When I’m summoned to a staff meeting;

A story of my encounter with a small bat.

I used to clean various places with my Mom back in the day. Did cleaning and janitorial for years. One day at a car dealership we were cleaning, I went outside to collect the trash from the smoking area.

I stooped down to pick up what I thought was a crumpled napkin and instead had a handful of the softest fur I have ever felt. A wing unfurled from it, and I ran to get my mom.

"Mom! Mom! You gotta come see this!"

It was a small bat that had flown into the big glass windows and stunned itself. Mom got a box and gently scooped it up. It's eyes were the size of pin heads, and its mouth was too small to even get around my pinkie. It was trying its best to look fierce because it was scared and dazed, but it only made it look cuter to me. Hissing and barring its tiny fangs at us. Mom had it in the box and we stood there outside watching it to see if it was truly injured or not.

It finally flew away once it collected itself.

Always stuck with me though.
