on the role of administrators or moderators--kinda like, you know, being the king's guard but here the the "king" is 19 people who all want to talk about the same character.

9. Dustbringers: Being the Most Popular Person in the Fandom

The Dustbringers are the "great power / great responsibility" order. They know they could level that city or dissolve that person into atoms or whatever, but they have more restraint that that. Probably. In the same way, Dustrbingers are The Person in their fandom. If they choose to retweet or reblog or boost your fic/art/analysis, you are made, my friend. On the other hand, if they decide you're an enemy...

10. Skybreakers: Following the Rules. The Internet Rules. 

Listen, the Skybreakers don't judge rules, they follow rules. So if a fandom on the internet has rules, the Skybreakers really have no choice to follow them. You know, like Rule 34 for example.

So yes, the Skybreakers are out there making sure there is porn of your favorite character. You're welcome.

Living with Nanami - Part 2

feel free to read part 1 here 🛋️ I poured my heart into the first one and what do you know, I did the same thing here. this is incredibly long so consider youreself warned.

Not a lot of pillows on the couch or bed. It's just not practical. Honestly, he doesn't really care too much about this so he lets you have free reign. As long as it's comfortable enough to relax on, he's happy.

If you're like most people, your plants are barely surviving. They only get water when you remember. You don't think much about re-potting them, fluffing the soil, or moving them toward the sun from time to time; so, that unintentionally becomes Nanami's part time job. He can'r just leave them to die! Because then you'll complain, then buy another plant only for it to wilt within a matter of days.

The routine he develops is actually quite nice. He takes care of your plants every Saturday morning while you're still in bed - wiping their leaves of dust, checking how damp the soil is, looking for pests. When you comment on how well they're growing he simply says "Yes, they are," feeling a bit of pride swell in his chest.

Self-insert: One night, you two paint some terracotta pots together. Nanami isn't really sure what he's doing. He's not very artsy or creative; it comes so naturally to you and he's a bit envious because you make it look easy. The corner of his mouth was tight as he dragged the paint brush across the fragile pot in his hand. When he pulled back, he eyed it with obvious disappointment. {** pls read the footnote to hear the inspo behind this}

You sensed your husband's uneasiness like an incoming storm. "Ken, let me see." your voice was soft as you leaned over and he turned his handiwork toward you. Your eyes tried to make sense out of the shapes and lines.

"It's supposed to be an animal."

"... oh..."

"Is it really that bad?"

Heat filled your face "What?! No! It's," you studied the piece "abstract."

A soft grumble left him then but he perked up when you grabbed his artwork from him then started to add to it. After a moment, you flashed him the newly improved piece which was another little creature by the animal along with your shared initials. A remnant of a smile flashed across his face.

If you read part 1, do you remember that special framed object I mentioned? It's actually a memento from one of your earlier dates. You're cleaning your purse out one day when Kento walks over and notices an old receipt. He's a bit surprised when you don't throw it out. A smile forms when he hears you say "It means a lot to me." Because it's personal, it's in the bedroom away from prying eyes. Whenever he looks at it, he remembers that moment and it makes him feel warm, safe... loved.

Please don't hang those pictures and things on your own. He doesn't want you to accidentally fall or hurt yourself, so he prefers to do it. Maybe it's just me but I get the feeling these would be perfectly hung. Nice and straight, not slightly crooked.

Always interested to see how you'll redecorate the place when you get "bored". He'll study your Pinterest board and even search for things in his free time -- although he may not tell you. When I say 'search', I mean he's a collaborator on your board so he's adding notes and inspiration when he has the time but he's also searching for what you have so you can actually put it into your home. Imagine coming home one day to a package and he's not there yet. You: Hey, did you order this? *image* Kento: I did. I was hoping to get home first so I could set it up as a surprise. You: Aww! What is it? Kento: Don't open it. Just wait until I get there. You: Okay .... but what is it? Kento: Don't. Open. It. You: But.. Kento: 🫥 You: 🧍‍♀️... please? Kento: No. You: .... just a peek? Kento: (y/n), no. ~His sixth sense kicked in when you didn't respond right away.~ Kento: You did it anyway, didn't you? You: Sorry, I couldn't help it but aaahhhh I LOVE IT! TYSM! 🥰 Kento: You can be so impatient. You're welcome ❤️ Just don't set it up without me, ok? I don't want you to hurt yourself. You: Okay 😊 thank you, dear darling husband💐 Kento: You're welcome, sweetheart ❤️ I love you. You: I love you too, prob more Kento: Oh, don't start. You: 🤭

Side note: he really loves when you call him sweet little nicknames or things like 'darling'. No one's ever seen him in that light so you calling him something so soft and endearing makes his heart sing.

In regard to texting and all things tech, he's a fast learner but he doesn't dedicate himself to keeping up with these kind of things. So when you mention a new game system or getting a DVD player or projector {I saw a tiktok months ago where this lady's living room setup was a projector instead of a TV and now I want one} he's a bit indifferent. He doesn't really care as long as it's not costly and smthn you'll only use sparingly, go for it. Don't be surprised when he starts using it though, after you teach him ofc lol. Imagine coming home early after runngin errands and he's playing your switch 😂 I can also see him using emojis without knowing their intent {example: the sweat emoji}. If you get a DVD player or have anything similar, he actually loves it. He's a milennial {hope I got that right} so the whole thing is nostalgic for him. It makes him feel young again.

He'd have a few special movies that are close to his heart and remind him of better days before he met you. I'd bet everything I own that he has a DVD of the movie(s), he and Yu would watch. He doesn't watch it at first because he already tears up just holding it in his hand so it sits on the shelf for a while. When you inquire about it, he briefly talks about it. He's already told you about Yu and his entire past so you're not surprised. He loves how you don't push him to talk any further though, you're a quiet comfort and he couldn't ask for anything more. One day, he does watch the movie though, I'd imagine it's when he's by himself. 9 times out of 10 it's some horrible comedy. Yu loved it and Nanami only suffered through it for his friend's sake. As the movie plays on, he chuckles at some horrible joke then gets teary eyed when he hears the echoes of Yu's laughter in his mind. "Y'know he'd be proud of you, right?" he hears your words playback in his head then wipes his tears.

He's a laundry wizard. I remember seeing a post a long time ago that said smthn like 'we know he's great at laundry because how does he get all the blood off his clothes'. Can't find it but shoutout to the OP. This would honestly come in clutch for whatever period incidents you have {bc it happens}. I love this though bc he's completely unfazed when it first happens. He sees you rushing to the bathroom and watches you try to get it out then just says he can take care of it. Imagine just watching him to learn 😭he gets a little flustered but tries to maintain his seriousness.

"Wait," you move closer to him until you're peering over his shoulder. Your scent envelops him and he hates how quickly the blood rushes to his cheeks.

"Hm?" he stops working at the stain then looks back at you.

"How much of that stuff did you use?"

"Just a capful."

"Oh, okay." you remain close to him "Continue."

He didn't speak. He couldn't so he just did as told, rubbing out the stain with you hovering over his shoulder.

Actually gets a bit upset when he sees you taking the trash out for the first time. He doesn't yell but he simply stands by you and takes the bag out of your hands with a "I've got it". Tradition gets the best of him at times. His reasoning is that he "doesn't want you to get your hands dirty".

Everything has a designated spot. He'd prefer if you don't move things but if you must, at least tell him first. This actually made me think of the "Honey, where's my super suit?!" scene from The Incredibles lol.

The welcome mat at the front door is what solidified it for him. Seeing it everyday when he unlocks the door just makes him feel so warm. When his eyes land on you popping your head out of the kitchen to greet him with a brief "hey!" they tear up just a bit. He sheds his coat and shoes then walks into the kitchen to wrap his arms around you and bury his head in the crook of your neck. You chuckle out of surprise then wrap your arms around him "Are you ok?" Your fingers find their way to his undercut to give him that comforting caress. He blesses you with one of those low hums of contentment.

Domesticity really brings out the softer side of him. Don't get me wrong, it was always there but the fact that you two now have a place to call your own. It's not an apartment or a small shared space but a house that you've turned into a home. He can paint the walls with you, build a garden, maybe a nursery... he can live here. He can be happy... he can be happy with you.

You don't know he's thinking all of this though. All you know is that one morning, you're glancing out the window and see your husband painting the mailbox. The fabric of your houserobe feels warm on your skin as you step outside. "What are you do-" your eyes land on the white paint of his unfinished work which reads "Nan" in white paint. "I figured we'd be here for a while." he glances at you with rosy cheeks, still holding the paintbrush in his hand. "Where's mine?" He chuckles and hands you his paintbrush then places a kiss on the top of your head. For once, and more to come, he let himself smile fully as he watches you add "a" to your shared last name. "Y'know darling, you shouldn't be out here dressed like that. People may want you for themselves." "I guess you'll have to let them know I'm your wife then." you glance back at him with a smirk then face forward to finish the last detail of your work. When you turn around to hand him the paintbrush, he barely grips it before pulling you in for a brief kiss. The morning feels cool on his skin. The birds are chirping... are they bluejays? He'd find out tomorrow when he wakes up by your side and hears them again.

Author's Note: I think we've established I'm sick for this man made up of lines and colors.

** In season 1, episode 3 of Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan, there's a scene where Uramichi is watching TV and a commercial pops up for the viewer to take a psychological test by drawing simple pictures. One of the pictures is an animal and he draws a dog. He then has to send the picture to other people to see if they can accurately guess what it is and it's meant to show if he/the viewer has personality issues. You should be able to watch the full clip here, just go to 21:00! Lmk if the link works or not - this is honestly such a favorite of mine and I haven't even finished it.

p.s.: I found out about the show when I used to work at the mall, LUSH for pple who are curious, and one of the girls/a customer had this really cool tattoo of this funky looking bird. Idk what it was so ofc I had to ask - then she tells me that her and her friend, who was by her side, have matching ones and that it's from Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan! I made sure to watch the show when I had time and even though I haven't finished it, I plan on it. He's so relatable, too relatable lmbo, and I can see some similarites between Kento and he; so now I have to finish it, right?

Headcanons! Some Spoilers?

My first post got a lot more attention than I thought it would, so I'm just gonna drop some headcanons. I'll do a few different characters from different shows, anime/mangas, etc. If you don't know much about the characters, there will be some info on them that some people may not know already (Ex; character death, big events, whatever).

Some HCs are on the sad side while others are just silly, nonserious ones.

Also, if you disagree with any of these HCs, that's totally fine! Please just don't be negative about it or anything. And if you want to correct me on anything, go right ahead.

First up, I'm gonna do Jason Todd from the Batman Comics/shows. I love Jason so much, nothing could ever make me hate him <3

I feel like he'd believe in "hair holding memories" thing, so after his death and revival, he'd shave his head countless times to try and forget all the bad memories. Poor boy :(

For a happier HC, I think he'd be an absolute boss at Just Dance or automatically become the God of a video game that any of his younger 'siblings' need help with beating.

I also have a slight feeling he'd cheat during a silly 'family game night' thing and be hiding uno cards in his jacket or something LOL. Bro's the type to make one move during a game of chess before giving up and flipping the board.

Onto Gojo Satoru from Jujutsu Kaisen :D

I used to be a huge Gojo hater for no reason lol, but now he's kinda one of my favorites.

Since it's canon that he has a sweet tooth, I have a feeling he stress eats/bored eats (eats a bunch when stressed out or bored) and gets tummy aches pretty often from that.

I feel like he'd tear up a dance floor at a stupid little highschool event or something, but not like normal dancing. Bro probably dances like a Hotel Transylvania character LMFAO.

Fun fact: he was my first main besides the traveler on Genshin Impact.

I HC that the poor man has a rough time sleeping (specifically after the Snezhnaya events and the death of his father). Whenever Kaeya sneaks into the Dawn Winery, he probably holds his big brother until he can sleep peacefully <3

Another silly HC I got is that Diluc used to be the sweetest kid in Mondstadt, but was unintentionally a little chaos magnet. Definitely a leash child so Crepus wouldn't have a heart attack when wondering where his son ran off to for the 60th time that day.

Bonus HC: Babysitter Varka. Must I say any more? Bro's probably still a big father figure in Diluc's life and sends weekly letters checking up on him.

So twitter has been assaulting my eyes with an "AI Generated Stop Motion Lord of the Rings video" for the past two days and, like, it's stirred up some FEELINGS and I need to process them by way of a fucking tumblr post.

'Cause, like, I've made stop motion movies.

Were they good stop motion movies? No, not particularly. They were probably as good as you could reasonably expect of something a high schooler made for an assignment, or a college student made in their spare time during the summer, with a budget of "whatever I was able to spare over a period of several months." They're a far cry from the works that inspired me - not equal to the works of Henry Selick or Ray Harryhausen, that's for sure.

I say this not for my usual reasons of knee-jerk self deprecation, but to emphasize that I understand how people feel when their art isn't as good as the art that inspired them, when it fails to match that lofty image you have in your head. I get it, man, I get it, it hurts, and it's hard to overcome that "I'll never be good as [insert artists who inspired you and probably have at least a 20 year headstart on getting good at the art form you've chosen]" pain.

But, like, man, the act of actually creating art is so satisfying. I know that we're on the "creating art is pain, shut your whore mouth toad I will continue scrolling tumblr instead of writing" website, but for all the agony involved in creation, it is fun, I swear it's so goddamn fun and enriching!

Putting together those sets, designing and building those puppets, sweating in a makeshift studio in my dad's garage from painstakingly moving those little puppets just a tiny bit to take a photo over and over again... it was work, yes, but god it was so good. There's this tactile sensation of creation you get from it, because you physically assemble everything that goes in front of the camera, and you physically move it and take the shots, and when the movie comes together you see how each and every bit of your labor gave LIFE to what was lifeless.

And it holds true for all other forms of art. The satisfaction I get from writing it different from the satisfaction I get from drawing, which is different than the satisfaction I get from acting, and so on and so on - but they all share that element that they are MINE, they are something I brought into the world and no one else did, and without me they would not be here. They are reflections, extensions, and creations of ME, and god there's no feeling better than looking at something you've labored hours to make and thinking, "I did this. This only exists because of me."

You rob yourself of that feeling if you let some algorithm do it for you. And maybe some people are ok with that tradeoff, but I can't help but view it as tremendously sad. Those movies I made may not be perfect, my books may be mediocre, my singing off key, my drawings limited, but goddammit, they're mine, and everyone deserves to feel the pride of making something that's theirs and theirs alone.

Callum is going to learn Star Magic in Season 6

(or try to, anyway)

I have a theory on the order Callum will learn the arcanums—if he gets any more.

In the very first intro to the show, this is the order Aaravos mentions the arcanum in:

Sun, Moon. Stars, Earth. Sky, Ocean.

Callum connected to the Sky arcanum first, and then the Ocean. User raayllum compared him to Icarus, who flew too close to the sun and then fell into the depths of the ocean.

Adding onto that, I think Callum would get Stars next to symbolize another rise to great heights and then Earth as another crash. (I think that would be it but if they’re really going all the way then yes, next would be sun and then moon.)

To support the idea that Callum will learn star magic next, in the teaser for season 6, we see him blindfolded and freefalling, and the celestial elves in the starscraper are also blindfolded. It’s mentioned that star magic is the hardest to grasp and that celestial elves dedicate their lives to understanding the stars. So if anyone can teach him star magic, well…that isn’t an ancient manipulative startouch elf, it’s probably them.

Why would he seek to learn star magic, why now?

Most Obviously: Ambition as a Mage:

Callum has said he’s read up as much as he could on all magic and whenever he meets a mage he asks for their help learning that arcanum. IE: Akiyu.

The celestial elves may not be star mages (or maybe they are, who knows) but he will more likely than not use the opportunity to seek out an understanding of star magic while he’s there.

“It's protected by an ancient sect of Skywing Elves called the Celestial elves at the Starscraper, this unbelievably high tower, far, far north beyond the Frozen Sea.” - 5x05

2. Freeing Rayla’s Parents

“The spell is complex and it uses star magic so, to do it, I need these. Quasar Diamonds.” - 5x04

Since practicing star magic is key to freeing Rayla’s parents from the coin and that spell also requires the presence of 3 star magic gems, the quasar diamonds, doing the spell may require some understanding of star magic as well. The alternative may be dark magic and that would leave him open to possession by Aaravos and possibly harming those around him including Rayla.

That’s the third possible reason he would seek to learn star magic :

3. Protection Against Aaravos

if Aaravos is connecting to Callum’s dreams and posessing him via star magic, maybe in learning it he can figure out how to counteract it or use the bond with Aaravos to his advantage instead of only being the victim of it.

4. Sky and Stars close overlap

Sky and Stars share more traits in common than any other arcanum, and it simply makes sense that skywing elves and a primal mage who first connected to the sky would have the greatest understanding of it. It makes sense to connect with it more than others.

Vision is also used to describe Sky magic, and truth used to describe Sun magic.

5. Proving worthy of using the Quasar Diamonds and/or the Novablade

It seems hella unlikely these guys are just gonna want to give up their most prized and fiercely guarded possessions to some outsiders just because they asked nicely. They’re going to have to prove their magical capabilities and respect for their understanding of star magic, maybe even do trust falls or other rites, like that which we see on screen in the trailer.

In conclusion, I believe it will be key for Callum to try to learn more about star magic, by following the same rites the celestial elves do - getting as close to the stars as possible in the starscraper, becoming as secluded and distant from the rest of xadia as they possibly can (like the startouch elves do) cutting themselves off from one or more of their senses and presumably learning how to trust fate and understand it (freefall).

And if it doesn’t work out to learn star magic and Callum has to, once again, rely on dark magic when un-coining Rayla’s parents, well, things would not end well, ie: he would “play right into [Aaravos’s] hands”, possibly paralleling 5x08 but even worse, like Hanna Hoffer warned about 5x08 having “kiddie gloves on.”

So, I guess we’ll see :) (my bets are that it doesn’t work and everything goes to hell)

So this is one of those things where the longer you leave it to rot, the more it's going to fester until it becomes a major problem. The last thing you want is to become resentful. Ya know? And the reason that shit happens is because it hurts.

Going into a communication like this there's a couple things you're going to have to keep in mind.

1. Set expectations for reactions.

Set the tone. You don't want them to make fun of you or call you gross or anything, obviously, but you have to communicate what is/isn't expected. Set the discussion up for compassion and make it clear that being teased or ridiculed would make you uncomfortable.

2. State how the thing influences you.

This is the devil. Absolutely the fucking devil, but you have to express what the action in question is doing to you. Yes it hurts you, but "hurt" is abstract and makes it hard for the other person to understand exactly how their actions are influencing you. Does it lower your self esteem? Is what they're doing influencing your thought patterns or making obsessive thoughts worse? Giving you body image issues? If you specify the cause and effect rather than just stating the feeling, communication will be clearer.

3. State a reasonable outcome for resolution

You know the thing and how it hurts you, and now you have to give a suggestion for how you want to fix it. It keeps your S/O (or whoever else) jumping to conclusions on what you want and helps to assuage any rejection sensitive dysphoria or guilt they may have.

So your ending communication will look something like:

"Hey babe, can we talk about something seriously for a second? I want you to hear me out about something that's been making me feel uncomfortable and I'd like if you wouldn't make fun of me for it, but I have that [insert here] kink you've been making fun of. You don't have to like it yourself or do it with me, but I'd appreciate it if you could stop making fun of it around me because it's making me feel gross about kinks I can't control."

The not fun bit of this is that if they react badly, if they make fun of you and double down, you have to think about if you want to be with someone who would make fun of other people like that in the first place and who would double down instead of reacting with compassion. It doesn't have to be a deal breaker, but don't tolerate making yourself more and more palatable just to keep what you think is a good relationship. That's the high speed train to waking up one day and realizing you're miserable trying to be someone else.

Now it's time to explain the physics of this hhh

Aurum doesn't live inside the UTMV, but rather, exists as a creator for it, and lives in the fandom itself. That "fandom" location functions as a realm that allows for creativity from beings living in our world to brew and develop further to then take form in the UTMV itself, and is also where Creators can interact with eachother, no matter the distance.

Aurum cannot interact directly with the UTMV, but, due to being a Creator, is able to craft things and characters that live within it.

To do this, she requires a quill that it takes with itself wherever it goes. It functions as an outlet for her creative abilities.

I've also been thinking of the possibility of its soul being that quill, due to how tightly Aurum is connected to her creativity, but it might take me a bit to figure out the specifics for that.

In addition to creativity, Aurum is also able to spectate the works of other Creators, and of course, interact with said fellow Creators, but it can take her a bit to get out of it's shell.

Aurum tends to add quite an amount of detail to its work. While it has tried various artistic outlets, the one in which she excels the most is drawing, animation and writing, especially the earlier 2, as those are the hobbies it has been practicing since it has memory.

It also happens to be quite the extra-clever being. (extra clever earthbound spirit ghost in the form-)

It struggles with issues from a past fandom she used to mostly create for, and is trying to recover by 'pushing away shame', as it would word it. It also appears to have a particular dislike of what is known as cringe culture.

That scarf it wears? Just as the ref sheet says, it provides safety, but it also helps somewhat at covering up her neck scar that comes from a far older thing that happened. The scar may sometimes bleed when Aurum feels unsafe or as if it has 'slipped up creatively'.

Some bonus trivia:

Aurum's blood is gold! I made it like that because i myself have RH Null blood, which is also known as the....golden blood type.

It's design is inspired by the silver fox because I just recently found out it is one of my kintypes. And also because i have a tendency to represent myself online as a fox.

And the 'draconic' stuff? Dragon kintype, though that is covered by Io.

Speaking of, Aurum is the being that puppeteers Io.

I got the name Aurum from "Au", which is the periodic table of elements's symbol for gold. And y'know.... AUs! Aurum is a Creator! Doesn't that tie together nicely?

Yes, the scarf that it's wearing is a recreation of Ink's scarf.

Aurum first started as an arctic fox but then started getting covered in ink over time from drawing and drawing and drawing a lot, so it's basically identical to an actual silver fox.

Aurum sometimes stands on 2 legs, usually when interacting with other Creators.

A mortal girl's eyes land on Prince Dain Greenbriar. She doesn't even know who he is, but he's affected her.

It isn’t long before I’m risking sneaking out to another revel. Images of him refuse to leave my mind, and it causes my imagination to run wild. No matter what I do, I cannot tame my thoughts. I’m hoping he will be at this revel too and I made sure to wear my best gown, white with deep purple butterflies adorning the bodice and part of the skirt. I have to lift the skirt ever so slightly so as not to dirty the whiteness as I make my way to the revel.

The revel is in full swing by the time I arrive, with many faeries already engaging in debauchery. I avert my gaze as I move further into the revel. I will never understand how they can be so open about sex, partaking in it in public. To me, something like that should be private, kept behind closed doors for no-one to see or hear.

Once I am further into the revel, I begin to search for him. However, I’m not watching where I’m going and bump into a rather drunk hob.

“Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean-” I start to say.

“Filthy mortal! Who do you think you are? You don’t belong here!” His drunken words sting like a slap around the face, and I know what those feel like thanks to my keeper.

“That is no way to speak to a young lady.” I startle at the sound of another voice, and turn around. Standing right behind me is the beautiful faerie I had been looking for, even more beautiful up close. Just my luck that he’d be right there when I’d stupidly bump into someone.

The hob looks shocked and quickly mumbles an apology before bowing and leaving. I’m confused as to why he bowed, but more relieved now that he is gone.

“Than-” the words die on my tongue as I remember that the Folk don’t appreciate them.

He smiles. “No need for thanks. I couldn’t very well leave a lovely young lady such as yourself to get into trouble for something she did not mean to do.”

I can feel a slight blush warming my cheeks. “But still… I appreciate it. You didn’t have to do that for me. I’m indebted to you.”

“Consider your debt paid with the knowledge of your name and a dance.”

“Will you pull me out of the dance afterwards?” I give him a small smile.

“Of course. I am not foolish enough to leave you there to dance forever. Now, will you accept this dance?” He holds his hand out to me, and I place mine in his.

“I will. My name is (insert name), by the way.”

We start to dance to the music a group of fey are playing. I’m not the best of dancers, so I tried my best to keep up.

“It is a name that suits you,” he replies. “May I compliment you on your choice of gown? You look stunning in it.”

My blush deepens. “You really think so?”

“I cannot lie.”

“It’s one of my favourite gowns. Special occasions only, so I thought it fitting for this revel.”

“You thought right. You seemed to be looking for someone earlier. Are they the reason you chose to wear this gown?” he questions. I nod. “I must apologise from pulling you away from your search, then.”

I’m quick to reply, not wanting this to end because he thinks I’m looking for someone else. “No, no, not at all. I really don’t mind!”

We continue to dance until he pulls me away from the music, and I’m grateful as I had begun to tire.

“I’ve been curious about you.”

I look up at him, surprised. “About me? Why?”

He waits a minute before replying. “I know you were watching me at the last revel you attended.”

“Oh… right… I’m sorry, I don’t know what came over me” My voice has grown quiet.

“I do not mind. You’re not the first and you won’t be the last.” He smirks.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean that I get a lot of attention wherever I go. Was it me you were searching for when you arrived at the revel? You didn’t seem to be in a hurry to leave the dance to look for someone else.”

I look away, embarrassed. “Yes. You haven’t left my mind since I first saw you.” To save myself from saying more, I prepare to leave the revel. “It has gotten later than I thought, and I really must head back.”

“(insert name).” I stop at the sound of my name coming from him. “Let me walk you back.”

“There’s really no need-”

“I insist. How do you know you’re going to get back safely without running into danger? A mortal girl alone in the woods is not a good idea.”

I sigh. “Very well.”

We walk in the direction of my keeper’s home, making small talk along the way. When we get close, I turn to him.

“We have to stop here. My keeper doesn’t know I’m not in her home. I, um, snuck out.” My hands fidget.

He raises an eyebrow. “You haven’t been caught?”

I shake my head.

“Interesting. Well, until next time, (insert name).”

My eyes widen. “Next time?”

“As I said before, I’m curious about you.”

“I didn’t think there’d be a next time. Before you go, what’s your name? You know mine, so I believe I should know yours.”

He smirks, and I come to think about how I quite like when he smirks. “Dain. Dain Greenbriar.”

It isn’t until I’ve successfully managed to sneak back inside my keeper’s home that I realise he said ‘Greenbriar’. The drunken hob’s bow suddenly makes sense. I somehow caught feelings for, danced and spoke with a Prince of Elfhame. And not just any Prince. The future High King.
