THE THIEF AND THE PROPHET  CHAPTER 2: 【 THE DEVIL'S HANGED MAN 】
「 The celebrations have begun! It's a joyous time of laughter, reminiscing, and preparation in the days leading up to the wedding of Dolores and Mariano. Well...for everyone else, at least.
Bruno finds himself a little overwhelmed by all the festivities, feeling a lot of pressure to not make accidentally 'ruining weddings' a tradition of his.
It doesn't help that the strange talisman he won in a dice game is attracting a lot of unwanted attention when it's revealed that the jewel merchant is said to be a 'gold thief' who lures people in with stories and 'fools gold' in exchange for real gold.
Meanwhile, the mysterious jewel merchant, Chel, returns home, where she mopes in a bath after finding another gray hair. Thankfully, her sister, Inés, is there to boost her spirits, as are the magical charms of her youngest nephew, Vito.  」 ✨| CHAPTER 3:  A flashback to almost 12 years ago right before Mirabel's ceremony and Bruno's disappearance. Chel returns to The Encanto with her family and has a conversation with a mysterious stranger.
Thank you so much for waiting patiently for this chapter! There's a lot of information leading into the next. Everything has meaning and nothing is a mistake. Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback! HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13th!

Alma!!!
Some Alma-centric aus. And I guess Mirabel for the first one??? Technically??? You know I'm not entirely sure myself and I made the au 🌚
Anywayyyyy just some quick sketches that I ended up doing today. The first is basically Camilo and Alma, playing in the pudding left around Casita from Pepa. Not entirely sure what cause the rain, but the point is that Pepa and Felíx notice. Mostly Pepa.
Pepa by this point would've also noticed how uptight Mirabel would've been acting and figured that it wasn't cause of the no gift anymore. She would've also noted how Mirabel responds and looks up first whenever Pepa is talking to her mother.
Fun fact they swap bodies but their hair acts weird lol. Mirabel makes Alma's hair coil in some places while Alma make's Mirabel's turn slightly gray LMAOOOO
another fun fact/idea was that the longer they spend out of their own bodies the more they begin affecting the other. Something like their souls and bodies swapped.
Tumblr media
The second is just WDTAA. I haveeeee no idea where I was going (as per usual). I mostly wanted to come up with some rough draft for the vision. I wanna say it has something more to do with the actual magic and stability of the Encanto. While I know the magic is reliant on the family and their relationship/dynamics, the magic in this au would be faltering for one reason or another besides that.
Alma's logic is that Mirabel stabilized the candle and when she pulled away it flickered. Alma figures that she must be the problem, so she leaves the candle to Mirabel and dips.
Originally I was going to do a snippet of the family finding Alma gone. Her door would've gone dark. The other family would try to open it to no avail. Even Luisa can't pry it open with brute force. It's only when Mirabel tries to open it does it actually open and change. Though, Alma's room isn't completely gone. On one side, the outer facing side, is Mirabel. On the inner side, facing the room, is Alma. Though the room changes to be more fitting for Mirabel, obviously.

There I go yapping again

(The hotel crew and other hellmates, including the Overlords, sing the last verse of "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from Encanto together while also doing the full choreography from the film. Vaggie is on the side dressed like Mirabel holding her clipboard.)
Vaggie: No, no, no! I had it all worked out.
(She takes off her glasses and throws them on the floor. Charlie walks in dressed like Julieta.)
Charlie: What? It's a good song! Don't you like it?
Vaggie: It's ridiculous!
Charlie: Yeah, and exciting!
Vaggie: Yeah, well, so is a blowtorch.
Charlie: Why don't you like this song, Vaggie?
Vaggie: I don't want to get into this.
Charlie: You promised, Vaggie.
Vaggie: That's enough, now; can we just stick with the script?
Charlie: Vaggie, this isn't fair!
Vaggie: I've had enough! I'm putting a stop to this nonsense!
(Vaggie walks over to the rest of the crew until Vox throws a purple slushie in her face. Velvette, Vox, and Valentino are shown at the bar dressed like Senora Pezmuerto, Osvaldo, and the Bald Priest respecitvely.)
Valentino: Not so fast, Vagina!
Velvette: Yes! We love this song!
(The hotel crew and the hellmates hold hands while circling around Charlie and Vaggie like children until the song ends)
Charlie: Vaggie, don't look.
Vaggie: Just roll the credits, Charlie... roll the credits.

Bruno loudly saying "MiraBEL" to get her attention when she's spiraling is such big uncle energy.
Like you know he's already super familiar with this because of how overwhelmed Pepa can get, and how when things start to build for her she just rambles on, fueling her own panic ("great now I'm thundering and a thunder will lead to a sprinkle and--")
So when Mirabel starts going OFF about Isabela instead of, you know, trying to figure out how to save the miracle or whatever he's just like, "Dios mio it's genetic."

i keep adding things to this one post and then realizing they'd make more sense as a separate post. so here's how the party explained what happened in dagger ending au to bonnie:
Siffrin was very sad and worried about everyone leaving, because he was alone before he met us and he didn't want to be alone again. But he didn't talk about it because we all had plans that seemed very important, and he didn't want to get in the way, and he didn't want to admit that he didn't have anything else to do. It sounds pretty silly when you put it like that, but the rest of us were nervous to admit how much we cared about each other, too! Sometimes it's hard to tell someone how important they are to you, if you don't know whether you're important to them.
During the quest it was okay, because Siffrin knew we would stay together until Vaugarde was saved. But getting to Dormont meant the quest was almost over, and they got so upset at the idea of everyone leaving, that they didn't really care about what they were doing. Why did it matter what happened to them, when they were going to be sad and alone tomorrow either way? So they weren't very careful while they were training, and they got hurt. Luckily Odile saw, and Mirabelle healed them right up.
Now, he's really glad that we all decided to stay together longer! But he might still feel worried for a while, because it's hard to believe that everyone isn't leaving, after he's been dreading it for so long. And sometimes when you're sad for a long time, your brain just tries to keep being sad even when there isn't any reason to be. But if we keep reminding him that we love him just as much as he loves us, it'll start to stick in his brain better! We might also need to remind him to be careful and take care of himself, because that can be hard to remember when you're sad. And while he practices that, we can help take care of him, too!
#bonnie: oh you mean like depression?#isabeau: uh. yeah exactly. we don't know for sure yet but it's very likely that siffrin is depressed#bonnie: [nods very seriously.] i'll wash all the dishes so he doesn't have to. but if he feels like helping then he can help.#<- this bit goes in the tags bc we're getting into my very specific nille headcanons lmao#dagger ending au#did i need to write this whole thing out? no. but i had fun 😌#explaining things to people is my favorite thing in the world. especially children#note there is only ONE direct lie in this - the 'while they were training'#killing yourself sure involves being so upset that you stop being careful with your body!!#unfortunately without Some 'context in which it makes sense that being a little not-careful could get you really hurt'#bonnie definitely woulda asked what happened#and then it's more difficult to avoid the truth without more specific lies#so. we lead with one lie about an inconsequential detail that the full truth doesn't actually contradict#maybe siffrin Was training when he decided to kill himself.. who knows......#very important to be truthful as possible here i think bc a 12 year old could definitely figure out at some point what actually happened#and if that happens you do nottt want to be the person who Straight Up Majorly Lied#they'll be upset enough without also totally losing trust in you#(however 10-12 is young enough that bonnie really does NOT need to know right now. especially not on top of everything else.#they may figure it out eventually but ideally we will try to prevent that happening for as long as possible.)#plus bonnie is gonna. be around siffrin. so all the emotional stuff is gonna be relevant!#better to explain it preemptively and establish that it's something we're allowed to talk about#i know this party is shit at communicating but i do have to believe they could pull this together for bonnie#at least if given an hour to decide what they're gonna say#mirabelle has been to therapy#isabeau has crisis response training#odile is 40 something years old so this can't be the first rly difficult situation she's had to navigate. and she's very practical#and siffrin takes bonnie seriously and has proven he understands when to establish yourself as a trusted adult who#won't bullshit you and when to use that power to get away with lying or avoiding the truth when it's really necessary#or maybe the occasional prank but that's fine i think if done carefully and in moderation#isat

We should talk about Bruno
Now that Bruno finally feels safe and loved again by his family in Casita, he decides to explore the village again after years of solitude. People are still scared or nervous around him in the beginning, but in time they losen up and see him for what he really is; an autistic introvert who happens to see bits of the future.
He becomes friends with a few of the local rats and one evening they lead him to the mill where they sometimes go to find grain.
The miller is a strong, fat cutie and Bruno feels all sorts of feelings the first time he gets caught collecting food with the rats. How did Bruno not know of this lovely man living up on the hill? For all these years he was right there.
The miller introduces himself as Fernando and asks Bruno and the rats to please stay out of his mill with a "next time, just ask" and a casual smile.
Bruno takes him up on the offer and the two of them ends up in deep conversations about their passions, their childhood trauma and growing up gay in a comphet society. The rats come with Bruno in the beginning but soon they tell him to go on his own. Hesitantly he goes on his own.
When Bruno finally finds the courage to ask Fernando out, it is awfully clumsy of course. But he just gasps "I thought you would never ask!"
Bruno blinks. He starts tapping the old pattern on the side of the mill knock, knock, knock, knock on wood but just when he gets to knock his head the second time, Fernando offers his hand. Bruno blinks again, stopping his pattern and slowly reaches out to hold his hand.
"I'm not... very good at this .." he mumbles.
Fernando smiles patiently and tells him "I don't have a lot of experience either. After many years, I sort of just came to terms with not liking girls and probably never finding a partner."
Warmth flushing through him, Bruno smiles and turns to embrace Fernando. He comes to him willingly. The short man looks up at Bruno, and he slowly brushes his lips on Fernando's forehead. Then pulls away and pulls up his hood, blushing again.
"We'll work on it," Fernando decides, "We have all the time we need..."
Then he walks into his house by the mill. Bruno just stands there with his hood up, fidgeting with Mirabel's embroideries on his green poncho. A rat shows up to stand patiently by his side.
Fernando comes out with a flourish, a picnic basket on his arm. He offers his hand again and this time Bruno takes it without hesitation.

first breakfast all together after the rebuild of Casita:
Camilo: We don't talk about Bruno no no no..
everyone stays silent, not understanding why he would bring up that song with Bruno at the table with them
Mirabel: We don't talk about Brunoooo
the two look at Pepa, waiting for her to start her verse.
everyone is still shocked, but when Bruno giggles, Pepa's cloud disappears and she starts singing, followed by all the others at the table.
Antonio and Luisa, looking confused: what is happening... why is everyone singing this?
Julieta, who heard every single part of the song from the kitchen: Imma meet my father real quick.

We Don't Talk About Alma❓❗
I hope no one's done this. Like I'm going insane with this idea. I'm serious.
Basically, after Mirabel's ceremony, after everyone had left and the family had gone to bed, she doesn't immediately go to Bruno for a vision. She kind sits in the candle room and looks at the candle. And what does she figure? It's her fault Mirabel didn't get a gift.
Now you might think she thought it was because she out pressure on the family, but that's not it. She doesn't even think about it. The candle flickered in her hands. So her logic is she must not be fit to be the candle her, she did something wrong. So when she's sure everyone's asleep, she leaves the candle in the nursery, telling a sleepy Mirabel to watch over it, and leaves. How she ends up in the walls I'm not sure. Casita probably showed her and she saw it as a chance to be with her family but not hurting the magic, so she stays in there.
Tumblr media
Mirabel is out in charge of the candle. It was left in the nursery. Mirabel didn't really hear Alma that night, as Alma was telling her a lot of stuff, but she did hear the last part. And then that was the last anyone say of her. Literally, Mirabel was the last to see her, and then was gone. The next, Mirabel's door reappeared; she was holding the candle. This was because Alma, technically speaking, stepped down from being the candle holder, so it went to the next one in line; which was Mirabel. Of course the family was ecstatic, and another party was being planned. They hadn't even actually realized Alma was gone. Mirabel didn't reveal what she heard last night yet and everyone in the family kind of just assumed Alma knew and was around. Even though...no one...saw her???
Anyway, it isn't until townspeople start coming to Casita that someone asks "Where's Alma?". That prompted the family to search for her, on the DL of course. Mostly the adults, the kids were having too much fun playing in Mirabel's new room. When they couldn't find her, they didn't quite announce it. Once the party was over and the kids were asleep, they went looking for her all throughout Casita more throughly. Bruno was the one who finally noticed that Alma's door had gone dark. And when they went in, it was like no one had been in it for years. It was dark, dusty and there was scorch marks in certain places. The candle room looked abandoned, and the actual candle had been placed in Mirabel's room.
Kids found out later on and Mirabel's told everyone what Alma said to her the night of her birthday. Dolores couldn't even find Dolores; she said she could hear something but she wasn't entirely sure if it was her or not. Morale was made candleholder, but didn't step up to the role as leader until she was about 10. Courtesy of her parents.
Though, Antonio, afyer learning about gifts and what not, had a, very rational actually, fear that Mirabel would just disappear like Alma did. Other family sort of have a fear of that as well. Mirabel assures the family, and more importantly Antonio, that she wouldn't of course.
Tumblr media
Also Alma's line the The Family Madrigal is changed.
"My Abuela Alma-"
"We Don't Talk About Alma!"
"...One day they she saw the candle flicker, and then she suddenly disappeared."
Tumblr media
The thing is, it was implemented not because they didn't like her, or because she was weird. It was because it made the triplets sad to talk about her. Pressured or not, that was still their mother, and they loved her, so when she just uped and disappeared, it was kind of jarring to them. So, Agustín and Félix told the kids not to talk about Abuela near them, and then the town kind of picked up on it. Kind of an unspoken rule. Antonio has no idea who she is, and Luisa, Camilo and Mirabel barely remember her. They were too young.
No one knows why she left. Dolores can’t properly hear her, and Bruno’s visions never make sense.

Ya know, if Mirabel had asked Julieta about Bruno then Mirabel would’ve gotten the unembellished truth about him, none of this “we DON’T talk about Bruno…… buuuuutttt we ARE gonna sing a highly falsified story about him!”
