New Scotland Yard: Hard Contract (1.5, LWT, 1972)
"I was just wondering what it was like to kill somebody."
"Well, that's a nice thought to start the day, innit?"
"In all my stint in the army, I never did. Not like -"
"Not like me."
"Yeah, well, you bagged a few terrorists in your time, didn't you? I was just wondering..."
"What it was like?"
"Yeah."
"Well, it... it was like... like nothing. You just sit on a roof and wait. For movement. The sun on a rifle. Just a flash, a glint. The first bullet gets you - or gets them, it's as simple as that."
"No involvement?"
"None."

Woodvine takes on a case belonging to a hospitalised#colleagueâ also inheriting the man's number two (a typically gruff but likeable Windsor Davies). it's a fairly routine case involving#a contract killer (Pat O'Connellâ the year before he found household recognition in The Brothersâ and sporting the same slightly shaky#northern accent he had in his Saint appearance a few years prior). there's the hints of something larger at play; the shadowy figure who's#actually paying for the killings goes unidentified and has possible links to people in high officeâ the seeds of conspiracy that i very#much hope will be returned to (but i honestly don't know yet if this is the type of show to keep up with such threads or just dangle and#abandon). a fairly solid ep but it does fail to interrogate the potential of how an ex soldier back from service in Northern Ireland falls#into mercenary work and killing for profit.. too touchy an idea in 72 perhaps#Woodvine gets a few lighter moments too; perhaps it's being away from Carlisle?? they are an odd couple

It had to happen ⊠eventually. The Grue-Crew cover the Santos Ellin, Jr. favorite from 1974, Shriek of the Mutilated. Oh, boy⊠is this a romp. Bad script, bad acting, hilariously bad dialog, the goofiest âyetiâ costume ever â yeah, we had an absolute blast with this one. You knew that was coming, eh?

2020 Reading Challenge - E-Book Edition!
According to Amazon, I have exactly 294 e-books currently sitting in my Kindle library.Â
Granted, some of these books have been read and are being saved for a second (or third, or fourth) re-read, but when it comes down to it, that number is around 40 books, give or take.Â
Which means I still have over 250 books that need to be read.Â
And itâs not like I havenât tried! There are plenty of titles that, when opened up, will go to the last place I left off - that being chapter 5, or maybe chapter 10. But sometimes life gets in the way. Or a sudden interest in another author. Or a new season of RuPaulâs Drag Race. But whatever the reason may be, itâs over 250 books that havenât been read. Challenge accepted!Â
For 2020, I commit to not buying any new books to add to my Kindle library (checking out books from the library is ok, because youâve gotta support your local library!), and instead focus on the books I already have. So no addition of 99 cent books, or Kindle Unlimited books, or books that are suddenly 75% off. Only the books that I currently have.Â
As the reading commences, and after the book is finished, Iâll update my list to indicate what has been completed, along with the date purchased, and a short review (or a reason I just couldnât finish it at all).Â
Below is the list for future reference - and to clarify my what my favorite genre is. Spoiler: itâs romance novels.Â

via Politics â FiveThirtyEight
Welcome to a weekly collaboration between FiveThirtyEight and ABC News. With 5,000 people seemingly thinking about challenging President Trump in 2020 â Democrats and even some Republicans â weâre keeping tabs on the field as it develops. Each week, weâll run through what the potential candidates are up to â whoâs getting closer to officially jumping in the ring and whoâs getting further away.
It was a historic week. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand entered the presidential race. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard did too, sort of; she has not yet formally announced but said she plans to this week. This is the first time that at least three women will vie for the nationâs most powerful office in one of the two major parties. Itâs already an increase from the 2016 field, which featured Hillary Clinton and Carly Fiorina. And several other women could still join the field.
Jan. 11-17, 2019
Joe Biden (D)
Asked about the possibility that Biden could run for president, President Trump told Fox News on Saturday that Barack Obama took Biden âoff the trash heapâ when he selected him to be his running mate. Trump went on to describe Biden as âweak.â
On Monday, Biden is scheduled to attend the National Action Networkâs Martin Luther King Jr. Day breakfast in Washington, D.C.
Cory Booker (D)
Booker questioned William Barr, Trumpâs attorney general nominee, on race and the criminal justice system during Barrâs confirmation hearing Tuesday, objecting to Barrâs earlier claim that âthereâs no statistical evidence of racism in the criminal justice system.â The pair ultimately pledged to meet and discuss the issue further.
The New Jersey senator sent best wishes via Twitter to Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York after she announced her presidential exploratory committee. The two played a lighthearted game of âHow Well Do You Know Your Co-Worker?â in a Marie Claire video in which Gillibrand described Booker as âSenate chiseled.â
Michael Bloomberg (D)
The former New York City mayor said he hasnât made a final decision about a presidential run during the keynote address at an Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada event Tuesday. Bloomberg joked that âthereâs actually no rushâ because, in his case, âmy donor isnât walking away.â
Bloomberg visited Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Thursday to announce that the city was a winner in Bloomberg Philanthropiesâ Public Art Challenge and meet with a local Moms Demand Action gun control group. On Monday, he is scheduled to attend the National Action Networkâs Martin Luther King Jr. Day breakfast in Washington, D.C., according to a spokesperson.
Sherrod Brown (D)
The Ohio senator announced Tuesday that he will embark on a âdignity of workâ listening tour beginning at the end of the month, with stops in Ohio, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina. âWhat I want to accomplish is I want to continue to learn about the dignity of work,â Brown told MSNBC. âI want [the tour] to encourage my colleagues running for president that this should be the narrative. ⊠Itâs the best way to govern, fighting for the dignity of work, and itâs the best way to win elections.â
BuzzFeed News reported Thursday that Brown hired an Iowa-based former field director for Bernie Sandersâs 2016 campaign, an additional sign that he may launch a campaign.
Steve Bullock (D)
The Montana governor wouldnât answer questions about his presidential plans during a Wednesday news conference in Helena. Bullock said that he is âat a great advantage to be able to do the job that I get to do, and thatâs what Iâm focusing on.â
Pete Buttigieg (D)
The South Bend Tribune previewed Buttigiegâs forthcoming book Thursday, which describes his first mayoral run in 2011, his coming out story, his missteps while leading South Bend, Indiana, and his unsuccessful 2017 bid to be the chairman of the Democratic National Committee. He told the newspaper that a decision on a presidential campaign could come within the next few weeks. âFor anybody who isnât already very famous, you really donât have long, past the end of this month, to make some kind of move,â he said.
Julian Castro (D)
Castro officially announced his presidential candidacy Saturday in his hometown of San Antonio, where he served as mayor for three-terms. âIâm running for president because itâs time for new leadership, because itâs time for new energy and itâs time for a new commitment to make sure that the opportunities Iâve had are available for every American,â he said.
Following the announcement, Castro traveled to Puerto Rico where he met with San Juan Mayor Yulin Cruz, an outspoken critic of Trump, toured communities affected by Hurricane Maria and spoke at a political summit.
The former Housing and Urban Development secretary spent much of the past week in New Hampshire, with various events in Concord, Laconia, Manchester and Somersworth. At Saint Anselm College in Manchester, Castro criticized the government shutdown and argued for âcompassionâ in developing immigration reform. He additionally pledged universal pre-K nationwide and a recommitment to the Paris Climate Agreement.
Bob Corker (R)
Corker, a former Tennessee senator, said in an interview with Nashville Public Radio that the ongoing partial government shutdown was Trumpâs responsibility. âThis is one where at the last minute the president changed his mind and so now we are sitting here shut down because â just because,â he said. âThis whole thing, as Iâve mentioned before, is pretty juvenile, and at some point, government will open back up.â
Asked during the interview about a potential presidential run, Corker didnât rule it out. âItâs something to consider, and certainly Iâve got the background and knowledge levels, and hopefully intelligence and judgment and all of those kind of things to be good at it, if I was elected,â he said. âBut, again, itâs not necessarily even on the front burner; itâs a possibility. There are many other things that Iâm going to be thinking about over the next period of time.â
John Delaney (D)
In an interview last Sunday on ABC Newsâs âThis Week,â Delaney said he would focus the first 100 days of a potential presidency solely on âbipartisan proposals.â The former Maryland congressman said such initiatives could include action on infrastructure and criminal justice reform. He also said that he felt his campaign (now more than 500 days old) was âgoing great.â
Delaney will visit New Hampshire on Friday and Saturday for meet-and-greet events in Amherst, Hanover and Manchester, according to his campaign.
Tulsi Gabbard (D)
The Hawaii congresswoman said that she has âdecided to runâ for president and teased a forthcoming formal announcement in an interview with CNN last Friday. Gabbard, who has served in the House since 2013 and was one of the few elected officials in Washington to support Sen. Bernie Sandersâs candidacy in 2016, said that the âone main issueâ she wished to address as president was âwar and peace.â
Following the announcement, Gabbard quickly faced criticism for working for an anti-gay organization led by her father in the early 2000s that touted conversion therapy and fought same-sex marriage legislation. On Thursday, she apologized in a video and series of tweets, explaining that she was raised in a socially conservative household and that her personal opinions have since changed.
Eric Garcetti (D)
Garcettiâs hands were full this week with the ongoing Los Angeles Unified School District teacher strike. The mayor, who facilitated negotiations at City Hall Thursday according to his office, earlier described the strike as âelectrifyingâ and expressed pride in the educators for standing up for a ârighteous cause,â but cautioned that there must be consideration for the districtâs âfiscal health.â
Kirsten Gillibrand (D)
Gillibrand announced on Tuesday that she is forming a presidential exploratory committee, making her the second female senator, after Elizabeth Warren, to take the step toward a White House bid. In an interview on âThe Late Show,â where she made the announcement, the New York senator cited health care, education and economic inequality as key points of focus for her campaign. Asked what she would do on her first day in office, Gillibrand said she would ârestore whatâs been lost â the integrity and the compassion of this country,â and stressed the need for bipartisanship.
On Wednesday, Gillibrand addressed reporters outside a diner near her hometown in Troy, New York, and described her evolution from a centrist Democrat who once received an âAâ rating from the National Rifle Association to a more liberal lawmaker, saying that âitâs important to know when youâre wrong and to do whatâs right.â
Gillibrand will travel to Iowa this weekend for events in Sioux City on Friday and Cedar Rapids on Sunday, according to a Gillibrand campaign official. In-between, on Saturday, sheâll stop in Des Moines to speak at the Iowa Womenâs March.
Kamala Harris (D)
On Thursday morning, Harris became the first member of the Senate Judiciary Committee to come out against the confirmation of attorney general-nominee William Barr. Harris tweeted that Barrâs hearing indicated to her that he âwonât defend independent investigations from attacks and ensure equal protection under the law for all Americans.â
During the hearing, Harris was critical of Barrâs role in promoting incarceration during the âwar on drugsâ amid his prior stints at the Justice Department.
âI would suggest to you that in the intervening almost 30 years since you were last Attorney General that there is consensus in the United States that when we look at the drug epidemic, whatever the narcotic may be, that there is now an understanding that the War on Drugs was an abject failure,â Harris said.
Jay Inslee (D)
Next Tuesday, Inslee will visit New Hampshire for two events focused on climate change, according to a media advisory from his office â a roundtable with students at Saint Anselm College and a speech at Dartmouth College. The trip comes as some local Democratic officials have criticized Inslee for not investing in New Hampshireâs 2018 gubernatorial race during his tenure as chair of the Democratic Governors Association.
John Kasich (R)
Upon leaving the Ohio governorâs office, Kasich signed on to become a CNN political commentator. In a tweet, he said that in the position he would âbe like an umpire calling balls and strikes like Iâve always done throughout my entire career.â This week, in one of his first appearances on the network, Kasich questioned Trumpâs command of the partial government shutdown and whether Democrats were seriously engaged in negotiations. âI think itâs incumbent on the leader to try to bring people together and get something done, and I just donât see it,â he said, adding, âI wonder a little bit if the Democrats are enjoying this, because the numbers are all going against the president.â
On Friday, Kasich will be a guest on the 17th season premiere of HBOâs âReal Time with Bill Maher.â
Amy Klobuchar (D)
The Minnesota senator told MSNBC that she received the blessing of her family to move forward with a presidential campaign, relaying that they are âon board,â should she decide to run.
The internet worked itself into a tizzy on Tuesday after a Twitter user posted what appeared to be a Klobuchar 2020 campaign logo that he said he found at a Washington, D.C. coffee shop. The senator later responded, speculating that the artwork was the work of âa very enthusiastic supporterâ and joking that the designâs mountains werenât geographically accurate.
During this weekâs confirmation hearings for attorney general-nominee William Barr, Klobuchar alluded to Watergate as she asked Barr whether âthe attorney general [is] the peopleâs lawyer or the Presidentâs lawyer.â
Mitch Landrieu (D)
The Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School announced on Wednesday that Landrieu would be among its visiting fellows for this yearâs spring term. Landrieu will join former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter to âcontinue their discussion on âPolitics, Potholes, and Public Service.'â
Jeff Merkley (D)
Merkley was one of the many Democratic senators on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee who had strong words for the Environmental Protection Agencyâs acting administrator Andrew Wheeler during his confirmation hearing. Merkley shared his concern that âthe rate [of carbon emissions] is actually accelerating despite the international conversationsâ and said he hopes Wheeler will âbecome more familiar with these issues.â
Seth Moulton (D)
Citing a source close to the Massachusetts congressman, WBZ-TV reported Wednesday that Moulton is exploring the idea of a presidential bid.
Moulton will visit New Hampshire on Feb. 2 for a private event with the Bedford Democratic Committee, the group confirmed to ABC News on Wednesday.
Beto OâRourke (D)
OâRourke gave an interview to the Washington Post on Tuesday that received attention more for what the former Texas congressman didnât say than for what he did. In it, OâRourke demurred when asked for solutions on the border and Syria, calling for âdebateâ and âdiscussion,â but providing few concrete details about where he personally stands on the issues.
In a Medium post published on Wednesday detailing a visit to southwest Kansas, OâRourke admitted to being âin and out of a funk,â but wrote that if he continues to travel to meet people itâll help clear his head. âMaybe if I get moving, on the road, meet people, learn about whatâs going on where they live, have some adventure, go where I donât know and Iâm not known, itâll clear my head, reset, Iâll think new thoughts, break out of the loops Iâve been stuck in,â he wrote.
OâRorke will be interviewed by Oprah Winfrey as part of âOprahâs SuperSoul Conversations from Times Squareâ on Feb. 5.
Howard Schultz
Schultz, the former CEO of Starbucks, announced a book tour beginning later this month to promote, âFrom the Ground Up.â Notably, stops on the tour thus far do not include cities in early-voting states.
Bernie Sanders (D)
On Wednesday, Sanders met with women who said they experienced sexual harassment or gender discrimination while working on his 2016 presidential campaign. A read-out of the meeting provided afterward to ABC News indicated that the senator âwas there to listenâ and that there âis a desire to create a better processâ and âput a good program in placeâ to combat the issues.
Sanders pointedly questioned acting EPA Andrew Wheeler at Wheelerâs confirmation hearing Wednesday, pressing him about the EPAâs efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. âWe are the strongest economy in the world, and if the leadership in the Environmental Protection Agency in the United States says to China and to Russia and to India, and to countries all over the world, that we have got to move aggressively to protect this planet for our children and our grandchildren, we can have some impact on the entire international community, are you prepared to do that?â
Eric Swalwell (D)
The California congressman is headed to South Carolina on Saturday to speak at the Greenville Womenâs March and the Spartanburg County Democratic Partyâs Blue Carolina Black Tie Gala, according to an adviser.
In the wake of a New York Times report that the FBI investigated whether Trump was working on behalf of Russian interests, Swalwell, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, told CNN that the question has âshifted from whether the president is working with the Russians to what evidence exists that the president is not working with the Russians?â He further criticized Trump for failing to meet personally with Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
Elizabeth Warren (D)
Warren visited Manchester, New Hampshire, last weekend â her first visit to the state since announcing her presidential exploratory committee. In public remarks, the Massachusetts senator called for âsystemic changeâ as a course correction following the âbad decisionsâ currently being made in Washington. Warren returns to New Hampshire Friday for an event in Claremont.
On Sunday, Trump criticized Warrenâs Instagram livestream from early January quipping on Twitter that she should have done the video âfrom Bighorn or Wounded Knee instead of her kitchen, with her husband dressed in full Indian garb, it would have been a smash!â Native Americans condemned the tweet as racist.

5 Common Myths About Collision Repair Debunked
When it comes to collision repair, misinformation can lead car owners to make costly mistakes or delay necessary repairs. Letâs clear the air by debunking five common myths about collision repair and helping you make informed decisions for your vehicle:
1. Myth: Any Auto Body Shop Can Handle Collision Repairs
Truth: Not all auto body shops are equipped to handle collision repairs. Certified collision repair centers have specialized training, tools, and experience to restore your carâs structural integrity and safety features. Choosing a certified shop ensures your vehicle meets industry standards and performs as it should after an accident.
2. Myth: Your Insurance Company Decides Where to Take Your Car
Truth: While insurance companies may recommend preferred repair shops, the choice is ultimately yours. Itâs your right to choose a repair center you trust. Look for shops with positive reviews, certifications, and a track record of quality work.
3. Myth: Paintless Dent Repair is Only for Small Dents
Truth: While paintless dent repair (PDR) is commonly used for minor dings, it can also fix larger dents, depending on the damage and location. PDR is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution that preserves your carâs original paint.
4. Myth: Aftermarket Parts Are Inferior to OEM Parts
Truth: Aftermarket parts are often as reliable as OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts, but quality varies. A reputable collision repair shop will recommend high-quality partsâwhether OEM or aftermarketâthat meet your vehicleâs needs and your budget.
5. Myth: You Only Need Collision Repair for Major Accidents
Truth: Even minor accidents can cause hidden damage, such as misaligned frames or compromised safety systems. Ignoring small issues now can lead to bigger problems down the road. Always have your vehicle inspected after an accident, regardless of the severity.

Haven DVD Commentaries - 3.02, Stay
Commentary with Matt McGuinness (Executive Producer, and Writer for this episode) and Gabrielle Stanton (Executive Producer)
MMG [During the previously on]: Gosh, I forgot how violent our show is sometimes; people are very angry. But they usually have good reason to be. I remember the day we came up with this in the room, that the Colorado Kidâs grave would be empty.
MMG [during the first scene in the truck stop]: We thought about shooting this scene at night, we decided to go for a gloomy morning kind of look. Now that guy, I would have preferred if he was much more naked, because you could barely tell that he was naked.
MMG [Duke and Audrey talking on her balcony]: We had lots of conversation on the day about what Dukeâs weapon of choice would be in this moment. I like what he picked [the screwdriver]. Iâd originally scripted a big wrench like he was going to bash somebody. I will say that also, Eric must have been in some knife fights because that is in fact the way you hold a knife in a fight. This was the first day of shooting of season three. This was the second episode but we shot out of order, and this was the first or I think this was actually the second day of shooting. Thereâs Duke and Nathan. Those boys have some issues.
GS [As Audrey is offering Nathanâs coat to the zombie man dog thing]: This is where Audrey does a little bit of her Trouble-whispering that sheâs so good at; connecting empathically with Troubled people. MMG: Casting these dog-men was, as you can imagine, quite a challenge. Now this guy [the store owner] like all good jerks, gets his comeuppence and gets bit on the neck. Thatâs fairly savage. [GS asks why the casting was so challenging] Because, we needed guys who could act, we needed guys who you believed might be a dog. We needed guys who looked good naked, and it was hard. We did end up getting some great, great guys. Particularly the guy who played the lead dog; he was great.
MMG: And this is our introduction to Claire Callahan which was a lot of fun. GS: Who is actually naturally I believe blonde. Didnât we darken her hair for the role? MMG: We turned her into an auburn red head sort of deal. GS: I like the way they play together. I can see them as friends. MMG: I remember when Claire showed up, I was there and poor Bree Williamson, we were way behind and she showed up and she found herself in a scene (not this one - a later scene) and before you knew it she was acting and saying her lines, and no one ⊠I had barely spoken to her, I not talked to her one second about her character, who her character was or what her character was doing ⊠And I just was like âhold onâ and I ran out and had a three minute conversation with her about who she was and I think she really appreciated it.
MMG: Thatâs Adrian Griffiths who played Tor Magnusson, a name that we loved here in the writersâ room. We like ⊠a lot of our guest actors have what we like to think of as very real names. GS: The more real they are, the more likely they are conceived by Matt McGuinness [which makes Matt laugh a lot] MMG: We liked that name, itâs actually the name of a friend of my fathers.
MMG: This barn was a great location, we found a barn that was a labrynthian warren of rooms. [As Audrey and Nathan come back out of the barn] That makes the barn look small, but thatâs just an outbuidling, see that barn connects to the other barn, and they all go underground, it was a big barn. Look how beautiful it looks; such a rich looking show, itâs great. GS: I love that colour. MMG: Isnât it great? It looks like theyâre in an aquarium in that shot right there. [as theyâre asking Tor to lock the barn]. GS: Everyone wears plaid in Haven. Thereâs a lot of plaid. Except Audrey.
MMG [At Duke and the raw-fish-eating man dog thing]: This was a fun scene. This guy was large. He has some big muscles. We always had fun imagining which dog turned into which person and I had a feeling this was a rottweiler or a Saint Bernard. [As Duke asks Dwight to restrain the man dog] This was a fun little moment.
MMG [As Audrey and Nathan go back into the barn after Liam]: This scene we shot at the very end of the day. It was dark outside and we lit this. GS: The lighting looks great. MMG: This was fun ... where all the dog men find clothes. GS: Which kind of makes sense because theyâd be cold, but also itâs kind of hard to have too many naked people running around town. MMG: And they are getting smarter. And thereâs the big dog [Jessie]. This guy was great. Although I never liked the way he put that coat on; he looked like heâd put a coat on a million times the way he did that. But other than that he was terrific.
GS: How long did this sequence take to shoot, it must have been half a day? MMG: Oh we were in this barn for a long time. Two days in total I think.
MMG [When we first see Cookie the man dog]: What was his name originally, it was Juice Box right? Then he was Cookie. Heâs the nice dog.
MMG: That was one of my favourite shots right there; them [the man dogs] running into the woods and scattering.
MMG: I remember when we came up with this idea in the room ⊠it was just one of those big quantum leap moments where, weâve all scene werewolves where people turn into animals. On lots of shows people turn into animals; weâd never seen animals turn into people. So we said what if some guyâs Trouble turned his animals into people? GS: Wasnât the original, original, original version a pet store owner? And all the animals in the pet store changed? MMG: If we do one more season we will do cursed pet store. I love cursed pet store.
MMG [about Vince and Dave]: These guys are investigating. This was the beginning of our season-long arc ⊠where the bolt-gun became key.
MMG [As Claire is listing her qualifications]: I miss Claire right now. She meets and unfortunate demise. GS: Yeah, we would have liked to have kept her, but we wrote the character to meet the end that she did. MMG: Yeah, she was brought in as cannon fodder and fulfilled that need. GS: But she was great, we liked her a lot. MMG: Nathanâs in a wierd position here because he wants to be nice to Audrey and he wants to protect Audrey, but heâs also worried about her so heâs allowing the psychiatrist to come along for the ride.
MMG [the scene with the man dog in Dwightâs truck]: I thought this was really funny. How did he end up in the car? Look at the peck muscles on that guy. He was huge. Donât mess with Dwight - he brings that wrestler thing. Claire notices that Audrey and Nathan have something.
MMG [At Dukeâs âWho are you again? Donât tell me - another Audrey Parkerâ line]: That was a great ad lib by Eric Balfour right there, that âanother Audrey Parkerâ he did that on the day. We all thought that was very funny. In the script he looked at her and said âWho are you a real estate agent?â which I thought was kind of a good line. And then he said âanother Audrey Parker?â and I thought, thatâs a much better line!
MMG [In the animal centre]: This was a great set, very creepy. GS: Itâs scary. MMG: This was Claireâs first scene. MMG [when we see the man in the cage]: And this I remember was Randy, our stunt guy. GS: Actually in there? MMG: Actually in there. GS: Wow. MMG: Crammed himself into that little cage. And he was really uncomfortable.
MMG [When they find the body of the dog catcher]: Our little tip of the hat to 2001; dogs using tools and getting smarter.
MMG [Dwight and Duke heading into the Herald]: This was the first scene we shot. For the whole season. Very first scene, I remember, everyoneâs bright eyed and busy tailed, lots of executives milling about. CS [As they go inside]: I like this set, the Haven Herald. MMG: Itâs hard to shoot in; itâs really small.
MMG [As Audrey, Nathan and Claire look at the animal centre records]: These are these difficult math scenes that we always hate writing, but then theyâre kind of important. We call them math scenes because everyoneâs talking about the facts that they know and weâre sort of prosecuting the case. As a show we like to walk that fine line of being a procedural, but keeping the character and the emtion and seeing whatâs going on with people and youâve got to do both.
MMG [As Tor is talking about what happened when he dropped Jessie off at the animal centre] : This story he tells was a scene we wanted to shoot. Thatâs when all the dogs turned to people and it would have been a really, really cool scene. But it would have been shooting out of order and flashbacky and we kind of donât do that kind of stuff, so we didnât do it. But if I ever do this as a movie, Iâm going to do the scene where the guy walks out of the dog pound and all the dogs stop barking.
MMG [Duke, Dwight, Vince and Dave reading papers in the Herald]: This I think is going to be really funny in a second. GS: This is my favourite part of this scene. Everyone has to look out the window. MMG: Because a naked guy goes running by. And this guy; what a sport. It was cold. He wore sneakers, we decided to let him wear sneakers because he had to run down the street. And heâs got the cone on! GS: Heâs got the cone on! That was my favourite thing, Iâm so glad we got to keep that. MMG: And that guy was very naked. We did the show without any naked female dogs; we had a few but not enough. GS: Itâs one thing to shoot from the waist up, but from the collarbone up makes it harder.
GS: So hereâs one thing about the Troubles. If your parents had said to you âyou may not ever own an animalâ wouldnât you ask why, and press for the details? MMG: Well maybe but, the house I grew up in, No. You were beaten. [about Tor] This guy was great. Heâs really big too, heâs like six five. Youâll see later when we have a stand off in the woods, we needed him to be threatened by the dog, and it was like, âWe need to put him in a holeâ. MMG: Marcoon Hills, named after one of my college room-mates; Stu Marcoon.
MMG [At the stand off with Jessie in the woods]: This scene I was terrified of, because itâs a full grown man having an emtional scene with his dog turned to a man. And I thought; this has the potential to really go sideways. And both of these actors dug me out of a whole and did a great, great job. Jessie was the name of my golden retriever when I was little. That guy looks like a crazy dog, doesnât he? Both of these guys were great. Oh thereâs a female dog, with a very modest sweater she seems to have found. Oh wow, look at the VFX on that hand touch! I remember having that conversation in post and I had forgotten. And theyâre all dogs! In sweaters! All of those dogs in the woods; it was really tricky.
MMG [As Cookie finds Liam]: There is our executive producer Shawn Pillarâs dog, Slone. Who is only about a year and a half old there. GS: This whole show teaches you that dogs are good people too. MMG: Gabbieâs here to make fun of my show apparently. GS: No! Iâm saying I think itâs a very nice message. I think the message should be, people should go out and adopt a dog.
GS [As Claire tells Audrey how Hadley and the others are doing]: Audreyâs found a kindred spirit. MMG: She was a good friend.
GS [As we see Nathan with Cookie]: Slone is like three times that size now. MMG: I remember telling Lucas Bryant, âOK go pet the dog and look sexy, and appealing. And he pulls it off. Weâre going to see him look over in a way that melts the ladiesâ hearts I believe. Itâs nice.
GS [At Vince and Dave in the Herald]: I always like it when they fight. MMG: These guys are great when they fight. And they are the only ones with what appears to be the dewy decimal card system still in their office. And apparently ⊠GS: A mummy! MMG: ⊠souveniers from Tutankamun. I love that. GS: Who would steal from Vince and Dave? Youâd have to be pretty scary.
GS [As Duke is telling Audrey about the Hunter]: We decided on two months, and then I think by episode ten we were like, oh my gosh, we are slaves to time. MMG: Thereâs the bronco. There are only two people in the world who can drive that vehicle. One of them is that guy right there, and the other is one of our transpo guys. No one else is able to drive that car. GS: Aw, this is sad.
