A few have joined the journey as recently as yesterday. I’m grateful for the presence of all of you in my life. To mark this occasion, I thought I’d reflect upon those moments when my wonder gave me a glimpse of the “Thin Places” that I’ve experienced…

Wood frogs also can also freeze up to 2/3 of their bodies’ water to survive the winter, and in many places are one of the very first not only frogs but amphibians in general to begin breeding during the first night of warm rain in February-early March!

Wood frogs’ bodies can be a variety of shades of green, gray, red, and brown—with the colors more vivid on females than on males—but all of the frogs bear the distinctive, masklike black marking across the eyes. This wood frog was photographed at the National Aquarium in Baltimore.

Weretober 2024 - The Witches of Beast Fables

Since it's both Weretober AND Spooky season, I might as well share some bits of worldbuilding for my Beast Fables setting, Witches!

Witches in Urvara are practictioners of some of the oldest cultural and religious traditions in the setting, revering the Gift of transformation that all werefolk and certain animals share.

The goal was to give these witches a vibe that they are "normalized" in comparison to many fantasy settings, in which they are considered respected (by some nations) and vital, while not dabbling too much into classic "magic" elements. At most, dragon remains are the most magical items they do have.

The real conflict within the setting is actually that witches were, historically, antagonized by Alchemists, because they were seen as competition when it comes to studying the bones and remains of dragons.

And of course I followed a maiden mother and crone theme!
