Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon will take your taste buds on a remarkable journey. It is made by taking authentic Woodford Reserve bourbon and resting it in American Oak barrels that have been toasted for five days over an open flame then filled with maple syrup. The resulting finish is rich with the mellow sweetness of the syrup and is finished off in bourbon casks which adds a layer of depth and complexity.
An innovative approach to twice-barreled bourbon creates the rich and colorful flavor of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. Uniquely matured in separate, charred oak barrels – the second barrel deeply toasted before a light charring – extracts additional soft, sweet oak character.

What drinks do you recommend? What's best for just relaxing at home, chilling with friends, hardcore partying, etc.?
relaxing at home: bourbon or white wine. generally bourbon, b/c there's less pressure to Finish The Bottle or anything like that; bourbon is shelf-stable and there for me whether i want a half-shot or, uh, lots of shots
(if someone's with me or it's a very cheap bottle of white wine, i'll tend to opt for the wine)
but yeah Eagle Rare is my fave bourbon; it's bottled close to where i grew up. shame it's gone up so much in price lately but it really strikes the balance between scotch-style subtlety/complexity and bourbon-style still-tasting-good-and-sweet-and-not-like-dirt
partying: if you asked me in college this would've been a vodka-cranberry lmao. i have ascended to the realms of Better Taste now; i'd probably go for a decent rum cocktail if i'm trying to throw back a lot. i mean if i REALLY want to get messed up i can also just throw back rum shooters in the bathroom but. i rarely am in such a situation
in between: they're kinda pricey, but there's a lot to be said for a fancy cocktail bar where the drinks come slowly but are immaculately crafted, the food is cute lil small plates, no one's hurrying you and you can just chat a long time. some of my favorite times with friends have just been shooting the shit in a cozy booth & catching up on shit & trying out that BIZARRE looking cocktail we see across the room because is that a MARSHMALLOW on top??? & oh shit is this place serving ramen, i had no idea, i love ramen & also hey why don't i point at that tiki mug and just ask the bartender to make me something that tastes like that. it's like one of my bougier indulgences but it's legitimately really nice; you always leave buzzed-but-not-drunk, just vibing and feelin good
when budgets have not allowed for said bars then i'd stick with bourbon at home. woodford reserve double oaked or angel's envy is really nice. i have to be careful not to accidentally drink anyone under the table (do NOT try to keep up with my bourbon consumption) but a good bourbon served out in teeny portions with nice glasses can have a similarly good vibe

Woodford 12/30
It isn't a lack of truth; I overthink entirely too much, but level with me..this isn't the first time & very similar circumstances & I'm not sure if this is some universal test? Karmic retribution for my past mistakes, maybe this is nothing at all, but if that were the case, then why am I up at 5:53 on a Saturday morning deep in a glass of whisky untangling the infinite hypotheticals...? Surely, this pusillanimous state I'm in, the endless synapses firing off that are slowly drowning in the double oak barrel reserve being forced down my throat for the fear of any unpleasant crossroad because I LOATHE the lows .. potential for them anyhow. Happy New Years Eve Eve
Christmas was good. We spent time with her family to which I discovered that crime, specifically shoplifting, was decriminalized in New York? The jury is still deliberating this no pun intended. In all seriousness, it was a beautiful experience. I remember when my Grandamommy's house was once teeming with love. Granted, we didn't have nearly as many members, that's not to say my mother's house isn't overabundant in love, but I lost track of the amount of people & being quizzed 5 minutes on Aunt Dina & Cousin Madelyn & who has on the orange top with black bottom versus who has on black top with orange bottom can somewhat paint the picture for the swaths of individuals. Uncle Shawn's a good guy. Eagles fan or not, I could talk sports & shoot the shit with him until the last grain of sand fell from my hourglass, as long as some cowboys fans were there hah
I'm going to try therapy soon. I wonder how Kurt felt, or was that just a fleeting thought. The most recent still of he playing a guitar juxtapose a girl wearing something of a tie dye Nirvana shirt with the bold print "Disrespectful" stamped across the screen shot through my mind like a comet. I'm not sure it would've mattered to him at this point of his life had he still been with us. Fathering his daughter seemed to be of utmost importance to him prior to his death, why should we believe that would change? My focus is similar, despite my vice to the brown stuff, I want to nurture & grow all my relationships. Maybe therapy is the answer for me. One office turned me down & another didn't respond. The third said they couldn't help while they offered a suggestion, so maybe they did help after all. We'll see, I hope. As I sit here at 6:13, contemplating what's next... I know I'm going to keep reading. My father would appreciate that. Oh, Update on my Pop Pop, he is doing better from last I spoke with Aunt Pat & my dad. I wish I wasn't under the weather so I could see him.
What was the root cause of the Civil War? That is the new point of contention for the internet discourse among troglodytes, or at least one of them. I'm just glad it isn't "if he invites you on a date, should you split the bill if he asks" because i'm tired. WE are not a monolith either, but damn! Well, who am I to judge, I find joy in watching minecraft videos from time to time & my humor is so broken... I cannot be the first to cast a stone or call the kettle black.
I'm not sure if i'm drunk or it does feel good to write like this. I used to be a poet, you know? if you take some time & scroll, you'll see. That's if anyone else is actually reading this. Or, & I sometimes feel like these little rants are for me to look back over, maybe you should scroll down, yourself, writer & see what you've done. Give yourself a bit of a jolt that you need. Lil prognostication here. Put it together 2024.. all of it. Make the people around you proud. Whoever isn't around, wish them the same. No need to say fuck em, that mantra is adopted by one too many & we
see how the world is turning out now, don't we. Genocides are filmed with no definite end in sight. Whether it be for something like this: a laptop to type my first world problems on or the direct attempt at the erasure of a Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.. we've lost sight of Humanitarianism. I know, these are the hot button topics, but what happens when they turn cold? What happens when the news cycle filters in a new story that captivates the audiences across the world? Are we to forget the atrocities that occurred under our watchful eye. This needs its own section(see here for the reason of break midsentence). Are we doomed to these primitive ways of conflict resolution? I'd hope not, otherwise dystopian novelists have some explaining to do & why were they not picking lotto tickets instead of shaping the landscape for my future? How selfish of me...so many other people in desolate corners of the world, with little to no hope of survival & here we are.. what type of Chai would you like, sir? Pathetic. Even though a chai latte sounds nice, from your local coffeeshop, because its f*** the Bucks, it just confirms this whole disconnect from the rest of the world. That isn't to say that I don't face my own issues as a Black man, but I could rant less...I could do a bit more for other people...being denied from a therapist really frustrated me while people gave birth & lost their newborn because one group of people, backed by an empire, decided that they were not important enough to live.
I pocket these thoughts...because...well I don't know... Jigglypuff

September 21
Last day in Lexington and making the most of it. Traveling north out of Lexington to The Ark Encounter. Very powerful message of God’s hand upon mankind. We asked ourselves “how can one not believe?”. Spent most of the morning here taking in God’s word. 🙏🏻❤️ Left here and headed through another part of the countryside brimming with old barns, homes, canopies of trees starting to change color and narrow winding roads. Just beautiful! Our destination is Woodford Reserve Distillery. This distillery was founded in the late 1800’s, survived through prohibition and is now the largest distillery and distribution in the world. The grounds were beautiful and the bourbon tasting and history was fascinating. The two red barrels are the bourbon that will served at the 2024 Kentucky Derby 150th celebration. We enjoyed the Double Oaked bourbon that was very smooth and delicious paired with chocolate! Our day was complete with a final drive through the countryside and saying goodbye to the Thoroughbred horses.

"Saloon Singer" is what Frank Sinatra called himself, meaning that lyrics were as important to him as the music. To me “Saloon singer” is an incredibly intimate thing. I feel like there’s a vulnerability of a person blessed and cursed with a gift. Creativity can be a vermin in one’s mind sometimes. Gifts or can be cumbersome and not easily balanced. All of the greats have struggled with addiction and vices, had to reinvent themselves with the changing landscape. That’s what creates the intimacy I spoke of. You may get a man on top of his world at one show, and at the next see the same man numbing his wounds with cocaine and whiskey two years later. It’s performing with your heart on your sleeve for all to see. Mr Tony Bennet said at a young age, “I don’t care if I make it, I just want to keep singing.” Talent has a way of making one a passenger in their own body. They follow fate. Mr Bob Hope told Anthony Dominick Benedetto that that name was a tad too much, you’re Tony Bennett now. Anthony hadn’t planned for that. He woke up Anthony and went to bed that night as Tony! I’ve been feeling such a loss this weekend with Tony Bennett’s passing. I feel bad because I didn’t appreciate him as much as other performers because his music was almost too smooth and tended to be a slower pace. It almost made me stereotype him that he was safe and boring. I was very wrong. If Tony Bennet was a whiskey I’d say he’d be a Woodford Reserve Double Oak. It’s a smooth sipper. Goes down with grace and finesse it’s charismaticly dangerous if you underestimate it. Mr Tony Bennet is no different. He served in the US Army when he was drafted to world war 2. He fought hard but also referred to war as “A Front-Row Seat in Hell” During his time deployed Tony was demoted for breaking segregation rules and hanging out with a Black soldier. Tony scarred by the discrimination and horrors he endured came home a pacifist. He marched in the civil rights effort in Montgomery, Alabama. Pacifist or not, he was never afraid to do the right thing. Bob Hopes work with the USO further inspired Tony to excel in his entertainment career to the point when he was praised by Mr Frank Sinatra when he told life magazine “For my money, Tony Bennett is the best singer in the business.” He won 20 Grammy awards, performed for John F Kennedy, Queen Elizabeth and Bill Clinton. He’s had an amazing life, good and bad, struggled with drugs and alcohol but ultimately fought back and stood stronger. His son was instrumental in his father’s late career successes. Tony identified talents like K.D. Lang, Amy Winehouse and Lady Gaga and shared his stage with them promoting their talents. His love and passion for music was so strong that in his final days he was by the piano immobilized at the end of his bout with Alzheimer’s disease and he came alive to sing his last song he’d ever perform, to his dear wife Susan, the song was “Because of you.” Nothing is stronger than love and music. I respected Tony Bennet because he was the last of the saloon singers, unfortunately I not, until now have had a grasp on his depth and character. I got ready this afternoon showering and getting dressed and took my time because I was listening to his MTV unplugged album and I was savoring each song as much as my Miller High Life pony. I listened to the 22 tracks almost like it was the first time I heard them. He really is a master of his craft. He’s someone we’ve been lucky enough to have in the background of our lives and there’s no one left in the saloon. No one is big enough to fill this man’s shoes. This is last call, this is an end of a truly magic era. Thank you Mr Bennet. Bravo!

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
Bo: Hey there! I've been exploring the world of bourbons lately, and I stumbled upon something that caught my eye – the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. Ever heard of it?
Oh, absolutely! The Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is a real gem in the bourbon universe. It's a unique twist on the classic Woodford Reserve, where the spirit gets a second round of aging in a new set of oak barrels. It's like giving the bourbon a double dose of character.
Bo: This Woodford Reserve Double Oaked sounds fantastic, but I'm curious about the distillery itself. Who makes it?
Woodford Reserve is crafted by the Brown-Forman Corporation, one of the largest American-owned companies in the spirits and wine business. They're based in Louisville, Kentucky, and have been around for quite some time.
Bo: Interesting! What's the history behind the company?
The history of Brown-Forman is a story of perseverance and innovation. Founded by George Garvin Brown in 1870, it started with Old Forester, which is actually the first bourbon to be sold in sealed glass bottles to ensure quality. This was a game-changer back in the day.
Bo: That's quite a legacy. How did Woodford Reserve come into play?
Well, Woodford Reserve itself was introduced in 1996, but the distillery's roots go way back. The site, known as the Labrot & Graham Distillery back then, has been producing whiskey since 1812. It's one of the oldest distilleries in Kentucky and is a National Historic Landmark.
Bo: Wow, so there's a lot of history in every bottle.
Absolutely. And that history is reflected in their commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Woodford Reserve is known for its small-batch production process, which includes a unique triple distillation in copper pot stills. It's this dedication to the craft that makes their bourbon stand out.
Bo: That sounds intriguing! What sets it apart from other bourbons?
Well, for starters, the color is a deep amber, almost like a rich honey. It's got this beautiful clarity and a viscous quality that clings to the glass, hinting at its full body.
Bo: I'm already picturing it. And what about the aroma? I bet it's got a lot going on.
You'd win that bet. The nose is a symphony of vanilla and caramel notes, with a backdrop of toasted oak. There's a sweetness there, like toasted marshmallows over a campfire, mixed with a hint of dried dark fruits. It's quite the invitation to take a sip.
Bo: My mouth is watering just hearing about it. So, what does it taste like?
The taste is where the Double Oaked truly shines. It's a rich tapestry of flavors – think of a burst of sweet vanilla and caramel at first, followed by waves of dark chocolate and dried fruit. There's a subtle spiciness too, with a touch of cinnamon and clove that balances the sweetness.
Bo: Sounds complex. And the finish?
The finish is long and satisfying. It leaves you with a smooth, creamy sensation and a lingering warmth that's neither too harsh nor too mild. It's the kind of finish that invites contemplation and makes you reach for another sip.
Bo: You're making a strong case here. But what about the price and availability?
It's positioned as a premium bourbon, so it's a bit pricier than your standard bottle. However, considering its unique double-barrel aging process, many would say it's well worth the investment. It's not the rarest bourbon out there, but you might have to look around a bit or check online retailers.
Bo: Got it. And if you were to rate it?
I'd give it a solid 9 out of 10. It's a must-try for any bourbon enthusiast and a delightful experience for newcomers to the scene. It's a bourbon that respects tradition while adding its own innovative twist.
Bo: Thanks for the rundown! I think I know what I'll be trying next.
Anytime, my friend. And for those watching, if you've tried the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, share your thoughts in the comments below. Don't forget to like and subscribe for more bourbon, scotch or cigar reviews and discussions. Until next time, cheers to good sips and great company!
