Me, several years ago: "I'll never try digital 3D art... just have no interest to learn it. Already have learned other art forms that I barely use anyway... so why add to that ?..."
Me, currently: [Is attempting to model a donut in Blender] "... uh... I can explain..."

Hey um can you tell me what app you use to animate Pomni to moving like that?
I want to animate my character to move like that but I need the app for me to do it
Plz
oh, of course!! :D
i'm using krita, which is a free art program :) it's got an animation feature that covers what i'd consider all the essentials [layers, onionskin, timelines, etc.]... anddd you can export the animation straight from krita so that's a big plus to me who doesn't have a proper editing software
Tumblr media
it's not perfect perse [the animation playback is a bit laggy and the audio feature is sadly busted] but i think it's still really good for being free so i'd suggest trying it out!
and sorry if you're a mobile person i really don't know anything good for phones :')

But look at us Luke, we're the ones left alone, holding some rich monster's pain. All of existence, built on his violence. All of space-time, humming to life with a single inviolate rule. Give the hero something to punch.

Women’s Soul Reaper Association Interview
By Shuhei Hisagi
Interview of the President of the Women’s Soul Reaper Association Lieutenant, Yachiru Kusajishi, and Vice President of the Women’s Soul Reaper Association, Nanao Ise by Lieutenant Shuhei Hisagi from the Seireitei Bulletin
SH: Hello ladies, it’s good to have you here.
YK: Hiiii Hisa-Hisa!
NI: Thank you for having us.
YK: Yeah! Thank you!
SH: So you guys are running the Seireitei Sexyman Tournament
NI: Yes, we’ve been working very hard at it and we are very pleased so far.
SH: So tell me, how did you come up with the idea.
YK: It was my idea!
SH: It was… your idea?
NI: Well sort of…
YK: It was! When Kenny and I went to the World of the Living looking for Ichi, we heard some people talking about a big thing, it was a… tumbler sexyman tournament I think? Then I came back and suggested we do one of those. I’m still not clear on what it is but it’s very fun!
SH: Ah I see.
NI: Once she told us about it, we, and by that I mean I, researched it to see what it was that she was actually suggesting we do. Once we did, we thought it sounded like a great idea. It combined the motivation we had during our photoshoot fundraiser, but doesn’t violate the subjects’ right to privacy.
SH: You’ve marketed this tournament as a fundraiser. How exactly are you making money off of this?
NI: Well, the thing is, we were so excited planning it that we didn’t actually think of a way to make money off of it.
SH: That does clear some things up.
YK: But it’s fun though, so who cares?
NI: *sigh*
SH: So anyway, how do you think the tournament is going so far?
NI: I think it’s doing well in terms of popularity and distribution. There has also been a decent amount of campaigning for various competitors. It’s lovely to see people getting so into it.
YK: I was campaigning for Kenny!
NI: Vice President, you don’t even know what this tournament is about.
YK: Nope! But I think Kenny should win anyway.
SH: Uh, moving on, might I ask for comments regarding the large delay between the quarterfinals and semifinals, the later of which has not yet been sent out?
NI: Unfortunately, that was due to a problem with the program that we used to make the tournament. The app that Miss Inoue from the World of the Living recommended us to use kept crashing and causing our computer to freeze up.
SH: Wow, that is very unfortunate.
NI: I know, I was so ashamed that I was unable to fix it.
YK: It’s okay Na-Na, computers are mean.
SH: So, have you been able to fix it?
NI: Yes we have. We’ll begin getting the polls ready as soon as this interview is posted.
SH: Excellent. I have one final question, and this one is not from me.
NI: I’m a little wary, but go ahead and ask.
SH: During my brief interview with him, he expressed interest in wanting to sponsor the tournament. And he’s asked me to ask you if you’d let him be a sponsor.
NI: You mean… You mean we can actually make money off of this tournament now?!
SH: Uh, yeah, that’s what he was proposing, pay you to get his name on the bracket. He says it’ll be a good advertisement.
NI: Absolutely yes. We would be honored.
SH: And that’s all I have for you. Thank you both for being here.
NI: Thank you for having us.
YK: Thanks Hisa-Hisa!

happy Weblog Wednesday, its time for cancan color editing how-to
So, step one is make an animation. I'm not telling you how to do that here. Learn to animate elsewhere. I made this delightful little 8 frame loop, so simple.
Tumblr media
BUT I kept each layer of each frame separate, so instead of just exporting that one gif, I exported each set of layers as its own gif. That's 5 gifs total. In order, these are lineart and pink bits, fur/skin, clothes, hair floof, and a extra layer of shading for the floof (which i made very hurriedly and poorly. hence why there's random green bits in there. the hair didn't even need to be green for this i didnt chromakey it)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If I wanted to get real fancy I could've like. Made all the clothing articles separate too, but that seemed like overkill. I do wish I'd made their freckles separate tho, I could've been way more creative with those. Oh well, next time.
Then, I re-lined 'em all up in After Effects, so I could do different effects on each layer! Makes editing very easy. The two main After Effects tricks at work for this video are Track Matte and the Hue effect.
Tumblr media
[my full layer list, if that interests anyone. look at all those jpegs.]
Track Matte is how I did the "chowder thing" on their hair. There's lots of ways to get that effect, but this is the easiest I've found. You link the image you want shown to the layer you want it shaped like and it uses that layer's alpha channel, just like the clipping or layer masking features in stuff like Photoshop. The reference layer moves, but the texture doesn't.
Now, the Hue effect does a lot more than just change the hue. It's actually got sliders for the saturation and lightness in there too. The HANDY thing about it is it lets me keyframe these values, so I can animate them changing! That's how I get the colors to nicely gradient from one song to the next (and how I set colors to shift Continuously in an epic rainbow loop for the caramelldansen bit :3) It also means I didn't have to export a separate gif for each song! Like I did for most of Blue's playlist. After Effects make editing gif speed this easy Please.
There's lots more After Effects bullshit that went into this, like the tedious process of making a gif loop properly, or makeshifting a drop shadow by duplicating and blurring a copy of the gif, but I don't know how interesting or important all that is. I think I've rambled plenty. Send me an ask if you want more of this :]
youtube
Video is up for reals! Enjoy some party jams and pretty CanCans :3
