Tumblr Tuesday: Watch It All Burn (Arcane Spoilers Ahead)

Everyone's favorite disaster siblings are back, and Piltover and Zaun are in their usual state of uproar. Here's a nice little fanart series to keep you all entertained until the next and final act.

In episode 2, “Watch It All Burn,” there are several stylized effects throughout -

The smoke of Jinx’s gun spelling out ‘poow’

The speakers of Sevika’s new arm having soundwaves and music notes coming out of them, when Get Jinxed plays.

The halo of stars circling around Smeech’s head after he’d been hit

At first, I thought these were just fun and cool aesthetic choices, but now I’m wondering if they're in fact also Jinx’s hallucinations.

Now on the one hand, they’re not indicated to us as being the same as Jinx’s previous hallucinations.

For example, we have the same flashing and scratching effects of Jinx’s psychosis from the previous season happening over Vi’s face/enforcer mask when Jinx sees her in the enforcer uniform for the first time.

But that could just be because Vi being in an enforcer uniform is very triggering for Jinx.

I just feel like we can’t ignore how the stylized effects in this episode are 100% in Jinx’s drawing style.

So, I think Jinx is still having hallucinations, but rather than disrupting reality for her or being triggered by her trauma, these new ones are sort of enhancing reality for her, rather than taking over and or contradicting it.

And if I’m right, I love that so goddamn much.

Oh Jinx was actually crying after leaving the arcade when the chembarons ambushed her I just thought it was because of the gas or getting the wind knocked out of her but she started crying back when she saw Vi take Claggor's goggles and just held it in until she wouldn't get caught 😭

Thinking about a Burn alternative that I didn't want to wait until Sunday to send in case I forgot! Okay, so, everything up through Eddie abandoning Steve still happens, but with some twists after that. He and Robin still get kidnapped and trapped under the mall, but they save themselves. Steve, in a rush of adrenaline wanting to save himself, his pup, and Robin, loses his shit on everyone who captured them and brutally kills the main ones. He gains the respect of the other members who were down there and it turns out they had a lot of issues with the Russians running things so they pledge allegiance to Steve instead, making him their matriarch. Wanting to establish security and safety above all else for her m and Dove, he dives into the role and gains a steadfast group of loyal followers and people. Robin operates as almost a double agent, staying as Eddie's accountant but running intel and such for Steve. Chrissy knows that she's doing so but doesn't tell Eddie out of loyalty to Steve. During all of this, Steve had covertly moved out of the apartment and disappeared, and Bob couldn't track him. Eddie knows he's vanished and is beside himself searching for him, leaving him distracted and room for Steve's new group to start sneaking in and taking things from him. Business deals, profit opportunities, you name it. He's become the leader of a powerful organization and remained anonymous. He gives birth to Dove and starts to raise her on his own. He's surrounded by tough people, and he has some alphas try to cozy up to him, but he doesn't entertain the idea of anyone other than Eddie. Eddie finally realizes that 1) he's been losing a lot of power and people to the anonymous leader and 2) Robin and Chrissy have been helping. He starts conducting his own investigation and decides to extend an invitation to the leader to meet and exchange pleasantries to hopefully stop a turf war from happening. Steve accepts, as he will be wearing a disguise, and they arrange to meet at his new home. The day arrives and Eddie is greeted by a lavish but small home and he's put in the sitting room. Steve comes in and Eddie immediately is struck by his scent, it seems so familiar. He shuts that thought down and focuses on the task at hand, starting a tense conversation with the anonymous leader. He keeps getting struck by the scent, and in one disastrously tense moment, they get into a tussle and Steve's disguise moves enough to show his neck and moles. Enough for Eddie to recognize him. Idk what happens after this, Steve leaves and Eddie is escorted out by armed guards. This begins a cat and mouse chase, angst, and some good make up fucking when they inevitably get back together but only after Eddie has grovelled in sorrow and accepted that Steve is his equal in all things. The end😌

it drives me insane to know i still haven’t finished writing “Ashes” so you guys don’t get the badass omega Steve that you’re all clearly craving😔 he deserves to be crazy and powerful like this!!!

Arcane S2 E2 Question:

During my 2nd watch, I was wondering how Smeech, Heenot, and that other goon were still alive because all their scenes happened after they visited that Margot lady's face house with all the gas leaks, but wasn't there a monster in there? They don't really address it again except for Smeech looking kind of shaken for a second in the meeting afterwards. Was it just his imagination of the Grey or like... is that something to keep our eyes on? Or was it like Vi/Cait and the team? Were they already active at this time and they beat up the ladies in black leather? Did the ladies beat each other up in a gas-induced panic? Is this common "the Grey" LoL lore?

Episode two, "Watch It All Burn", was more even and answered the questions that I kept asking over and over during the first episode (Mainly, "Where is Sevika in all this?").

I loved the music video status update we got with the Chem-Barons showing which of them had died off and which were still here. These little vignettes were an area where the show excelled in the first season and I'm glad to see it continue.

The show continues to portray Jinx as unwell, and I think it's very important that they've stuck to that. I said this back in the first season, but usually when a fiction has a "crazy" villain that just means "evil, but weird about it". They never take the time to actually show how they're suffering from their actual mental problems. Here, though, you can see exactly how Jinx is unraveling under her own guilt and disassociation and fears and rage and resentment and everything else. Jinx very much is a villain, but this engenders sympathy, or at least understanding.

Like I said, I was wondering what role Sevika would have in this season, because out of everybody left from Silco's organization I'd say she is the only honest patriot of Zaun still working. I still think she's evil for her original betrayal of Vander and her subsequent actions, but her actions were always because she honestly thought it was the best thing for the Undercity. Unlike the Chem-Barons it was never money that motivated her, or a driving personal urge like Jinx. If she can bring the Chem-Barons to heel, it's still possible that Zaun and Piltover may be able to deal with one another before all-out war erupts. Because she actually cares what happens to the people who live in the Undercity.

Of course, the best outcome would be for Ekko to make his own play for control as well. I meant it when I said that Sevika is an honest patriot, but she's still wrong a lot and it's the people she cares about who usually pay the price. Ekko's the one who's been fighting his own war against Silco all along, and the one who has experience caring for and supporting the people that got crushed under the boot heel of Sevika's patriotism. Instead of choosing to support either Piltover or "Zaun" (Sevika/The Chem-Barons), he could be the REAL leader of Zaun. Lead them to independence AND self-sufficiency, while not making an eternal enemy of their neighbors. Because whether or not you like Piltover, the city can't move, and they're going to have to live with each other afterwards.

Just finished watching episode 2 of Act 1, Season 2 of ‘Arcane: League Of Legends’. Jinx in her despair makes her introduction into the season narrating the story for the Undercity. With the mourning of her father figure Silco she’s practically stopped caring about absolutely anything and everything because no matter what she does she just makes things far worse yet the child that is still in her comes out when seeing her sister again. It’s always interesting to me Jinx’s erratic behaviour when she’s faced with something or someone from her past. That’s some very deep trauma she has to work through and I’m not too sure how she’s going to do it without no one really on her side helping her overcome her illness.

Vicktor’s come back to life and he has decided to split from his partnership with Jayce. I really don’t blame him. After seeing all the pain and death that’s been caused because of messing around with the magic, he is now endeavouring to heal the addicted and sick and… what?… gain disciples to his cause? I don’t know what’s going on there. But his new Hextech+Shimmer evolved form kind of reminds me of the figure of Moses. He is endowed with supernatural ability now. It makes me wonder if he has the power to part the Red Sea or call down the ten deadly plagues on Piltover in order to get his once beloved brother in arms to listen to his reason.

I jest but seriously tell me you don’t see the similarities. I don’t really know if it’s intentional but it’s what I see.

Once again - really really good writing. Well paced, well thought out and just very compelling characterization.
