New day, same book and same struggle to focus. I need this thing to be done, it's so stressing and tiring to try to keep my focus on this. It's written so fucking badly I can't take it anymore. And after sending a few passages to a friend I can confirm I am not the problem, the book is. It's so tiring on my brain that I am also less motivated to read in my free time, which is fine, but it shows how badly it's influencing me. My free time, when I am alone, these days mainly consists of listening to music, doing sudoku puzzles and continuing my Lost rewatch. I am now at the end of season 3 and I am not joking when I say I don't remember shit. I mean I do have a few memories of things that will happen, but there has been so many plot points amd twists I had completly forgotten.

productivity list:

read first thing in the morning

finished reading and underlining the first half of the last section of the book (now I only have to work on the second half and the epilogue which should be less than 50 pages)

started writing down notes for what I have read yesterday and today

started outlining a few thoughts on what my 2025 reading goals are going to be (I feel like this year I really learned a lot on what I want my reading to be, I will be writing a post on that around the end of the year)

Aww, Ash admitted to me when we were discussing Star Wars opinions that she's not only thought about these things before, she's actually really feeling like using her advanced creative writing degree to write ...................... fanfiction, and has actually done so in the past.

me, shoving my 67 SW fanfics on AO3 under the bed: Oh hey, awesome! That sounds really interesting.

hello, do you have any resources/books about the role of michigan/fort detroit in the war of 1812? thanks so much!!

Thank you for sending me this ask, and sorry I have been sitting on it for several days as I have searched for better resources!

Even though my interest in the War of 1812 has decidedly taken a turn for the Old Northwest frontier, which includes Michigan, I feel like all of the books I have on the subject are heavily focused on the Kentucky troops who made up most of the Americans at the Battles of Frenchtown and the Battle of the Thames. I'm currently reading The War of 1812 in the West: From Fort Detroit to New Orleans by David Kirkpatrick, and I love it, but it is deeply Kentucky fried and maybe not enough Michigan-focused content for what you are seeking?

It is genuinely weird how few books are focused on Michigan in the War of 1812, especially in light of all the "[State] in the War of 1812" books out there. (I can't believe Illinois has a War of 1812 book.) One that looks very promising, although I haven't read it, is Invaded on All Sides: The War of 1812 and Michigan's greatest battlefield engagements at Frenchtown and the River Raisin by Ralph Naveaux. Naveaux is a Michigan-based historian, and the blurbs praising his book are names I know and respect.

For a general history of the War of 1812 my recommendation is The Civil War of 1812: American Citizens, British Subjects, Irish Rebels, & Indian Allies by Alan Taylor, especially because Taylor is focused on border regions with shifting and complicated alliances (which definitely includes the Michigan territory at this time).

I really lament the fact that there's very few places to really discuss topics seriously with peers on the internet.

Most, if not all public discussion sites are just filled with trolls so irony poisoned that talking in good faith would give them an aneurysm, edgelord kids who always default to the most hyperbolic talking points because it grabs the most attention, or hardliners so entrenched in their position that talking to them is a waste of time.

it's short for cryptofascist, it's a term used for someone who covertly supports fascist sentiments or ideas adjacent to them without explicitly signaling it. someone who's cryptofash might closely associate with people who are more openly alt-right, express sympathy for fascist talking points, and voice certain statements/ideas common in fascist circles that, while not always strictly fascist ideas in isolation, can imply alt-right thinking when in tandem with other common fascist sentiments. in essence it's that guy you've always been suspicious of but you can't say for certain if they're just under-educated, reactionary, or a genuine nazi until you discover screenshots of them asking the jewish question in a discord server

If you haven’t started already, start archiving/downloading everything. Save it to an external hard drive if you’re able. Collecting physical media is also a good idea, if you’re able.

Download your own/your favorite fanfics. Save as much as you can from online sources/digital libraries. Recipes, tutorials, history, LGBTQ media, etc. It has been claimed, though I can’t find the exact source if true, that some materials about the Revolutionary War were deleted from the Library of Congress.

It’s always better to be safe than sorry and save and preserve what you can. Remember that cloud storage also is not always reliable!

Library of Congress - millions of books, films and video, audio recordings, photographs, newspapers, maps, manuscripts.

Internet Archive - millions of free texts, movies, software, music, websites, and more. Has been taken offline multiple times because of cyber attacks last month, it has recently started archiving again.

Anna's Archive - 'largest truly open library in human history.’

Queer Liberation Library - queer literature and resources. Does require applying for a library membership to browse and borrow from their collection.

List of art resources - list of art resources complied on tumblr back in 2019. Not sure if all links are still operational now, but the few I clicked on seemed to work.

Alexis Amber - TikToker who is an archivist who's whole page is about archiving. She has a database extensively recording the events of Hurricane Katrina.
