Ok, so I loved this post
The part that got me though was when you said “I wonder what type of animal form they take factors into that” - that’s where the gears in my head started turnin’
So I went snooping on each animal counterpart associated with each sin.
1.) SLOTH: are cats sensitive to cold?
So Kuro isn’t JUST a neet that prefers blankets or a kotatsu over the cold… his animal form being a cat does play some part… key word beings some
“Cats are pretty well adapted for cold weather, but when the temperature dips below freezing they are susceptible to hypothermia and frostbite. During periods of cold weather, cats will go looking for a warm place to hunker down. How cold is too cold for indoor cats? Cats prefer warmth but will be okay in rooms hovering between 50-60°F degrees; while their counterparts Lions, in a zoo environment, stay outside in the winter unless the temperature dips below 40°F (in the wild, most lions don’t have to worry about temperatures dropping below 65°F so in most cases 40°F and below is too cold).”
SLOTH SENSATIVE TO COLD? ✅ (yes)
2.) PRIDE: are bats sensitive to cold?
“Bats can't survive freezing temperatures, even when they're hibernating. Any roost bats shelter in for the winter must be at least 45°F or warmer. They also seek out dark, secluded, and sheltered places that can keep them safe from predators. Bats are defenseless while they're hibernating.”
PRIDE SENSATIVE TO COLD? ✅ (yes)
3.) ENVY: are snakes sensitive to cold?
Jeje being a snake is pretty much a given… but it’d be mean to not include him (so no funny ideas outta you, ok Mikuni?)
“What is the coldest temperature a snake can withstand? Snakes usually stay out of cold climates. Because the coldest temperature any snake can thrive in is around 65°F, snakes normally live in the warmer temperate or tropical zones. Below 60°F, snakes become sluggish. Above 95°F, snakes become overheated.”
ENVY SENSATIVE TO COLD? ✅ (yes)
4.) WRATH: are wolves sensitive to cold?
“Wolves don't need to do anything. They're much better adapted to cold weather than we are. Thanks to their winter adaptations, wolves can live in temperatures as low as -40°F. During the coldest nights, a wolf will curl itself into a ball, covering its nose with its tail, which will hold the exhaled warm air over its feet and nose, conserving precious body heat. It will also sleep close to its pack-mates(her Eve) in a unified effort to stay warm.”
WRATH SENSATIVE TO COLD? ♾ (neutral-ish)
5.) GREED: are hedgehogs sensitive to cold?
“Hedgehogs getting cold is a BIG ‘No no’. It slows their metabolism down, leaving them susceptible to infections, dehydration and starvation. It's important to keep your hedgehog in an environment between 72-80°F. Even if it’s not always comfortable for us humans (comfortable for angels? no clue), temperatures lower than 70°F are considered ‘cold’ for hedgehogs and can result in a hibernation attempt, which can be fatal.”
Maybe that’s why Lawless always wears that scarf? Since hedgehogs are severely thermally sensitive then it would make sense…
(Crantz, Gil… please stop the angel from getting any ideas)
GREED SENSITIVE TO COLD? ✅ (yes)
6.) GLUTTONY: are pigs sensitive to cold?
In this case I will refer mostly to Vietnamese Potbellied Pigs because as far as I know, we haven’t actually seen Ildio’s pig form yet - one of the only depictions is Lawless’ stage depictions of the 7 vampire siblings in ep6… and based on his stage depiction of Ildio’s pig form, Viatnamese Vietnamese Miniature Potbellied Pigs seem like they’d be the common type of pig that seems to fit that shape/size.
“The ideal temperature range for a potbelly pig is 65-88°F. Pigs in winter do not need any type of supplemental heat down to at least -20°F. Most potbelly pigs require more feed to maintain heat production and body condition; meaning that housing aside, the more feed/calorie intake, the easier it can be for pigs to regulate their body heat.”
However, seeing as Ildio is an ageless vampire with the mother-effing holy grail of metabolisms, we don’t know if his MASSIVE calorie intake, that he doesn’t really gain much/any weight from, will actually help him in cold weather.
GLUTTONY SENSATIVE TO COLD? ♾❔(neutral/unknown where they stand exactly)
7.) LUST: are butterflies sensitive to cold?
Snow Lily’s butterfly appearance is probably one of the most exaggerated of the 8 servamp animal forms. That gorgeous shade of pink and black aside, I couldn’t find any real buttwrfly species with that wing pattern or wings shaped like that. So color and wing pattern aside, I’d say the closest real-world butterfly to Snow Lily would be a variation of Swallowtail Butterfly.
Butterflies are cold-blooded critters, however, generally speaking butterflies won't fly when temperatures are less than 55-60°F.
LUST SENSATIVE TO COLD? ✅ (yes)
8.) MELANCHOLY: are foxes sensitive to cold?
Even though Tsubaki’s two tails seem to be a play of of the legends of Nine Tail Fox, generally speaking based off his other details being black fox with white on the end of his tail(s), he is most likely a Silver Fox; which is a type of Red Fox.
The upper critical temperature of the red fox is probably between 86-89°F. An official temperature range of what is too cold for red foxes is more or less unknown or unofficial at best. The arctic fox is said to be able to tolerate temperatures as low as -72°F but red foxes haven’t occupied the tundra in the past partly because it was too cold; with their longer ears and limbs, they lose heat faster than their arctic cousins. So we know the average red fox can tolerate and survive cold temperatures, but most likely not temperatures like their arctic counterparts live in.
MELANCHOLY SENSATIVE TO COLD? ♾❔❌ (neutral/unknown where they stand exactly/least affected of the bunch)
and after ALL OF THAT…
the most interesting thing is–
when I first got into SERVAMP, I remember being curious where the concept of ‘the different sins transforming into animal forms’ came from. After a little research, I found that there is a history to it! A very detailed account of the origins and representations of them within history. And a small portion discusses the animal depictions of the original 7 deadly sins⬇️
“An allegorical image depicting the human heart subject to the seven deadly sins, each represented by an animal (clockwise: Toad = Avarice [greed]; Snake = Envy; Lion = Wrath; Snail = Sloth; Pig = Gluttony; Goat = Lust why? I have no idea; Peacock = Pride).”
So Jeje and Ildio’s animal forms are the only ones true to the original depictions of their associated sins.
Pride as a peacock does make sense… but I can understand adding the bat into the mix because - vampires.
I get why they’d change Kuro to a cat instead of a snail because I can’t see a snail being threatening at all unless it’s either severely poisonous or Gary… like, supernatural vampire powers or not, Kuro as a snail wouldn’t be very badass.
Why the ever living f*ck would a goat reprint lust? Originally I was going with the possibility that goat could be related to ram, ram represents Aries, Aries is one of the most lustful zodiac personalities… but no, apparently the goat represents the Devil, lust, lubricity and the damned… so that’s fun - I prefer the butterfly thank you very much.
Apparently frogs symbolize greed because it is a greedy creature in desiring to live in both worlds- on the land & in the water… okay I guess?
& lastly even though the Lion role is also occupied by Kuro within the series, I can understand Wrath not maintaining the original Lion role swing as Wrath is female and they probably wanted a male to hold the depiction of Lion so that the could use the lion’s mane, again, to add to the badass factor… regardless I don’t think Wrath as a lioness would have played out the same way… is it sexist when referring to animals? Whatever - that’s a question for another day.

I am so sorry this random rant turned out WAAAAAAAY longer than I originally intended… I always love your analysis and theory posts so I hope you enjoy :)
YOOO ANON, THAT’S AWESOME! I’ll definitely check that article out!
In return, have this!

We know what piggy ‘dio looks like now! :D
Hopefully this will make your research a little easier?

Krenko’s Guide to Pokemon: Eevee Line Part 2: The Original Trilogy

Art by Alexia Rodriguez
VAPOREON:

Art by Joshua Dunlop
Stats:
With its 130 in HP and 95 Special Defense, Vaporeon is one of the tankier Eeveelutions. 60 Defense is admittedly low, but its HP and Defense still balance out to higher than average durability. Just make sure to train your Vaporeon for defense.
What makes Vaporeon special is that even with its great defenses it has a Special Attack of 110, so your opponent can’t simply ignore its offense the way they can with a lot of defensive Pokemon.
At 65 speed Vaporeon is a bit slow, but that’s ‘below average’ and far from abysmal.

Art by SeviYummy
Abilities:
Vaporeon has the best sort of ability array: one that’s all around good and one that’s narrow but powerful. Water Absorb makes an already defensive Pokemon even harder to take down, giving it options for free switch ins and occasional healing. While Vaporeon is already resistant to water, the jump from resistance to absorption is still a good one.
Vaporeon’s other ability, Hydration, automatically cures Vaporeon’s status conditions in the rain. Now, I mentioned with Lapras that this wasn’t that useful, but Vaporeon’s higher offensive potential means it can deal serious damage in the rain. Combining Hydration with Rest allows Vaporeon to heal to full regularly while dishing out damage and keeps it from being taken down by Toxic.

Art by SoupAnd Butter
Moves:
Scald. The big reason Lapras is a bad tank and Vaporeon is a good one is that Vaporeon can learn Scald and Lapras can’t. With Vaporeon’s worst stat being its physical defense, Scald’s ability to cut an opponent’s damage in half while also doing damage over time is the single most important part of Vaporeon’s arsenal.
The other most important move for a Vaporeon is Wish. As Wish can heal Vaporeon OR another Pokemon based on Vaporeon’s max HP, Vaporeon can use Wish to heal a lot of Pokemon to full, or it just uses it as a recovery ability for itself. On the other hand, with Hydration active, Rest is a full heal with no downside.
For non-Hydration Vaporeon, Heal Bell is a good option, primarily to avoid being taken down by Toxic. Similarly, Haze prevents an opponent from setting up against Vaporeon with Nasty Plot, Swords Dance, and the like.
Vaporeon’s coverage is mostly non-existant. Shadow Ball and Ice Beam are really its only options for alternative attacks. Ice Beam tends to be the better option as it gives Vaporeon an attack against Grass types.
As all Eeveelutions, Vaporeon can learn Baton Pass and Toxic, with the former being part of plenty of broken combinations and the latter a great option for any tank. I’m not going to mention Baton Pass for the rest of these- just assume “Baton Pass is broken good” and that the reason you’re not using it otherwise is because it’s banned in online tournaments.
Overall:
Vaporeon is a really good tank with a solid movepool that lets it do everything it could want.
JOLTEON:

Art by dekunobou-kizakura
Stats:
GOTTA GO FAST!
Jolteon is a damage dealer. It has 130 speed and 110 special attack, so it hits first and it hits hard. Its defenses are a bit lacking, but that’s what happens when you’re going all in on violence. Jolteon’s 95 is in special defense, which is nice, but that leaves its HP and Defense at 65 and 60, meaning it’s very easy to knock out.

Art by CaninePrince
Abilities:
Volt Absorb is a great ability to have, even if the healing doesn’t help Jolteon nearly as much as Water Absorb’s helps Vaporeon. Just being able to get free switch-ins and catch attacks is great, and it’s not as though the healing never matters.
Jolteon’s other ability, Quick Feet, is hot garbage. It spikes Jolteon’s speed when affected by a status condition, but Jolteon’s already one of the fastest Pokemon around, so all it really does is keep it from losing speed from Paralysis. This is useless.

Art by Ivan-Jhang
Moves:
Jolteon’s primary attack is Thunderbolt, or ocassionally Thunder, as a special electric move.
After that… uhhh…
Ummm…
And now we have Jolteon’s problem. The entirety of Jolteon’s coverage options are Shadow Ball and Signal Beam, which is decent but unimpressive.
Jolteon has a few status moves in Yawn and Thunder Wave, which is nice to have on a fast Pokemon but far from unique.
Jolteon’s real advantage move is probably Volt Switch. Though not as strong as Thunderbolt, Jolteon’s ability to reliably go first means it can deliver a solid hit and then get out of the way before the opponent has a chance to counterattack into its abysmal defenses.
Overall:
Going first with a 110 Special Thunderbolt isn’t a bad trick, but it’s really all Jolteon does. Without coverage it’s not a great revenge killer, without buffs it’s not a great sweeper, and without durability it can’t just stand there and slug it out.
FLAREON:

Art by Foxlett
Stats:
With 130 Attack and 110 Special Defense, Flareon seems clearly designed to slug it out with and beat up Special Attackers. Unfortunately, it put its 95 into Special Attack, leaving its HP, Defense, and Speed poor. As is increasingly clear, a middling secondary attack stat is basically never useful. Pokemon only need one attack stat, and Flareon is the only Eeveelution who invested in two. That alone puts it on the path to being the worst one.
Art by MinjixMuu-Chan
Abilities:
Flash Fire, like Volt and Water Absorb, allows Flareon a free switch in, though unlike the other two this one results in an increase in damage rather than a heal, generally making it better than Jolteon’s but not as good as Vaporeon’s. Unfortunately, this damage increase only applies to Fire attacks, and if Flareon switched in to catch a fire attack there’s a decent chance the opponent is a Fire type, thus resistant to FIre.
Flareon’s Hidden Ability, Guts, increases its attack by a whopping 50% when afflicted by a status condition and makes it not lose attack to Burn. Unfortunately, Flareon is a fire type and thus immune to Burn, meaning it can’t simply bring a Flame Orb into battle the way a Machamp or Raticate can. Instead, it has to rely on the far more damaging Toxic Orb. This is still an option, certainly, it just means your Flareon won’t survive very long.
Art by Rihse
Moves:
For a long time, Flareon was held back by having a high attack stat and no physical fire attacks. Then it got one, but it was FIre Fang, which was still garbage. Finally, it received Flare Blitz, which does approximately a million damage and basically kills the Flareon using it.
Flareon’s coverage is quite different from its siblings. As a physical attacker, it can use Iron Tail and, more importantly, Super Power. Like Flare Blitz, Super Power ensures your Flareon is not surviving long. Flareon can also use Return in most generations and learns Double-Edge naturally.
A Guts+Toxic Orb Flareon can make use of Facade to do serious damage with no drawback, minus the part where you’re Badly Poisoned.
With low speed and huge attack, it’s often in a Flraeon’s best interest to learn Quick Attack. Though relatively weak, there will be many situations where it’s the only opportunity to deal damage.
Overall:
Flareon is dead as soon as it hits the battlefield, but if it’s lucky it’ll get a good hit or two in and seriously mess up the enemy. Wasting its 95 on Special Attack really hurts it, and being immune to burn really keeps it from achieving its full Guts potential. In theory, there should be more survivable, defensive builds available to Flareon, but without a physical fire move between Fire Fang and Flare Blitz, you have to hurt yourself to deal any damage worth noting.

I love you early in the morning and it’s difficult to love you. I love the January sky and knowing it will change although unlike us. I love watching people read. I love photo booths. I love midnight. I love writing letters and this is my letter. To the world that never wrote to me. I love snow and briefly. I love the first minutes in a warm room after stepping out of the cold. I love my twenties and want them back every day. I love time. I love people. I love people and my time away from them the most. I love the part of my desk that’s darkened by my elbows. I love feeling nothing but relief during the chorus of a song. I love space. I love every planet. I love the big unknowns but need to know who called or wrote, who’s coming—if they want the same things I do, if they want much less. I love not loving Valentine’s Day. I love how February is the shortest month. I love that Barack Obama was president. I love the quick, charged time between two people smoking a cigarette outside a bar. I love everyone on Friday night. I love New York City. I love New York City a lot. I love that day in childhood when I thought I was someone else. I love wondering how animals perceive our daily failures. I love the lines in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof when Brick’s father says “Life is important. There’s nothing else to hold onto.” I love Brick. I love that we can fail at love and continue to live. I love writing this and not knowing what I’ll love next. I love looking at paintings and being reminded I am alive. I love Turner’s paintings and the sublime. I love the coming of spring even in the most withholding March. I love skipping anything casual—“hi, how are you, it’s been forever”—and getting straight to the center of pain. Or happiness. I love opening a window in a room. I love the feeling of possibility by the end of the first cup of coffee. I love hearing anyone listen to Nina Simone. I love Nina Simone. I love how we can choose our own families. I love when no one knows where I am but feel terrified to be forgotten. I love Saturdays. I love that despite our mistakes this will end. I love how people get on planes to New York and California. I love the hour after rain and the beginning of the cruelest month. I love imagining Weldon Kees on a secret island. I love the beach on a cloudy day. I love never being disappointed by chocolate. I love that morning when I was twenty and had just met someone very important (though I didn’t know it) and I walked down an almost empty State Street because it was still early and not at all late—and of course I could change everything (though I also didn’t know it)—I could find anyone, go anywhere, I wasn’t sorry for who I was. I love the impulse to change. I love seeing what we do with what we can’t change. I love the moon’s independent indifference. I love walking the same streets as Warhol. I love what losing something does but I don’t love losing it. I love how the past shifts when there’s more. I love kissing. I love hailing a cab and going home alone. I love being surprised by May although it happens every year. I love closing down anything—a bar, restaurant, party—and that time between late night and dawn when one lamp goes on wherever you are and you know. You know what you know even if it’s hard to know it. I love being a poet. I love all poets. I love Jim Morrison for saying, “I’d like to do a song or a piece of music that’s just a pure expression of joy, like a celebration of existence, like the coming of spring or the sun rising, just pure unbounded joy. I don’t think we’ve really done that yet.” I love everything I haven’t done. I love looking at someone without need or panic. I love the quiet of the trees in a new city. I love how the sky is connected to a part of us that understands something big and knows nothing about it too. I love the minutes before you’re about to see someone you love. I love any film that delays resolution. I love being in a cemetery because judgment can’t live there. I love being on a highway in June or anytime at all. I love magic. I love the zodiac. I love all of my past lives. I love that hour of the party when everyone’s settled into their discomfort and someone tells you something really important—in passing—because it’s too painful any other way. I love the last moments before sleep. I love the promise of summer. I love going to the theater and seeing who we are. I love glamour—shamelessly—and all glamour. Which is not needed to live but shows people love life. What else is it there for? Why not ask for more? I love red shoes. I love black leather. I love the grotesque ways in which people eat ice cream—on sidewalks, alone—however they need it, whenever they feel free enough. I love being in the middle of a novel. I love how mostly everyone in Jane Austen is looking for love. I love July and its slowness. I love the idea of liberation and think about it all the time. I love imagining a world without money. I love imagining a life with enough money to write when I want. I love standing in front of the ocean. I love that sooner or later we forget even “the important things.” I love how people write in the sand, on buildings, on paper. Their own bodies. Fogged mirrors. Texts they’ll draft but never send. I love silence. I love owning a velvet cape and not knowing how to cook. I love that instant when an arc of light passes through a room and I’m reminded that everything really is moving. I love August and its sadness. I love Sunday for that too. I love jumping in a pool and how somewhere on the way up your body relaxes and accepts the shock of the water. I love Paris for being Paris. I love Godard’s films. I love anyplace that makes room for loneliness. I love how the Universe is 95% dark matter and energy and somewhere in the rest of it there is us. I love bookstores and the autonomy when I’m in one. I love that despite my distrust in politics I am able to vote. I love wherever my friends are. I love voting though know art and not power is what changes human character. I love what seems to me the discerning indifference of cats. I love the often uncomplicated joy of dogs. I love Robert Lax for living alone. I love the extra glass of wine happening somewhere, right now. I love schools and teachers. I love September and how we see it as a way to begin. I love knowledge. Even the fatal kind. Even the one without “use value.” I love getting dressed more than getting undressed. I love mystery. I love lighting candles. I love religious spaces though I’m sometimes lost there. I love the sun for worshipping no one. I love the sun for showing up every day. I love the felt order after a morning of errands. I love walking toward nowhere in particular and the short-lived chance of finding something new. I love people who smile only when moved to. I love that a day on Venus lasts longer than a year. I love Whitman for writing, “the fever of doubtful news, the fitful events; / These come to me days and nights and go from me again, / But they are not the Me myself.” I love October when the veil between worlds is thinnest. I love how at any moment I could forgive someone from the past. I love the wind and how we never see it. I love the performed sincerity in pornography and wonder if its embarrassing transparency is worth adopting in other parts of life. I love how magnified emotions are at airports. I love dreams. Conscious and unconscious. Lived and not yet. I love anyone who risks their life for their ideal one. I love Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera. I love how people make art even in times of impossible pain. I love all animals. I love ghosts. I love that we continue to invent meaning. I love the blue hours between three and five when Plath wrote Ariel. I love that despite having one body there are many ways to live. I love November because I was born there. I love people who teach children that most holidays are a product of capitalism and have little to do with love—which would never celebrate massacre—which would never care about money or greed. I love people who’ve quit their jobs to be artists. I love you for reading this as opposed to anything else. I love the nostalgia of the future. I love that the tallest mountain in our solar system is safe and on Mars. I love dancing. I love being in love with the wrong people. I love that on November 23, 1920, Virginia Woolf wrote, “We have bitten off a large piece of life—but why not? Did I not make out a philosophy some time ago which comes to this—that one must always be on the move?” I love how athletes believe in the body and know it will fail them. I love dessert for breakfast. I love all of the dead. I love gardens. I love holding my breath under water. I love whoever it is untying our shoes. I love that December is summer in Australia. I love statues in a downpour. I love how no matter where on the island, at any hour, there’s at least one lit square at the top or bottom of a building in Manhattan. I love diners. I love that the stars can’t be touched. I love getting in a car and turning the keys just to hear music. I love ritual. I love chance too. I love people who have quietly survived being misunderstood yet remain kids. And yes, I love that Marilyn Monroe requested Judy Garland’s “Over the Rainbow” to be played at her funeral. And her casket was lined in champagne satin. And Lee Strasberg ended his eulogy by saying, “I cannot say goodbye. Marilyn never liked goodbyes, but in the peculiar way she had of turning things around so that they faced reality, I will say au revoir.” I love the different ways we have of saying the same thing. I love anyone who cannot say goodbye

A Lesson in Layering: Suffering Scotland’s Spite
Also called ‘that time I was an idiot and got drenched hiking beside bonny Loch Lomond.’ (Or: ‘A Story about Hypothermia.’)

Layering: it’s an art form, which I always think that I am starting to get somewhat good at until I fail spectacularly. The first time this happened, I contracted hypothermia, but thanks to the (mostly) proper action which I took, I didn’t die from my mistake. On this glorious day in Scotland, trekking the beautiful West Highland Way, I made a mistake which could have killed me.
What is ‘layering,’ you non-hikers/outdoorsy people ask? It’s the art of dressing in layers according to circumstances of weather and temperature. The idea is to wear just the right clothing for the current situation which you exist in so that you are neither too hot nor too cold so that you not only stay happy, but you don’t die because your body is too cold (hypothermia) or too hot (hyperthermia/heat stroke.) Again, both conditions can kill you, so it’s important to take care of yourself and get your layering right if you’re in the backcountry where you may be far from help should something go wrong.
Intimidated? The main rules of layering for outdoorsy pursuits are simple - NEVER wear cotton (once cotton is wet it stays wet - Search and Rescue calls it ‘the death cloth’ and there’s a saying ‘cotton kills’ for a reason - it loses 95% of its insulating value when wet, at which point it also conducts crucial body heat away from you) and choose layers which either dry quickly (such as synthetic fibres like polyester,) or retain their thermal properties when wet (i.e. merino wool.) Wet clothing chills your skin, making you cold - in fact, a primary goal of layering is to avoid sweating, since sweat, like any other liquid when chilled, can cause your internal body temperature to drop, thus giving you hypothermia. And don’t think you’re safe just because of summer as more people fall prey to exposure in summertime than in winter because of a lack of preparedness.
And don’t ever get cocky - for example, just because I have a lifetime of backcountry experience, it doesn’t mean that I am safe from mistakes. Don’t ever dare believe that you’re invincible from peril just because of experience, no matter how impressive, because Mother Nature likes to reward such bravado with hard knocks - or death.

My layering on a day when I used my brain - note the saturated face fabric of my Gore-Tex waterproof shell and my sopping wet hair - it was very wet out! I was significantly less clever on the day of my mishap.
Imagine the lush green forests of Loch Lomond - actually, don’t, here’s a picture to set the scene, from the day I screwed up:

Just a nice cruise along the quiet northern end of Loch Lomond.
It had been sort of spritzing all day and the temperature was mild. Fellow hikers all claimed that it was going to really rain at some point, but none of them could agree about what time that it would. With how every other spritz of rain had passed, I turned decidedly derisive of the truth of any forecast. Scotland had already proved that it did whatever the hell it pleased in terms of weather, so I was just going with the flow, but it was about to prove its derision even more. It was on this day that I learned: Scotland doesn’t care about what the weatherman has to say, but occasionally, it does (sort of) do what is predicted, but only on its own terms.

So, it had basically been overcast all day and it didn’t really look like it was going to do much more, despite the small instances of spritzing. I was focused on slaying kilometres and getting to a certain spot on my map, a hill called Cnap Mor, which lays at the very end of Loch Lomond. I didn’t want to waste time by layering up - and this, folks, could be a fatal mistake. It’s always worth your time to take time layering up or down - better to lose a bit of time putting your pack cover on than have wet gear. But, of course, I was trying to slay kilometres, right? I had a long way to go - I was on Day 3, and I needed to get my butt to Fort William, which was still a vast number of kilometres away.

Definitely the right kind of weather for incomplete rain gear. Definitely.
It was near Ardleish, at the top tip of Loch Lomond that I began to fail myself. Here, on the last shore of the loch on the trail the wind started gusting and the rain started pouring. I donned my Gore-Tex jacket and put on my pack cover; believing that the rain would pass, I didn’t don my rain pants or gaiters, and this is where I fucked up. I thought about it, considered it, then didn’t do it.
I’m very conscious that I could have died because of this slip up. I’m very lucky that I was in Scotland, and not some place like the Rockies, where the temperature would have dropped much lower. Scotland’s temps in April were wonderfully mild - ranging most of the trip around 11 °C - but back in the Canadian Rockies where I most often hike, temperatures regularly drop below freezing at night, even in the heat of summer. Even so, I still could have died in Scotland’s mild weather - most people who meet their maker because of hypothermia do it in mild temperatures which are well above freezing, just like what I experienced that evening in beside Loch Lomond.

Not seen: the wind blasting in my face. And the sheep.
So, like an idiot, I hiked on, wanting to slay more kilometres. I didn’t understand that I should have stopped there - it would have been a good place to camp. I remember thinking all day as well as the one before how nice it would be to maybe camp beside the loch, and this would have been the smart thing, but nope, I decided to hike on.
Very quickly, within the hour, I realized that this was a bad idea, but I refused to turn back, wanting to destroy more distance. Water began running over the trail and I started consciously hunting for a place to stop for the night, but there weren’t any good campsites to be found. I dismissed the one likely candidate I found (while still not donning rain pants or gaiters,) due to fears of nearby widowmakers (dead trees or ones looking likely to fall,) which was probably a wise decision, but I was already making a really bad one. So, I hiked.

And so the trail slowly became a shallow river.
And hiked. The day grew old, but I couldn’t find a place to stop and there were no other hikers left on the trail, the Way completely deserted apart from me. I prospected a few more maybe camping stops, but I was getting very tired, I was soaked to the bone, and the only thing keeping me warm was my continued movement. The water running over the trail was three centimetres deep; it was so wet that even my waterproof socks were saturated - something which wouldn’t have happened had I been wearing my rain pants and gaiters. Everything I was wearing was soaked.

The view of tiny Dubh Lochan from the hillside where I eventually managed to make camp. It was the flattest and driest piece of ground which I could find, which wasn’t saying much. Everywhere else the ground was soaked, and it was soaked there too.
Eventually, I thought that I saw a faint trail leading up from the Way and I clambered up the hillside where I found a somewhat flat piece of ground which was to be my sanctuary. I set my tent up in the pouring rain then clambered inside with my Packtowel to mop it dry of the literal puddles which had gathered inside of it during its pitching. Thankfully, my synthetic sleeping bag was fine, as was my Neoair Xlite mat - so were both of my heavier midlayers and my hiking dress. I slowly peeled off my soaked clothes, blessing the fact that the temperature was actually warm enough for me not to instantly freeze despite being in a state of undress, and snuggled into my sleeping bag.
Then, to add insult to injury, my matches and piezo igniter were also soaked, so I couldn’t cook in my tent’s vestibule as I had planned. A hot meal would have been just the thing after so much suffering, but alas, it was not to be. I ate Cliff Bars and hard cheese for dinner instead, with some mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups for dessert. I made sure that I ate at least five hundred calories, then, as my brain slowly relaxed out of survival mode and I finally fully confirmed that I was safe from hypothermia, my body dry and warm again, I finally let myself sleep.

Scotland’s creeks and rivers are very well fed.
The next morning, all my clothing which I had worn the day before was still extremely wet. Thus, I donned what would become my leg wear for the entire rest of the trail - my rain pants and gaiters. I never again hiked without them - in this environment, it just wasn’t worth it to have another mishap. That night I intelligently took a hostel room in Tyndrum to dry out my gear and I continued the trail as a much smarter person. I’d learned from my mistake, and I never underestimated Scotland again - from then on, I changed my layering as needed. I eventually just started keeping my Gore-Tex jacket around my waist rather than bothering removing my pack to stow it when I didn’t need it (there were precious few good places on trail to do this,) and I learned how to change my upper layers without taking off my backpack at all. Thus, I kept my layering system quick, and I didn’t get soaked again. I almost never removed my pack cover; I kept myself and my gear dry.

Properly layered and comfortable on the second to last day, at the windy top of the Devil’s Staircase between Glencoe and Kinlochleven.
That night by Dubh Lochan, had I not had a dry shelter, sleeping bag and midlayers the night before, hypothermia could have taken me out - and the most important thing you need to know about hypothermia is that it’s a quiet killer. As your core body temperature drops, your body begins to shiver as it desperately tries to bring its temperature back up - but if your temperature continues to plunge, you eventually stop shivering, stop talking (if you can’t speak it is seriously bad news,) and eventually... you just fall asleep - and without intervention, you never get back up. The human body is incapable of tolerating temperature fluctuations of more than a few degrees, so once its internal temperature wavers, things can go south pretty fast.
The moral of the story - layer your clothing, follow your instincts (I repeatedly thought that I should layer up but didn’t,) and change your layers according to circumstance. I failed to layer up and I paid the price - literally - since my mistake necessitated my unplanned stop in Tyndrum to dry my gear so that I could continue my hike. But, an unplanned stop in Tyndrum was much superior to my unplanned demise (and I ended up eating something other than dehydrated hiker chow for supper in Tyndrum at its divine Real Food Cafe, plus I bought a small delicious hoard of Snickers and Scottish chocolate bars. I also bought new socks, which I promptly got soaked within ten minutes the next day. I digress.)

My sanctuary in Tyndrum; I had this entire room all to myself - it was wondrous! (Not seen: my gear spread absolutely everywhere.)
Thank you for teaching me an apparently much needed lesson about layering, Scotland.

Guerilla Advocacy Campaign Process Blog: Climate Change
ART225 Graphic Design
1. Project Proposal
My design campaign is themed around the topic of human-caused global warming and climate change. I hope for people to become more aware of the damage caused by the human population towards the environment, as well as understand the prevalence of climate change by addressing its issues and consequences. It is important because the growing human population continues to depend and harm the environment to meet resource needs. This has caused the mass emission of greenhouse gases, which has proven to cause environmental damage in many natural ecosystems, species, and even the resources we depend on. It is important because it affects our every-day lives, but we have carried a deliberately evasive mindset in addressing and tackling the issue of climate change and global warming. I believe by actively integrating modern and minimalistic design, people will be attracted to ways that they can decrease the effects of climate change, simply by shifting small every-day activities that can go a long way collectively.
I want to present shocking information about climate change such as the rise of global temperature, its effects in species extinction and ecosystems, as well as other “attention grabbers.” I will integrate logos and general designs that are connected to one another but also provide some individual attention, in order to accurately talk about the issue, its effects, why it's important, and what people can do to help the population combat it. There are many species that have been or are currently showing signs of possible extinction. I think documenting animals and some relevant facts about animal conservation and the general scope of their survival during climate change will put a bigger emphasis in the effects of the issue, as well as providing a good connection towards any external links the viewer can access that will allow them expert research to further educate them about this issue. I will allow my brand to be a cohesive brand/look by using color relationships to enhance the looks of the brand, in hopes to make it more in line with the contents of the campaign for flow, as well as integrate appropriate design elements that will further expand the brand to be approachable. This will effectively translate the purpose and meanings of the poster and hopefully become a good inspiration for the viewer to cause action in the climate crisis. I will also put a big emphasis on the individual and renewable energy because they represent hope during this issue, and making them stand out in the campaign will accurately point out the importance of involvement and participation in such times.
I will be further expanding my designs, aiming to add simplistic graphics that will represent specific aspects of climate change, each important in its impacts and longevity of importance while tackling the most important issue of our lifetime.
2. Research
Topic: Climate Change
What are the causes of climate change?
WWF: Causes of Climate Change
The main causes of climate change are:
Increased use of fossil fuels
Deforestation
Increasingly intensive agriculture
Rise of global temperatures
Humanity’s increased use of fossil fuels – such as coal, oil and gas to generate electricity, run cars and other forms of transport, and power manufacturing and industry
Deforestation – because living trees absorb and store carbon dioxide
Increasingly intensive agriculture – which emits greenhouse gases like methane and nitrous oxide
From 1906-2005, the average global temperature rose by 0.74ºC, with most of that warming occurring since 1970. By 2015, the average global temperature had warmed by over 1ºC since pre-industrial times. Sixteen of the 17 warmest years on record have been in 21st century.
NRDC: Global Climate Change: What You Need to Know
- Climate change is a significant variation of average weather conditions
- Tracked and recorded through paleoclimatology data from natural sources such as ice cores, tree rings, corals, and ocean and lake sediments.
- Caused by the refraction of the sun’s rays.
- The prevention of the absorption of the sun’s rays by greenhouse gases can have various climate effects.
- Human caused greenhouse gases is the main contributor to climate change and global warming, adding a heating layer on the sky that resides and warms many natural processes.
- Greenhouse gases (CO2, methane, SO2) have contributed to a 40% increase in the atmosphere’s share of greenhouse gases since pre-industrial times.
What are the direct consequences of climate change?
Climate Change - Signs from the Planet
Since 1880, global temperatures have risen 2.1 degrees F.
Nineteen of the warmest years in human history occurred since 2000.
Carbon dioxide levels are at their highest in 650,000 years.
A 13.1 length decrease of global ice melt occurs every decade.
Arctic sea ice shrank at its lowest in 2012.
Arctic polar ice caps are losing mass, according to satellite data.
Climate Change - Sings from the Planet - Facts
- Average precipitation has risen and is expected to rise, while winters and weather conditions are getting more harsh.
- Rising temperatures will decrease soil moisture, and crop production.
- Sea levels have risen due to glacial ice melt, and combined with tides to cause regional flooding,
= Increased heat, drought and insect outbreaks, all linked to climate change, have increased wildfires. Declining water supplies, reduced agricultural yields, health impacts in cities due to heat, and flooding and erosion in coastal areas are additional concerns.
IUCN: Species and Climate Change
The ways in which climate change is expected to affect species are multiple and complex, but are generally thought to include:
- Loss or degradation of important habitats and microhabitats.
- Changing of environmental thresholds e.g. temperature, water availability/quality beyond those that a species can tolerate.
- Loss of important interactions between two unrelated species, or the arrival of new, negative ones e.g. disease.
- The disruption of environmental cues (e.g. for breeding or migration).
- The direct loss of individual organisms, or even populations, as a result of extreme events.
USA TODAY: One-third of all plant and animal species could be extinct in 50 years, study warns.
- Over 1 million species are at risk of extinction due to human activities.
- About 50% of the species had local extinctions if maximum temperatures increased by more than 0.9 degrees Fahrenheit, and up to 95% if temperatures increased by more than 5.2 degrees Fahrenheit.
Schleuning et al. 2016.
- Animal species that interact with a low diversity of plant species have narrow climatic niches and are most vulnerable to climate change.
- Impacts of climate change on biodiversity can be amplified via extinction cascades from plants to animals in ecological networks.
- Species traits that favour biotic generalization, for example, large body size, may also favour the widespread distribution of animal species across a wide climatic range. Thus, climatic niche breadth and biotic specialization may be indirectly linked via species traits.
Climate change and third world countries:
- IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) predicts climate change will worsen human health conditions such as malaria, and other insect-borne infections, especially in tropical region.
- The IPCC report estimates that approximately 75 million to 250 million people in Africa will be without adequate water and will face food shortages by 2020, as crop productivity will decline by about 50 per cent. Rising temperatures could also result in food shortages for 130 million people in Asia.
- Increased global warming can also pose a threat to national security, affecting food security, which, in turn, can lead to resource conflicts.
What can be done to decrease the effects of/can combat climate change?
NRDC: How can you stop global warming?
1. Voice opinions and bring concerns about climate change directly to elected officials.
2. Power essential shelter with renewable energy resources (solar, wind).
3. Weatherize and invest in energy-efficient home improvements.
4. Investing in energy-efficient appliances.
5. Reduce water waste.
6. Produce less food waste.
7. Conserve energy.
8. Drive/transport energy efficiently.
9. Rethinking public transit such as trains, airplanes, and automobiles.
10. Decreasing carbon footprint by reducing the use of products that produce greenhouse gases to be made.
BBC. Ten Simple Ways to Act on Climate Change.
- Limiting the use of fossil fuels such as natural gas and coal and replacing them with cleaner sources of energy such as renewables.
- “We need to cut CO2 emissions almost in half (45%) by the end of the next decade,”
- Changing the running of industries and market production policies.
- Going car-free or effectively using more cleaner alternatives is the most effective approach against climate change on a social level.
- Renewables such as solar and wind are becoming cheaper across the world.
- Solar, geothermal, bioenergy, hydropower and onshore wind, will be on par with or cheaper than fossil fuels by 2020. Some are already more cost-effective
- The cost of utility-scale solar panels has fallen 73% since 2010
By reducing your consumption of animal protein by half, you can cut your diet's carbon footprint by more than 40%.

4 Ways to Break Your Addiction to Negative Thinking! Did you know that you can be chemically addicted to your negative thoughts?
— Daniel St. Joseph | August 17, 2020

Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay
“Your thoughts carry you wherever you want to go. Weak thoughts don’t have the energy to carry you far!”
It was found that the average person has about 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day. Surprisingly, 80% Were Negative, and 95% were exactly the same thoughts as the day before.
Our tendency to overly concern bad things and ignore good things is likely a result of evolution. Earlier in human history, being alert of dangerous, and negative threats in the world was truly a matter of life and death.
Those who were more adapted to danger and aware of the bad things around them were more likely to survive.
This psychological phenomenon explains why bad first impressions can be so difficult to overcome and why past traumas can have such long lingering effects.
Robert W. Schrauf, Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics at Penn State, conducted a study showing how words provide evidence to how people think and process emotions. In this study, the researchers asked people to list the names of as many emotions unconsciously. These words were then categorized as negative, positive, or neutral.
They discovered that people know significantly more words to describe negative emotions than words to describe positive or neutral emotions. Of all the words participants listed, 50 percent were negative, 30 percent positive, and 20 percent were neutral. And this observation held true across age groups and cultures, suggesting that this a human tendency shared cross-culturally.
Dr. Schrauf also suggests that not only are we all inclined to think negatively, we also involve more profoundly with these emotions. That’s because positive emotions tell us that everything is fine, so there is no need to think about them.
However, negative emotions indicate something is wrong, so we need to pay more attention, time, and energy dealing with these feelings. As Schrauf explains it, “Negative emotions require more detailed thinking, more subtle distinctions. So they require more names.”
Your thoughts are behaviors as well
Choosing thoughts contributes to your experiences because of the consequences associated with those thoughts.
If you choose thoughts that demean and depreciate you, then you choose to become low self-esteem. If you choose thoughts contaminated with anger and bitterness, then you will create an experience of alienation, isolation, and hostility.
When you choose your thoughts, you also choose the physiological events that linked to those thoughts due to the body-mind connection.
For example, imagine biting into a crisp, salty, and crunchy chicken tender. Smell the ketchup and seasoning. Hear the snap of the first bite, taste the explosion of those flavors in your mouth. What happens? I doubt that you begin to salivate, that is, you experience a physiological change in your mouth.
There’s a very powerful connection at work here. Your physiology determines your energy and activity level. If your internal dialogue is negative, then the action will be negative. Your depressed thoughts suppress energy and action. Your body will conform to that central nervous system. You are mentally, behaviorally, and physiologically programming yourself to go through life in a vicious cycle.
You may be with ten different people in a day but you’re with yourself all day, 24/7. You talk and program yourself more than everybody else in your life combined. Some people have tapes that just play over and over in their heads like a continuous loop.
In their famous work, Nobel Prize-winning researchers Kahneman and Tversky found that when making decisions, people consistently place greater weight on negative aspects of an event than they do on positive ones, even when the two possibilities are equivalent.
For instance, people have a stronger negative reaction to losing $20 than the positive feelings they have from gaining $20.

If your internal conversation is full of negative self-talk, it is no wonder why your performance is poor and your life is miserable. Some typical negative statements include:
I’m not smart enough
I’m not attractive enough
I am a loser and can never succeed
I’m so dumb, people will laugh at me
Nobody will listen to a stupid person like me
I’m not from a rich family, there’s no way I can be rich
Negative thoughts can be addicted
Obviously, you may get addicted to drugs, food, and alcohol, but you may also get addicted to your negative thoughts or feelings.
A lot of people want to be positive but it’s so hard, isn’t it?
Maybe you have been negative for so long that your brain just automatically goes towards the negative side. You want to be positive, you want to be happy but for some reason, most days you just find yourself in mystery, slipping into negativity.
It’s due to the fact that you are chemically addicted to your negative thoughts.
You may wonder how am I chemically addicted to a thought?
Here’s the reason:
Once you have a thought that sends an electrical signal from one place to another in your brain at its simplest form. That’s neural signals send something called a neuropetide ( compounds which act as neurotransmitters) down to your body which induces hormone release.
When you think about a really stressful thing, your brain receives that signal, your neuropeptide sends signals down to the adrenal glands — triangle-shaped organs at the top of your kidneys to create the hormones cortisol, aka the stress hormones.

Recently, cortisol has been pained as the evil villain when it comes to stress
If you have thoughts every single day that causes your body to release stress hormones all year long. Guess what? You’re going to become chemically addicted to cortisol which means that your body is going to force the brain to think negatively so that they can get that hit.
Cortisol is a chemical in your brain that tends to flow more freely and spurs negative thoughts. Your brain loves cortisol. Known as an alarm system, your brain releases the chemical cortisol as a way to warn you about imminent danger, and, let’s be honest, that’s pretty helpful at times.
The day I found out I was addicted to negative self-talk
Have you been thinking negatively for 2, 3, 5, 10 years? And now you’re trying to break this thought pattern but you can’t stop going down that route of negativity. Why? Because your body wants you to actually do it as it’s used to those chemicals.
I can tell you that I learned this the hard way. Two years ago, I was listening to a podcast. The guy in the podcast was talking to a psychologist and he said he felt like he was addicted to stress and he started explaining it.
And I talked to myself “Am I addicted to stress?” I worked really well under pressure. I started realizing sometimes I stressed myself out to meet expectations.

Photo by Elijah O'Donnell on Unsplash
I had to consciously calm myself down in the middle of the day knowing that I have created thought patterns stressing me out.
Unconsciously, I continuously searched for opportunities to stress me out because that’s what my body has been used to for a long time.
Positive thoughts can’t save you
How to flip that and become unaddicted to negative thinking? It’s actually simple, but it’s easier said than done.
It’s really hard to become self-aware of negative thoughts. You need to be extremely intentional every single day from the start of your morning.
I once watched a video on youtube called “why positive thinking doesn’t work?”. Imagine I have a bowl in front of me which is filled with water. Then, I put some scoops of dirt into the water. Then, I take a big glass of water and pour it into the bowl. The water is still dirty. I pour another 4–5 glass of water into the bowl. However, this bowl of water is still dirty.
The dirty water represents the negative thoughts you say to yourselves: I’m fat, I’m not good enough to be hanging out with people, you fail a test and think you’re stupid you. There’s tons of dirt in your mind.
When I pour a big huge glass of clean water into the bowl and said “okay I’m going to think positive”. The water is still dirty which explains why positive thinking doesn’t work.
The key thing is negative thoughts should be removed out of your mind
How to become a positive person?
If you don’t feel good, you can’t create the life that you want.
1. Stop Negative Self-Talk
You need to be extremely intentional. As you wake up every day, think about how do you force yourself to think positively. You’re going to look yourself in the mirror and say “I love you, you are amazing” for 10 minutes straight to brainwash yourself into feeling good.
Instead of fixating on past mistakes that cannot be changed, consider what you have learned and how you might apply that in the future.
2. Reframe the Situation
Saying some affirmations that program you for feeling the way you want to feel, thinking the way you want to think because you have been thinking in this freaking negative way for a long time.
Just because you are positive in the morning doesn’t mean it lasts all day long so you’ve got to catch the negative thoughts as soon as possible. You need to become very self-aware of when you start to go down that negative spiral.
The quicker you stop the negative thought, the easier is it for you. If you try to catch the negative thought at the bottom of the spiral, then you lose as you’re already in the negative place
3. Establish New Patterns
Three minutes down the road, you’ve gone through this massive storm of just thinking negative to yourself and now you just feel like you’ve been covered in crap and you don’t feel good. You don’t want to do anything. It all starts with a negative thought and things begin to spiral down.
When you find yourself ruminating on things, look for an uplifting activity to pull yourself out of this negative mindset. You should consciously redirect your attention elsewhere and engage in an activity that brings you joy.
Listening to upbeat music, going for a walk, or reading a good book are all ways to get your mind off negative thoughts.
4. Appreciate Joyful Moments

Photo by Ben White on Unsplash
As negative things might be quickly shifted and stored in your long-term memory, you need to make more effort to get the same result from happy moments.
So when something great happens, take a moment to really concentrate on it. Replay the moment several times in your memory and enjoy the wonderful feelings the memory evokes.
Over time, your memory will store more happy moments than sorrow.
Final Thoughts
The key is to become extremely self-aware as negativity starts. Analyze the causes of that negativity: maybe it’s from somebody in your life, maybe it’s a phone call from your boss, maybe it’s a spouse that you need to get a divorce.
You should notice what send you off that path of negativity and get rid of it as soon as possible and replace that one negative thought with three positive thoughts.
If you tend to have a negative vision, don’t expect to become an optimist overnight. But with practice, eventually, your self-talk will contain less self-criticism and more self-acceptance. You may also become less critical of the world around you.
When your state of mind is generally optimistic, you’re better able to handle everyday stress in a more constructive way. That ability may contribute to the widely observed health benefits of positive thinking.

Top Main Questions That Every New Blogger MUST Answer!
How You Doing? Imagine Joey writing a blog on his life. One good thing will be that we all will get the answer to why “Joey doesn’t share food.” Blogging is just another way to express your views with words, but the catch is that you won’t be speaking with your friends or your peers. There is the whole wide world at your disposal. But what can you do so that everybody reads your blog? Well, this is where I come in. This article will take you through many tips for new bloggers and will allow you to understand the small yet important details of blogging. Do you know what is common between all the successful bloggers that we see today? Well, they didn’t have a rat’s ass idea where they are going with their blog. Neil Patel first started a website similar to Monster.com. Darren Rowse was a casual laborer before he started Pro Blogger. The reason they are successful today is that they learned everything about blogging and implemented it in real time. Most importantly, all the successful bloggers know the topmost 3 elements: SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Keyword Placement with the proper Keyword Density And importantly - How to rank their content. The fact that 95% of all the web traffic won’t go past the first page on Google SERP shows the importance of learning these blogging tips. If you also do not want to lose all your traffic because your page ranks on the second page, then follow these tips for new bloggers.
Start a Blog - Which, When and How Many?
To start a blog, you need a niche, a subject in which you are interested and have knowledge about. Your niche has to be perfect and something which can generate thoughts regularly.
I once saw a reality TV show about singing. One auditionee there was a software engineer, and he claimed to design software for his voice. I am NOT bragging, but come on man! That is why a niche is important. Pick a topic which interests you every time you talk about it, also ensure that your niche has some value in the market. That is the first and foremost of many tips for new bloggers. Never choose a personal topic like why you love cats. if you want to write about cat’s behavior and how to train cats among other things, this can be a good and profitable blog. You can get advertising revenue from various businesses running a pet store. Secondly, there is when to blog? How many posts do you ask? Well, apologies for disappointing you, but there is NO one answer to this. The ultimate goal is to build your authority. And to do that you need to plan your posts well in advance. The best blogging tip that I can give you in this matter is that you need to think like a reader. Your audience is the target and put yourself in their shoes. How often would you like to know about the cat behavior (the one that you love so much)? Probably, once a week or twice or daily (if you are mad about it). So, you need to have an understanding of your audience and what kind of information will they like and how often. With every passing year, Google is getting hungrier. It needs more and more words in your blog to consider it worthy. “Thou Who Shall be Worthy shall rank First on my Page.” So, to be Google-worthy, you need to pass its algorithm and remember, Thor had to basically die to be worthy. What can you do? I have gone through a number of tips for new bloggers and understood that every blog should be more than 1500 words to start with. This will allow you with keyword placement, keyword linking and other metrics that make for a good SEO strategy.
Tips for new bloggers, Make a good first impression:
How to start blogging? Think of your first blog post as a cover letter to the whole wide world. This is what I call a challenge. Yes, fighting kaiju’s and that too below water is hard. But convincing someone that why they should read your post even though they don’t know you is not as easy as it looks. Your first blog has to be about YOU, WHY THIS BLOG, THE NICHE, THE AUDIENCE, WILL IT HELP THEM, AND WHAT YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE WITH THIS BLOG. This is the best of many tips for new bloggers that I can give you. You need to convince each and every one of your reader that your blog will help them solve a problem, or gain knowledge or simply will help them understand something. Next, we will talk about how does your blog looks? This is one of the less known and rarely shared one among tips for new bloggers. Assuming that you will start your blog through WordPress, I will discuss how to describe your blog. WordPress themes are pre-customized to give your blog a set direction. From the look of it, the person can recognize what kind of blog are you running.
Blogging for beginners is fun and a learning experience. Some of these themes are free, and others are paid, so for a beginner, a free theme will suffice. There are themes with cater to a news blog, some are good for corporate blogs, and some of them will look good on a food blog. There are a few other aspects that you will need to understand before running a successful blog. Another of my favorite tips for new bloggers is given comprehensively regarding the naming of your blog. So, follow How to come up with a blog name and domain in less than 30 minutes. Also, the internet is filled with resources and blogging tips for beginners. For instance, pro-blogger is a blog dedicated to everything related to blogging. There are many similar blogs and informative guides, just like the one you are reading right now. All these guides and articles are written by experienced bloggers who have learned it the hard way. And now they want to share the best experiences with everyone who is looking to start their own blog. Let’s talk about traffic generation, subscribers and dollars: Earning money through blogs is a process and believe me, when I say, it will take some time. It involves traffic generation, you must drive traffic to your blog. Then comes subscriptions and finally on the basis of your subscribers and daily readers you can go on to earn something good out of your blog.
First thing’s first, how to get traffic so that you can turn them into subscribers. To do that you need to learn a few things first. Starting with writing amazing blog posts. Not that it needs explaining, but I am adding it to my tips for new bloggers that your blog post has to be amazing. Understand that the topic that you will choose is for someone and it is based on adding to the knowledge of the reader. Primarily, if they are searching for what you have written means that you know something that your reader doesn’t. Which gives you the perfect opportunity to fill the void. Just write what you know and in a manner which will help the reader Gain something. Remember, if they wanted plain and mundane information Wikipedia has everything they want. The million dollar answer is you need to write good and for the right audience. Once people find your blog interesting and feel that it is adding to their limited knowledge, they will surely follow you. The key is to build your authority and maintain it. After this, things become easier, and you will be one step closer to making money out of your blog. Talking about money, what’s the rush buddy? I guess you know that Rome wasn’t built in one day. So, hold your horses and implement a strategy first then you can think about money. A new blog will not start making money instantly, not as long as you have a magic wand. There are a few revenue models that you work with to start making money with a blog. For example, if your blog is providing information on let’s say good interior designing. Then your local furniture and interior designing agencies will ask you to run their advertisement on your blog. Other models are affiliate marketing or even direct marketing where you can sell a product through your blog and earn a commission.
Tips for new bloggers regarding guest posts: Awesome! So you are getting offers by other contributors to write on your blog. Irrespective of this aspect you should know what to do in this scenario. Guest posts are an easy way to increase your traffic.
Going forward when you have a considerable number of visitors on your blog, the readers would want you to publish more Frequently. And the best method to do that is allowing guest posts. It will surely help you drive more traffic, diversify, inculcate a different point of view. But, take caution that there are no spam posts unrelated to the topic. That the readers are still getting the information and content, they want to read, and most importantly, you sustain the right to edit these posts.
Things to do in the first three months of Starting a Blog:
Here are some specific and streamlined tips for new bloggers and what you need to do in the starting. Set Goals: Nothing good will come if you are shooting blind arrows in the air. I have mentioned earlier that blog writing should be streamlined and should follow a set trajectory. You need to be perfectly sure of what you are going to do, how many posts are required, what kind of audience you should target. Think about your Keywords: It is going to be the 8th wonder of the world, sorry 9th (8th wonder is that DC is still surviving) if your blog ranks without a keyword. Do thorough keyword research before you start writing. Take care of keyword variation, placement and use high volume keywords. Use Google trends and analyze which keyword is more popular for your niche. Focus on One Social Media Platform: Remember, the focus is your customer and not your second favorite friend. So, stick to that platform which has the highest number of audience. Most probably, it will be Facebook. So, stick with it and post regularly. Target the readers, use appropriate hashtags and whatnot. All this is to let people know that you are writing a blog and it is based on this subject. Start commenting on other blogs: Now, I am not asking you to write your thesis on someone else’s comment section. Instead, keep it simple and appreciate what the other person has written. Share what you like about the post and then go home. Plus, it will be a plus if you make your profile on Gravatar for commenting. Understand Google Analytics: There is no shortage of tips for new bloggers which I can give you. But without this, everything is just a plain exercise. What is the purpose of writing if you do not know whether or not it is driving traffic. That is where Google Analytics comes in. You need to learn it, understand it and implement it. All because knowing is half the problem solved. So, as long as you do not know your blog’s performance, there is no point in working on it. Understand Search Console: Neil Patel says that the Google Search Console is the most overlooked marketing tool. You need to use it to see how Google sees your website. You can tailor your content to invite more organic traffic and also resolve spam issues.
Conclusion!
Now, that I have reached the last part of my guide titled “Tips for new bloggers” I would like to conclude it by saying that blog writing is a thing of the present. People are still growing up to the idea of internet in some regions of the world. And there is a whole lot of area to reach yet. So tighten your seat belts because you are in for the long haul. Most importantly, write for a set purpose and a set goal if you want to go professional in blog writing. Else, the whole internet is an A4 sheet for you, write as much as you can, nobody is stopping you.

The Truth About Whole Grains And Beans: What Traditional Cultures Know About These So-called "Healthy Foods"

Here's the deal: wheat (and most grains) and beans are two foods that include lectin (as well as gluten and phytic acid) in significant quantities.
Lectin, alongside gluten and phytic acid, is one of the greatest anti-nutrients in our diet. Anti-nutrients are (clearly) foods that do NOT help us.
Lectin (and other anti-nutrients) interfere with digestion and disrupt the natural absorption of nutrients.
These anti-nutrients are intricately involved in the breakdown of the lining around our connective tissue and healthy cells, as well as the breakdown of our gut lining.
Once this gut lining "breach" happens, we have effectively opened up the door to any number of toxins entering our bloodstream.
Many of you have already heard about gluten, whether via nutrition info or just the plethora of gluten-free products in your supermarket. It's a major factor in the lives of those who have celiac disease (whether diagnosed or undiagnosed), but even more pressing is the fact that over 33% of the population may have a gluten sensitivity.
For those with just the sensitivity, their conditions will not be as severe as someone with celiac disease, but they can definitely feel adverse effects anytime they eat gluten-rich foods (effects ranging from simple headaches or stomach discomfort all the way to more severe internal deficiencies, weight retention, and breakages in gut lining).
In any case, gluten is probably not the best compound we want in our foods, and for this reason, I always recommend gluten-free, natural foods in your diet. And as always, as long as you keep foods with gluten (and other "junk") to a minimum 10% of your calories, you should be fine.
The main part of this chapter will talk about lectin, which is much less commonly known, but still as harmful to our bodies. Our discussion will focus mainly on the linings around our cells, which are adversely affected by lectin-rich foods from both a toxin-entry perspective and a pain/discomfort perspective.
Geek Alert: This chapter gets a little technical
For starters, N-Acetyl-Glucosamine is a naturally-occurring sugar produced in our body, in the glycocalyx, which is essentially a mucus-like lining on our endothelial cells (blood/lymph vessels). This glucosamine is found primarily on the cells around our connective tissue and cartilage (though it is also found elsewhere). In the best case scenario, we have ample supplies of glucosamine, and as a result have well-lubricated, highly functioning joints.
The only issue is: we're not in a best-case scenario. In reality, glucosamine is a dwindling commodity in our bodies.
For the most part, our glucosamine (and the tissues/cartilage they protect) wears down due to:
1. General wear and tear, and a lack of proper strengthening/mobility work
2. A specific protein, called lectin, found in many foods we eat (especially wheat and beans).
a. This lectin binds with glucosamine and penetrates the aforementioned cell walls that are part of our cartilage, connective, and more.
b. (Note: in addition to glucosamine, lectin also prefers to bind with sialic acid, which is also found in the mucus-like lining around our cells)
The strengthening/exercise part is all found in the exercise manuals of this Extreme Fat Loss Formula.
But let's delve deeper on this mysterious compound called lectin.
Here's the background:
Wheat lectins (wheat germ agglutinin or WGA is the proper term) protect wheat plants in the wild from insects, bacteria, and yeast. They do this by binding to the glucosamine found in chitin (in insects) and cell membrane walls (in bacteria and yeast) that try to "attack" it. In doing so, it acts as a toxin, thereby protecting itself.
It's survival of the fittest, at its finest. Evolution has specifically given most plants a defense, and this is what wheat plants have. This scenario repeats itself over and over again in other "earth-y" foods such as beans and nuts (as well as many other lectin/phytic acid-rich foods).
The bad part is: when humans consume these foods, they are also exposed to the plants' "survival" toxins. As expected, the lectin binds to the glucosamine (and sialic acid) in our bodies, and a steady deterrent/toxic effect is created.
In small amounts, the binding of lectin and glucosamine breaks down our cartilage, tissues, and other mucus-like linings. Recall, from above, that lectin also likes binding with sialic acid. This 2nd line of lectin/sialic acid binding breaks down the lining especially in our gut and other mucous-like tissues (often in the brain and nose).
When this lining is penetrated, the WGA makes its way through and introduces inflammation and autoimmunity.
This essentially means the body can't differentiate between itself and foreign invaders, so it recklessly attacks everything including healthy cells and tissues.
No bueno.
----
(Note: Read below if interested in even more geeky science of the 'how' behind lectin. Otherwise, skip over this section.)
We've established that the wheat/beans essentially need a means of self-preservation, and it knows it can accomplish this by binding and penetrating at certain "weak" points. This is the "why".
But what about the "how"?
Well, these lectin proteins contain a sort of "key" that only fits a certain type of "lock" (the 'lock' being a specific naturally-occurring sugar i.e. glucosamine and sialic acid). As mentioned, these locks are located in many places including the gut wall, connective tissue, cartilage, and mucosal lining, in addition to arteries, glands, or organs.
Yes, as you may be realizing, these "locks" are just about EVERYWHERE --- glad you're catching on!
When a lectin with the correct key comes in contact with one of these sugar 'locks', it opens the lock - just as your house key fits in perfectly at your front door.
Once this door is open, the 'free flow' of inflammation and autoimmune events can flood in, thereby disrupting healthy cellular function. This is thought to be the starting point of widespread cell damage, cell death and the growth of various modern diseases.
----
Long story short, this is pretty grisly stuff.
For this exact reason, wheat is a major no-no in my Extreme Fat Loss Formula, especially from a longevity perspective. It's sometimes tolerable from a fat loss perspective, but honestly, I consider it to be a "junk" food. As such, I rarely eat it outside of my 10% junk limit for the day. If, and only if, it's filling enough to help you stick to your plan, then include it in small amounts (make sure its 100% whole wheat.)
For this same reason, beans, nuts, and even some natural grains like rice are subject to an overnight "soaking" in water to remove as many of the lectins (and phytic acid, both antinutrients) as possible. The foods should soak for at least 12-24 before cooking. Note that heating is an important step since studies have shown it can further reduce the level of active lectins in food (of course you'll be heating rice, but make sure you also heat beans and lightly roast nuts. Heavy, high heat roasting of nuts activates oxidized cholesterol which is not good.)
