shout out to @lix88888 for reminding me this au existed and making me brainrot for days (i dont blame u, lix) (i do blame u lix /j /lh)
@stargazeraldroth somehow my brain got led astray and im thinking about Error getting his wings in your Winged!Guardians AU. He wasn't born as Error, he was Geno first, right?
So he would've gotten his wings the same time he started glitching out in the Anti-void. I don't know much about the process of baby bats growing their wings but for whump potential im going to say it isn't pleasant.
imagine Geno slowly realising his back hurts, and almost welcoming the pain as an escape from the cold, empty, hollow void. imagine him picking at the mass of budding wings, pulling a little, the pain keeping him sane in this terrible place driving him so close to insanity.
but the pain keeps coming. it keeps getting worse. it grows, and grows, until once day Geno is practically consumed by it. it happens slowly, so he doesn't notice; just as it is with his glitches. and it's too much. it's so much. he forgets existence without the blinding pain consuming every inch of him. and his back, his back— (he doesn't sleep on his back ever. nothing is better than putting weight on his back. he forgets there's relief in pain. the pain becomes his consuming eternity. the pain takes the place of the emptiness.
His wings still grow. There's no one else to hear him screaming into the empty space.
when it's all over, Error opens his eyes.
(and maybe some part of him remembers when his back first started hurting. maybe some part of him remembers the small act(s) of destruction, and a larger part of him remembers the pleasure it once brought.
though he doesn't remember why.)

The scars on Pitch's back were thick, ragged things. Jack had never seen them before - he'd never seen the fallen without a robe of shadows draping from his shoulders. Exposed to him now, the angel couldn't help but shiver at the sight of the raised lines cutting from just above Pitch's shoulderblades to the curve of his lower back.
No one ever spoke of what it was like for an angel to fall, outside of the terrible truth that it meant the loss of your wings. Jack had assumed they must've lost their holy protection and burned up when descending permanently to the mortal plane. The scars before him now, however, had notches slicing out from its edge at odd angles. Marks from a blade, held by a hand that had forgotten how to be gentle.
"Did it hurt?"
Pitch turned, brow raised as he studied Jack where he lay on the bed.
When the vampire didn't respond right away, Jack clarified, "When you fell."
Understanding smoothed Pitch's brow, expression relaxing but no smile reaching his lips. He stepped back to the bed, perching gracefully at the edge. Shadow fell over Jack as the fallen leaned over him, bracing a hand on the feathers of Jack's wing where it spread over dark sheets.
"My sweet angel," Pitch cooed, eyes bright in the darkness. "You couldn't possibly comprehend that sort of agony. But..."
Heat grazed the angel's cheek. His eyes squeezed shut, the sting of a fang pushing against soft skin making him twitch. Weight settled heavy on his chest and wings, pinning him to the bed. Fangs touched his neck, and Pitch exhaled a pleased sigh.
"...you can learn."

Angel Neil, please and thank you.
WIP Wednesday (10/23) | Guardian Angel Neil AU (Part 247)
Andrew wasn't particularly in the mood to beat around any bushes today. He was in the mood to see divinity spread out across Neil's back. The angel doesn't shy away from Andrew's demand, instead he grins like a rogue and clicks his tongue.
"Yes sir." He says, and oh boy does that does things to Andrew he doesn't want to think about. Andrew waits with bated breath as Neil closes his eyes and rolls his shoulders a couple of times. In a flash they appear behind him, every bit as beautiful as the last time. Andrew stands there and stares, open-mouthed, as Neil's feathers ruffle with the breeze.
His wings are much bigger than Andrew had realized. Last time they'd been sitting down and Neil must've drawn his wings up, the way one can open and close their elbow joint. But Neil is standing now, they both are, and the feathers at the tips of his wings are nearly touching the ground. Oh. Andrew holds in a happy sigh. He's beautiful. Neil is beautiful and he's really here and it's not possible, but it's true.
He can barely find his voice to say, "Spread them out," but he manages to cough it up.
Neil complies, his wings stretching out on either side of them. Good god, his wingspan is longer than Andrew. Longer than both of them combined, Andrew thinks. At least ten feet, maybe twelve. And every inch of them is covered with gorgeous, straight, white feathers. They aren't glowing, not like the one downstairs. But they're almost iridescent, throwing tiny rainbows where the sunlight hits.
Neither of them says a word, Neil just stands there and lets Andrew ogle his wings. Andrew sincerely hopes this isn't weird for Neil, but he can't find it in him to care too much. Not when they're so fucking pretty. When Andrew asks, Neil closes his wings to spin around without whacking Andrew with them, then opens them up again. He watches Andrew over his shoulder, from the corner of his eye. And it feels like... something else.
But it isn't.
After a frankly concerning amount of time, Andrew realizes Neil's wings seem to come through the material of his hoodie. Is that magic or some sort of illusion?
"How do they connect to you?" Andrew asks after several minutes of trying to gather up the words. Neil gives a tiny huff of a laugh.
"Between my shoulder blades." Before Andrew can ask his next question, Neil nods. "Yes, they're really attached. They just don't care if I'm wearing a shirt or not. They just... go through somehow."
Before Andrew can think to ask, Neil is pulling his hoodie off over his head. And sure enough, his wings don't mind one bit. They seem to flicker as he pulls off his top. And then he's standing shirtless before Andrew, with his pretty white wings dragging the ground and scars on his back and—
Oh, he was right. Neil's wings start between his shoulder blades. The bases of his wings— which Andrew thinks should be called wing-stalks, for some reason— are about as big around as his wrist and covered with teensy-tiny downy feathers. They look fluffiest there, nearest Neil's skin.

Just had the sleep-deprived idea of combining my Cryptid Batfam Au with @phoenixcatch7 's Possessed Doll Au into a combo au, some distant timeline where the two combine and meld into one thing.
Honestly would be slightly body horror probably, maybe with Bruce starting with building wings and then it... escalates. There's a reason that people don't go down in the caves under Gotham, and Bruce is incredibly lucky that It welcomes him. Perhaps welcomes him too much, what with it seeming to build him another body each time he gets injured, even if it's just bruising. Not to mention that another is forming when he takes Dick in, and then another when Barbara joins them.
There's something not quite the same the first time he wakes up in a body that is his but not, something organic but not. Testing on it is fine, small tests that is, anything larger and his head starts to pound and ring. It's easier to just accept the shadows' gifts than question it.
Tumblr media
Honestly I like to think the body is something between inorganic and organic, like veins of flesh and fur wrapped around bones and metal. Like a flesh puppet of sorts, starts all skeletal and mostly metal and wood but the veins of black and red start to grow over time as the whispers about the Bat spread.
Honestly I also like to think it's more animalistic than the original possessed doll au, the wood easily mistaken for things like chitin, especially with the segmentations. Combine the chest cavity with the harness that the kids cling to, and you have a back cavity lol. The 'Spine' seemingly splitting open to hide things inside. Bruce probably does have clothing for the body, but I wanted to figure out the general body first lol.

Flying Gremlin
When @pixlokita first posted about her winged Gregory my immediate thought was I needed to have Guardian Angel Mike meet or interact with him in some way. When Pix mentioned Gregory couldn’t actually fly, I knew what I had to do.

Gray Wing in Starclan trying to get through to his brother: you messed up, but you can still be great! You just have to get over this desire to rule over everyone
Clear Sky to the rest of the clans: Just got word from my sibling, xey said I’m still great and you all are messed up for not letting me rule over everyone
Gray Wing: "okay its fine, ok, tossing his brother out was h-horrible and everyone letting it happen makes it worse but its fine its fine ill just send down his kitten with a missing leg and THAT'LL teach them that they're not acting on our wishes--"
Clear Sky: "PUT THAT THING BACK WHERE IT CAME FROM, OR SO HELP ME-"

Wings of Rain post! I just grabbed the follower list for this one.
A Guardian is nothing more than a mechanically enhanced dragon, able to withstand much more wear and tear than your normal dragon could dream of.
When a dragon is selected to become a guardian, assuming they pass the required trials, they are gifted two main changes to their body: One, they are taken to an animus-enchanted object that gifts guardians bodies to no longer fall to time. Each structure has an object with such an enchantment, usually something that represents the tribe as a whole and is safely guarded. The enchantment only allows it to work on soon-to-be guardians, anyway.
The second main change is that their scales are replaced with some high-quality metal plating that perfectly reflects what their scales were. The metal is chosen and suited on a guardian-by-guardian basis, since some need it to be waterproof, fire resistant, stronger, more malleable, etc. (For example, Lilypuck's is mostly made of Stainless Steel since it needed to not rust in water, Garnet's has tungsten for a high heat tolerance since he breathes fire, etc) The dragons are usually induced into a coma-like state with sleepflowers and smokeberries, or other plants and animals, so that the process is smooth and painless.

Guardians are also usually given gifts of treasure, money, food, and accessories by the Wing as a congratulations and a thanks for their job, but they are also given one important gift from the royal family: Their helmet.
The helmets are many things, mainly a status symbol and a device of protection for their eyes, one of the most vulnerable parts of a guardian's body. When guardians are appointed, they are allowed to paint their symbol onto their helmet, which them goes on record as their official symbol. They may also choose what they want the arching antennae to look like, if they want any at all.
The glass screens of the helmets retract on command, if for whatever reason the guardians need the screens out of the way quickly (since taking the helmet off takes some time).
* * * * * * * * * * * * *
The process of becoming a Guardian is long and can be tedious to some. Not everyone is fit for the process, and only the strong can truly stand the life of eternal violence and bloodshed.
It starts when the guardian apprentice moves up to the guardian role to fill the void the previous one left. Then, one of the normal dragon guards in charge of monitoring who comes in and out is selected for special training to become the next guardian apprentice. Before this training even starts, they are given a health inspection to make sure they can handle everything, and while they are given a choice, it's heavily frowned upon to say no to the position.
Once a new guardian apprentice is made, their training begins with the current guardian, teaching them how scavengers and slugcats think, act, fight, and live. Some adventures include trips to the land below the clouds to see them firsthand, but most days are sparring with the guardian or getting lectured by them.
Common teaching topics are: Spotting small movements from afar, Aiming at a distance, The pack habits of scavengers, and how to abuse the fragile alliance scavengers and slugcats have.
One of the highest privileges of a Guardian Apprentice, however, is that they have a similar standing socially to a Guardian without any of the responsibility, meaning they are showered with gifts, attention, praise, and hopes.
They are also some of the few dragons allowed to interact with Guardians of other Wings, discussing topics such as battle tactics, news about raids, and the health of each other. It's seen as important to let apprentices meet each other and form strong bonds, as it's a very real chance they will need to help each other as full-fledged guardians.
Sometimes, more than one apprentice is appointed, and for some tribes more than one is customary.
As the apprentices learn and grow alongside their mentors and develop friendships with the other guardians and apprentices, there eventually comes a time when the previous guardian dies or disappears in battle. When this happens, the apprentice(s) is given one last health check, to ensure that they're able to go through with the process. If there are more than one, they take the healthiest and most willing participant. If there are no suitable apprentices, they still take the best out of them and spend extra time boosting them mechanically.
The enhancing process begins with the soon-to-be guardian approaching the animus-enchanted object to gift them with the stronger bodies that won't tire to time, and they are given a day and night to think about what they want their helmet and symbol to look like. After that time, they describe it to a scribe, check the sketches over to make sure it's the way they want, and send it off while they themselves are sent to have their scales replaced.
The process of the scale replacing is long, delicate, and requires a dedicated team of dragons who spend their lives doing this kind of work. While animus magic shapes the metal for them, they don't always have an animus to replace the scales, which sometimes means carefully removing each scale and fitting the metal in it's place, then using enchanted bandages to make sure everything heals properly and as intended.
After a few days of rest, the Guardians are taken to the royal family who present them with their helmet, and they are instructed to put it on to conduct the official ceremony, a process where the guardian swears loyalty, defense at the cost of their life, and to train the next apprentice the same efficiency they were trained with.
The whole process takes around a moon to complete, during which time the guards of the structure are to defend from any incoming raids.
The Guardian is given a year or two to adjust to their new life before they are given new apprentices, and it all starts over again.

Did Raven Beak raise Samus for her whole childhood in this AU? Forgive me if you’ve answered this already, I haven’t scrolled through your blog in a while
Nope: he has had minimal contact with her up until his arrest. They're learning more about each other and their respective cultures each day.
I have a few ideas for some strips in a universe where he takes on a bit of a more active role in her childhood ("how would this have gone" and the like), but none of them have hit the Internet just yet, and they're not part of Winging It's continuity.

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time with your wips this week. I would still like to request more angel Neil but like no pressure
WIP Wednesday (2/28) | Guardian Angel Neil AU (Part 124)
“How would you fire an angel, I wonder.” Andrew thinks aloud. Would ‘God’ do it? Or have one of his underlings handle it? Are there angel unions?
“Why? You looking to get rid of me?” Neil asks, feathers ruffled at the idea.
“No.” Andrew rolls his eyes. Never. “I was just making conversation, idiot.”
Neil nods, deep in contemplation. “I’ve never heard of an angel getting the boot. But I know that they can fall.”
“What does that mean?” Andrew asks. He already has a good idea, since he unfortunately has a basic understanding of Christianity, but he wants Neil’s version.
“It’s when an angel’s wings get ripped off and they get sent to hell. And I think they turn into demons.” Neil says, chewing on his cuticle. “Maybe.”
“Ouchie.”
“Ouchie indeed.” Neil says, his shoulders raising to his ears. That brings another question.
“What do wings feel like? Is it like having extra arms on your back?”
“Not really. They’re completely different. I can’t describe it. They’re heavy, but not as heavy as you’d think. And I obviously can’t see my back, but from feeling I think they’re attached between my shoulder blades. Moving them is easy. It’s sort of like raising your arms but… I think I have some sort of special wing muscles or something.”
“Huh.” Andrew says before another silence falls over them both. Normally he would be asking Neil to pop ‘em out so he could check for himself. But he can’t, not when he’s just found out Neil is real. Touching his wings might lead to… Something else and Andrew knows neither of them is ready for that. Hell, Neil might not even be remotely interested in that.
And there's something about Neil that Andrew can’t shake. Since he’s real, that means he’s actually a guardian angel. Andrew’s guardian angel. And that must mean Andrew needs to be protected from something. But all his demons are an entire country away. It doesn’t make sense. Unless there’s some problem Andrew can’t see yet. He wonders if Neil has future vision or some other sense for this kind of thing.
