Homicipher (Mozibake/文字化化) is a horror game currently in development by Yatsunagi (八名木) and to be published by Gamera Games, in which you play as a girl who accidentally stumbles across an Other World. There, she meets some strange men who speak a language she can't understand. Will she be able to learn their language (and possibly even romance them) or die trying? (Images from the game's itch.io page at https://gameragames.itch.io/homicipher<-update: dead link now, sorry)
Meet the guys under the read more!
Mr. Crawling: The first guy the girl meets in the Other World, though they don't talk until later-considering she ran away screaming. He gets around by, uh, crawling. Seems to have a fascination and a protectiveness with her.
Mr. Hood: Might be a guard of some sort. Carries what looks like an axe.
Mr. Gap: Can't seem to leave the gaps. He also "provides" the first game over-killing the girl when she misunderstands him.
Mr. Chopped Head (and his hand, don't know if the rest of his body will be in the full game yet): Appears more expressional than the others. Possibly friends with Mr. Silver Hair.
Mr. Silver Hair: Possibly friends with Mr. Chopped Head. He teaches the protagonist some basic words with the help of Mr. Chopped Head (and hand). There's what appears to be a torture chamber where he lives, but he doesn't use it on the girl (yet). (Theory: the torture chamber was actually used on him, judging by the marks on his body.)
Oh, there's also a guy dressed in red, carrying a red umbrella (update: Mr Scarletella), who appears near the end of episode 1 and seems to be an actual threat (Mr. Gap will only kill the girl if she responds to his question wrong, and he can't get around easily).
So far the word puzzle is still quite confusing, even with the little tutorial from Mr. Silver Hair and Mr. Chopped Head, however it's only been one episode. Also, since the original game is in Japanese, some ciphers might not translate fully into other languages like English.

22/08/24 // Today was a mess. My afternoon plans got thrown out of the window by me having an allergic reaction to something. I woke up from a nap with a very swollen and itchy eye. I guess I can no longer feel smug about not having any allergies. I assume it was either the ivy or butcher’s broom I was fumbling with in this morning’s gardening session. Then there was a lot of confusion at the pharmacy and I have other issues I need to try and get an appointment for tomorrow. The fun never ends.
My evening was made by instantly guessing the 9 letter word in the word wheel that my dad and sister couldn’t get. At least I can feel smug about something. (Oh dear that’s not very nice of me!)

[img id: a series of images in a row. From left to right: a goose; a stack of flatbread; William Shatner screaming into a communications device; the numeral 4 beside an M; and a small glass bottle of black liquid.]
Word puzzle of the day Category: Acronyms (I was going to use another image for "4M" but it was just way too complicated and unintuitive, and the backup I thought of was also not really clear, so I just settled on "4M.")

Just saw someone with “use whatever pronouns you use for yourself for me” in bio. I honestly never considered the depth the pronoun metagame could have, we’ve barely scratched the surface with this shit

Puzzle 44: Cryptic
Developed by Digigo
Puzzle Classification: Word Puzzles; Digital Game; Gaming App
Difficulty Level: N/A
Price: Free Download (Contains Ads)
Review:
Well, call it a bit of laziness with a mix penny-pincher and procrastinator that reduced me to playing a FREE Mobile App Game.
Completely free due to the absurd amount of ads - roughly every 1-2 minutes.
I thought the ads would be the death of me - but - roughly around the 2 hour mark the ads no longer appeared, thus meaning I was left alone with the medicore storyline and "investigation".
Given nothing away on the story in case others check it out - I will try to concisely provide an idea of gameplay:
You play as a reporter who must unearth a major story or face losing their job.
The game is broken up into Two Parts:
CRYPTIC LEVELS: First you need to complete "cryptic" word puzzles - basically you are given a definition/statement and you are required to solve for the "key words". By achieving the correct key word(s) - you are provided a phrase which essentially foreshadows the events in the "Story Mode". With each Cryptic Level/Word Puzzle you complete you then gain... I'm going to call them "turn tokens" - you need "turn tokens" to just enter the Story Mode and you need to continue to collect "turn tokens" to complete story levels - I ended up playing - 84 ROUNDS - just to finish "Big Case #1"....
STORY MODE: There are 10 levels to the story mode. Durning the Story Mode the mystery/story unravels and you make choices with your actions AND dialogue which supposedly effects the outcome of the game - which I don't buy - I am under the impression that no matter what action you take you will get the same ending... I am just sooo done with this game I don't care to prove or disprove.
Long-Review-Short... This "Word Puzzle" portion is okay for passing a few minutes here and there, but the ads and storyline are too excruciating and lame to garner my further attention.
Lastly/Supposedly, you could pay for "No Ads", but again - I dont think the game/story are worth it.
Completion Time:
2hr47min41sec40ms
Hints/Clues Used: (Zero)
Items Not Included / Needed:
None Needed
Personal Rating: 2.5/10
2024 Puzzle Record: 39/45

Haunting of Hill House Connections Puzzle!!
In honor of 6 (!!!) years since Hill House, if anyone is a fan of the show and/or word puzzles, I've made a personalized Haunting of Hill House Connections puzzle :)
Click the link to fill it out, here's a sneak peek of what it looks like:
If anyone wants to do it, feel free to put your results in the comments/share the puzzle. Maybe it'll be fun?!?!
Rules of Connections (as per NYTimes website):
You are given a grid of 16 words.
Your goal is to find four groups of four words that share a common theme.
To select a group of words, click or tap on them one by one.
Once you have selected a group of four words, click or tap the “submit” button.
If your answer is correct, the four words will disappear and you will be presented with a new group of words to solve.
If your answer is incorrect, you will lose one life.
You have a total of four lives. If you lose all of your lives, the game will end.
The goal of the game is to solve as many groups of words as possible before running out of lives.
HAVE FUN!!
