One thing I've been noticing on the Couple of Mirrors rewatch is how multiple people reference or ask the question of how Xu Youyi met Zhou Heng. It's one of the questions Xie Yifan asks in their interview, and it stays unanswered. I really like that, because you don't assume that the way they met was anything out of the ordinary, that there might have been anything less than harmonious and happy about their relationship before Zhou Heng started cheating on Xu Youyi. But at the same time, the question is asked and never answered. The natural assumption is that it was a happy moment, and then you find out that it really, really wasn't.

Here's some sketches I did for my goblin couple of mirrors au in modern time.

Yan Wei, being a grim reaper, has no memory of the past. She is a high ranking one, tasked to capture run away spirits, those who have been dead for a long time. Her technique is to surprise them, and dragging them back to the underworld, hence giving her the nickname Assassin. However, it is known, the greater the resentment, the harder to do so. The more common way to do this is by resolving their resentment or accomplishing their dreams. A famous coworker of Yan Wei, Jiang Bin, is nicknamed Detective for figuring out what is holding back the ghosts through investigations.

After having her post recently moved to a different country, she stumbles upon a strangely familiar lady, Xu You Yi, in the raining dark. After inviting her home to escape the rain, as it seemed that she had no place to go, similarly to the drama, Yan Wei attempts to deter her from the dangerous corners of her home. Unfortunately, she's a little too slow this time, but surprisingly, the arrows go straight through the Xu You Yi. Which is also why Xu You Yi could still see Yan Wei with her invisibility hat on.

Turns out she's a vengeful spirit, but after so many years of resentment and anger, she has forgotten her past. (For ghost ability clarity, new ghosts usually cannot interact with the physical world, but with enough time, they may be able to but must learn how to control this ability. Xu You Yi, who has been dead for thousands of years has great control on what affects her and what can't. Only those in the dead realm, grim reapers, goblins, other spirits, can interact with her no matter what.) Yan Wei decided to try to fulfill Xu You Yi's desire (which she has forgotten herself), through the advice of Detective Jiang Bin, by accomplishing generic dreams like having a picnic, sky diving, etc.

In the meanwhile, a demonic fire spirit from their past (Zhou Heng) has recently awoken, and is dead sent after Xu You Yi for some reason.

It’s a cute fluffy that turned later half into a semi dramatic cdrama that dealt nicely with the mental health issues. First half for me was super cute with the light heartedness of it with the dash of extra cheese to it. I must add that the smexy kisses/chemistry brought the extra spice to it as well. Oof wast expecting some of them. It’s drama is also relatively short with sixteen episodes of being thirty minutes a piece which makes it one of those fun quick watches. Love those where you either can’t fine nothing to watch or have way too many and can’t decide which one. I’m always in the later category. Overall this is definitely a nice quick much watch for those romcom fans.
