The amount I am longing for a snarky "How ya doin' in Desert Bluffs" episode for episode podcast of an outsiders view of their town
I've just started listening to the Welcome To Night Vale podcast, and I'm pretty sure that everyone in Night Vale only hates Desert Bluffs because they're the normal version of Night Vale.

Edit 2: It's possible I was lied to but I am plugging my ears and closing my eyes it's canon to MEEEEE

I think it's really important to have POC and Queer characters at the forefront of podcast instead of side characters! I try to make that clear with my podcast "Gemin😞👁." One of the main characters(parents born in India) is an Southern-Indian-American Lesbian, while her bff is non-binary and Filipino-American. While also have a trans female main character. I know alot of the time this inclusion can feel forced, like we're just fun accessories to add into stories. These are just the characters I've been developing since middle/high school.
It just so happens that they're all queer, much like my friend group, and mainly minorities, just like my friend group. Not to mention neurodivergent.
With supernatural elements, contaminated woods, and school dances, Gemin👁 beings the worst fears of the town to life.
Gemin👁 follows three teens in their senior year at Ellsworth Academy finding mysteries and secrets a out their town. All connected to the shining beacon Ellsworth has clung onto. They use the audio club as a way to help string together clues and find out more information.
Episodes 1-2 are out but aren't the best, but more are coming soon, along with comics and art. We're currently trying to find our audience! Just type Gemin👁 on spotify and look for Rockie!

Everybody loves a disheveled boy in horrible situations (see: malevolent, TMA, ect) and so do I.
I turn to you, oh benevolent tumblrinas to build a better boy.
Any ideas welcome, I will assemble them at a later date. I will be including some other podcasts in the tags to cast a wide net for ideas.
Thank you for your time.

My favourite remains
"Death is only the end if you assume the story is about you"
Which is genuinely comforting to those who have lost someone.
I miss when everyone on my dash listened to Welcome to Night Vale so there’s be a good chance that on any ole day someone would reblog a quote that would grab me by the throat and forcibly ascend me to a higher plane where I understood myself and the universe better and with more kindness but also a little spook

One thing I do like about The Boy arc and basically any time adult Tamika is mentioned is this concept of growth we follow we her.
Once she was a child then a teen who led and armed militia and used violence at all turns, but she was still a kid and giggled when she was on Cecil's show and spoke childishly of what she was doing and going through - hiding the actual trauma of the Summer Reading Programme.
She took on a lot of responsibility at a young age making herself a member of city council, and had to sort things out in ways that weren't familiar. But she wanted to start doing things fairly, to not instantly jump to violence and anger. She'd lived like that too long.
And the adult Tamika is struggling in a world where she's no longer a 'cool teen'. Even Cecil remarks once that he misses when she was part of a teen militia and would solve things with violence. I'm sure many of us are guilty of preferring 'the old Tamika'.
But Tamika Flynn is her own woman, she's committed to the world being kinder than it was to her through her childhood. She's committed to creating a world where violence doesn't have to be the answer because the problems aren't so large.
She's a person, not a hero or some folkloric figure and it wasn't fair that she had to take that role so young. She hasn't had a childhood, as cool as may think she was. But who she is now is just as important and I wish her happiness.

listening to wtnv in 2024 makes me understand immediately why tumblr over a decade ago thought this shit was the coolest thing ever. it casually but flawlessly parodies the us surveillance state, ultra-militarized police forces, inane human resource bureaucracies and the blasé of the suburban middle class all within the span of three episodes with a very tongue in cheek slice of life format that doesn’t sound possible on paper but is executed absolutely absurdly well
