Hythlodaeus' breath caught at the sight of the paint on the wall. These were no mere cave paintings, and for a moment, he was not looking at stylized depictions of events long past in a quiet, damp cave, but breathing the dust of rubble around him, the weight of an immense amount of aether bearing down, and a light so briliant that it nearly blinded him as his heart beat nearly free of his breast.

The 3rd Sun of the 3rd Umbral Moon - or in other terms, June 3rd - marks the day a very special cat entered the world. Happy Birthday Arsay!

So, I would like to introduce you all to my newest fixation, which is also an old fixation in a way, Hythlodaeus. Only this time, instead of being sacrificed to Zodiark, he was caught in the Sundering.

He was born Iðunn, a young Vieran girl who always felt like she was missing something. When she was still just a kit, she dreamed of becoming a wood-warder, so that she could go out into the forest and search for whatever was causing that odd longing. However, when she came of age, her clan determined that, since it was now known she was a woman, it was her place to care for the village and children. Unhappy with this, she left, leaving the forest entirely.

Of course she gets wrapped up in the events of A Realm Reborn, meeting the scions and learning a bit more to be herself as she realized more and more that everything felt just that little bit wrong.

And then she fought Lahabrea, and she died.

As Hydaelyn brought back Her champion, she brought back...rather more than intended. Memories of a past life flooded Iðunn's mind -- or rather, now, Hythlodaeus' mind. He remembered all now, how he had lived in paradise once, how he had loved, how the star had burned and, of course, how he had died.

He cut and restyled his hair into his familiar braid, and took the name Hythlodaeus as his "city" name, leaning on the traditions of his current life to give him an excuse. If the Scions noticed how his eyes now had a faint glow, or how he suddenly spoke slightly differently, they made no direct mention. And no one was surprised that he, who had been struggling so much with his identity up until then, finally voiced that he would prefer to be referred to as a man, if they would be so kind.

And so, believing all he knew and loved to be gone, Hythlodaeus struck out to continue aiding this world he now lived in. Of course, little did he know not all he had loved was gone.

...And that's where we'll hit pause, as anything more would be spoilers. :3

Upon closer examination, you can clearly see that his ears are getting a little red... )

Short Scholar: I wish I did not have to do this. Under normal circumstances, I'd actually rather die than ask a complete stranger for this manner of help... but I have no other choice. This library did not stop to consider accommodating anyone who is smaller than a damn dhalmel. So I was wondering if... could you— <groan> Urgh, could you just grab the books on the upper shelves for me?! And don't make it obvious to the other visitors that you're helping me out!

Final Boss

The Mourning Mage: Many bodies have I buried in my endless pursuit to try and save lives... Yours will be but droplets in the colossal sea of death I have weathered. I will find the means to end this needless suffering once and for all!

i miss writing my wol so bad 😭 i suppose i could just write her in the league verse too but i really love the xiv setting, but i'm just so divorced from xiv after everything that's happened and i just feel so little love left for the game. i barely open it these days. not that i really can anymore after the nvidia updates loool but. i just miss writing a hot-tempered and volatile character with overwhelming empathy that burns into anger at the world
