Got into Wings of FIre via the comics, and my brain decided that it would be a great idea to develop some fan OCs while I tried the books. Which then spawned a bunch of sketches below, a whole ass comic that just needs to be scanned, and who knows what from there.
Tumblr media
I don't even know why these two are living in my head. They just are. In the meantime, here's some profiles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
General stuff that applies to both (tw for mentioned suicide attempt):
Duckweed picked up Pebble to be his pet. He always wanted one (a pet. Not a scavenger. That was just luck) and felt more comfortable bonding with an animal than a dragon.
Despite actually picking up some Dragon on his own, Duckweed didn't realize that Pebble was sapient until he tried to kill himself.
They don't become friends right away even after that revelation...
...But once they do, they end up getting along like birds of a feather.
Pebble sometimes rides in one of Duckweed's bags. One becomes dedicated to his stuff.
Duckweed enjoys all kinds of art, but his favorite is the theatre. Pebble doesn't see the attraction.
Together, they'll go on a road trip across Pyrrhia, see the sights, take in the diverse cultures, lose their souls, learn a new language (mostly in Pebble's case), saving a family, healing, and accidentally commit murder. Not in that order.

Counting stars by OneRepublic
Illustration with young Stargazer, plus origins of her name~ Once again a long piece of text under the cut! It dwels into Stargazer's doubts about the future and her determination to live as a dragon she always wanted to be
There was a young nightwing dragoness, fleeing from her old life in the dead of night. She didn't really knew, where exactly she was going, but she most certainly didn't wanted to blow her chance for a better future. Family will do just fine without their rebellious “son”, who is not interested in the future they prepared for “him,” but friends... Big changes don't come without sacrifice, even if you have to leave behind the only dragons who believed in you and saw you for who you really was. She dreamed about this day most of her life, she couldn't have possibly made a mistake, throwing everything away... right? Oh no. ...What was she even thinking? She couldn't become a healer on her own. Where would she even learn? Is there any good healers in other kingdoms? She was fortunate enough to hatch into the smartest tribe of all, how she could possibly get a fine knowledge without them? She had a decent enough life with a foreseeable future, even if she hated it, and now she was, a disgrace, all alone somewhere on the continent - no friends, no stability and even no name! Well, last one wasn't that regrettable. She thought about changing it for a long time, it was stupid anyway and didn't fit her at all. Besides, new name would complicate the search, when her absence will eventually be noticed. She raised her head slowly, uncertain about her next steps, when she suddenly froze. Stars. Countless lights framed the dark sky, shining brighter than the silver scales under the wings of the most beautiful nightwing. During the long flight, she was too focused on her thoughts and the landscape below to notice the splendor spread out above, and now dragoness stood, soaking up the moonlight and the cool night air with every inch of her body. Somehow, she felt a sense of calm, as her doubts started to fade just a little bit. She would never saw the real stars if she stayed. What else awaits her beyond the ash-covered island? Besides, now she knows, how she wants to be called.
Some backstory for the grumpy healer) Stargazer was a very ambitious dreamer in her youth, and even now, despite her feigned cynicism, deep down she remains the same, espetially sinse she became very confident and comfortable in her skin over the years. She hasn't visited either her family or her home island since leaving and does not plan to do so in the future, but she occasionally remembers her old friends, although she does not believe that she will ever meet them again - after all, several decades have passed.
Stargazer transitioned only socialy; I also had an idea that she was most likely training to sound more feminine (she experimented herself and learned from other transgender dragons/entertainers - before joining the Scavengers, she traveled a lot).

I created a WoF OC bingo chart! Because I've managed a ton of WoF RPs and I've picked up on a looot of patterns. Feel free to use this!
Not making fun of any of these tropes!! My own characters fall into a lot of these as well. Look what happened when I tried this out with Alias:

~Wings of Fire: A Forgotten Prophecy~
Tumblr media
◇The DOD & Riders pendants◇
Lore:
Years ago, a Crystalwing by the name of Alexandrite created twelve gemstones to be embedded into pendants after Cottonmouth wreaked havoc on the dragon's world.
Which brought forth Shadowseer, Phoniex, Armadillo, Mire, and Current to bring peace between Scavengers and Dragonkind— meanwhile on their journeys, though, they find out that Icebreaker has been keeping a world-changing secret from them... the bond between Dragon and Scavenger...
Which also caused Alexandrite to make the Rider's pendants.
This is very messy I know, but lately, I've been working on a WOF AU where the Dragonet Prophecy wasn't made up by Morrowseer— and was a real phenomenon within the Nightwing tribe where if disaster strikes, the dragonets are here.
More info I guess:
The pendants can grant the wearer supernatural abilities not present in their tribe. (That's pretty much it)
The Riders pendants are heavily based on this—

A Tale of the Scorching
In the distant past...
Before the dragons took over...
Ancient humans roamed free upon the land...
They had massive kingdoms and built a paradise for themselves with their skill and ingenuity.
But in their greed, humans had taken too much from the land...
and stole from the dragons, leaving a path of destruction in their wake.
Until one day, the world was set ablaze...
In an act of vengeance, the dragons brought their fury upon the ancient humans...
and scorched the land leaving none to survive their unending wrath.
The ancient humans, unable to defend themselves from their own retribution...
were forced to flee to the safety of the undergrounds...
and hide until their entire legacy was wiped away in the infernal cataclysm they had brought upon themselves.
When they finally returned to the surface...
the world no longer belonged to them.
The remaining humans, shattered and broken, struggled to survive against the dragons that now dominated the land.
But they persevered and survived...
for such a time that civilization would rise again from the ashes...
and they would once again stand on the surface without fear...
free from the threats of the dragons that now threatened them.
They rebuilt whats left of their old society...
And continued to thrive in the new realm dominated by the dragons...
Hoping for the day they can finally return to the surface...
And roam free as their ancestors did before them...

Today in: Wings of Fire headcanons made to work with my oc even though the canon is different:
The Skywing Arena is used for whatever the Queen wishes, not just for fighting. Queen Firestorm used it for art and beauty shows. Queen Scarlet uses it for fighting, and Queen Ruby uses it for a hospital.
While the Sky kingdom is big, most Skywings live close to the palace. All eggs are hatched in the palace hatchery, and all dragonets are raised in the wingery.
Skywings kill any dragonets with Fire scales or Animus magic out of fear that said dragon will grow up to kill everyone, although this law is changing with Queen Ruby. The parents of said dragonets would never have anymore dragonets. They did not kill the dragonet with too little fire until Queen Scarlet's time.
Skywings believe in offering their dead to the sky for seven days before being burned, so that the dead dragon reincarnates as a Skywing and not any other kind of dragon.
Skywings are very religious and have a preists who have a lot of power. There is a priest in each town and a high priest who is second only to the queen. The priests are chosen by the previous priests and receive ten years of training. The priests not only conduct religious rites, but are also judges, healers, scholars and teachers, and mediators between arguing dragons and towns. The priest is always female and unlike Sandwing priestess, can get married.
In the past, before Queen Firestorm’s time, The Skywings had a ceremony called the Clash of Claws tournament. Every seven years, Skywings across the kingdom appeared from across the kingdom to compete in seven challenges over seven days. The first day is Flame, all qualities are tested, the next is Endurance, a token is left on top of the tallest mountain in the kingdom, and the contestants must race to find it starting from the palace. This tests speed, stamina, and resistance to the cold. The third test is strength, Skywings lift heavy boulders from the Diamond Spray River, fly as high as they can, and throw the boulder as far as they can. The fourth test is cunning, elaborate mazes are constructed with secret rooms filled with treasure, the competitors must find this treasure while avoiding the traps, the winner finds the most treasure. Five is the test of Guile, find a scavenger, the most cunning of prey, and bring it back alive and unharmed. Sixth is the test of Wit, each competitor must correctly answer a series of riddles made by the Queen and her advisors. Seventh is a test of speed, a race to see who is the fastest Skywing.
Skywings can either choose a partner or go through a program to be matched up by the queen. Skywing marriages were traditionally two dragons saying a few ritual words in the sky, with no other dragon around. After Queen Scarlet took the throne, she made all weddings celebrations and all celebrations with deadly gladiator battles, so Skywings stopped getting married. The Skywings didn’t want Scarlet to partner them, so most Skywings stopped partnering up instead.
While Noble Skywings don’t put much value into family, the more commoner Skywings do and are often close to each other even after moving out.
Neither common nor noble Skywings are very romantic and marriages are mostly for lineage and dragonets
@wof-reworked had a Skywing headcanon that each Skywing family had a particular naming system, like all being named after different types of birds. The dragonets are named using the mother’s family’s naming system.
Skywings are one of the more religious tribes, so their schools’ teachings include the Skywing religious beliefs and legends.
Skywings mostly marry for dragonets and political reasons in the case of nobility, so they are generally not interested in romance as a tribe. However, they are very close to their friends in a way that more romantic tribes like the Seawings and Sandwings mistake as romance.
Skywings tend to be close to each other, despite the size of the Kingdom, as all Skywings are raised in the Wingery until age 2, and all Skywing dragonets must go to the Sky palace between the ages of 4 and 8 for battle training.
Since the Sky Kingdom is so big, every town has its own noble family that reports back to the queen. The leader of these noble houses is picked out by the old leader on their death bed, instead of fighting to the death like queens do. The leader is also always female.
