NANCY WHEELER DETAIL OF THE DAY #10

Today is all about the internal battle between a great warrior and a small child. Nancy was forced to let go of her childhood in Season 1, however, brute forcing her way into adulthood just doesn't work. And it's interesting how, in the moments where she's shown to be tough and adult, that's when the show compares her to a child.

This is literally an entire character essay. Like, it's longer than a few of my fics. But there's pictures!

In Season 1 Episode 8, Hopper, while interrogated by the Lab, says "you made it look like that little girl just ran away". He's referring to Barb, who is actually older than Nancy, implying he'd see Nancy as a little girl, too. It's a big contrast to how she's usually portrayed during season 1, from Mike's perspective she's the older bratty annoying sister, and from Nancy's she's maturing into a young woman. But from an actual adult's point of view, she's a little girl.

Meanwhile, what's Nancy doing while Hopper calls her this? She's saving his ass. She tells Jonathan that Hopper and Joyce will die in the Upside Down if they don't do something, and steal the weapons back from Hopper's office.

In Season 2 Episode 9, she saves Joyce (the adult) by stabbing Will (the child) with a fire poker

In Season 3 it's very clear that she's on the path to becoming an adult, with an internship at the local paper, and a huge desire to write a story for them, despite the fact she's only a teenage intern. When it all blows up in her face, she tries to argue her case to her boss. But after it doesn't work out, and she gets fired, and then fights with Jonathan, she goes to her mom for comfort.

During the conversation, Nancy says she's "Just a kid who has no idea what she's doing"

It's funny, how in the season where she's arguably trying the hardest to be an adult, she is more often than not the child of the situation. In Season 3 Episode 6, when confronted by the Flesh Monster, she's basically helpless to it. It's a position we rarely see Nancy in, and in the end, it's Eleven (the child) who saves her. This happens again, during the cabin battle. While Nancy saves Jonathan, it's Eleven who saves Nancy.

There's also blatant comparisons to herself and Holly in this season. When Karen takes Holly to the pool, she plays Marco Polo with her friends, a game Nancy "plays" with Bruce right before she kills him.

Not only that but herself and Holly are the only people to notice the there was something in the woods, without someone else pointing it out to them. Holly, in both of these cases, is first. She plays Marco Polo before Nancy, she notices the trees before Nancy. Nancy is unintentionally copying her.

This one is subtle and probably unintentional, but when Billy comes at her with a speeding car, she leans towards the kids, not Jonathan.

In Season 4 we immediately start the season with Nancy ruling over the high school newspaper with an iron fist. She's finally got a leadership position, and it's clear she takes it very seriously. That being said, when given the choice between working or playing with a puppy, she chooses the puppy.

As well as that, when she talks to Wayne, she tells him "the paper I write for is small", intentionally leaving out the fact that it's a high school paper. When Wayne begins to talk about Victor Creel, he says "I guess you're too young [to remember]". And when Fred's missing and she goes to the cop, he says "I told you kids to stay home."

Just like with Hopper, it's another case of Nancy play-acting as the adult, while the actual adult in the situation still sees her as a child.

In Episode 4, when Steve complains about babysitting, Nancy says "they're not babies anymore". While it is true in the sense that high schoolers don't need babysitting, it is interesting that Nancy specifically calls him out for that. The kids are almost the same age Nancy was at the start of all of this, and in her mind she's 'growing them up' in the same way she grew herself up at that age. However, at the end of the season, she thanks Jonathan for looking after Mike, showing that deep down, she doesn't actually believe they're completely independent and not in need of babysitting.

In Episode 4 Nancy very carefully crafts her persona for going to Pennhurst, she ages herself up to be a college student, creates a resume for herself, and dresses herself in a way she deems 'academic'. I like Robin's line where she sees the outfits as "Easter Brunch" outfits, because it does remind me of the outfits little kids are made to wear on Easter, which clearly wasn't Nancy's intention.

Despite given herself a completely new identity, an older and more mature one, in her eyes. It's the name that actually reveals her true self. She picks the name Ruth as a reference to a children's book, Swallows and Amazons. In the book, the character - who is usually called Nancy - reveals her name used to be Ruth. She changed it, as she wanted to be a pirate, and pirates are ruthless.

In Nancy's case she does the opposite, instead of being 'ruthless', she's Ruth. Despite hamming up her achievements, and her age, her own name is telling us she's still a child, without the tough exterior she displays to the world.

There's more comparisons between herself and Holly in this season, too. Protecting Holly from the world, by telling Dustin to stop talking about Freddy Kruger. And when in the Upside Down, she uses Holly's Lite Brite to communicate with Dustin. It's interesting how the past two seasons have included multiple parallels between her and her younger sister when you consider Holly's role in the upcoming season. It feels like they might be slowly ramping up to something.

When Nancy is, once again, helpless to Vecna, it's the youngest of the group, Erica, who urges everyone to hurry up and save her.

Not only that, but as Nancy leads the charge into the Creel House for the final battle, it's technically Erica who's pulling the strings, instructing her on when to go. Just like Eleven in Season 3, it's another case of a child protecting Nancy.

When the gate opens, we see Karen running to protect Holly, while Nancy is left clinging to a banister on her own. It shows why she's had to grow up against her will, no one else is really there to protect her when things get rough.

Finally, when looking at her childhood toy, Mr. Rabbit, she decides to give it away. The sad look on her face is clear, and reminds me of watching Henry kill the rabbit in her vision.

There is a bonus instance, although it's not technically canon. In the Stranger Things comic 'The Other Side', when Nancy is in the Upside Down in Season 1, Will throws a rock near the Demogorgon stalking her, luring it away from Nancy, and sacrificing his own opportunity to crawl back through the gate and saving Nancy instead. Another case of a child saving her when she can't save herself. In fact, almost every single time Nancy has been unable to fight for herself, it's been a child who has saved her.

Something that’s become apparent to me as I’ve posted more frequently on Ao3 is just how disheartening it can be to feel like I’m performing for a silent crowd.

Dgmw, it is very much that I am just a sensitive & insecure person by nature. (I’m incredibly embarrassed abt posting this, but again, just venting.) And its not that I’m trying to directly beg for ppl to read and comment on my works, but I am sort of…indirectly doing that.

I just can’t help but feel a bit like ‘what am I doing wrong?’ I’ve both intentionally and unintentionally written a decently wide verity of fanfics for Kuro, whether it’s shorter oneshots or longer multi chapter fics, as well as tonally with things being funny, sad, mysterious, contemplative. I try and pay attention to what gets the most interaction so that I know what people are most interested in reading. But even with doing that, I can’t really tell. Like I want to write stuff that people enjoy reading, but it sometimes feels impossible to tell if I’m doing that.

(Pls excuse me, I’m about to start very much complaining)

I don’t even know why I tend to feel that way, I’ve got six stories posted and half have over 1000 hits (two that are over 2000 hits). But again, I’m a horrifically insecure person with an adhd brain that never shuts up.

I know that I’m doing nothing but preaching to the choir when I say ‘authors really want you to comment on their works!!’ And it’s not that I don’t ever get comments (and I swear that I am extremely thankful for each one despite how what I’m about to say sounds), but I just feel like the nature of them is what gets to me sometimes.

I put a lot of time and effort into my stories (despite how quickly I’ve been updating), and I work really hard to write things that are well thought out, interesting, and while I don’t write smut (as of now), mature. I’ll look in other stories comment sections to see what other ppl have said about works that I’ve enjoyed, and I’ll see questions and commentary about specific things that happened in the chapter, and my works just…don’t tend to get a lot of that.

It could very well just be that my neurodivergent brain is upset about not getting that instant gratification, I get that. But I just wanna like- talk to people about my stories. I wanna have discussions about things in Kuro or things that I’ve written. I wanna hear when something I’ve created has garnered any sort of reaction. And because I don’t get a lot of that, my cursed neurodivergent and insecure brain translates it as meaning that I didn’t truly make anything that warranted a reaction.

I’m just incredibly prone to growing obsessive over things like this. I didn’t really ease into writing fanfiction over time, I sort of just hit the ground running and took off. For reference, I quite literally wrote all of my stories (a collective 146,000 words (I added it up cus I was curious)) in JUST this past year.

I’m kinda not sure what I should do. If I need to “work harder” and “do better”, or if I just need to wait for this influx of self doubt to pass. Or even take a small break from writing, which I don’t necessarily want to do since it’s still something that I greatly enjoy. But if that’s advice worth giving in regards to my predicament, then I suppose it warrants being considered.

(inhale) BUT ANYWAYS, that’s the end of my little vent session. As I said in the beginning, feel free to disregard, or don’t. I could probably use some advice tbh, but don’t want to beg for it. I haven’t had much of an active presence in fandom spaces (or really just active internet presence) for most of my life, so dealing with this sort of thing is still very new to me and I’m not really sure how to navigate it😭.

saw the cat person movie with @drdemonprince last night, a truly national event, and while definitely like, artistically and craft-wise a bad movie, it was a treat for a couple people who did not like the short story at all - the interesting, charming, and intriguing things about it, though absolutely not done on purpose, really underscored the dysphoria between the reader reaction to the short story itself and the reality of the writing (bad)

1 - the short story came out in 2017! I'd only been in chicago for 10 months! truly this was a geological age ago.

2 - the twitter discourse on the publication of this short story was more encompassing and wild than the short story itself. people compared it to "the lottery". people called it "the first viral short story". people called it haunting and twisted and nasty and trenchant and intense. the extreme blurbage really set it up for a vaster failure to me specifically (the only opinion that truly matters) when I read it and thought it was like, a kind of dull story with listless characters.

3 - short stories have been adapted before! Frank Perry did The Swimmer back in the sixties! He had Burt Lancaster! (don't know where I was going with this - I think was going to say an actually literally wise director can adapt cleverly from brief material, but then I remembered I have not actually watched The Swimmer yet and probably shouldn't say that in good faith)

4 - so anyway - and once again, I think this was absolutely done unintentionally, so not 'good' per say - Cat Person The Movie portrays yes, the text of the short story, but due to both the deficiencies in the text and the deficiencies of the filmmakers, forces itself to literally play out the fantasies of the mass reader reception, fantasies that arguably swallowed the actual short story itself - that this was a chilling portrayal of modern dating/war of the sexes/misogyny/male violence, etc.

5 - I believe these fantasies happened because, 1, a lot of people aren't textually very wise. it is truly fandom bullshit. people have an intense emotion from deficient text or content and then start squeezing blood from stone and things snowball from there

6 - while, once again, I say, the movie most definitely not doing this shit intentionally, it had enough awareness for the usual tongue-in-cheek stuff, not because this was "the good thing to do craft-wise" but because tongue-in-cheek awareness is de rigueur these days, and because the adaptors, though maybe not craft geniuses, have the pragmaticism of Movie/Film People and were like "we absolutely do not have enough shit to go off on" and, again unintentionally, squeezed blood from stone just like the readers from yesteryears and managed to beautifully mimic the mass delusion that surrounded, again, this fucking bad and boring short story and managed to bring some actual violence to the table

7 - due to the fact that this is a Film with Actors and had Moving Visual Images, it benefited from like, you know, some of the actors being charming and kind of funny

8 - the story came out, again, in 2017, the stone ages, and modern dating and the twitter lit scene has gone through several more geological cycles since then, so the whole thing felt just a little old fashioned. the salad days!

9 - the ending close up on Margot's shit-im-nutting face when the second guy asks her out at the movie theater is such a fucking funny choice and departure on the og story, that this girl is now addicted to the rush of thinking every dude she dates is going to stalk/kill/drug her - (and she's correct! robert was, apparently, willing or contemplating to do two out of three of those things! but also - maybe she's crazy too and, you know, kind of deserves it?) like, such a hysterical and cynical choice, masterstroke.

10 - bad story! (no stars)

11 - bad movie! (five stars, would see again, love and light to all)

The God and the Gumiho review

5/5 stars Recommended if you like: fantasy, mythology, Korean mythology, multiple POVs, enemies to lovers, mystery

This was definitely one of my favorite reads of February! It's got the perfect blend of magic, shenanigans, scheming, enemies-to-lovers, and humor. I was definitely on the edge of my seat as Hani and Seokga searched for the eoduksini, and while they got closer to one another with Hani still hiding her identity.

I definitely thought the worldbuilding was interesting. Most of the time is spent on a world where humans and immortals exist side-by-side, with the former completely unaware. So the characters have normal, everyday things like coffee, cars, and cellphones, but also have more magical items like swords and charms, and come across humans and magical creatures alike. I also liked the details about items the magical community could by from the store, particularly the non-human-liver alternatives the gumiho eat since Hani's Scarlet Fox spree resulted in the banning of eating human livers and souls. It's a small part of the book, but I thought it was a nice touch.

I absolutely love Hani. Her hidden past as the Scarlet Fox means she's notorious in immortal circles and not only is responsible for the ban on gumiho eating human livers and souls, but is also the gumiho with the highest kill count. Despite this, she's actually pretty normal and down to earth. She's also pretty funny, both intentionally and unintentionally, and I liked her blasé attitude about eating livers (and thus killing people). Hani clearly cares deeply and while she's dedicated to misguiding Seokga in regards to his Scarlet Fox investigation, she earnestly wants to help find and defeat the eoduksini. She also strives to help her friend Somi throughout the book and feels responsible over the younger gumiho.

Seokga, on the other hand, is a complete and utter asshole. But he grows on you. The trickster god is still bitter about being thrown out of the godly world and having his own realm of darkness locked up after his attempted coup. It's unclear how much of his personality is residual from that and how much is just him naturally, but Seokga really does not seem to care about anyone, nor very many things (other than coffee, man is particular about his coffee) prior to the events of the book. That being said, it becomes clear that Seokga does have deeper ties to his exiled life than it seems, and even he comes to the realization that there are some people that he cares about. It's easy to forget that Seokga was a trickster god because he's fairly serious and dedicated to his investigation(s), but it shows up in odd moments, such as when he cheats at rock, paper, scissors. Despite the fact that he's an asshole, Seokga does have a certain charm about him, even before he begins being a more...tolerable person.

The romance is, obviously, between Hani and Seokga. They balance each other out pretty well once they get past their barista-customer annoyance. Seokga is able to play 'bad cop' with ease while Hani is a much more soothing figure and the type who can calm crying witnesses enough to give a cohesive statement. I liked seeing the quirks they brought out in each other and am glad they get their chance at a happy ending.

The whole Scarlet Fox thing really is a mess. Hani was just enacting a kind of vigilante justice when she got the bright idea to take their livers as a treat for a friend. Unfortunately, the killings align too much with her 1888 spree and whaddya know suddenly there's a hunt on for the Scarlet Fox. Hani definitely does not want to get caught, and she definitely doesn't want another gumiho taking the fall in her place, she'd rather the whole thing just fizzle out and get written off as a fluke, and she's willing to attach herself to the investigation, and thus her least favorite customer Seokga, in order to achieve that. While there were some tense moments when I was worried about her getting caught, it was humorous to read about Hani doing her best to thwart Seogka's investigation and coming up with absurdities to get it done.

The eoduksini is the more serious of the two, particularly since the eoduksini has the potential to create a dark world in the realm shared by humans and immortals, something no one wants happening. There are a lot of twists and turns in this part of the investigation and I was definitely trying to work it out myself as the characters were. At times I felt confident I knew who it was, and then something new would happen and I would second-guess myself or Seokga and Hani. I was very invested in finding out who the eoduksini was and seeing how things would play out there.

Overall I greatly enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it to fantasy lovers. Seokga and Hani are pretty different but each bring humor to the novel and the two of them fit well together. I thought the worldbuilding was pretty interesting and I enjoyed getting to know the world and the magic within it.

Why Im Over MissBanshee....Finally

Since my last blogpost,MissBanshee went ahead and made a horrendes "hang Approach out to dry",camoed as a "adressing the situation". Where she without any sort of proof,tossed at me personality traits as a Stalker,a Weirdo and a Creep.

Like Theo Von said when a prostitute called him a pervert and a creep: "Well,im defintly not a creep!".

Stalking? Make it make sence that someone who has been deeply in love with you daily going on the 6th month and therefor for almost half a year fully,overnight turns into a stalker???? It doesnt make any fucking sence,from one day being sweet love and someone neither can get enough of,to the other day: fucking weirdo,fucking creep,fucking stalker!!! (Your own words on a stream!)

None of my friends who looks at us both as friends,or at least tries to look at the entire situation as objectively as possible,states that you have no reason to call a super recent boyfriend turned ex by you,a stalker/weirdo/creep.

Again,i adressed this in a Twitter article,how i have withnessed own female family members getting new IDs and a new location to live,top secret,to be protected against stalkers. They wanted the individual both mental and physical harm. I could NEVER hurt YOU intentionally! You know this better then anyone else,you said so yourself countless of times: "you dont have a bad bone in your body".

If i unintentionally hurt you,then i will fall to my knees and apologize the very moment i become aware! Well,if you let me that is......and i have proven this time and time again,its all in our endless amount of discord conversations over these almost full 6 months.

You also called me a creep? Only creep im looking at myself as in between,is when i listen to Radioheads song Creep.

Whatever you thought you had on me,to legitimize hanging me out to dry as all that,you DONT! But you did it anyway,wich proves to me not just that i invested alot more into our relationship,but you also dont feel anything for me.

You had a chance to highlight my good sides too over 2 fucking hours of hanging me out to dry,where you indirectly at first encouraged people to attack my twitter,and people in your own community to make up wild stories about me being married to children (one of your new mods btw),while the other sugardaddy Mod took things completely out of context,to show theyr true fucking colours!

And other people you said you disliked personally,and hadnt even been in your streams in forever,all of a sudden were there talking massive smack about me.

And yes,someone that is being shut out of someones life they have literally lived for the last half year,will be searching up streams to see how you cope with the breakup yourself,if you mention them at all for some closure,if anything. I would find it really fucking cold and unusual if someones partner DIDNT look up theyr partner in a similar situation.

I admit,my amount of text at certain social medias was abit too much,ideally speaking. But i was desperate for some answers,some closure so i knew what the fuck was happening,and quite frankly....had you answered me,put some effort yourself into the mix,alot of what you reacted so badly upon would never have been mentioned. I know this,and you know this.

Makes me wonder how much your mom really did read,if she was of such a bombastic impression of me. Didnt bother to tell her how i actually treated you day in and day out,for almost full half year hah?

Figures...... it seems to be an ongoing thing with you,while my whole idea was to also highlight your good sides and abilities wich i love.....or loved. Because they are now just imagination to me......never real. Something you can thank yourself for......

I have never mistreated anyone like you described on your "hang out Approach" stream. Funny that i should start with you,when it all has been explained with me being exhausted (no sleep),pain wich also resulted in deep depression,dumb reversed psychology was also in the mix,plus i was already upset over the latest neglect.

Blame me for waiting and waiting,staring at the wall,then back on discord,starting to do other stuff while waiting,as i thought your internet really was out for soo long,only to find you in a lobby with the same people you claimed to me that you had told: "Only me and my mans are gonna hang out this weekend!" Then i get a screenshot sent of you saying to Megyhs that youre gonna do "a tactical death and give Megyhs your twitch". Thats when i really got scared of losing you,and i became even more desperate of getting you to talk to me!

CANT YOU SEE IT???!!!!!! *Smacks my own head real hard* If you only used your head for a tiny bit,instead of being soo stuck up in your own onesided imagination of me all of a sudden.

We both went into our relationship knowing about us both having mental health issues. I treated you and that fact with the outmost respect! I only stomped abit in the salad 1 time over a half a year period,and i have not stopped punishing me over going on 2 weeks straight now,for that massive blunder.

I should have never talked to you that morning,how harsh it sounds i should have made sure that i was more lightheaded first.

But now knowing how you are not only on another guy already,but you do the exact same things together in discord that we used to do etc,makes it obvious to be soo much more then just a joke that your excuse was on the "hang out Approach" stream.

Its like you defintly had this planned. You even did a full 180 on the emotes we spent so much time planning,only thing you kept was your Stitch theme. Everything else you got wrid of real fast.

Yeah....you were never as invested in the relationship as i was.

Only reason im able to write this,is because i actually tried to eat something for the first time in probably a week+s time,and unfortunately i threw it up again,im really messed up over this.....

Because of the vomiting i started shaking uncontrollably,it got soo massive that i thought my heart was gonna stop,then i blacked out (my whole body was shaking uncontrollably) I was exhausted....

I came to myself with a pounding headache,and a back that had locked itself,also being in pain. Yeah,this is the "creep,weirdo and stalker" you described alright....

You know creepers and stalkers shut off theyr emotions pretty well right,as they often got some fucked up mental illnes thing too? They dont care as warmly and passionate about theyr loved one,as i did with you.

Are you proud of yourself now,MissBanshee__? Will you tell your mom that you were in your wrongs to cast these personality traits on me? Nah,i think you thrive being in your position right now.

Interesting how your new sugardaddy is donating all over the place now,to kiss ass and get connections,it all seems very fake. It all sounded soo easy in my head.....then that morning came,and i wasnt myself at all.

But you didnt exactly help.....when you saw me in that state of mind,you should have said "Babe,i love you!" or "Babe,are you okay?".

Those works as "pings" in my head,i manage to shift focus/break out of the pattern and by focusing on you still loving me,i will also focus on giving you my love. And i start feeling better.......

But you expected me on your "hang me out to dry stream",to do it all by just asking for reassurance? Has it ever occured to you,that my mind doesnt function like that whenever im that "messed up"?

It doesnt happen often thankfully,thats why i often kept my distance abit. Not to be an asshole,but i wanted to protect you incase i bursted out something spontaneous i later on regret.

You seemed totally fine with it,the few times it happened and i managed to avoid us having missunderstandings over it.

And btw,Mei/Meijika offered herself/himself (i dont know if theyre all an act or what,but several people do question this individual) to reach out to you on my behalf,AFTER i had reassured them that they didnt have to do anything on my behalf.

They said they had thought it over,and offered out of the blue to write you. Thats when i first hesitated knowing how you had treated me up till that point,but then my head was like "maybe another female manages to reach in to my love?". But her reply back to me an hour later,told me that you had been seriously pissy at her,telling her that it was none of her buisness..... But she offered herself.....lets make that perfectly clear.

She then goes onto asking me to never contact her again (lol,she was the eager one to add me in the first place,calling me boo constantly,wich ill come back to in a sec)

I know how much you disliked Meijika according to yourself and your history with her,and next thing i know,shes constantly in your streams,calling you BOO and asking if you got room for her.......

You are soo easy to expose..... I hate that i feel soo much for you still.

But its finally time,to make that difficult standpoint once and for all. If i die i die,but at least i made the best closure for myself.

I will let my soul,my brain and body take the time they need to get over you,and then i wont be looking back,ever! I will stop having my door open for you to come back,because you obviously didnt invest as much into our relationship as i did,and you have had a complete change of character,how you run your streams,how you let people you hated become your VIPs and literally SPAM chat wildly.

Talk about a immatured chaos. I would think it was run by one of your younger siblings and not you,who i thought i got to know over soon half a year.

I will always cherish our memories,because they gave me a fake feeling of finally meeting THE ONE for me,and i looked forward into creating TONS of more situations and experiences like that. I thought i had finally found happiness,a purpose in life......but looking at us now,how one constantly tried for the longest to get his loved one back,or at least to talk to him again,if only for a little while,was met with a cold,aggressive,destructive wall of silence.

And after that,direct personal attacks,from someone that should know me better then so. (And now people that constantly made you freak out before stream if they messaged you,is also VIPs and screen mascots...HOW ABOUT THAT!)

And before you try to excuse that away with "people do change": Do they really change that much in 1 or 2 weeks? And most importantly: WHERE THE FUCK WAS MY CHANCE??!!! You literally unblock/take back guys/community members that has treated you way waaay worse then me!

For the first time im just gonna say it,respectfully: You were not worthy of my time,MissBanshee__! I loved you waaaay more then you loved me! Remember? I always told you "i love you moar",because i meant that shit. You started copying me,but just to tell me what i wanted to hear.... I figured you out in the end,you became good at "telling me what i wanted to hear",just not when it mattered the most.

But i call horseshit,because if you actually read it with interest,you would have felt sorry for shutting me out cold,you would have felt guilt yourself,and you would have done more to win me back yourself,at least the MissBanshee__ i once knew or thought i knew. I doubt you will ever read this last post either,so this is a final goodbye. Please do me a favor though,stick to your own click of communities. "Of course, of course. Our own little guardian angel." In a way it was almost funny. The other kids looked up to Yuri in that way, but Flynn looked after all of them. At first Flynn always seemed to sure of himself and composed that he just said what was on his mind and it was always enough to unintentionally get a reaction out of Yuri. He felt like he was behind Flynn in everything, and Flynn... used to speak like being so good was the most natural thing in the world to him.

All that aside though, Yuri was definitely happy to see that Flynn was starting to come back into his own. The only time he seemed like himself after Yuri left the knights was when he visited the Lower Quarter, but even then he was slowly starting to turn into this more... upright, polite figure like he hadn't seen them in some ten years. Sometimes even Hanks had a few things to say about it, but over time it just became Flynn's norm and people stopped wondering or worrying about it.

Except Yuri, anyway. It always bugged him to see how Flynn hid things like just sheer excitement or interest in anything. Whether Flynn had been forcing it or not Yuri wasn't sure, but it was almost as if he was intentionally trying to create distance before him and things he had emotional attachments to. Lately he wasn't doing that, and... Yuri felt like he could breathe again.

"Just remember Karol's only thirteen. By the time he gets older, he'll be used to whatever side you present to him. You've only known him for about two years or so. Two years of what you've shown him is only the norm because it's been the majority of time he's known you. Sooner or later five years will be more than two and... so on. However he sees you is partially your call."

That said, Yuri did sort of... actually hope more people would get used to Flynn. It was an annoying thing to think about, how people saw knights as strictly authority figures with... no other personality to them. Maybe in the past Yuri had done that too sometimes, but nowadays even with Leblanc, he saw a person behind that armor. Flynn wasn't just some... automated entity that protected the populace.

At least when Flynn would be alone with just Yuri and Karol, if Flynn could let himself forget they had just one single onlooker who wasn't Repede (who already knew Flynn), he could just be whoever he felt like being at that time. Karol could watch and learn and just... adjust. Heck, he had to be good at adjusting if he'd been through all those guilds. Life didn't seem to have given him a choice up until now. Hopefully that meant he could this adjustment on this own, just like he had with living with Yuri.

As Yuri thought about it though, he recognized the weird blooming feeling in his stomach. It always made him somewhat uncomfortable, being some uncontrollable thing that felt like it was right there in his body... but he had offered for Flynn to live with them if Karol was okay with it. That meant probably coming home some days after Flynn. Seeing Flynn already home. Walking in to see Karol hanging around the house with just Flynn.

For a little while at least, it would be an adjustment for Yuri, too. It had been years now since he'd just walked into their house and saw Flynn already home with the other kids, taking care of them and just going about his day. Since that eventually no longer was normal, it meant readjusting to that being normal. Not that he didn't want it to be, but... maybe because the circumstances were slightly different now? It made him feel... very fidgety.

Somehow that led his mind to wondering how the people of Aurnion would see them one day. The people there were heavily influenced by and adored Flynn from the Zaphias side, and most if not all of the guildsmen had at least some respect for him. Since many of them seemed influenced to live there by Raven too, it shed a pretty good light for both sides about each other. It also meant more people would be seeing the Commandant himself, in person, but... Yuri would be with him sometimes, and...

Nobody but Yuri knew his own thoughts right now but damn was it embarrassing how quickly his mind had dove into thinking about that. How unlike the normalcy of the Lower Quarter where nobody would be surprised to see them together (they were actually generally more surprised not to see them together), people in Aurnion would see Commandant Flynn being just resident Flynn. Not knowing anything about them, people would probably be staring at them wondering who the random guy was with the literal Commandant, and... dear heavens this was the most embarrassing thing he'd ever thought about, but here he was, actually wondering about it.

Even the most naivest of people could still manage to hit the mark every once in a while. Flynn knew this but he figured there was no point in really pointing it out. If Karol found out, he simply would find out and they would deal with it then. If he got upset, Flynn would be willing to sit down and talk with the boy himself, if he had to. He could see just how much Karol looked up to Yuri and Flynn had no intention of stealing Yuri from him.

But, even if Flynn didn’t know Karol as well as Yuri did, he… genuinely had the feeling that Karol would be okay with it. The young boy knew how close he and Yuri were, and even without the relationship part, he knew that their bond was a special one regardless. He must have known, right? After all, when it was just the three of them, Karol would always want to hear stories from their past, eyes shining with excitement the entire time. 

There were some things that Flynn didn’t care to relive but it was extremely difficult to say no to such an excited face like his. 

Still, even if he had a feeling Karol would be fine with it, Flynn promised he wouldn’t say anything and he intended on keeping his word. And if the day came when Karol found out, Flynn looked forward to answering any question that the young boy might have. So… long as they weren’t deeply personal questions about the two of them. He wasn’t quite sure he could make it through a conversation like that without dying of embarrassment. 

“I… wouldn’t call myself a rascal for that. The Lower Quarter needed water so I decided to help. I thought I was being responsible by making sure you guys were able to defend yourself. And I had training at the time so I went along to make sure you guys were okay.” The pout appeared on Flynn’s face before he could stop it. “...Aside from that, I don’t know what you mean. I rarely ever got in trouble.”

Mostly because he rarely got caught and both he and Yuri knew it. But the few times he did get caught, he got the scolding of a lifetime, whether it be from his mother, from Jiri or even from Hanks. 

Still, he could tell that Yuri was teasing him and he could feel himself growing embarrassed as his mind began to slowly file through all of the crazy things he, Yuri and the other boys got into as they were growing up. They had calmed down during their teen years, that was for certain but even then, Flynn would be lying if he said there weren’t just a few moments of mischief between the two of them as they grew older. 

Despite the shy expression on his face, he could only smile at the memories. 

“I want that. The entire world can see who they want to see but I’m happy that you still get to see the real me. I’m happy that I’m still able to be the real me… even if it’s just around you nowadays.” Still, the idea of revealing who he was to Karol was … a scary thought. It was such a strange thing, really. Had he really spent so much time playing pretend that he had forgotten how to act naturally in front of others? Of course, it had slipped out a few times, mostly when he would argue with Yuri in front of the others, but the second Flynn realized, he would find himself slipping back into his knightly persona. 

Maybe it was because being around Estellise and Raven made him nervous, and while Rita didn’t seem to care too much, she was still affiliated with the Empire and maybe that clung to the back of his brain as well. But if it were just Karol… maybe he could pull it off. One step at a time.

01.) hubert — similar to yuri, i also shipped hapi with hubert before i even shipped her with any of the ashen wolves, like a day after the cindered shadows dlc dropped. i think hapi finds his spookiness dumb in a charming kind of way, and i felt from the get-go like he’d be obsessed with trying to help her either get rid of the sighing spell or use it to her advantage. three hopes expanded on him wanting her to sigh more in combat because he thought it’s what she wanted, and he respected her decision not to, like the gentleman he is. also, coffee parties.

02.) yuri — i mentioned it in another ask about yuri’s ships, but their dynamic felt the most natural among the ashen wolves for me. a true friends-to-lovers dynamic that really clicked well and was satisfying.

03.) constance — they’re so stupid funny together, i love how they’re just always thinking of each other and hanging out in their free time. ugh, and the way coco just stands up for hapi to other nobles! it’s swoon-worthy, it’s beautiful, and obviously hapi would ruin anyone’s day if they messed with her coco. i do think they’d be prone to petty arguments, but that’s kind of fun, since they sound more like an old, bickering couple.

04.) hilda — i have no idea where this one came from, but i always liked the idea of the both of them immediately being interested in one another after balthus introduces them. the banter would be cute, and hilda fawning over dressing up hapi in pretty outfits is a super adorable thought.

05.) marianne — she believes she’s cursed, hapi actually is cursed, and it���s related to demonic beasts. there’s something soft and cathartic, and maybe a little tragic about the two of them together.

◦ beruka ›

01.) camilla — words cannot express how much i love these two together. the fact that beruka was assigned to kill camilla, but failed her mission simply because camilla asked her to work for her instead… shut up, it’s love! as asocial as beruka is, she does genuinely come to love and respect camilla, and it’s evident camilla feels the same, regardless of if those feelings are familial, platonic, or romantic.

02.) oboro — it’s hard to get the full extent of how tragic their connection is in their supports, but i imagine it must’ve taken so much more resolve for oboro to forgive beruka after her parents assassination, and for the two of them to build up an actual trusting friendship that could lead to something more. slowburn at its core, i love it.

03.) laslow — beruka? falling for laslow’s skirt-chasing shenanigans? still not very likely, but them slowly falling for each other while beruka was stalking someone and laslow interrupted each attempt with date suggestions is golden. top tier romantic-comedy material. i’d watch it if it was a movie, and i usually don’t like rom-coms!

04.) niles — he’s a fucking slime ball, but i do think he actually cared about beruka, and vice versa. they’d make each other worse instead of better, both intentionally and unintentionally, but it really just works so well.

05.) peri — another example of a duo who make each other worse instead of better, but somehow, i think their childhood traumas would bring them close. and i love the contrast of how stoic beruka is versus peri just being batshit insane. they’d be the most adorable pair of girlfriends.

For Scara and puppet reader’s wedding, it could either be a mix of both Sumeru and Inazuma? Or they have both. They have enough money to do that. I don’t imagine it to be very big. Small and intimate. Maybe Nahida should officiate the wedding… Hm, Ei would come, I believe. And with her, something to symbolize Makoto so both would be there for the pair. The Aranara should be wedding guests. They’re too cute to not invite.

I do have tentative ideas for the rings tho. I just want to joke about how fast Scara’s untying puppet reader’s obi cause he’s like lightening, aha sorry Cyno and Tighnari, I just had to. Scara legit having a smug look on his face when he realizes he’s the only one happily married. There’s exceptions yea (CtM) but would Traveler really want to have a team composing of Scara, Vyno, and Tighnari? There’s no Nahida to mediate unless… oh and Nahida might have puppet reader with her in Sumeru city when he’s out. Which does make me think that puppet reader covers up and is never seen without layers or their entire body covered except for Scara (and Dottore but that doesn’t count). Omg geochaces with these three?! That would be so cool, and the games, it's those activities that they can get along in but jenga is a really reaaaally rigged game (and don't worry about hcs for them, the first fic for poly kavetham is intentionally vague)

I did some searching and there's a LOT of things for their wedding that it's absurd, especially when mixed. But the funny bit is that most pre-wedding traditions in Inazuma Scaramouche had already unintentionally done, like providing labor to his future spouse and exchanging important items with one another. So when Ei told him about these, he was so proud that he was doing it right.

There's also the sakaki tree branch offering in the Japanese traditions, so imagine Nahida plucking two branches from Irminsul for the wedding skdbdikeks did you know in Persian traditions, when doing the "I do" part, the bride is actually asked three times to signify the journey of the husband's effort to work for their love? I think it's adorable to see Scara's smile growing in every "I do" aww

And there's also the Chuppah, the canopy held over the lovers where the four corners are raised by four close female friends during the wedding procession. So I'm thinking Paimon, Lumine, Ei, and Nahida (if Zhongli is the wedding officiator, if not, then Hu Tao). And finally, the shower of flowers but it's mainly the Aranara throwing sakura blooms at them <33

And definitely no to that team, Cyno would try to backstab that man every chance he gets lol but now that you say it, the clothes in Sumeru do cover up a lot of skin it would be perfect to wear those when they're in the city so they don't attract too much attention. But yes, with the Kintsugi and being artificially made, the attention is a definite must more so with the Lesser Lord accompanying them <33 Scara doesn't know whether to be smug or infuriated about this info (while rings are not part of the culture, I think this incident is what convinced him go get one)

Also fuck I forgot Tighnari got struck too ajdbxkankb they definitely have a closer bond then, and looking at Reader's kintsugi (can't really hide the ones on their face) he wonder if he should get his scars tattooed over with gold too, although the pain kind of scares him enough to back down every time. Their friendship would be the bridge to all four (Cyno and Scara) of them getting along honestly, at least to remove the obvious hostility.

yeah buddy i was exaggerating for humor. like, joking? you know joking? literally the reason i like dr wolf is because he's kind. i don't think he's an asshole. hell, gordon ramsay--as a persona, and with this meme, part of why it's funny to me (not to speak to his real life because i don't know much about it)--usually is. he's yelling at the adults because they are doing something wrong and should know better and being kind to children because they aren't.

i was more talking about both the difference in both vibe--dr wolf is more likely to say something unintentionally rude/blunt/seemingly confrontational to a non-patient, particularly i was thinking of nichols in the pilot episode as i'd just rewatched it (not that nichols wasn't being kind of rude there too lmao) and just how in general, especially with how closed off he is personally, he tends to focus his warmer/more open kindness and empathy on patients (and dr pierce, his one close friend). this isn't to say he's cruel or intentionally unkind to anyone (though he gives off that impression not just because of his faceblindness, though that's part of it, and again, i don't think that means he is an asshole) beyond being a little confrontational, which is almost always in defense of his patients (or to his mom, which believe me i am not here to judge), even if the other person has a point (which is admirable, once again, since i didn't say it enough apparently, this doesn't make him Actually An Asshole). wow that's a lot of parentheticals. i just woke up, my head's all over the place. anyway, that vibe, of how he's more (if you'll forgive the pun) patient with his patients, while coming off as blunt/rude to others usually because he's so focused on his patients, doesn't mean he's a dick, just that he's like, good at his job. which he is.

AND--yeah i didn't forget i said 'both'--i believe i was thinking of both the aforementioned scenes with nichols and other people he thinks are being dumb in episode one (not that he's wrong, and it's admirable he has his patient's best interests at heart, that's like, again, the whole point, that he cares when other people won't) and he's very... confrontational? i don't know how to describe exactly what i mean, it's not that he's being an asshole but that there are times where he's so frustrated with them he's ironically not seeing their perspective (ie, should we take the mom's kids away forever in the first episode? no! was it reasonable to take them temporarily and require supervised visits for the time being? yeah! then, i don't think he's stupid, i get he was also upset with the implication it could become permanent and i get that, but--you get what i'm getting at here? gestures frusuratedly) which is, again, not unreasonable, but a Vibe Difference. and also of when van first fucks up with the needle and standard biopsy, yes, it is totally reasonable for dr wolf to scold him and be like this is a very basic procedure a doctor has to do and you could have made this worse for the patient, but i admit the first time i watched i kinda thought he was gonna be like okay, what's wrong, because that was not a normal reaction--but he was more concerned about the patient's feelings than what was up with van, which again. is reasonable. and not making him an asshole. but the difference is there. do you see what i'm saying.

i literally do not want him to be an asshole. that sucks. i don't need dr house 2, if i want to watch that i'll watch house or one of the hundreds of terrible sherlock adaptations (i'm talking to you, bbc sherlock. elementary, you can stay.) i much prefer an eccentric genius character who is allowed to be openly kind and empathetic rather than be a cold asshole who maybe, if you're lucky, is ~hiding~ the kind heart under that. not that that trope can't be fun but it gets really stale and a character like dr wolf is way more refreshing and fun.

Nanami: - Forget about going shopping every few years to replace your broken alarm clock. Why waste your money when you have Nanami?

- He’s practically a walking, breathing, eating alarm clock. Not that you ever asked him to be one.

- And let me tell you, he is very, very punctual.

- Are you one second late to feeding him breakfast because you happen to be sleeping in? Nanami will smack lightly paw at your cheek to wake you up. Are you too busy scrolling through your phone that you forgot you have other things to do? He’ll put his paws over your screen and meow at you until you put it down and move your butt.

- If he weren’t such a big cat, he’d probably sit on your shoulder and monitor what you do throughout the day. Give him a pair of glasses and he’ll look just like a POS (or in this case, it’ll be parent on shoulder).

- Honestly, it’s baffling how Nanami even knows what you’re supposed to be doing.

- When he’s not on alarm clock duty, he likes to doze off under the sun. It’s quite comfortable putting your face in his fur when he’s doing that. He’s warm, fluffy, and smells like the sun. The perfect combo for de-stressing!

Yuta: - He’s the sweetest cat you could ever ask for. Like seriously, everything about Yuta is perfect.

- He may be a bit timid the first time you bring him home, but once he warms up to you, it’s like he’s been living there his entire life.

- Yuta likes to follow you around the house and watch what you do. He knows better than to get in the way and be a bother, but if you don’t mind him joining in, he’ll happily do so.

- He’s a total lap cat and can chill out on your lap for several hours straight. Fear not the pins and needles though, for Yuta is surprisingly light despite his size.

- No matter what the two of you are doing, he’s always gentle. Never once has he scratched you, intentionally or unintentionally. He doesn’t bite either, even when it comes to playtime. So with this, plus his unlimited patience, Yuta also makes for a great companion for kids.

- Mornings with Yuta are the best. If you’re still sleeping by the time he gets up, he’ll lay on top of you, purring and making biscuits until you wake up. And when you do, he’ll give you the cutest meow you’ll ever hear as a morning greeting. Even if you’re not a morning person, this is sure to give you a major mood boost!

- Perhaps the one and only downside to keeping him is that he’s being haunted by…something. The first time you noticed was when Yuta got injured. It was an accident, of course. But as you moved to go check on him, you swear you saw a dark shadow appearing behind him. Although it only resembled a small kitten, you could feel chills going down your spine when it looked at you. It disappeared not long after, so maybe it was just your eyes playing tricks on you?

- You wish. It ended up appearing again during an incident where you forgot to feed Yuta because you were just so busy. And again when you accidentally nudged him off the bed while you were sleeping. Oh boy, that shadow thing or whatever it is looked particularly angered during that moment.

- It hasn’t done anything to harm you yet, so keep up the good work of not pissing it off too much! <3  

Maki & Mai: - Oh boy. These two siblings are a handful! They don’t get along at all and sometimes you wonder why you even got both of them.

- Not a day goes by that you don’t see or hear the two of them hissing at or tussling with each other. Pretty much anything can set them off. Are their food bowls too close to each other? There goes the hissing. Is one getting more play time with you than the other? It’s wrestle time. Is one looking at the other funny? Now you have an intense standoff happening in your living room.

- But the surprising thing is, as bad as their conflicts sound, neither of them get injured during them. Sure, there’ll definitely be ruffled fur and lots of hurt pride (plus some damaged furniture rip your wallet). Never blood though. As much as they seem to dislike each other, you’ve noticed that they’re always careful to not draw blood or harm each other to a certain extent.

- You attribute their inability to get along with each other to their polar opposite personalities. Maki is somewhat similar to Megumi in the sense that she’s quite independent. She doesn't require constant attention and is perfectly fine being left alone to her own devices. Mai on the other hand, is a total diva. She adores being fawned over and is extremely particular about the things around her.

- For Mai, everything has to be to her liking. Her food bowl must be a certain distance away from Maki's, or else she won't eat. Her bed must be at its fluffiest at all times. Her toys must be clean, pristine, and not shared with Maki. And her fur. Oh boy, her fur. She takes great pride in how shiny and smooth her fur looks. Grooming sessions with you at least every other day is a must.

- Despite the siblings' constant clashes with each other, the fact that they care for each other deep down shows when one is injured or sick. The other will stick by her side, comforting her or alerting you if something doesn't seem right. Perhaps these rare displays of affection towards one another are what make their daily clashes more tolerable.

Inumaki: - Just like Yuta, Inumaki is an absolute angel. He’s well-behaved, gentle, affectionate, and not to mention super cute! Even though he’s got short fur, it’s so soft and fluffy! He’s light grey pretty much all over, except for his muzzle where he has some oddly symmetrical black markings. Unusual, but cute nonetheless.

- The only puzzling thing about Inumaki is that he never meows. Not once have you heard a single meow out of him ever since you got him. You know how plenty of cats meow when they’re being fed right? Inumaki won’t even meow for his food!

- He’s not completely mute though, because he purrs. Like, a lot. He’ll purr at pretty much anything. Just one light pat on the head and he’ll be purring. Give him a treat and he’ll purr. Let him sit in your lap and there’s the purring. Inumaki is practically a purring machine. He makes up for his lack of meowing with his purring instead. It’s not noisy at all though. As a matter of fact, his purring can soothe pretty much anybody.

- Inumaki is surprisingly energetic. Maybe it’s because he’s young, but the zoomies can and will hit him at any time. Although he’ll dash around the house for a while, you don’t have to worry about anything getting broken. Maybe the only thing you have to be concerned about is accidentally tripping over him when he zooms by.

Geto: - This cat is lazy. And no, it’s not your typical ‘I’m just lazy because I’m a cat’. It’s more like ‘I’m the king of this house and you’re my servant. Therefore, I shall laze about, not needing to lift a single paw, while you do whatever you peasants do to please your ruler.’ Perhaps you’re thinking ‘Well, what’s the difference? Aren’t most cats like that?’. You don’t understand. Geto is on a whole other level.

- He’s always just lounging around the house and staring at you with ‘that’ look. What is ‘that’ look you may ask? It’s the look he gives anybody and everybody when he’s calling them a monkey. Why monkey? Who knows. He was just giving you that look one day and the word suddenly popped into your head. Goodness, what an insult to monkeys.

- The only time you feel like he’s not calling you a monkey is when you’re handling money. Geto loves money. Jingle a few coins and he’ll come dashing over. Hold a wad of bills and you can practically see hearts in his eyes. As a matter of fact, handling money is the only time you’ll get to see him looking at you approvingly. Who knew cats could be materialistic too?

- Also, it’s very likely that Geto can see ghosts. Like, you’ll find him just intently staring into nothing at totally random times. And it’s not like he’s zoning out. You can tell that he’s actually looking at something. This behavior is particularly disturbing when you get up in the middle of the night and come across him sitting in the middle of the living room, staring directly at you. Or more like, behind you. You better hope Geto is just messing with you, because if not… Well, maybe it’s time for you to start looking for a new place.

Sukuna: - If you thought keeping Gojo or Geto was a challenge, just wait till you take in this one.

- He's the kind whom if you feed once, he'll just waltz right into your house like he owns it. Forget about trying to kick him out, because he won't leave.

- Now, even though he's claimed your house as his, he still likes to go out. If you don't let him out when he wants you to, he'll meow up a storm. A really irritating one at that. Unless you want to wear earplugs all day, you better let him out at once. And don't even think about keeping him locked outside of the house, because he won't just start meowing — he'll yowl.

- Sukuna is the definition of a neighborhood bully, just in cat form. He pretty much terrorizes the other neighborhood cats and often gets into fights. Other cat owners will probably complain, so do be prepared.

- Not everything about keeping him is bad though. If he's chosen to stay with you, that means he likes you to some degree. And if he likes you, he'll show his appreciation towards you giving him shelter and food in some way or another. So if he sees that you're having an extremely bad day, he'll grace you with his once in a blue moon cuddles. Sukuna will either curl up next to you or in your lap and let you pet him — something that would earn you some scratches if you tried it any other time — to your heart's content. If he's relaxed enough, you'll even be lucky enough to hear his rumbly purring. If this doesn't get your mood up, then you're a lost cause to him. What a lovely cat, eh?

Deceptively strong, He does not look like it at all but this man regularly throws Ghost across the mat during ‘friendly’ spars. He sees someone taller than him and internally just goes “I could throw them” and then confirms that thought at the next feasible opportunity. Has yet to actually be wrong about that.

Really niche one for Roach is him having the auditory version of a 'photographic' memory, and can recognize people solely by voice even if he's only ever heard someone over a communications system.

Has had someone actually attach a bell to him to try and cause him to unintentionally sneak up on them less. (It did not work for long.) Task Force 141 are the only people who have actually gone through with the threat of attaching bells to him.

There is an inside joke about the bells now.

Related to the above, I personally like to think he earned the nickname roach by being able to disappear the second you blink just like a bug you are trying to catch to take outside.

“Accidentally” added to the XOs/COs group chat and has been trying to leave but he keeps being added back in because he’s seen too much already for them to let him actually leave it. He wants out please let him leave.

The other sergeants in the 141 keep making jokes about him being cursed and he is starting to believe them, Very stressed due to this specifically.
