These two images together will make little sense unless you’ve watched Professor Skye’s video on Drake. Inspired by Drake’s back to back filings of petitions for potential legal action against his own label UMG. And Prof. Skye didn’t say this but I wanted to add the irony that “drake” is a name used to describe male ducks who have reached sexual maturity. Anyway I highly recommend this video essay as it seeks to clarify definitions of Hip-Hop, The Culture, and why Drake is such a controversial figure who whether intentionallly or not, causes a lot of confusion.

Also much love to Prof. Skye for sitting out in the cold on Thanksgiving to talk Hip-Hop.

Not to get overly sentimental but rap beef is honestly such a creative form of expression. Like we’re going to hold off on kicking the shit out of each other and calling up shooters to make clever rhymes about each other and get the common man saying words like ‘double entendre.’
Here’s a couple of suggestions of other diss tracks to listen to if you’ve found you’ve liked bitchy poetry:
Ether - Nas (2001) - diss track vs Jay Z & widely considered to be one of the best diss tracks ever released. It’s a response to Jay Z’s diss ‘Takeover’ which at the time of its release left people thinking Nas’ career was over and then Nas uno reversed that shit with Ether and it’s still considered to be a miracle that Jay Z managed to maintain his fame.
Hit ‘em up - 2Pac (1996) -diss track vs Biggie & Bad Boy records. Part of the East Coast / West Coast beef. 2Pac was shot 5 times and survived and Biggie released a song called ‘Who Shot Ya.’ Hit em up is Pac’s response and it’s iconic. Plus the tune is groovy as shit.
Real Muthaphuckkin’ G’s - Eazy E (1993) - Dr Dre left his group NWA over a dispute about contracts/pay. He later released a song called ‘Fuck with Dre Day’ where he had a go at Eazy E (the lead rapper of NWA). Eazy released this in response and it’s another groovy, west coast banger.
Story of Adidon- Pusha T (2018) - Pusha T walked so Kendrick Lamar could run. Need I say more.
No Vaseline - Ice Cube (1991) - vs remaining members of NWA. Cube was the first to leave NWA over contracts/pay disputes. The remaining members released an album, with subtle disses against him. Ice Cube, as Ice Cube does, got pissed.
Life’s on the Line - 50 Cent (2003) - adding this because 50 Cent hates as easily as he breathes and it’s something to marvel at. His beef with Ja Rule started in ‘99 when Ja Rule was robbed by 50’s people and then one thing lead to another and 50 was stabbed and then he was shot 9 times. ‘Time is the best medicine-‘ no. no it’s not. If anything 50 gets angrier through the years. 19 years later 50 bought 200 tickets to Ja Rule’s concert so the front rows were completely empty.

I don't think now, at the time Iran is viciously defending against US imperialism, is the time to be making left-communist critiques of them.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is not some unimpeachable bastion of anti-imperialism in western asia and it is dangerous to withhold critique just because it is opposed to US hegemony. The IRI is a theocratic ethnostate pushing back against euro-american imperialism while enacting its own centuries-long imperialism on the ethnic and religious minorities that fall within and around its borders. On a weekly if not daily basis, the IRGC, the paramilitary basijis, as well as the regular police harass, arrest, and kill not only such minorities as Kurds, Balochs, and Ahwazi Arabs (don't have to look far for this), but also ethnic Persian political dissidents and gender and sexual minorities.
The history of the 1979 revolution speaks to the development and rise of Khomeinism in the 1970s as a bourgeoisie opportunism that claimed the martyrs of Iranian communists while at every turn promising the disenfranchised baazaaris the protection of their private property. The purge of the Mojahedin in the months after the revolution, the associated purge of all deemed communist, and the immediate suppression of Kurdish autonomy movements in the northwest, all form the legacy of Khomeinism. It is important to be honest about this, to be honest about the reformulation of institutional misogyny and the other ills of Pahlavi Iran under the IRI, while simultaneously recognizing that the revolution was successful in one thing: exorcising the puppeteering hands of the united states from the country. It is important not to fall into the trap of valorizing an imperial power, while understanding that the only liberatory future for the people on the plateau and surrounding regions is revolution from within and below, not external intervention. These are compatible and, indeed, complementary halves of a whole politic!
As a Tehrani, and particularly as an ethnic Persian/Iranian Azerbaijani (Iranian Azerbaijanis being subject to linguistic and cultural suppression, but nonetheless perhaps the most integrated minority), it strikes me as my responsibility to talk about this. And it is something I talk about regardless of what is going on. As an esoteric Shi'a, it especially seems like my responsibility to talk about what Khomeinism has wrought.
And all of that is to say nothing of the fact that in my post I was just critiquing left-Shi'a infatuation with Khomeinism qua ideology, with no mention of the IRI—whose relationship with Khomeinism is varied, nebulous, and I would say secondary to the three decades of theocratic nationalism that has developed since Khomeini's death.

It will never not be funny how Alhaitham said he's needed in the house of Daena and Hoyo had the time to animate Tighnari being like "...Huh?" Like, what was that for?? Was Tighnari just as confused as we are that this guy is coincidentally hanging around in Port Ormos, so that Kaveh can coincidentally run into him?? They didn't even address it in the end, which makes it even funnier.
HELPPP!! Anon I’m going crazy, alhaitham really said he was there for work, but he made time to head to a secluded area for a private talk with kaveh, and after their conversation was crashed, he helped with the plot, and suddenly had to leave?
What did his office based job require him to do in port ormos? How long does it take in game to get from port ormos, and back to the house of daena? the genshin map is notoriously nonsensical, but port ormos and sumeru city are almost on opposite sides of the map, why did he make it sound like it was a brisk stroll away?
Someone commented that alhaitham saying “see you later” was in reference to kaveh, since kaveh was the only person in frame, and alhaitham’s signature ‘see you’ is directed to the traveller, when it’s uncertain when they’ll next meet. this just makes me ill – alhaitham and kaveh LIVE together, and still they ensured that they would be able to have a private conversation when unexpectedly (serendipitously) meeting
And !!! so real about tighnari’s reaction. When reading the leaks and then seeing the actual cutscene I perceived it to be both about his curiosity about why everyone was gathered (to discuss the wedjat eye), but also about alhaitham’s sudden departure AND presence, considering that alhaitham had nothing to do with the celebrations.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The blocking here is so ?? it’s not clear whether tighnari is reacting to his confusion with what kaveh means by ‘mysteries’, since this exchange could have happened before alhaitham left, but the fact it happens after creates this ambiguity, so tighnari potentially questioning why alhaitham is in port ormos when there’s no clear reason why he should be is so funny to me
we’re told that everyone is gathered in port ormos in order for the birthday celebrations to remain a secret, but alhaitham needed to be there to progress plot, but also to be with kaveh – it was apparently essential the devs engineer a way to drop in that kaveh programmed mehrak to recognise alhaitham’s voice...? It’s hilarious and sick! <///3

this is unsolicited advice, i know, but my 12+ years of terrible ibs and hypersensitivity to things that were 'spicy' (had any capsaicin or cayenne pepper) turned out to just be mcas the whole time and taking cromolyn/antihistamines means i can eat like. ice cream and pizza and peppers without wanting to die about it. might be something to look into!
i don't think it's anything that serious since it's all just minor annoyances and i don't think i've ever experienced anything that suggests a life-threatening condition
however it has also been brought to my attention that i've got a 5-7 beighton score (the knee situation is unclear because my thighs are huge and i was just doing this at home for funsies) so my ability to be like "well that's probably not weird enough to worry about" is pretty high i guess
and i do have the self-diagnosed rosacea making me flush red like crazy all the time
and i've always had the weird asthma thing making me wheeze and cough for hours after trying to run (they tried giving me an inhaler at one point and it didn't help and it never got investigated further)
and i've had ibs basically since i was born and got diagnosed with acid reflux in elementary school
and lately i've been getting extra annoyed at how hot my legs but specifically my knees and the tops of my feet get after running/walking/whatever. especially my feet, the weird heat rash thing is obnoxious.
so! who knows!! maybe in the aggregate there's Something. once i've finished paying off the thousand or so they charged me for the last bloodwork they did to tell me i'm fine i might mention it to someone, at some point.

Eminem is so weird, I mean he insults trans people in a song, and then in another song of the same album he says how much he loves his genderfluid daughter
Marshall you are so weird
