Shelves I built for my mother's yarn over the course of 4 days.
Inspired by the late JoAnn Fabrics of course.

Cut and pasted from a civil engineering group on Facebook:
A variety of common wood joints used in woodworking and carpentry. Let's break down some of these joints:
Simple Joints:
Butt Joint: The simplest joint, where two pieces of wood are simply butted together. Not very strong on its own, often reinforced with glue and screws.
Mitre Joint: Two pieces of wood are cut at a 45-degree angle and joined to form a 90-degree corner. Often used for picture frames and decorative elements.
Interlocking Joints:
Dovetail Joint: A strong joint used in drawers and boxes. Interlocking pins and tails create a very strong connection.
Half-Lap Joint: Two pieces of wood are overlapped, with a portion of each piece removed to create a flat surface for joining.
Mortise and Tenon Joint: A classic woodworking joint where a tenon (a projecting piece) on one piece fits into a mortise (a hole) in another. Strong and used in furniture and construction.
Scarf Joint: Two pieces of wood are cut at an angle and joined to create a longer piece. Used for lengthening boards.
Mechanical Joints:
Biscuit Joint: Thin, oval-shaped biscuits of compressed wood are inserted into slots cut into the joining pieces. Glue is then applied, and the pieces are clamped together.
Dowel Joint: Round wooden dowels are inserted into holes drilled in both pieces of wood, providing a strong mechanical connection.
Pocket Hole Joint: A specialized jig is used to drill angled holes into the edge of one piece of wood. Screws are driven into these holes to connect the pieces.
Other Joints:
Box Joint: A series of interlocking fingers create a very strong and visually appealing joint.
Dado Joint: A groove is cut into one piece of wood to receive the edge of another.
Bridle Joint: A variation of the mortise and tenon joint, with additional interlocking elements.
Rabbet Joint: A groove is cut into the edge of one piece of wood to receive the edge of another.
Tongue and Groove Joint: A tongue (a projecting piece) on one board fits into a groove in another. Commonly used in flooring and paneling.
Half-Dovetail Joint: A simplified version of the dovetail joint, often used for drawer boxes.
Key Considerations:
Strength: The strength of a joint depends on the type of joint, the wood species, the quality of the joinery, and the glue used.
Appearance: Some joints are more visually appealing than others, making them suitable for decorative purposes.
Application: The choice of joint depends on the intended use of the piece and the desired strength and appearance.
This image provides a valuable overview of the various wood joints used in woodworking and carpentry. Understanding these joints is crucial for any woodworker or DIY enthusiast.

Me @ me: okay listen. This time, we are just going to buy a piece of furniture. We are not going to criticize the design, or insist that we could make it better ourselves, and we are definitely not going to spend $500 and two and a half years trying to prove it. We are just going to buy a piece of furniture, okay?
Me ten minutes later: They want HOW MUCH for that piece of shit?? That's $60 worth of wood at MOST you fucking HIGHWAY ROBBERS, and a stiff breeze could knock it over - hold on, let me pull up my local sawmill's price list -

i made these sword wall mounts from Link’s house in BotW! i made three in total to match the three in Link’s Hateno house. the TotK ones are slightly different, featuring a rod to stand the weapon upright, rather that against the wall.*
i’m gonna be overly descriptive here for my own reference, as well as anyone else who would like to make something similar!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
here’s the specs:
mount:
h - 44 in // w(top) - 16 in // w(bottom) - 14 in
plaque:
h - 2.5 in // w - 8.5 in
- made from plywood and cut wooden sticks
- bindings used screws, wood glue, and a nail gun
- base colour using spray paint
- border colour using primer paint
- fastened with velcro temporarily
- backside is hung on wall with a wire line
i plan to add Hylian text to the plaques. probably something general rather than a specific weapon name (so i can swap swords between mounts).
also planning to replace the velcro strip with a leather strap and buckle. something adjustable for different sizes. i’ll either use rivets or simply cut two slots in the sides for the leather strap to go through.
all my swords i plan on hanging here are high-density foam/PVC pipe. so far, i have the royal claymore, great flameblade, and master sword. although the first two are larger in game, they are roughly the same size as the master sword seen in the photos. this allows me to make a one-size-fits-most build!

inspired by u/ on reddit and twitter for the inspiration!

Dock and Determination
To avoid the prior post getting too long, I'm going to start a new one for the final portion of the dock reno. Thursday we placed the support beams, ten treated 2x8s; a single down the middle and doubled ones on each side.

This morning my husband wanted us to get all the tools and equipment down there between 6 and 7 am, so we could start work at 7 sharp. The only power tools were the circular saw and the nail gun, but the nail gun needs the air compressor and having power tools at all meant that we had to have the generator. All in all, it was a lot to get moving. The day started overcast and cool, which was a big help.
When I say that EVERYTHING went wrong in the beginning, I really mean it. I won't write you a book, but . . damn. Everything went wrong. Generator, air compressor, nail gun. A neighbor came to help with cutting the decking to length, and he couldn't use his circular saw until the generator situation was sorted out.
By 7:45, we actually got started. When the nail gun refused to work, we got out hammers. Old school.

I did so well at my portion of the hammering! I didn't bend a single one. What my shoulder will feel like tomorrow, I don't know, but ; )

I have decided that Perpetua is a creepy little elder goth. He just has the energy of someone who frequented the bat cave and likes teasing people who think they’ll trip on the glass of absinth he offered them. He knows all the words to The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove. He has a very well-worn copy of The Flowers of Evil that he got because he didn’t like the translations in his other copy. Is this probably just because he mentioned the catty at the Glasgow ritual? Perhaps. But in my heart I know I’m right😌

Another distaff attempt. This one was just a stick I found on the ground, that was naturally all wavy. I wanted to try a thin distaff to see if it would help with hand pain, and I thought the waviness might help keep the fiber attached. I debarked it and sanded it--will decorate it later once I know if it'll be a distaff or not.
I wound a partial batt on using a spare in progress icord (stuck the dpns into the fiber to keep it secure, actually works pretty well !). Only had 10 minutes or so to try it out this morning but I like it so far. Still a little heavy, but the waves are great for keeping the fiber in place, it hasn't slid at all so far. More updates to come, hopefully.

How I Built a Sturdy Wooden Bed Frame (Step-by-Step DIY Guide)
Introduction A few months ago, I decided to build my own wooden bed frame. Why? Because store-bought frames can be expensive, and I wanted something custom-made to fit my style and needs. Plus, I love a good DIY challenge! After researching, planning, and putting in some elbow grease, I successfully built a solid, stylish bed frame that I’m proud of. In this guide, I’ll walk you through every…

Hermithouse update!
Aka the miniature wooden house I'm making for school / an art gallery, that I'm trying to add as many hermitcraft references to as possible!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fun fact, the second floor is removable :3
Tumblr media
Look at the lil bridge and spikey rocks i made for the outside area :D and all it took to make them was a small blood sacrifce! (<-this isn't a joke btw, i ended up getting hurt while using an electric saw... DW IT'S FINE ITS JUST A SMALL CUT LMFAO!!!)
The house is built on a river next to a forrest, but since i left that part in school over the weekend, i can't show yall my progress on it ;^;
More info + pictures of the whole house bellow!
(if u wanna suggest/already suggested sth, the update on the suggestions is below too!)
The deadline is Wednesday, which sadly means i don't have time to finish/add everything until then... BUT! Once the gallery is over, i will try to add the rest, including some more obvious references!
My current plans are:
Painting of a BIG moon
Original 12 bamboo
Mending book reference
Scarland artbook
Grumbot Laptop
Snail
Cherryblossom tree
The river near Magic Mountain (+gems deadly rocks)
Effo statue
Permitoffice posters
Hotguy poster
Gems boat
already added/gona try n add these before Wednesday, I'll add these after the gallery
Most of these are things you guys suggested, big ty for that! If u have any more ideas, feel free to tell me, although i will only be able to add those after the gallery!

Hey check this out *makes an art easel*
I'm so glad I have this thing now, I don't have to fuck up my back painting anymore!! :,D
It's made of knotty alder wood and stands a little less than 5ft 9in tall when it's tripod like that, and it's about 6ft 1in in terms of actual height. The shelf is able to be adjusted (it's got pegs in the back that insert into the holes), so it can fit pretty much any painting I'll ever do.
It's probably not the most efficient or pretty design ever, but it's functional and I love it so much.

Build Your Own Adventure: DIY Wooden Camping Gear for Unforgettable Trips
Hey there, fellow woodworking and outdoor enthusiasts! Let me tell you a story. A few summers ago, I packed my old tent, some rusty cooking gear, and headed out for a weekend camping trip. The trip was great, but I think about how much more enjoyable it would be if my gear wasn’t so… well, basic. That’s when it hit me: why not build my own camping equipment? Not only would it be a fun challenge,…
