Tumblr media
How WhatsApp Earning Groups Work
WhatsApp Earning Groups are essentially communities of people who share a common goal: making money online. These groups are typically formed around a particular method or opportunity to earn, and they serve as a platform for members to exchange ideas, strategies, and opportunities.
Basic Structure and Operation of These Groups
WhatsApp Earning Groups are often managed by a leader or group admin who provides information on the ways to earn, whether it’s through affiliate marketing, selling products, completing tasks, or other online income-generating activities.
In most groups, members receive regular updates and tips on earning methods. Some groups might even charge a fee to join, while others are free. Regardless of the structure, the aim is to help members succeed by sharing knowledge, resources, and opportunities.
Types of Earnings You Can Make in WhatsApp Groups
While the types of earnings vary from one group to another, here are a few common ways you can make money through WhatsApp Earning Group:
Affiliate Marketing: Promoting products and earning commissions on sales.
Paid Surveys: Participating in surveys and getting paid for your opinions.
Selling Products: You might sell your own or others’ products directly through the group.
Freelancing: Connecting with clients who need freelance services like graphic design, writing, or virtual assistance.
Benefits of Joining a WhatsApp Earning Group
Easy Accessibility and Connectivity
WhatsApp is a platform that most people already use daily. This makes it an ideal space to connect with like-minded individuals interested in making money online. No need to learn new software or sign up for complex platforms — you can get started almost instantly!
Passive Income Opportunities
WhatsApp Earning Groups often provide opportunities for passive income. For example, once you’ve set up your affiliate links or started selling products, you can continue to earn money while you sleep.
Learning and Growth
By joining these groups, you gain access to a wealth of knowledge and insights. Many members share their personal experiences, tips, and tricks to help others succeed. The collective wisdom in these groups can be invaluable, especially for those just starting out in the online earning world.
What You Need to Know Before Joining a WhatsApp Earning Group
Before jumping into any WhatsApp Earning Group, there are a few things you need to consider.
Criteria for Joining
Some groups might require you to meet certain criteria before you can join, such as paying a membership fee, providing proof of your experience, or agreeing to a code of conduct.
Understanding Group Rules and Regulations
Each WhatsApp group has its own rules. Some groups may focus strictly on certain earning methods, while others may allow broader discussions. Make sure you understand the rules and expectations before you join.
Scams to Avoid
While many WhatsApp Earning Groups are legitimate, some may not be. It’s essential to be cautious and avoid groups that make unrealistic promises or ask for large sums of money upfront.
How to Start Earning with WhatsApp Earning Groups
Step-by-Step Guide to Joining the Right Groups
Search for Reliable Groups: Look for groups with positive reviews and testimonials from active members. Websites like Groupgodown.com can help you find trustworthy groups.
Join and Introduce Yourself: Once you’re in, introduce yourself to the group. Let people know what you’re looking to learn or earn.
Follow the Instructions: Pay attention to the admins’ guidance on how to participate and make money.
Tools and Skills You Need to Succeed
You don’t need to be a tech expert to start earning through WhatsApp groups. However, having basic skills like internet marketing, social media promotion, or understanding e-commerce can give you an edge.
Consistency and Patience in Earning
Earning money online isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme. You’ll need to be consistent, follow the group’s advice, and be patient as your income starts to grow.
Popular Ways to Earn Through WhatsApp Groups
Affiliate Marketing
One of the most common ways to earn money through WhatsApp Earning Group is by promoting products and earning commissions for each sale made through your referral link.
Paid Surveys and Polls
Some WhatsApp groups offer paid surveys or polls where you get compensated for sharing your opinions on various topics.
Selling Products and Services
Selling physical or digital products can also be an excellent way to make money. WhatsApp groups often provide a marketplace where you can promote your products.

Avoiding Fake Opportunities
Not all opportunities in WhatsApp Earning Groups are legitimate. Be cautious of groups promising huge earnings with little effort or asking for significant upfront fees.
Managing Your Time Effectively

Tips for Maximizing Your Earnings in WhatsApp Groups
Be Active and Engage with Members: Active participation can help you build connections and uncover new opportunities.

Focus on Quality: Instead of spreading yourself too thin, focus on one or two methods of earning and master them.
Is Joining a WhatsApp Earning Group Worth It?
Joining a WhatsApp Earning Group can be a fantastic opportunity for those willing to invest time and effort. While it’s not a fast track to wealth, it offers a viable way to generate extra income online, especially for beginners.

Come Back, Be Here (Part One) | DR3
Five years pass in the blink of an eye and you’ve sacrificed so much to support the man you love. But you can’t keep doing it. When you make the decision to end things you have to carry through to find who you are again.
AN: Part two will be up in the next couple of days. If you’d like to be notified leave a comment and I’ll tag you!
Warnings: heavy angst, breakups, lying.
The day you made your decision was really just the straw that broke the camel’s back. It was more hotel rooms, more planes, more lines added to your flight tracking app. You’d travelled around the world more than twice already in the year and it was only August.
You’d end up at yet another race track where you’d had your photo taken more times than you could count. Those professional photos that you were never happy with got posted to instagram accounts run by people who claimed they knew who you were and what you stood for. To yet more flights and more frequent flier miles than you ever thought anyone could have. Planning flights based on airline rather than price to keep earning them, your permanent status just increasing. First class tickets you never could afford to every location, sitting in airline lounges and smiling when people came up to Daniel to wish him luck or ask for a photo.
And every few months you got dressed up for one event or another. A gala, a charity, some sponsor party because everyone wanted to see “Daniel Ricciardo’s other half”. Getting dressed up in a dress you didn’t buy and jewellery that was loaned to you by designers. Standing on a red carpet with your fiancé’s arm around you as he gave that familiar wide grin and you played the fawning date.
You hated every single moment of it, and you didn’t know when you’d started hating it.
It was all for Daniel, and you loved him so you did everything that was asked. You did the busy days and the ridiculous travel. Ignored the hate comments on every single photo you posted on your instagram account - even a photo of the cake you’d baked for a friend’s birthday got comments about how it didn’t look good. You used Twitter Circles and Close Friends judiciously on social media, all of your accounts with that familiar blue tick because you were a “public figure”.
Instead of taking the first choice job you wanted to have you’d declined it because it was in an office five days a week. You’d taken the one you didn’t want as much because it was flexible work and you could do it from anywhere in the world so you got to travel with Dan. You made it to every race on the calendar with him, a fixture in the back of the garage of whatever team he was racing with. You’d wear his merch and have headphones on to listen to the team radio as he raced. Wherever he went, you followed because you were The Ricciardos and of course you were there. The engagement ring that had been on your left hand for eighteen months just proved it.
But you still saw what people said whenever you were in the paddock. How people made snide comments about your job because you were always there, and if you weren’t in McLaren hospitality waiting on Dan you were in Red Bull with Kelly. You were friendly with the other wives and girlfriends of drivers, you’d been there the second longest now. You were the one who was at every race, and when women came for the first time with their now public relationship you were the one who welcomed them to the chaos. And set up the new whatsapp groups whenever they were needed. You blamed Pierre for how many you needed most of the time really.
It was you and Kelly as the focal point of the group. Your partners were best friends, you got along and knew what was going on, it was a natural fit. You could put the smile on and grin and hug, helping everyone keep their head up high. When a crash happened you’d seek out whoever needed comfort and remind them of the safety that was there now. It fit you well.
But you were drowning in it.
August was supposed to be the summer break but Dan was in Woking for yet more McLaren meetings. He’d told you it was normal, part of the organisation for the third year of his contract. You were plugged into the paddock gossip, you knew what was being said, how people talked about your fiancé. The way people talked about how Dan was getting what was coming to him, a new young Australian taking over from the washed out one. The way Blake looked at you sadly, as if he was barely biting his tongue, every time someone mentioned contracts or gossip.
It wasn’t supposed to be like this.
You were supposed to be in love, be loved. Racing would always be Daniel’s first love but you could fit in there somewhere with him. Be a priority for him. Except you weren’t his priority anymore. The fact that your fifth anniversary came and went without him acknowledging it or even texting you a hello. That was the crystal clear moment that whatever you wanted was not a priority compared to his career, and you deserved better than that. You deserved to be more than an afterthought.
Once the decision was made it was easy to organise moving out. Finding an apartment in Nice was the first thing to do and it was shockingly easy. Monaco was out, the streets too small and filled with memories. Once you were settled in an apartment you could look at a new job or new country, but away from the principality was enough for now. Then it was packing up your life.
Most of your belongings were presents from Daniel. It had become his habit to try pay for everything, the income disparities clear between you. It was with the kindest of intentions but had become a gilded cage that you couldn’t escape. You didn’t know who you yourself were anymore. You didn’t know how to be anyone except F1 WAG. Daniel Ricciardo’s fiancée. The woman with so many gossip column inches it felt wrong. The Daily Mail had a category for your name at this point and that was never who you wanted to be. You’d lost yourself and you needed to find yourself again.
You got the train to Nice and signed your month to month lease for a furnished apartment. It was unusual to have one, but the letting agent recognised your face and accepted it without a moment’s thought. Once it was signed your next stop was to rent a car to bring your belongings to the small apartment.
It was simple and you had a plan. Pack your boxes of your belongings, put them in the car, drive. It took two trips to get most of them over, the final set sitting there until you decided to leave for the final time.
You had to tell Daniel in person. He deserved to have his heart broken in front of you, rather than by phone or text. He was good and loyal and he wasn’t a bad guy, this just didn’t work anymore. He deserved someone who could support him fully. It wasn’t something you could keep doing.
You sat in the living room after getting the text that he’d landed in Nice, knowing that this was the last time. You weren’t going to see him again and that hurt. You were leaving for good and never coming back here. Your engagement ring was in the green leather jewellers box he’d proposed with, sitting on what had been your bedside locker. Taking it off your finger and pushing it into the velvet cushion was when you’d shed your first tear. It was small and neat and exactly what you’d wanted, and you’d loved it from the moment he flipped the box open. Asses online had said it wasn’t enough for a millionaire’s fiancée, that you obviously didn’t mean much to him.
You didn’t want the ring or the money. You wanted Daniel. But you couldn’t have him in a way that would make you both happy.
“I’m home!” His voice echoed around the living room as he arrived in, dropping bags on the floor and you pulled him in for a hug. This was the last one you’d share and doing this when you knew things weren’t good for him professionally hurt but you had to. You couldn’t lose more of yourself.
“Hey. How was the factory?”
“Good. We need to talk about some of my—“
“Dan, I know.” He stopped still at your words. “But we need to talk about something else.”
“I’ve got a couple of offers on the table, and we’ll be—“
“Daniel.” Your voice was soft and he stared at you. His brown eyes opened wide and it felt like he was properly seeing you for the first time in what felt like years. He looked like that Daniel you’d fallen in love with in 2017, a Red Bull star with a wide smile and wild curls. You hadn’t know what you were jumping into when you danced with the man in the nightclub and went home with him. You couldn’t have guessed how your life would change. That the next five years would be the best and worst of your life and he made the highs even higher but the lows so much lower. He made everything better and worse at the same time. He took you in fully and you could tell when his eyes caught the missing jewellery.
“Where’s your ring? Were…were you robbed? What’s going on?” They were halfhearted questions as you shook your head and the reality began to sink into him.
“You know as well as I do that this isn’t working. And I’m so sorry things are ending now. But we…it’s the wrong time for us. I can’t love you the way you need and you can’t support me the way that I need. I’m sorry.”
He looked at you for a solid minute in the silence, it was as if you could see his heart break.
“But we love each other?” That it was a question cut you like a knife.
“I don’t think it’s enough. I’m not enough for you.” It was those words that made his face crumble and you took a step back, looking down at the tiled floor. You couldn’t cry. You were the one hurting him, you didn’t get to cry in front of him.”
“You are. I swear you’re enough. You’re more than enough.”
“Be happy, Daniel Ricciardo. Be happy.”
All you wanted to do was squeeze his hand and take the pain away but you couldn’t. Instead you slipped past him in your worn out sneakers and left through the front door, closing it with a gentle click.
The routine to leave the building was practiced. A few steps to the elevator, down the floors, and out. Except this time you were going to the parking garage in the basement to get the rental car and leave, and for the first time in so long someone else got into the elevator a few floors below what had been yours.
“Hey, I haven’t…is everything ok?” Max looked at your tear streaked face as you blinked back the worst ones, wiping your face roughly with your hand.
“Will you look after him for me? He’s gonna need you now.” It took a few moments for your words to sink in as he stared at you.
“What happened? Did you have a fight? You know he’ll be down in a minute to fix whatever he did, he loves you.”
“I ended things.” The shock on his face was clear as the doors shut to bring you both down. “I ended things about two minutes ago, and he’ll need his friends. I know I’ve no right to ask this, but please. Look after him for me.”
“You can work this out. Come up to ours, stay with us for a night. Think this over.”
“Max I have. I’ve been thinking about this for weeks. He forgot our anniversary and that was the final thing. He deserves someone who can support him the way he needs, and that’s not me right now. He deserves to be happy. I can’t help him be happy. Just please. You and Seb and Estie can help him. I can’t.”
You’d arrived in the garage and Max watched you step out of the elevator with him, heading to the small hatchback that stood out in the area filled with sports cars.
“Where are you going?”
“I got an apartment. I’m going to find out who I am. It’ll be worth it.”
You didn’t expect the Dutchman to wrap you in a hug but he pulled you close, squeezing for a moment before letting go.
“If you need anything. Day or night, no matter where in the world I am, you call ok? You’re like a sister to me, call me whenever you need. And Kelly will be in touch soon to see you, P is gonna miss her aunt.”
“I will.” It was a bare faced lie but it made him look lighter so you told it easily. As far as you were concerned you weren’t going to see them again.
Once you made it into Nice and parked you picked up your phone, pulling up the Find my iPhone app. It took far too few swipes to hide your location from Dan and Kelly, making sure they couldn’t see you. Once you did that you went into the WAG WhatsApp, this one entitled “oh god they’re home for two weeks what’s this chaos”. It took little time to set Kelly as an admin and then leave the chat with a waving emoji and a red heart.
The very last thing to do was to go into an Orange shop and get a new SIM card with a new number. You snapped the old SIM between your fingertips to get rid of it. It was over. You had your new fresh start but it didn’t feel like one.

CONSEQUENCES OF THE EARN IT ACT
It will be functionally illegal to discuss sexual and GRSM issues
Opens the door to law enforcement monitoring Internet traffic, which means that more moderation will be legally enforced in the future, including censoring of other religions, ethnic groups, or speech against the EARN IT committee and its affiliated parties
US based companies such as Google may be forced to remove GRSM and other non-harmful sexual content from their search engine thus decreasing visibility by a significant amount
YouTube, owned by Alphabet Inc., parent company of Google, will also be forced to remove or terminate existing channels resulting in many well-known content creators being forced to cancel uploading entirely
A brief example would be Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss by Vivienne Medrano and Spindlehorse.
Simply mentioning or referencing any form of "sexual" content, no matter how tame, will be risking termination à la Disney
Many subreddits, from r/lgbt to r/femboy, and r/thelastofus to r/undertale, will be censored or removed completely under grounds of featuring GRSM characters
WhatsApp, owned by Meta, an American company, will now be forced to disable end-to-end encryption or backdoor communications for law enforcement.
Discord will be forced to remove NSFW channel functionality and messages will be scanned for illegal material.
Other non-social-media websites, such as CNN will be prevented from reporting on sexual abuse cases
And to top it all off, perhaps the most significant change will be the complete whitewashing of Wikipedia, which will be forced to remove many wiki pages of content documenting genuine SA case studies, information on safe sex, the biology of contraception and possibly even the anatomy of the human reproductive system.

Hi! Can we have some context (and a lil' snippet of course 😉) of the evolutionary theory of attraction? Thank you ❤️
Oh yes, absolutely! It's inspired by this sequence from the Imperfects, a Netflix show where one of the characters' superpower is emitting very powerful pheromones. So everyone in her vicinity develops an unstoppable attraction/obsession with her. Specifically, I was inspired by the scene where she sprays a bottle of air freshener at her pursuers to break the pheromone smell and run away. 🤣 Well, I was thinking - our little Monegasque croissant already has VERY. DEVOTED. OBSESSIVE. FANS. What if we just turned that up a notch?
(Also to everyone else, I see your requests in my inbox! Have to bolt after this one but I will get back to you! 🥰)
title: the evolutionary theory of attraction (aka. Charles Leclerc and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Race Weekend)
summary: Of course, it would be typical Charles Leclerc luck that his body would pick the 2022 Monza race weekend to start uncontrollably emitting pheromones. And of course the only person immune to his scent is his very secret crush rival Max Verstappen.
Later, upon reflection - after he prevented a near apocalyptic event on planet Earth, and that was hardly a hyperbole - he would say that it all went to shit in the media pen after free practice. The week had started brightly enough, and Charles at the very least thought he could hold onto some measure of hope until Sunday - as history would suggest for this calendar year, but it seemed like his race weekend took its usual plunge much earlier.
To his best recollection, it started with an innocuous moment with Max Verstappen (typical, as far as unforeseen important events in his life went). Not that Charles willed it or anything, but the contact was initiated by the Dutchman, who brushed an arm against his in the “zoo.” (A term for the media pen that Alex coined affectionately in the drivers’ WhatsApp group, comparing them to animals to be gawked at, poked, and prodded for commercial gain. Albeit, very privileged and pampered animals, as Guanyu pointed out.)
An accidental touch, of course. Out of politeness alone (Max later insisted, while Charles rolled his eyes), the Red Bull driver paused beside him, which was not usual, and Charles waited patiently to receive his usual smile and greeting, but Max didn’t do either. Instead, he scrunched his nose - still slightly sunburned from the summer break - and sniffed twice at the air around Charles, which was unquestionably unusual.
Frowning and suddenly self-conscious, Charles looked down at his slightly sweaty team polo and gave a tentative sniff of his own. Sure, he was a little sweaty, but he didn’t notice any scent other than his usual anti-perspirant.
Max blinked once, twice, and then broke out in a wide smile. The one that scrunched the corners of both of his eyes, which was not something that Charles would ever admit to noticing, but nevertheless had the resulting effect of Charles forgetting whatever thoughts had preceded that moment.
“New body spray?” teased Max. “It’s not bad.”
Charles shook his head. “Flirt,” he muttered under his breath, after making sure the nearest microphone was well out of pick up range, earning both a soft chuckle and even deeper eye crinkles from his rival. If his heart thumped a little loudly, well - he would deny it with his dying breath.
Before either of them could get another word in, Max was promptly whisked away by his press officer to attend his next interview.
Ignoring his poorly disguised disappointment, his own press officer, Mia, beckoned him from a few metres away, directing him towards Ted Kravitz from SkySports. “Last one.”
Plastering a smile to his face, Charles made his way obediently towards Ted, who started off predictably with a question about Ferrari’s recent troubles. He was about halfway through his rehearsed answer about the team working hard to fix their setup issues when it happened again.
Ted, eyes almost half glazed over with a bead of sweat forming on his hairline, turned his head back and forth and… sniffed the air.
Charles was now really starting to feel self-conscious. Faltering mid-sentence, he glanced towards Mia, wondering if she should maybe call for medical assistance for poor Ted, or at the very least give Charles an excuse to leave and take a shower. But she too scrunched her nose and stared at Charles with a half-blank expression.
Ted broke the silence first. “You smell amazing!” exclaimed the reporter.
“Uh, thanks -” he stuttered, bewildered, but Ted cut him off swiftly.
“Charles, how does it feel to be the most handsome driver in the whole paddock?” Without waiting for a response, Ted leaned in - close enough that Charles could smell the other man’s… shampoo? Hair spray? He really didn’t want to know. It took every bit of his media training to not recoil dramatically at the sudden invasion of his personal space. But the SkySports reporter was undaunted, and added, “We must get a drink together after this.”
Deciding that he no longer cared if Head of Communications Silvia Hoffer Frangipane (Mattia may be the Team Principal but Sivia is - well, the boss) showed up in the zoo herself and strangled him then and there, Charles took two stumbling steps backwards and tried to unlock his half-open jaw. Then he tried pinching his arm to wake up from this bizarre nightmare. All that accomplished was a sore arm and a wave of disappointment at the realization that he was very much awake.
Fortunately, Mia intervened. “That’s an inappropriate question -” But Charles’s relief was short-lived. “What you should be asking Charles is how it feels to be the most handsome man in the whole world.”
Charles gaped at her. Either Andrea put hallucinogens instead of vitamins into his breakfast juice, or Twitter was correct and this season has caused him to lose his last shred of sanity.
“Of course,” snapped Ted, clearly annoyed by her interjection. “Charles, I will tell you how handsome you are over dinner. And then we can go back to my hotel room.”
“Over my dead body!” screeched Mia, lunging at the reporter. “I work with Charles. I love him! I have always been in love with him.”
Charles laughed - a hollow, humourless, desperate sound - as he started backing away in earnest.
Noticing his sudden movement, Mia and Ted advanced in his direction, still clawing at each other, and he was suddenly reminded of a scene from a zombie film he dearly regretted watching. Half of the people in the media pen, drivers and reporters alike, had paused their own interviews to stare at him.
Before he could lose his nerve, Charles decided to make a run for it. Ferrari can afford paying the fine.
Predictably, with his lack of luck this season, he managed to barrel straight into Max in his haste, almost knocking both of them to the ground.
“Charles?” He sounded concerned, not grumpy, despite Charles’s best attempt at bowling. “What’s wrong?”
Charles could hear his own rapid breathing and was all too aware of how close Max’s face was to his own. The blue eyes that stared back at him were confused but not unfocused, and the warm hand on Charles’s arm made his skin tingle.
“There’s something going on -” he started, but a new unwelcome touch on his cheek caused him to flinch.
Max’s press officer was no longer next to her charge, but pressed against Charles. “Oh my darling,” she tittered at Charles. “Are you hurt?” She nuzzled - actually nuzzled - his cheek, and Charles nearly swallowed a strand of her hair. “Show me where,” she cooed, unperturbed. “I’ll kiss it better.”
“Okay, what the fuck -” cursed the Red Bull driver, eyes wide in disbelief.
Wrenching his arm out of Max’s grasp, Charles bolted.

EU’s proposed Chat Control law has become a bone of contention between members of the bloc. First proposed by the European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson in May 2022 as part of bloc’s push to combat child sexual abuse online, the framework of the bill has now come under fire, earning itself a derisive term “Chat Control”.
France, Germany and Poland have particularly refused to accept a clause that allows for mass scanning of private messages by breaking end-to-end encryption. Some tech companies, along with trade associations, and privacy experts have all vehemently opposed the regulation.
On the other hand, Interior Ministers of Spain and Ireland have supported the proposal. Separately, a network of organisations and individuals, advocating for children’s rights in Europe, have lashed out at EU leaders for failing to tackle child sexual abuse online.
What are the concerns of those against the proposal?
Scanning end-to-end encrypted messages has remained a controversial issue. That’s because there is no way to do this without opening risky backdoors that can be accessed by third parties who can exploit the vulnerability, in turn ending the promise of end-to-end encryption.
Tech firms that treaded the encryption bypassing path have have often been made to retreat. In 2021, Apple announced NeuralHash, a feature that could automatically scan iCloud photo libraries of individual devices for child sexual abuse material, or CSAM. Employees and activist groups expressed concerns over the loss of privacy. A year later, Apple said it had abandoned the initiative.
Another looming issue the iPhone maker recognised in the process was how authoritarian governments could potentially misuse the feature by using it as a tool to target individuals who oppose the regime.
Erik Neuenschwander, Director of user privacy and child safety at Apple, admitted this in a note saying, “It would […] inject the potential for a slippery slope of unintended consequences. Scanning for one type of content, for instance, opens the door for bulk surveillance and could create a desire to search other encrypted messaging systems across content types.”
When brining in a similar clause through the UK’s Online Safety Bill, lawmakers attempted to make way for client-side scanning of private and encrypted messages. The proposal was postponed after receiving pushback from encrypted messaging app owners like WhatsApp and Signal. The duo threatened to leave the UK if such a law was passed. In its final stages, in September, 2023, the House of Lords considered the potential security threat that the clause would bring saying it would not implement scanning until it was “technically feasible.”
What is the status of EU’s Chat Control law?
On June 30, a new draft of the proposal is set to be be reviewed. Legislators have now left the idea of scanning text messages and audio, and are instead targetting shared photos, videos and URLs with an adjustment to appease the naysayers.
Another tweak in the making could be people’s consent in sharing material being scanned before being encrypted. But this compromise has been largely called out as a farcical one. A report by Euractiv which has been confirmed by internal documents show that if a user refuses the scanning, they will simply be blocked from sending or receiving images, videos and links hardly leaving them with a choice.
Despite these measures, EU’s enforcement of such regulations have seen exemptions to the rule. In November 2023, the European Commission reportedly published a proposal to amend the regulation on a temporary derogation of the E-Privacy Directive against CSAM. Under the regulation, specific online communications service providers were allowed to sift through or scan messages to detect, report and remove online child sexual abuse material or CSAM and content that solicits children. The regulation is set to expire in early August . The initial plan on the table was to simply extend this regulation for another three years. But, according to media reports, plans for further extensions were stalled in February this year.
Meredith Whittaker, President of Signal app called the measures to assuage concerns as “cosmetic”, and has signed a joint statement along with a group of over 60 other organisations like Mozilla, Proton, Surfshark and Tuta, voicing out her concerns. Whittaker has echoed her earlier warning saying Signal will leave the UK rather than undermine end-to-end encryption.
A blog, co-authored by Riana Pfefferkorn, a research scholar at the Stanford Internet Observatory and Callum Voge, director of government affairs and advocacy at the Internet Society, notes, ”If government surveillance is a concern in an established democratic entity like the EU, what hope is there for beleaguered democracies like Turkey, India and Brazil, much less autocracies?”

Two friends might've invited me to an mlm scam or the closest to an mlm scam that's legal here
And it's wild, very funny. Including door to door sales tactics, whatsapp groups, promises how rich you can get, promises that you get paid more per client the more active clients you have, pitches how you're doing something good for people so you definitely should do more of it (go door to door I'm telling ya!!!), and regular updates about the top door to door earners in the whatsapp group
I can't gather much atp, but the fact that you get better provisions by having more clients and you do get an additional provision for everyone working under you that seals a contract/earns a provision is very telling to me. Like those that pull more people into the incredible ineffective door to door sales system earn the most money, more than anyone actually doing sales.
So you wanna adopt people and make them sweat more than anything else, as long as they're active under you and not independently. The only upside is that you can make contracts with yourself through this company, which is nice, update utility contracts safe a few bucks and get paid, but it really isn't worth any effort. I don't buy that this is good, or worth exerting myself for

Friday night
In fact, Price had been right. There was a trap.
Gaz had had the epiphany the very same night that Riot texted about the issue on the Super Sergeants WhatsApp group. This was a bullying issue, and as such, it would be treated as any other type of bullying, wether it be on the school playground or on a military base.
With force and public scorn.
As an elder brother, Kyle Garrick had had his fair share of dealings with bullies, both defending himself and his younger siblings, and sometimes his friends. As the youngest sibling, Johnny MacTavish had faced the same predicament, blooding more than one nose in the proccess. And as a only child, Christine Vega had dealt with her own problems and taunts, and protecting the few friends she had.
In their experience, different as it was, the only definitive way of dealing with bullies was fighting back. Hard.
And that was why they had plotted and planned the whole of Monday evening, and had set it in motion during the rest of the week, waiting for it to culminate on that night.
It had been Gaz the one who had innocently mentioned to some of his own training privates how nice would it be to all go for a drink together to the village pub. He had made sure to say it out loud in the canteen, sitting at the table right next to some of the Army Air Corps Sergeants, among which where the three idiots that Soap, Riot and himself had beaten during the training class.
Gaz was aware of his reputation of being the Task Force 141’s respectful, balanced, calm Sergeant. A reputation that he had carefully cultivated like the most delicate and fragile flower. Much to Soap’s chagrin, he was never caught doing the same shit as he did, both because he had more finesse and because come on, who would believe Sergeant Garrick was capable of that?
And now, stading outside of the village pub with Soap, Riot and Gabi, Gaz felt pleased. The privates were having fun, either inside the pub or outside in the terrace like them, and the night was lovely. Everything according to plan.
‘‘They may not come’’ Gabi smiled, adorable as always with her freckles and her auburn curls. Johnny’s arm was around her shoulders and she was snuggled comfortably against his warm side, holding her drink.
‘‘That would be for the best, but it won’t happen’’ Riot shrugged, with her own drink in one hand and a lit cigarette in the other. ‘‘Too stupid’’
‘‘I agree with Christine’’ Gaz nodded, his own drink mostly finished by then. Soap simply nodded, too busy kissing Gabi’s hair and temple while she giggled, way too happy to have her in his arms again after a couple of weeks of her being absent with Laswell.
They had had to leave the inside of the pub shortly after arriving, because otherwise the privates would have treated them to endless rounds. The three of them had only had one beer, and then stuck to non alcoholic beverages just in case. If Price found out that they were drunk, or even just tipsy, while babysitting a bunch of young privates, their hides would be hung from the flag pole the next morning.
‘‘How’s Laswell been treating you, Gabi?’’ Gaz nudged the redhead’s side, earning a giggle when he unintendedly pushed her more into Soap’s side.
‘‘It’s been tiring, honestly, processing data night and day’’ She smiled, humming softly while feeling Johnny’s lips brushing her ear. ‘‘She’s obsessed with hunting down Shepherd. I could only come back here because she took a free week, or was forced to, I don’t know’’
‘‘Was everything alright at home or was it just normal leave?’’
Gabi looked at Christine when she asked, but she was seemingly more interested in observing the privates having fun.
‘‘I know she went home, wherever that is, but she was acting normal when she left’’
Riot nodded slowly, toying with the glass in her hand and remembering Price’s insistence to return Kate’s calls. Maybe she should. Maybe she should let go of her anger and call to see that her friend was alright and nothing had happened to force her to take a free week all of a sudden.
‘‘You’ve been friends for long?’’ Gabi’s hazel-green eyes were on her, and she was forced to return to reality, nodding.
‘‘Since I started working in HeadHunters. She directed my very first op as squad leader’’ Riot shrugged, tilting her glass towards a couple of privates that passed by while smiling at them and waving. ‘‘By the third mission we went out for drinks to celebrate… Rico was pissed’’
‘‘Why?’’
‘‘He didn’t want us grunts to have any kind of relation with Headquarters, Command, Watchers, or anyone of the sorts. Everything had to be through him, and him only. Orders, paperwork, intel, whatever.’’ She took a swig of her drink and then put the cigarette between her lips, her face sour with the memory of her previous Captain. ‘‘So of course everything was a shitshow, and we got things done by the skin of our teeth’’
‘‘You spent three months in the hospital because of his stupidity’’ Soap grumbled, his face still buried in Gabi’s hair, but his free hand gripped Riot’s, lacing their fingers and squeezing. She squeezed his hand back.
‘‘You should call her… or at least text her back’’ Gabi commented, completely unbothered by the fact that her boyfriend was holding hands with his best friends, and nudged her side with her index finger. ‘‘You’d make my life easier’’
‘‘I’ll think about it’’ Riot nodded, her eyes wandering around again, listening to the sound of the privates having fun, the faint music coming from inside the pub… ‘‘Gaz?’’
‘‘I see them’’ He answered, sipping his drink. Even Soap raised his head to look, and Gabi curiously turned her head as well, wanting to know who they were seeing.
Four Sergeants from the Army Air Corps had arrived to the pub, much to the disgust of some of the privates outside, who swiftly moved closer to the 141 Sergeants.
‘‘Vega…’’ The younger woman who had asked about feeling guilty in the first lesson looked nervous, scooting closer to Riot, who nodded, finishing her drink with a long swig.
‘‘That’s the 141’’ One of the AAC Sergeants nudged another, who looked taller than Ghost but not as big. ‘‘The ones that beat Morris, Bentley and Sullivan’’
The tall one grinned unpleasantly, looking at them directly.
‘‘Ah, yes, I’ve heard of them… didn’t know MacTavish and Garrick could pull women like that’’ He whistled softly, eyeing Gabi up and down before finding Vega’s cold eyes. ‘‘Ah, no, only one woman and Scarface’’
Riot didn’t react at the insult, calmly taking the lit cigarette to her lips, seemingly unaffected. But Soap knew well her enough to detect the slight drop of her shoulders and how her eyes twitched. Gabi was even more offended and looked at the man directly.
‘‘You’re a fucking asshole, go away, you creep!’’
The tall Sergeant only laughed. One of his mates was looking around nervously.
‘‘What if he is here? He’ll have our asses’’
‘‘Nah, the freak’s not here, heard he’s deployed’’ Laughing, the four of them walked to the pub’s door.
Gaz and Soap stared until they couldn’t see them anymore, the Scotsman still hugging Gabriela close and seething, and Garrick calculating their odds.
‘‘Well, he sure is charming. For what Davies told me, that’s Sergeant Henry Maynard, the ‘leader’ of their little merry band, and the one who beat him’’
‘‘Mine’’ Riot growled, slowly removing her leather jacket and handing it over to Gabi. Freak? Freak? She’d cave his fucking smug face in.
‘‘He’s bigger than you’’ Gabi whispered, holding Riot’s jacket tightly against her body with both hands.
‘‘Más pesados caen’’ She rolled her shoulders, taking a long puff of her cigarette, her eyes locked onto the pub’s door. Gaz was taking his own jacket off as well, smirking.
‘‘What did she say?’’
‘‘The harder they fall’’ Gabi translated, sighing and holding Gaz’s jacket as well, and then Johnny’s when he also took his off. ‘‘Really? The three of you? You’re going to get in so much trouble’’
‘‘There won’t be any trouble if they don’t start shit’’ Gaz shrugged, storing his watch inside his jacket’s pocket, while Riot and Soap were doing the same. ‘‘They only have to behave and we all will go back to base unscathed’’
‘‘You three have antagonized them the whole week and now you think they won’t try anything when all the privates are here and…’’ Gabi stopped talking and then turned to face Riot, her hazel-green eyes wide. ‘‘You set them up!’’
Christine gave her a tight, cold wolvish grin.
‘‘You can’t hunt without bait’’
*
Inside the pub the mood instantly soured when the four AAC Sergeants made their entrance. Not even the local villagers liked them, nor did the soldiers from other branches present. And specially, not the privates.
‘‘Ostie que je suis tanné! (I’m so goddamn tired of this)’’ Grizzly swore, towering over his mates. He was standing near the bar counter with Williams and Ibekwe and some others, all of them gathered around Davies. The battered private had been allowed to return to their quarters, and had been easily persuaded to go along with them to the pub, with the promise of having the three Sergeants watching over them.
‘‘Relax, Edouard, they want us to react’’ Williams shook her head, but all their eyes were following the four AAC Sergeants as they approached the bartender. ‘‘After Soap, Gaz and Riot beat those three, they’re out for blood’’
‘‘If they try something with any of you again I swear to God…’’
‘‘Easy there, remember what Gaz told us’’ Ibekwe whispered, watching how a couple of women sitting at the bar counter got up and left. ‘‘Do not answer to their taunts, and the moment they try something, to go out and look for them’’
‘‘I’ll break his fucking nose’’ Grizzly glared at the AAC Sergeants. He was the tallest and biggest of the privates, and it mortified him that there had been problems and he hadn’t been able to put a stop to it. He was reprimanded by Gaz twice that very week, reminding him that he absolutely could not beat a superior officer, as much as they could deserve it. To leave it to them.
‘‘You’ll do no such thing’’ Davies said calmly, holding their empty glass and avoiding to look that way. ‘‘Vega would skin you alive’’
‘‘I don’t care!’’
A yelp caught their attention, and they all turned to see a local girl getting away from the bar counter, flustered, and the four AAC Sergeants laughing. Grizzly growled and stepped forward, only to be pushed back by two other privates.
The movement caught the eye of the tallest of them, Maynard, and he smirked.
‘‘Got a problem, ginger?’’
Grizzly snorted like a mad bull, trying to wriggle free from his friends. Both Ibekwe and Williams tried to push him back, alarmed.
‘‘Edouard, Eddie, come on, ignore them…’’
‘‘Yeah, Eddie… oh wait, you’re Edouard Petit, right?’’ The AAC Sergeant laughed. ‘‘Doesn’t that mean ‘small’ in French?... You’re taller than me, so what’s small in there?’’
‘‘Really, mate?’’ One of the male privates trying to restraing Grizzly huffed, irked by the laughter. ‘‘We should let him loose to fuck you up, you asshole’’
‘‘Absolutely not!’’ Williams shook her head vigorously, pulling from Grizzly’s arm, and trying to guide him away and to the door, helped by the others. ‘‘Out, we need to get out to the terrace’’
‘‘Leaving so soon?’’ They followed them between laughs, and soon almost the whole bar was pouring outside to the relief of the owner and the bartenders. ‘‘Does the little bear need help finding his cave?’’
‘‘Shut your mouth, you fucking idiot’’ Ibekwe snapped, pushing Grizzly out of the door with the others, while the enormous Canadian was swearing in québécois.
*
‘‘Gaz, you’re the reasonable one, make them stop’’ Gabi pleaded, but Garrick shook his head, smiling.
‘‘I’m sorry, Gabi, but this is how things get fixed permanently’’
‘‘Don’t get involved too much’’ Soap nudged his shoulder playfully, grinning. ‘‘We need to keep you in Cap’s good books’’
‘‘The curly haired one is a coward and won’t do shit’’ Gaz said calmly, the three of them watching carefully the door, seeing more and more people, privates and locals alike, pouring out. ‘‘And for the other two, the one with the mole on his cheek will try to act tough in front of Maynard. The short one might chicken out too, or not’’
‘‘Christine, please’’ Gabi turned to face Riot, looking at her pleadingly. ‘‘You are going to get in so much trouble’’
‘‘Choices have consequences’’ Riot shrugged, taking a long drag of her cigarette, and then exhaling the smoke slowly. ‘‘They could have chosen to behave like decent human beings. They could have chosen not to fuck with my pups. They could have chosen not to come here’’
‘‘…’’ Gabi sighed, nodding. She could understand that. She was still worried though. ‘‘You don’t have to do this’’
Riot just nodded, her blue-grey eyes fixed on the door. Williams and Ibekwe were dragging Grizzly out with the help of a couple of other privates, whose names escaped her in that moment. They were having trouble containing the burly Canadian, who was sputtering profanities at someone inside. She sighed.
‘‘Yes, I have’’ Her eyes turned briefly to look at Johnny and Gaz and nodded, before returning her gaze to the scene. The AAC Sergeants were stepping out of the bar, with a cocky Maynard leading.
‘‘But leave him be! What is the little bear going to do, hmm? Hit an officer?’’
‘‘Petit’s temperament is going to be a problem in the future’’ Gaz commented, running his fingers through his hair, feeling the adrenalin rush of the wait.
‘‘A problem for another day’’ Soap slowly released Gabi from his grasp, and cupping her chin with one hand leant in to kiss her briefly. ‘‘Don’t get too close, hen’’
‘‘Please be careful’’ Gabi sighed, stepping back, still holding their jackets. Johnny laughed and left his empty glass on the nearest table.
Once they were outside Williams looked back and saw the Sergeants, with visible relief.
‘‘Come on, little bear, what are you doing? Running to your keepers in the 141?’’ Maynard continued to taunt the furious private, who broke free from his friends and tried to lunge forward. Both Ibekwe and Williams tried to grab his arms, alarmed.
Riot instantly tossed her cigarette butt aside and marched toward them, squaring her shoulders. Soap and Gaz followed her, the Scot already cracking his knuckles with a wide grin.
‘‘Grizzly!’’ Her sharp tone for some reason managed to get to him, and the private stopped in his tracks, breathing heavily. ‘‘Two steps back, private!’’
Before he knew it he was obeying, and with him the rest of the privates present did the same. Maynard smirked and faced the three 141 Sergeants.
‘‘So, Haggis, Chocolate and Scarface’’ His tone was cocky, unpleasant. One of his friends stepped backwards nervously, the one with curly hair as Gaz had said. ‘‘Sounds like a bad joke’’
‘‘There’s only one bad joke here, and I’m looking at it’’ Riot smiled, the end of her scar twitching. ‘‘Because I’m nice, I’m going to warn you. Once’’
‘‘Warn me about what exactly?’’ Maynard laughed, looking back at his cronies, and frowned slightly when he saw that one of them had already jumped ship.
‘‘About behaving like a proper human being’’ Gaz intervened, with a smile that looked almost kind. Almost. ‘‘But I honestly hope you decide to be an ass’’
‘‘That way we can have fun’’ Soap added, grinning. Maynard chuckled, along with one of his friends who stepped forward.
‘‘Fun, eh? Maybe I want to have fun too. I could even overlook that nasty cut, bird’’ He leered at Riot, eyeing her up and down. She didn’t react, although her blood ran ice cold for a second. ‘‘I like blondes. Maybe if I just have you on all fours…’’
‘‘Ye bloody eejit’’ Soap grunted, stepping forward to square up against him, but found himself facing Maynard’s bravest cronie. The third was looking from one to another, still hesitating, and Gaz’s cold glare was enough to make him doubt more.
‘‘As I said, I’ll only warn you once’’ Riot said, apparently calm. Her hands were clenched into fists. ‘‘Stop bullying my soldiers. Stop harassing them, or other personnel, in any way, shape or form. Just. Fucking. Stop’’
‘‘Or what?’’ Maynard leant in, his face inches away from hers. She didn’t back down. ‘‘I could knock you out just by blowing on you, shorty’’
‘‘Then you better knock me out first try’’ Her eyes narrowed slightly when she smiled again. ‘‘ Because if you don’t, you won’t leave this place on your feet’’
He grabbed her by the collar of her t-shirt, pulling her closer until their faces were almost touching.
‘‘You should learn how to treat a man, whore’’
‘‘You are not a man’’ She said calmly, unfazed. ‘‘You are just another pathetic excuse with a tiny weenie that has to compensate by being a prick’’
‘‘You fucking bitch!’’ Maynard’s hand released her collar to grab her throat. Soap and Gaz started to move, but Riot immediately headbutted Maynard, her foreheard connecting with his nose, forcing him backwards. He released her and stepped back, his hands covering his nose, a trail of blood already falling down his face and shirt.
‘‘Say that again? I didn’t quite hear you’’ Riot rolled her shoulders and wiped her forehead, smirking. ‘‘It’s not funny when you’re the one receiving, right? Don’t tell me I didn’t warn you’’
He lunged forward at her, and she allowed it. His fist connected with her face, but she used his own weight and momentum to grab his arm and twist until she could knock him off his feet. The bravest of Maynard’s cronies tried to punch Soap in the stomach, but the Scott was ready and greeted him with a straight hook to the chin that sent him to the ground. Gaz was still staring down the third and keeping watch just in case.
The sounds of distant sirens filled the night air, and most of the local villagers started to leave. Most likely the pub owner had called the police.
‘‘Gaz!’’ Soap turned to look at his friend and fellow Sergeant, grinning. ‘‘You know what to do!’’
‘‘On it!’’ He motioned at the privates still present to follow him and pulled from Gabi’s arm. ‘‘Clear out before the police gets here!’’

"is he cute? i bet he's cute let me see-" for Reggie and Alex, any pairing
It takes everything in Alex not to react when his phone dings.
Reggie notices, anyway, stopping in the middle of his ramble and pushing his plate of waffles away. He leans across the table.
"What was that?"
"Nothing," Alex says airily. Too airily, if the way his voice and Reggie's eyebrows climb are any indication.
"That's not nothing. You almost always have your notifications muted."
Alex slides back further into the booth, cradling his phone protectively as Reggie inches closer. He stabs his stack of pancakes and stuffs a bite of strawberry into his mouth in lieu of responding.
"Come on, 'Lex, tell me! Is it a guy?"
He chews slowly. "...I let important notifications through. That's not unusual, okay? This project makes up a lot of our grade—"
"I knew it!" Reggie crows, earning him a dirty look from a waitress. Not that he notices. "Our means that you care about their grade, and you care about them. It is a guy, isn't it? A really cool one that you can't stop thinking about."
Alex sighs. Reggie knows him too well.
"It might be…a guy. There's no point in voicing any sort of hopes about him because they're only bound to get crushed, which is why I didn't tell you. We're strictly project partners, Reg."
"What makes you think that?" Reggie asks, frowning. "You're awesome, Alex. Is he already dating someone or something?"
Alex pushes a few more strawberries listlessly around his plate.
"I think so? I mean, he's always going on about the guys at some club. It sounds like he has the time of his life there, with them, and I know you think I'm awesome, Reggie, but I'm not that…I don't know, wild? How could I ever keep up?"
Reggie’s face does that thing where it soothes out, except for his mouth, which scrunches into a little o. He brightens as he snaps out of it, eyes lighting on Alex's.
"But you don't know that they're together, right? Maybe they're just good friends! That's why Luke and Julie didn't ask me out for ages, remember? They'd assumed that you were my boyfriend."
"That's…true," Alex admits, smiling faintly in spite of himself as Reggie beams. "Okay, yeah, maybe I shouldn't be so quick to assume. The way I feel about this guy…it's just scary. I barely know him, Reg, but I like him so much. It’s going to hurt like hell if he rejects me."
Reggie takes his hand, netting them another glare from a different waitress. Alex glares back until she looks away. Reggie, meanwhile, has remained blissfully unaware, intently focused on Alex.
"I'll be there for you no matter what, buddy, but you shouldn't quit before you've even played the game. Alright? At least own your awesomeness for once! If this guy doesn't see it, someone will. Sometimes you've just gotta put yourself out there."
Alex swallows. He squeezes Reggie’s hand.
"Thanks, Reg. But also…if he says no, won't that make our whole project…awkward?"
Reggie shrugs. "That's college for you. Aren't most of the group projects shitty?"
He has to concede that point as well. He's more or less worn down, and he promises to at least think about asking him out.
Reggie almost lets it go after that, but when Alex's phone dings again, he gets a mischievous glint in his eye.
"You know, there's still so much you haven't told me about this guy. I know your type, but like, what's his name? What does he do? Is he cute?"
"His name is Willie. He's doing something with art, theater is his minor. And like, objectively speaking, he's…well…"
Reggie smirks. "'Lex, it's a simple question. Is he cute? Just say so."
Alex stammers as a hot flush sweeps over his skin. He can't help it; Willie's hard to describe. Or maybe he's so fucking attractive that it melts Alex's brain.
"I bet he's cute, let me see—"
Reggie lunges for Alex's phone, crowing again as he manages to pry it from his hand. He unlocks it and whistles.
"Damn Alex, forget cute. This guy is smoking hot."
He shows Alex the Whatsapp profile picture as if it's not burned into his brain.
Willie's grinning in it, long dark hair whipping in the wind as he balances on a skateboard on what looks like a precarious rail. Those jeans definitely do nothing to hide how…muscular his legs are, especially with the…artfully placed rips. The white hoodie softens it all somehow, but it only screams that he's also cuddly, which makes him even more attractive.
It's absolutely maddening.
And it pales in comparison to the real thing. Willie is possibly the most vivacious person Alex has ever met.
"Yeah," Alex manages to croak. "He is."
Reggie flips his phone back around with a little hum before Alex can protest.
"Alex! He's flirting with you!"
"Okay, but that doesn't have to mean—"
"Alex."
He throws his hands up, and thankfully not out, or he would've hit a waiter. They really need to leave before they get banned from the best diner near campus.
"Some people are just flirtatious! You flirt with me all of the time!"
Reggie just gives him a sunny grin and a wink. "There's a difference between flirting for fun and flirting with intent, babe. If he's not doing the latter, I'll eat my boot."
"You might have to, anyway," Alex mutters, huffing at Reggie’s oblivious little what.
They don't get banned, if only because Alex pays and drags him out at what Luke calls his runway speed, so there's that.
But if his anxiety is totally off about the other things…well, he's not exactly mad about it, although he does have to laugh when Willie asks to meet him at the diner for one of their first dates.

The Vega family sticks to a series of busy stations on the 7 line, traveling together at set times in the mornings and evenings and keeping tabs on one another’s movements during the day through audio messages in WhatsApp group chats. There are other Ecuadoran families working the subway, many of them high-school-age girls like Gloria with infants strapped to their backs in bedsheets or shawls or with young children beside them on foot. Sometimes, the younger children themselves — 5, 8, 11 years old — are doing the selling. “Cómpreme un chicle, un chocolate, cómpreme,” they say quietly (“Buy a piece of gum, a chocolate”). Or “Ayúdeme, por favor, con una compra” (“Help me, please, by buying something”). Others approach potential customers without saying anything at all.
Like Gloria, most of the candy sellers are Kichwa-speaking Indigenous people from Ecuador’s rural central highlands. They are part of the largest wave of Ecuadoran migration to the U.S. since the turn of the century: In January, for the first time, Ecuadorans were more common than any other nationality of migrants detained by Mexican authorities. Whole families are fleeing a country mired in a socioeconomic crisis, driven by radical cuts to public spending and an overwhelmed health-care system still recovering from the pandemic. More than a quarter of the population lives in poverty, and in many regions gangs and drug cartels have fueled a surge in violence; on August 9, a presidential candidate was killed on the campaign trail in Quito. Some 12,000 encounters with Ecuadoran migrants were reported by the U.S. along the southern border in November 2022 alone, a nearly 20-fold increase over the year before.
In New York, asylum seekers have struggled to find space in the city’s shelter system, which currently houses 57,000 undocumented new arrivals, outnumbering the homeless population for the first time. Earlier this month, hundreds of migrants had to sleep on the street when the city couldn’t find beds for them. “We are past our breaking point,” Mayor Eric Adams said. “New Yorkers’ compassion may be limitless, but our resources are not.” Migrants have saturated the city’s informal labor markets — including construction, restaurant, and domestic work — and rents even for shared rooms in overcrowded houses have soared. Families can’t meet their basic needs.
“We’ve all recently arrived, and we don’t have the money even to afford diapers,” Gloria said. On the best days, most candy sellers don’t earn much more than $80. “Some people are nice and tell you to keep the change, and some people will give you money without asking for anything in return.” On the worst days — hot or rainy days when fewer people are commuting — hardly anyone buys at all.
The youngest working children in the Vega family, about half a dozen cousins between 4 and 14 years old, stay on one of the platforms all day, supervised by an adult — usually Gloria’s mother, Juana, a middle-aged woman who speaks Kichwa with her daughters, who typically respond in Spanish. Month after month, the children work throughout the weekday. Even if their parents might want to put them in school, they know a simple truth: Children sell more.

Swipe City: Part 3 Chatting
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: This is fiction. I do not know any celebrity appearing in this story. It has been years since I have written anything; so, please be kind.
Warnings: Mention of Age Gap (All parties are of legal age; OC is older), Female pronouns used (purely because I’m female and using some of my life experiences as inspiration.)
After finishing their lunch and confirming a boys’ night at Reece’s, the group splits up. Christian quickly makes his way home wanting to be in the privacy of his own place before opening the message.
He settles onto his couch and takes a deep breath. He has no idea why he is acting this way over a girl –woman— he doesn’t know and has never spoken to. Christian tries to center his energy into calmness as he enters his phone’s password and clicks on the message notification.
Y/N: Hey, Chris. Too funny meeting another American on here. Glad to know that you think my low-key hobbies are something we have in common. :) I might let the lack of dog having slide if you happen to be good with dogs in general. :D
Christian laughs at the response. Apparently the beautiful woman is just as low-key and silly as he is.
Chris: Good to know! I am VERY GOOD with animals. Back in the States, my family had a dog and I’ll have you know, I was his FAVORITE person!
Y/N: What type of dog? Do you have pictures of him!?!?!  🐕
Christian laughs at the quick response and quickly sorts through his phone looking for a picture of Timone that wouldn’t give away his identity. Finally, he finds one of Timone sleeping. He crops the photo to remove the family pictures in the background and sends it to Y/N.
Y/N: He is adorable! How old is he?
Christian laughs again. The woman doesn’t seem to care about his job or what he looks like–she just wants pictures of his dog.
Christian grins mischievously as he write his reply.
Chris: He is around 7 years old. What about you? Do you have a dog for bonus points?
Y/N:  Picture
Y/N: I guess I am earning all the bonus points considering my boy is the cutest damn dog ever. His name is Charlie, and he is 13 years old. I went through a lot with immigration to get him here, but it was so worth it.
Chris: Charlie is a handsome boy. I guess you are winning in the points category!  😜
As the two continue chatting, Christian finds that the conversation flows easily as it moves from dogs to movies to books to cooking. He notes curiously that not once do either bring up why they moved to London or work.  Eventually Christian looks up at the clock and realizes they have been chatting for 2 hours–he never texts with anyone that long, not even his mother.  He has good feeling about Y/N and decides to make a bold move.
Chris: So, I know we just matched today, but I am really enjoying talking to you. Would you be interested in meeting this week?
Y/N: I have enjoyed talking to you as well. I would love to meet up this week, but I have one slightly awkward request.
Christian glances at the message. A request? Does she want to video chat? Is she going to ask him how much money he makes? He tries to push down the panic.
Chris: What’s that?
Y/N: Do you mind if we exchange numbers and talk on the phone a bit? I’d like to at least have an idea of what you sound like– I mean you could be 60 years old or 12 years old, and I wouldn’t know.
Christian breathes a sigh of relief.
Chris: I didn’t know 60 year olds or 12 year olds could be smooth like me.
Y/N:  🤨   I don’t know that “smooth” is the correct word for you.
Chris: Ouch! I’m very smooth! LOL  And absolutely to your request. I mean you could be a 61 year old or an 11 year old.
Y/N:   🙄 Good thing I’m not. Here is my number 555-555-5554. I use WhatsApp here in London.
Christian rapidly opens his WhatsApp and creates a new account to ensure his identity remains hidden then adds Y/N information into his contacts.
Deciding to jump right in, Christian messages her on WhatsApp.
Christian: Hey, it’s Chris from the dating app. How are you?
Y/N: Hi, Chris. I’m still good like I was when I was messaging you 3 minutes ago. 😂
Christian blushes and tries to think of something witty to say but nothing comes to mind. His phone buzzes with another message.
Y/N: I need to leave in about 15 minutes to run errands but would you want to talk for a few minutes now?
Christian grins but doesn’t reply; instead choosing to click on the voicecall feature.  A feminine voice answers.
“Hey stranger.”
Christian laughs then replies “Hey, Y/N. How’s your day?” before smacking himself in the face. There was that question again.
Y/N’s laughter chimes through the phone. “And you think you are smooth. But it’s going good. How is yours?”
Well, at least she didn’t hang up on me. Christian thinks.  “Pretty good now that I get to hear your beautiful voice.”
“Okay, okay, Romeo. That was pretty smooth.”
The two chat for a bit deciding to arrange a lunch date for two days from now. Christian isn’t sure of himself or Y/N’s expectations but decides to put himself out there.
“Now that we have agreed on a day and time. I’ll plan the date, if that’s okay with you?”  Christian says softly.
Y/N’s silence makes him think he has made the wrong choice. They both start to speak at the same time, but Christian tells her to continue.
“That would be great, actually. Sorry, I was just a little surprised given your age that you would think to plan the date.” Y/N breathes out.
Christian grins. HE surprised her and she seemed to enjoy it. “Well, my mother would probably beat my ass if I told her I asked a pretty woman out and didn’t put effort into planning something.”
The both laugh at his comment. Though it’s only been a few minutes of talking, Christian feels like regardless of if she ends up being someone he dates or not, they could be great friends.
“I have to go, unfortunately. I need to get this stuff done. If you are up for it, we can talk later.” Y/N tells him.
“Sounds great. Be careful out there. The weather is suppose to suck later.” Christian responds
Y/N confirms she knows about the impending rain and that she will have her rain jacket. They bid their goodbyes and hang up.
Christian happily flops back on his couch. Today is going to be a good day.
