Bingqiu AU where Luo Binghe's the chosen village sacrifice to the evil deity who lives up the mountain.

Normally the village sends maidens, but they've more or less run out of expendable girls of the right age and, ahem, "virtues". So of course Luo Binghe's early life bad luck kicks in. In the wake of his mother's death there's no one to really care about what happens to him, he's fairly pretty, and the village leaders decide that if they dress him up like a girl the teenaged homeless kid should pass well enough. And hey, y'know, he's probably got a hard life ahead for him anyway -- dying in a brothel of some venereal disease or on the streets of exposure or starvation. At least as a sacrifice, everyone else gets to benefit from his loss! And the kid will get added to a shrine and be remembered as a hero! If anything, he should be happy about this!

Binghe is not happy about this.

But he's also a skinny underfed nobody who is easily overpowered, dressed up like a bride, and tied to a post. So. Not much he can do but wait for the evil deity to come and do whatever horrible thing he's gonna do to him.

Meanwhile, Shen Yuan is pretty sure he's been isekai'd into the over-powered hero of some kind of supernatural adventure story? He's not totally sure because he doesn't recognize the setting, but the signs are there. He's got a shrine-like base of operations (though it seems to have become corrupted/ruined, probably he has to restore it somehow), he has a very resilient and handsome new body with spiritual energy of some kind flowing through him, and a very clearly magical sword. Plus lots of neat starter powers! Though it feels like he has other abilities that have been blocked somehow? Probably he has to level up in order to access them.

When he treks out of his "base" and finds what seems to be a distressed maiden, he takes it for his beginner hero mission. The girl claims that she's been doomed to be sacrificed to an evil god. That sounds a little above Shen Yuan's pay grade for dealing with, so he unties her and decides that they had better just get out of the whole region altogether. He already packed up anything useful from his base, anticipating he might get caught up in an adventure once he left, so they follow the river away from the settlement until they reach another one.

While they travel, Luo Binghe tells Shen Yuan about the cursed deity, Shen Qingqiu, who was cast out of the heavens for slaughtering one of his brethren and has apparently being do-who-knows what to maidens from the local village in exchange for his "protection" ever since. Sounds like a real asshole! And also mid-level boss type bad guy at least. Shen Yuan hopes he doesn't have to fight him, but he probably will.

Thank goodness he found Binghe, though! Clearly the helpful little sister type! He's definitely going to require her assistance if he's going to figure out how to navigate this world and level up his skills enough to take on a god.

Being friends with Xie Lian would be so weird because this man peppers in bits of his insane life ruining trauma randomly mid sentence. You'd like accidentally step on his toes and he'd go "ah don't worry about it, that foot's been cut off and eaten before anyways" smile, and then never elaborate.

The fact that Xie Lian is often unable to hide his pain from Hua Cheng, like when there's a needle stuck in his foot, is to me what shows most how deep their love for each other goes.

Xie Lian feels so safe with Hua Cheng, so understood, respected and loved, that even his body fully knows it and is unable to hide anything from Hua Cheng because it doesn't feel the need to.

Price likes rainbow trout that he cooked himself in garlic and butter in a ration tin over an open fire. Nothin better than trout you caught, gutted and cooked yourself on the river bank. Bonus points for a bottle of something cold and hoppy to go along with it while he eats it on the river bank, still wearing his wellies and waders.

For Nik, it's calamari and grilled sea bass with a glass of white wine, maybe a sauvignon blanc from France, in some swanky hotel on the Adriatic coast. Just sitting there in beige chinos, an open shirt and bare feet, skin still warm from where he was basking in the sun all day, not even checking the bill before he pays for it.

something about how they’ve fought so many times on track and they know how to fight and they both used to revel in it and they used to have their teeth sunk into each other’s throats every single race and how that was who they were but this time they didn’t even try

something about how the checkered flag was out and they didn’t waste a single SECOND immediately falling into line with each other, cooldown lap in perfect synchronization gliding along the track like swans on a fucking lake right next to each other

something about the way esteban joined pierre at the team wall and they were both getting jostled and shaken and embraced by the adoring arms of the team who finally made it and at first pierre took a startled half-step away before putting more distance between them like he was scared

and then the way he kept looking over his shoulder at esteban quick and uncoordinated and unsure just immobilized by his own compulsive self-restraint but he couldn’t tear his eyes away for more than a second

the way pierre approached esteban first it was as if esteban didn’t even notice didn’t even expect

the way pierre was visibly hesitant and reached out first <<reached out first>> and at first was only going for a handshake until he saw esteban raise his other arm

the way the *microsecond* it clicked like hug. this is a hug pierre practically stumbled and that stupid mental barrier broke and he dropped his head onto estie’s shoulder and the way you could see the relief in his entire posture

the way pierre kept his hand on estie’s waist even as they stepped apart and didn’t let go or look away until estie literally turned towards the team and headed back to the wall

the way pierre finally dropped his hand and then couldn’t stand it as esteban walked away so he reached out with his other hand and put it back on his waist and then fucking dragged it over his fucking stomach before he finally let go

the way pierre in that hug was suddenly smaller and wrapped up completely embraced and held tight in a way he didn’t even know he missed

since it's the first of april let me talk abt my fav prank of tgcf is when xie lian made his communication array password be 'just recite the ethics sutra a thousand times' just cuz he thought he was being funny and I imagine it went like this
