real verisimilitude in the Terror is the two guys at the heart of it spend actual calender years shouting "shut the fuck up" / "no you shut the fuck up" / "Why don't you come over here and tell me to shut the fuck up" / "Why don't you come over here and I'll give you something to shut the fuck up about--" etc etc at each other across the ice from their respective ships and it culminates in tender candlelight neck-stroking

Stolen Tongues by Felix Blackwell got so much hype and so i was very excited to listen to it. the prologue was gripping and creepy, and the story was so, so promising.

and then they tokenized (and did much worse) to the only indigenous characters. there was so much disrespect, in general. the book ends with an afterword about the author's responsibility as a non-native to portray natives respectfully and i almost died and shot up to the fucking moon with fury. the lack of self-awareness is incredible.

also the story completely fell off and became super boring, but that is hardly what made me so eager to just finish this story and never think about it again. i am so, so frustrated and disappointed.
