THE THIEF AND THE PROPHET  CHAPTER 2: 【 THE DEVIL'S HANGED MAN 】

「 The celebrations have begun! It's a joyous time of laughter, reminiscing, and preparation in the days leading up to the wedding of Dolores and Mariano. Well...for everyone else, at least.

Bruno finds himself a little overwhelmed by all the festivities, feeling a lot of pressure to not make accidentally 'ruining weddings' a tradition of his.

It doesn't help that the strange talisman he won in a dice game is attracting a lot of unwanted attention when it's revealed that the jewel merchant is said to be a 'gold thief' who lures people in with stories and 'fools gold' in exchange for real gold. 

Meanwhile, the mysterious jewel merchant, Chel, returns home, where she mopes in a bath after finding another gray hair. Thankfully, her sister, Inés, is there to boost her spirits, as are the magical charms of her youngest nephew, Vito.  」 ✨| CHAPTER 3:  A flashback to almost 12 years ago right before Mirabel's ceremony and Bruno's disappearance. Chel returns to The Encanto with her family and has a conversation with a mysterious stranger.

19th Century AU - Bruno

I’ve hit that second act wall yet again with my Pepa is a Disney Princes AU, and talking about the fic in public usually helps me dredge up some inspiration so here is Bruno! I chose to set the fic in the mid-19th century, because that’s honestly when a lot of the princess movies are set. Bruno’s casual clothes are the Disney-fied versions of 1850s-ish Colombian clothes (the references used are under the cut). Admittedly, most of the Disney-ification has just been making the clothes brighter colors that might not match up with the dyes available at the time. Bruno is the son of two of the king’s ministers (Pedro got assassinated though) and is employed as the royal seer, so even when dressed casually he gets very vibrant clothes that would cost a fortune just to weave, much less dye and embroider. His formal wear is a lot less Colombia specific because after a lot of googling I found that, likely as a side effect of colonialism, there wasn’t a lot of variation in men’s formal wear.

I leaned pretty heavily into this guy's outfit for all of the casual clothes. I have found a few (shaky) sources on what was the considered high fashion in 19th century Colombia, but this is the only photo I found of that's labeled as a specifically Colombian person in clothes he might go to work in. He's supposed to be a llanero (so think herder or cowboy) but my source is Wikipedia and a website I had to run through google translate and now can’t find again, so grain of salt.

Then here is what I looked at for the suit. As a member of an important family Bruno would be expected to occasionally attend formal events and would therefore have to dress fancy. I'm sure in his heart he would want to wear something super dramatic and storybook-worthy, but I don't think he would be able to psych himself up for it. I'm also pretty sure that in real life he'd be wearing all black to fancy events, but this is a Disney Princess AU so whatever having all your men wearing black suits is bad cartoon character design.

I might post more if this helps shake things loose, then hopefully I can actually get myself into the third act where I can start actually tying off plot threads.
