english translation of zhou shen and xu weizhou's "我爱他"
a note on pronouns under the cut
I wasn't thinking of any gender when I was listening to the song. mandarin has gender-specific written pronouns, 他/她/它, equivalent to he/she/it, but in speech it's all pronounced "tā," so my brain just hasn't applied one. but I try not to bring too much of my personal interpretation into my translations, so even though I'm personally not applying a gender to the song, the subtitles have 他, he/him, so I went with that.
you don't really need to know any of this for the song, but I just wanted to clarify my personal interpretation vs how I translated it.
