as a big proponent of Making Your Own Webbed Site For Your Webbed Comic myself, it bothers me how, every time naver webtoon gets caught mistreating specifically its contracted artists, that news gets used as a jumping off point to promote self hosting/reading self hosted comics... it feels like a self-interested distraction from the actual issue of "this company is screwing over people it has contracts with"

white guy from a country where everyone and their mom has names like John Baker and Jake Smith and Sarah Johnson and Chris Williams and Josh Brown:
its just reeeeaallyyy suspicious that your name is ahmed or mohammed :/ ummmm bot alert! scammer! yes my country is actively supplying weapons to kill palestinian people and i've donated $500 to ao3 in the past 6 months but what about my moneeeyyyy?????? anyways anyone i disagree with is part of a belgian scam ring. this is a logical step rather than viewing brown people as human beings for once in my life

Someone on instagram was "worried about me" allegedly and i got a link to resources 😒🙄 i have to tell myself this was just AI bc if anyone i know would actually click a "uh-oh hope you're not too sad" button on me instead of sending a message saying "uh-oh hope you're not too sad, but if you are here's a cute animal video" then why are we friends???

the thing abt mental illness that sucks is. the stuff that people tell you makes it better doesn't actually always make it better in the moment. and it's hard when ur low energy but i think a lot of people get this idea of "it doesn't help so i'm not going to do it" but sometimes you gotta reframe it and see it as like. okay this doesn't make it better but it's also not going to make it worse. like washing your face might not make you feel better but it also won't make it worse. gentle exercise won't necessarily make you feel but it won't make you feel worse. going outside isn't going to fix anything but it also won't make it worse. trying to see them as neutral things rather than a magic cure. and the thing is over time when these things build up and it becomes routine, it DOES make it better. but it takes time and consistency. in the meantime though it won't make it worse.

There are Other Things on The Internet Than Reddit
Here's a Lego forum
Here's one for CDs
Here's one for Bionicle
Tech Support and Repair
The blog I used to set up a virtual machine
Anime Anime Manga
Like, anything technical
These are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head and is nowhere near an exhaustive list of just the forums that I have personally used to find valuable information. This isn't even including wikis, independent archives, blogs, magazines, etc etc etc.
Reddit actually isn't the only place on the internet to get information it was just the easiest :)))) The entire rest of the internet didn't die because you stopped using it. :)))
I've never found it anywhere near as helpful as any of these other sources, largely because of the low barrier for entry, lack of specialization, and dogshit culture. People who spend all their time on sites you've never heard of actually know more about the shit their website is dedicated to.

🇷🇺 Another chapter in the history of instant messaging comes to a close as on August 20, 2024 VK announces the shutdown of Mail.ru Agent, following in the footsteps of ICQ. Both of these iconic messengers once defined how we communicated online, especially in the early 2000s.
📟 ICQ, launched in 1996, was the pioneer of instant messaging, developed by the Israeli company Mirabilis. With its distinctive “Uh-oh!” message alert, ICQ became the go-to platform for millions around the world, allowing people to connect in real-time long before social media took off. ICQ was later acquired by AOL in 1998, but as competition grew, its popularity faded. VK eventually took over ICQ, and despite various updates, the messenger couldn’t regain its former glory.
📧 Mail.ru Agent was Russia’s response to ICQ, launched in 2003 as an integrated messaging service. It quickly became popular, especially in the Russian-speaking world, offering not just instant messaging but also voice and video calls. Over time, however, the rise of more advanced messaging platforms led to a decline in its user base. Now, VK, the company that merged with Mail.ru Group, has decided to discontinue Mail.ru Agent, marking the end of an era.
💔 The shutdown of these two messengers is a reminder of how quickly the digital landscape evolves. As we say goodbye to these icons, we also reflect on the nostalgia and the early days of online communication.

‘filtering out content about upsetting current events on social media is wrong and disgusting because you’re basically looking away and remaining ignorant’ is a weird bit of discourse to me. as much as we like to joke about being terminally on tumblr it’s pretty wild to assume someone doesn’t have, like, a life outside of the fandom stupidity website and that tumblr is the only source of information they could possibly have access to. buddy some of us actually do read the old fashioned news and talk to people i actually don’t need to hear you specifically talk in order to understand that the world is a nightmare. i use this website to scroll through pretty pictures
