Sims In Bloom: Generation 2 Pt. 177 (Afterlife Anonymous with the Pancakes)

The day after the wedding, Ash and the Gordons met their old friends, the Pancakes, in Ravenwood's dark and mysterious Mourningvale neighbourhood, which was nothing like picturesque Whispering Glen. Here, sun and stars couldn't penetrate dense fog, so they all wore coats to guard against the eerie chill.

But despite the spooky setting, Ash found a ghostly cowplant who wanted to play!

The Pancakes had come for one reason - so their middle child, Jett, could come face-to-face with ghosts at Afterlife Anonymous. They hoped to help him heal from the trauma of watching Elsa Bjerg-Watson freeze to death before his eyes, but they understood there might be no simple solution.

Despite this, Everett and Spencer Pancakes would do anything for their kids, and though Ravenwood was far from home in Henford, they were happy to be here with good friends.

Heather and Conrad were both trying to keep their minds off the startling revelation Felix had shared with them that morning - that the judge presiding over Ash's custody case would some day become the time thief, Robin (Marlow) Banks.

They were understandably incensed, but Felix had promised them he'd handle it. Better him than them, he said, and they believed him.

Tonight, their focus was on helping the boy Heather gave birth to as a surrogate a decade earlier. They gathered around the potluck table set up near a coffee maker to nosh while everyone acclimated to the strange surroundings.

Thirteen-year-old Greyson Pancakes, Heather's godson, instantly appreciated the Gordons for inviting Lucy Burb along! His crush was obvious to everyone, and neither he, nor Lucy, spent much time talking to anyone else the rest of the night.

In the open square where Afterlife Anonymous meetings were held in Ravenwood, they took seats arranged in a circle before a black podium - provided the seats weren't being possessed by one of several translucent ghosts who'd also come for food, coffee, and supportive conversation.

Jett Pancakes sat nervously as the ghost behind the podium finished sharing their story, his eyes darting from one apparition to the next.

"It'll be okay, Jett," said Ash. "These ghosts are all in good moods; I can see their auras and none of the ghosts here are scary."

"Are you sure?"

Jett eyed them warily as one of the ghosts mischievously jump-scared his mother - much to Spencer's chagrin.

"I'm sure," Ash said.

Ten-year-old Jett listened quietly while the ghosts shared their experiences - how they died, and why they had chosen to stick around. He wondered whether he might see the ghost of Elsa Bjerg-Watson tonight, but the mother of his friend, Jada, was nowhere to be found. Maybe she found a reason to cross over, he thought.

"You look confused, kid."

He looked up at the translucent figure before him. He could make out the lines of their face and see their smile, but he still fidgeted nervously in his chair. "I'm not confused," he protested. "But...do you like being dead?"

The ghost chuckled at the innocent query. "Living like this is sort of like being alive. I go where I want and jump-scare who I please, and I decide when I'm done. Nobody controls me."

"But where's your family and all your friends?"

They shrugged. "Here and there. But once you pass on, you're on your own journey. Wherever you go next is entirely up to you."

Jett's protective older brother spoke up with a stern glare. "You're not really suggesting life as a ghost is the same as being alive."

"It isn't," the ghost said quickly. "But it is. It's hard to explain, but not everyone looks for ambrosia after they die."

"But you're...you're happy?" Jett eyed the ghost with a hopeful innocence.

"Everyone has some regrets, and ghosts aren't immune, but I couldn't be happier, all things considered."

Disinterested in the ghosts and their stories, Lavender was happy to spend time with Violet Pancakes. The girls were practically the same age and remembered one another from Roan's gender reveal party, but neither was all that interested in a meeting of ghostly grown-ups.

"Wanna stargaze with me?" she asked, and Violet glanced up at the sky with a frown.

"It's all clouds," she said, but Lavender shrugged.

"We can imagine it!"

So Violet and Lavender gazed at the stars fog above their heads before grabbing some food at the square, pointing out imaginary constellations and pretending together. Heather and Conrad were happy to see Lavender making a friend, and didn't blame the young girls for their disinterest in Afterlife Anonymous.

Greyson and Lucy weren't much interested in the ghosts, either. They chatted away about their favourite games and TV shows, and the adults mingled curiously with the dead, but Jett was thoroughly intrigued as he listened to their stories.

It was late when the meeting came to an end, but Jett came away with as many new questions as he'd gotten answers.

But he no longer wondered with a sense of fear. Death's mysteries intrigued and inspired him, and there was no telling how far Jett's newfound curiosity would take him. ->

NOTE: Several of the ghosts who showed up were premades I made homeless who've been culled, but I'm not naming any of them to suspend belief when the same premades show up in a later generation alive and well. Also, it's Afterlife Anonymous! So if you recognize the ghosts, think of them as ancestors of the premades instead.

Also, I stayed on the lot until almost 1 a.m. even with school the next day for these kids, and most of the furniture disappeared but not all - is it possible the issues affecting San Myshuno festivals are impacting the Ravenwood ones, too, or is this just my game? Has anyone played a lot in the world who might know?

BONUS: Here's a shot of Greyson without the toque on, showing off his braces. I'm excited because he's Heather's godson and was the first baby born in game for gen 3 (throwback to his infant years in Oasis Springs here!)

That means Ash becoming a teenager is not too far off at all! Ash is already eleven, and he'll age up at 13. Makes me want to blow through two weeks worth of gameplay just to see what he looks like, but stuff is about to go down so I must wait.

Hi loves! Well, here it is: my first ever speed build. It's very chaotic and messy (it took me more than 20 hours to build this, so making a short video was a challenge)... buuuut the playlist is nice if you like piano and classical music, so at least you can play it in the background while you do something else. I hope you enjoy the build... and the video!

Also, the build has been fully playertested and I changed some things since recording and taking screenshots so you can play through the career without problems.

RAVENWOOD ( LIFE & DEATH ) K-303 & K-606 BASEGAME ( ALMOST ) MANDATORY K-505 UPDATE

Hello people :)

Halloween has arrived, and with it, the Life & Death expansion ! We’ve been working hard to make sure Ravenwood is a hauntingly beautiful place for your Sims to visit … or haunt, depending on their mood. Here’s what’s new :

For once, we are going to make 2 posts related to the new town of Life & Death expansion : Ravenwood ...

Of course, this not the first time maxis includes base game stuff in expansions worlds, but this time, it's not about stuff but it's all about terrains ;)

So, except the Afterlife side of Ravenwood which has its own dark rocks, Ravenwood countryside is made of its own cliffs and ... Oasis Spring Rocks/Mountains ( a desert town, just as a reminder ) ... Why Oasis Spring ? it would be more logical to create specific new rocks or at least, choose the more grayish rocks from Willow Creek but well ... ea / maxis / logic <- not the best combo :D

So, after some tests, we decided to modify the rocks/mountains of Oasis Spring, which is only based on a choice of our own. Curiously, now they are not orange anymore, they give a less flat aspect to the town ...

Then, we modified "small" things & stuff of the base game we should have done a long time ago, but not mandatory such as the stone street planter and public lavatories. They are all over Ravenwood now, and their original look seems more ugly than before :D so, we modified them ;) idem with the base short stone fence ... ( yes we know, we have to make more fences )

-> Well, you see the point ;)

Related to the other k-303, the ones included in Ravenwood ( both sides ) we made few ones in order to get a similar look & feel than the k-505 urban :) And we modified a bit the debug town banners ( mostly sharpening, colour ) and streetlamps ... well, you'll discover it, or not :D your choice of course :)

The k-303 isn’t mandatory, but it adds just the right touch to elevate Ravenwood’s atmosphere. Here’s what’s been updated:

Gravesites – Some of the graves in Ravenwood had a mix of grass and dirt that didn’t quite fit the mood. We’ve refreshed these textures to blend seamlessly with the k-505 for that true cemetery feel.

Portal & Soul Bowl – Over in the Netherworld, the portal and soul bowl were looking a little… underwhelming. Now, with enhanced textures, they bring just the right level of mystique and “cool” factor to the other side.

Solicitor Rug – Our lovely public service solicitor has a new set of rugs that better reflect the status and vibe of Ravenwood. A touch of style for the gentleman who offers advice to all ( living or dead )

Street Decor – The town square banners, street lamps, and other decorative touches around Ravenwood have gotten a glow-up.

So, dive into and see how these textures and additions bring new life ( or un-life ) to this chilling town.

About the k-606 : roofs and foundation + 3 series of fences are re-made :) One is still under work and will be released very soon.

Ravenwood has so many fences we couldn’t just leave them plain and un-haunted. These additions help set the mood perfectly for any mysterious, eerie Sim wandering through town ;)

Because the large part of grass included in some other graves, we included them directly into the Ravenwood k-505 mod :)

Ravenwood Redux | HeadlessQuarters

This is my first EA redux since they started working with creators on their lots, and honestly, there wasn't really anything to "fix" — I've just added a lot more storytelling clutter and made a few functional and aesthetic tweaks...

The Grimterns might never see power as employee of the month, but they've banded together to coerce Grim into making a few improvements: better computers, better lighting, more freedom to personalize their workstations, a utility closet for, um... utilities, better snacks in the break room, and even a mini fridge downstairs for easier access to beverages. Things are still feeling a bit stuffy upstairs, which is a shame because Grim has insisted on relocating the entire library to the second floor, which means more face time with you-know-who whenever you need to research an assignment.
