World Tourism Day
Take the plunge and visit that place you’ve always wanted to go on World Tourism Day, or look into tourist locations, functions, and events closer to you.
Travel has been said to broaden the mind, exploring the world and seeing the broad vistas and cultures that the people of the world offer. Tourism can describe travel for pleasure both foreign and domestic, and has been happening as long as long as mankind.
World Tourism Day is your opportunity to broad your own world a little, find a location you’ve always wanted to make time to visit, and finally, get around to making time to do it. So find your inner traveler and get out there and experience the places you’ve always wanted to see.
Learn about World Tourism Day
Tourism expects to grow at a rate of three percent per year until 2030, and this is a trend that we can only see growing and growing beyond that. This growth can be attributed to a number of different reasons. This includes growing middle classes around the world and a reduction in the price of transport, particularly air transport.
The improved adoption of labor rights in a lot of countries and the recognition of the right to holidays in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights have both played a role as well. Despite challenges, such as pandemics, natural disasters, and worldwide economics crises, the tourist sector has experienced virtually uninterrupted growth.
World Tourism Day has been designed to pay tribute to this industry, encourage people to travel, and honor those who do such a good job of working in the tourism sector and enabling us to all fulfil our goals of visiting different places around the world.
Every year, there is a different theme for World Tourism Day. For example, in 2019, the theme was Tourism and Jobs – A Better Future For All. This encourages people to focus on job creation within the tourism sector.
The United Nations wanted to promote the creation of new policies to address the existing mismatch between the tourism skills that are being taught and the skills that are actually needed, as well as to incorporate and reflect the continual advances in technology.
The UN also wanted to create better and more jobs, particularly for youth and women. Because of this, we would definitely recommend finding out what the theme is for World Tourism Day. This can give you inspiration for the most appropriate way to celebrate and observe World Tourism Day and to do your bit for the cause.
History of World Tourism Day
Tourism has been a part of the human experience as long as there have been distant places to go and experience. It was originally the province of the wealthy, with travel being difficult and expensive, but it afforded opportunities to learn new languages, experience different cuisines, and generally see what there was to see.
Tourism can be argued to be traced back to the Shulgi period in Ancient China, when Kings took great pains to protect the roads and build waystations for travelers. In the Middle Ages travel became even more important for religious reasons, Buddhism, Islam, and Christianity all had pilgrimage traditions that required travelling great distances in the interest of health and spiritual improvement.
World Tourism Day was established by The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to promote sustainable, responsible, and universally accessible tourism. Tourism benefits both the tourist and the locations that they visit, and is one of the major drivers of economic growth.
To this end they’ve put together the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, to help increase the benefits of tourism while minimizing its impact and protected the people, cultures, and environments of the locations people go to visit and experience.
World Tourism Day is something that has been going for many years now. It was actually the third session of the UNWTO General Assembly whereby it was decided that World Tourism Day would be instituted. This happened in Spain at Torremolinos in September of 1979.
This led to the first World Tourism Day taking place the following year, in 1980. The date was selected so that it would coincide with a vital milestone in global tourism, this being the anniversary of when the UNWTO Statues were adopted on the 27th of September in 1970. It is also an appropriate choice because it marks the beginning of the season in the southern hemisphere and the conclusion of the high season in the northern hemisphere.
How to celebrate World Tourism Day
World Tourism Day is best celebrated by digging into your book of dreams and finding that place in the world you most wish to go. If you’re unable to get yourself there now, plan for the future and take a closer trip to get yourself into the groove of going out, seeing the world, and travelling.
If you live in a tourist destination, you can get yourself involved in how tourism works in your area and see what you can do to help protect your local heritage, cultural sites, and help share the wonders and history of your area with those who come to see it.
You can also use World Tourism Day in order to raise awareness about the industry and the different challenges that are faced. Speak up and use your voice to promote better working conditions for those in the tourism sector. You can also use the date to promote hidden gems around the world, which could do with an influx in tourists in order to boost their economy and get their communities on the map.
Reflect on the amazing places that you have had the honor of visiting already, as well as planning the places that you want to visit in the future!

World Architecture Day
Take a tour of some of your local works of interesting architecture, from skyscrapers to modern homes, and learn about famous architects like Frank Lloyd Wright.
Architecture is something we do not tend to appreciate as much as we should. Look around you next time you walk down the street. Everything is a product of architecture. Think about all of those amazing buildings around the world. It’s only right that we appreciate the work that went into these, right? Read on to discover everything you need to know about this date and how to celebrate it properly.
Learn about World Architecture Day
World Architecture Day has been created in order to pay tribute to this industry. Architects have the ability to change the world that we live in with their amazing work. World Architecture Day is about recognizing their work, as well as the important role that architecture plays.
World Architecture Day is celebrated all around the world today. It may be celebrated on different dates and in different ways, but it is great to see that it is an art and industry that is being appreciated all around the world. From Argentina and Venezuela to Brazil and Bolivia; countries all around the world pay honor to the work of architects.
There are many different ways that architecture impacts society and the world around us. At the very roots, architecture exists so that a physical environment can be created for people to live in. However, architecture is a lot more than this environment that has been built. Architecture is a part of our culture. It represents not only how we see the world, but also how we see ourselves.
While the concept of building a shelter is pretty simple and straightforward, the style of a building was shaped by the value it will bring to society, the materials that can be used, and the climate within the specific location. However, as there have been advances in technology and the world has become more connected, styles have evolved. Despite this, even in contemporary construction, there is still significance when it comes to cultural nuances being honored.
Not only does architecture have an impact on society at a high level, but it also has an impact at a personal level as well. Everything from material finishes to the way that space is laid out can contribute towards the productivity, mood, and health of the occupants. For example, did you know that people are less likely to take sick leave when they work in a space that has been well-designed? They are also usually more focused and then tend to contribute more to their business. On the flip side, higher levels of stress can be caused as a consequence of unimaginative buildings and concrete, sterile landscapes.
When you take all of this into account, it is not difficult to see why it is important to have an World Architecture Day. Architects play a massive role in society. Their work is a combination of both science and art, which draws on and intertwines with politics, economics, sociology, psychology, and more! We should appreciate their work and pay tribute to all of the amazing things that they have done so far.
History of World Architecture Day
Created in 2005 by the Union International des Architects (UIA), World Architecture Day is a day to show appreciation for the work architects do and to celebrate some of the great global architectural works.
Architecture is incredibly important and architects have the potential to shape all of our lives through their hard work. In addition, architecture plays an essential role in planning for the future, sustaining population growth and tackling a number of social problems.
Events are held in different locations every year, bringing architects, engineers, planners, and developers together to showcase their work, discuss future projects, debate current issues and plan new business ventures. So if you work in the industry, why not go along and join in?
For those who do not work within the field of architecture, simply take a few moments out of your day to appreciate the architectural feats that you usually take for granted during your everyday life.
We also recommend that you take a look online to find out what the theme is for World Architecture Day. There is a different theme that is attributed to World Architecture Day every year. For example, Healthy Cities, Happy Cities was the theme in 2014. This can help you get some direction on the different ways that you can observe World Architecture Day every year.
How to celebrate World Architecture Day
One of the ways that you can celebrate World Architecture Day is by taking the time to learn about some of the world’s most brilliant examples of architecture. We will start you off by giving you some examples of incredible architecture projects. For example, there is the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, as well as London’s The Shard, which is a famous 72-story skyscraper that has transformed the skyline of the capital city in the UK. It has been inspired by church steeples, with eight-angled glass decades coming together to create the structure, which reflects the sky and city surrounding it.
In Beijing, the Linked Hybrid is another fascinating and impressive architectural structure. It was built in 2009 and designed by Steven Holl Architects. In Singapore, there is the Gardens by the Bay, which was deemed Building of the Year in 2012 by the World Architecture Festival. In 2010, Burj Khalifa was constructed in Dubai. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill are responsible for this amazing creation, which boasts the most stunning and sleek silhouette, which is wrapped in a glass curtain wall. Or, what about Iceland’s HARPA Concert Hall and Conference Center? This building boasts a kaleidoscopic façade of multicolor glass. Artist OLafur Eliasson conceived the crystalline shell that beautifully complements the structure’s aggregate of geometric, jagged volumes.
You can also celebrate World Architecture Day by finding out whether there are any activities and events going on in your local area. There are a lot of different exhibitions, panel discussions, and conferences that tend to go on around the world on World Architecture Day. If you do not have any events or activities that are going on in your local area, take a look online to discover whether any of them are going to be streamed. Thanks to the Internet, it is common for events like this to be streamed on the web today so that everyone around the world is able to make the most of them.
Another way to observe World Architecture Day is to pay tribute to the incredible work that has been done by architects. You can share images and information on the likes of social media or your blog if you have one. Why not alert people to a local architect in your area who has done a lot of great work? There will probably be a lot of infographics and videos going around on World Architecture Day, so share these with your friends, family members, and followers in order to increase awareness!
