Enjoyed the good dinner served at the Umi by Vikram Garg restaurant in Waikiki. Much appreciated the steamed sea bass dish and curry plate. I was especially impressed by the restaurant's signature dessert, the mango popsicle. It had a taste that you wouldn't even get at a Michelin 3 star restaurant in Japan.

"It's Been 12 years..."
WIP 'n these sketches for them.
After nearly 8 years of working and their relationship together after a high-profile homicide case, Majima and Khloe had grown close. Majima, a former Yakuza, and Khloe, a retired FBI agent, had shared a deep bond forged through countless dangers and close calls. But when the case ended and they had to part ways, fate was not kind. Khloe believed Majima had been killed during the events of Yakuza 5, and Majima thought Khloe had moved on with her life after they lost contact. Their separation was marked by silence, and both assumed the other was lost to them.
Now, years later, Khloe is living a quiet life in Waikiki, running a restaurant, having retired from the FBI. Her daughter has just finished college, and she’s found some peace, though her heart still aches with the memories of Majima. Unexpectedly, there’s a knock at her door. Khloe opens it to see the face she never thought she’d see again—Majima, standing there with a familiar, almost mischievous smile.
“I promised I’d see you again… once I was no longer Yakuza,” he says. The last time they saw each other was back in the 2008 when Majima tells Khloe when she left Japan to go home. Now, here he is, back in her life, as if fate had always planned for this reunion.

Early departures from work and a movie night-Logan x Kaia Fan Fiction
Author's note: Hadn't expected this to happen so late at night however ever since I did wanted to do a writing project on Logan and Kaia in a very long time; then I have decided to truly write this project out of nowhere unexpectedly.
⚠️ Disclaimer: I don't own any of the pictures and none of them are mine.
📷 Credits goes to Allisha Gray and Logan Sargeant for both of the pictures obviously.
(*Author plays 'While the days are young' in the background from her iMac at her apartment of Waikiki, Oahu; Hawaii*)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Logan, I just want to let you know you are truthfully good enough for me and all of the people whom they have given you the unconditional support, Log."
"Really? Are you sure about this: Kaia?"
"Absolutely, sweetie."
"Oh."
I have never expected Kaia to be so . . . genuinely supportive based on what exactly I am going through in my very own life and yet; despite how Kaia does have a very stressful week from the way she had to confront some of the nasty customers whom they are either acting very hostile or demanding towards either to any of her co-workers or Kaia herself; she have decided to not only confront them privately and yet to let them know how do they needed to truthfully learn how to treat people in the way they wanted to be treated and vice versa; unfortunately there are always certain people who would treat you in an intense and yet an unpleasant manner to the point where stern actions has to be taken immediately plus from what I heard; Kaia had found out from a co-worker on why did message to her about how they are afraid that the same hostile customer whom they had treated them in an upsetting manner had not only given them a scare to them which not only led them to a hard decision on leaving both Kaia's nail salon and the opportunity to stay in the island of Oahu: Hawaii altogether then this is where Kaia luckily found the customer whom she not only confronted them very sternly about how they did gave a co-workers of her a scare but also at the same time; she had told them they aren't allowed to return to her nail salon for more manis and pedis but also some local citizens had said about the hostile woman whom she gave her co-worker (I'd think she might be a trainee?) a scare shouldn't be allowed to return to the islands of Hawaii due to how they didn't learn the unspoken rules and regulations on spreading the aloha spirit throughout the islands and treating people in the way they wanted to be treated.
Although she (Kaia) is willing to stay back for an extra hour however after the incident of how a customer scare one of her newer employees; she had given the special permission of an early departure on all of her co-workers to make sure no one is either harmed or had gotten hurt during the confrontation between a customer and a co worker.
Plus despite how I too faced the same experience when I am working at the Rainbow Drive In Restaurant; however thankfully by the time when the manager had decided to take stern actions on any of the customers treating any of their staffs in an unpleasant manner would be exiled from entering to the restaurant due to the concerns on many of their employees.
And to add the insult into the wound, two of our employees had left all because of that and I did felt deeply sorry for them so much to the point where I had made a silent prayer to god to wish the former employees loads of endless prayers to make sure they can seek help from any available source of help and yet having to do well through the trials and mistakes onto the new endeavors they have decided to do it anyway.
Also, since we are also allowed to have an early leave: he (My manager) had told me I may needed to take the steps back from working long hours and spend the proper time to rest and recharge my batteries both on myself and spending quality time with Kaia.
And this is where I spoke with Kaia about whether did she thinks I am good enough for me or not; however when she answers the question: I didn't expected her to say I am possibly good enough for the people whom they have supported me for a really long time in my very own life.
"You okay, Logan?" She asked me softly.
"Yeah: I am truthfully okay; um . . . do you want to watch a movie with me?"
"Even better; how about a movie marathon with me: Logan? Thus maybe I can even make dinner for you."
"Awesome; maybe you can teach me how do you cook the delicious seared mahi-mahi you did for me the other day you did for me? Maybe I can make lemonade floats just for us though while we both watch the movie together."
"Cool, I'm thinking about the 'Old Fashioned' movie ever since it is one of my all time favorite movies I have watched it ever since I was a kid when I was with my dad."
"Sure, anything for you; my queen."

Maui Brewing Company raises $1.5 million for Maui wildfire relief via their Kōkua Project.
image courtesy Maui Brewing Company Press Release Kihei, Hawaii … In response to the wildfire tragedies across the island of Maui, Maui Brewing Company spearheaded the Kōkua Project, a collaborative beer effort inspired by Sierra Nevada’s Resilience project of 2018 to raise money for those in need. Translated as “extending help to others” in the Hawaiian language, the Kōkua Project was touted as “one beer, brewed by many, to support the people of Maui”. Over 700 breweries across the United States and internationally participated in the project which began in late August to raise funds for the people of Maui. While Maui Brewing Company coordinated the efforts and provided the recipe for their suggested brew, brewing material partners jumped in with support by donating the yeast, hops, malts, and more to breweries that reached out for supplies. Ongoing email marketing kept brewing participants up-to-date on recipes, participating vendors, foundation information, events, marketing assets and logos, tap handles, and merchandising kits “From New Zealand to Japan and every US state in between, the brewing community has come together in a powerful and humbling way to support the people of Maui,” said Maui Brewing Company Founder and CEO, Garrett Marrero. “As one beer, brewed by many, Kōkua supports our Maui ‘Ohana who have been affected by the tragic wildfires. We are grateful to every brewery who has participated this year.” Maui Brewing partnered with Global Empowerment Mission to facilitate the fiscal responsibilities for the Maui Brewing Company Fire Fund. While participating breweries were encouraged to send their donations to GEM, some breweries opted to donate to Hawaii Community Foundation, Makai Foundation, or other legitimate non-profit organizations including Legacy of Aloha. Legacy of Aloha benefits Maui Brewing and TS Restaurants teammates that have been displaced and lost their belongings and livelihoods. The two restaurant groups partnered for the largest impact. Across these collaborative efforts, the beer community has raised $3M for Maui’s relief efforts with $1.5M pledged through the Kōkua Project. President and CEO of Maui Brewing Co. Restaurants, Chris Thibaut sent the update, "We're stoked to share that we've hit the $1.77M mark through the Legacy of Aloha program! The amount of support and aloha our community has shown these past few months has been truly amazing. Huge Mahalo for making a real difference in the lives of our Maui 'Ohana!" The financials provided by Legacy of Aloha did not only include brewery contributions from the Kōkua Project. The Maui Brewing Company team led by Garrett Marrero have been providing ongoing support to Maui, also facilitating supply missions, collecting vital items for the survivors, and delivering emergency drinking water to communities affected by the wildfires. As a result earlier this month, the brewing trade publication Brewbound announced their Best of 2023 Award Winners. Marrero was presented with the Person of the Year Award for “exemplifying the spirit of the craft brewing industry”. Beer lovers and those looking to support Maui’s relief efforts can donate directly to the Maui Brewing Company Fire Fund online HERE. For more information, visit MauiBrewing.com or follow @MauiBrewingCo on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. ### About Maui Brewing Company Founded in 2005, Maui Brewing Company is Hawaii’s largest craft brewery. MBC is based on Maui, with its grid-independent production brewery, restaurant and tasting room in Kihei, as well as restaurants in Kahana (Maui), Ka'anapali (Maui), Kailua (Oahu), and Waikiki (Oahu). Maui Brewing Company is available in 26 states, 1 district, and 3 international countries with more areas to follow. … from Northwest Beer Guide - News - The Northwest Beer Guide https://bit.ly/4aFdA4p

What's Nui with you?
Tumblr media
Last week I did a Donn Beach classic, and this week I decided to keep rollin' with tha Donn by making another Beachcomber drink, the Nui Nui. Created in Hollywood around 1937,it was originally named the Pupule. But Donn later changed the name(after playing with the proportions) in 1953 when it was added to the menu of the Mandalay Bar in The Colonel's Plantation Beefsteak and Coffee House at the International Marketplace in Waikiki,HI. This was an interesting place where you picked your steak out from a butcher's case and they would cook it and bring it to your table. Fun fact, the Elvis movie Paradise, Hawaiian Style had recreated the restaurant for a dining scene, and an actual former Donn employee,Lean Lontoc, was the waiter serving Elvis his steak. Pupule is Hawaiian for "to make insane or act crazy" and nui means "big/large/greatest",so the second name is probably better as this isn't a strong drink, but it is tasty. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
Mix #212 Nui Nui
2oz dark rum 1/2oz lime juice 1/2oz orange juice 1/4oz cinnamon syrup 1/4oz Donn's Spices #2* 1 dash Angostura bitters
Shake with ice and strain into glass with fresh ice. Can also be blended.
*1:1 vanilla syrup and allspice dram
Depending on who you ask, this drink can be shaken or blended. I decided to shake it. It's a spicy drink with lots of cinnamon burn and just a touch of vanilla on the end. Pretty good, but next time I think I'll double the Spices #2 just to counteract the cinnamon. The rum used can also be Jamaican dark or Virgin Islands amber, depending on the source. I used Appleton 12yr and it worked quite well. Feel free to use the rum, proportions, and mixing method you prefer to tune this the way you like it.
Remember folks,if you can't get to paradise, the Donn will bring it to you. Aloha.

Tumblr media
Chasen’s ~ “Lucy and Eva Gabor are Hospital Roomies” (1972)
In the hospital Gabor’s assistant Walter (R.G. Brown) brings Gabor's dinner on a silver tray. He says it was prepared especially for her by Chasen's, a real-life West Hollywood restaurant frequented by entertainers. It first opened in 1936 and closed for good on April 1, 1995. I visited here after reading many reviews that this is the best place for Japanese cuisine in Honolulu now that Morimoto Asia, once the best restaurant in Honolulu, has fallen into decline.
This restaurant is taking the place of the once great Nobu Waikiki restaurant, which has already gone out of business.
Enjoyed much the good Japanese cuisine at the Robata Jinya. Shrimp toast and Sukiyaki Q Ramen and chocolate ice cream were  superb.

Booking a Holiday Rental for the Holidays: What You Need to Know
Tumblr media
The holiday season is one of the best times to escape and explore new destinations, especially if you're planning a trip to a paradise like Hawaii. With its stunning beaches, rich culture, and luxurious accommodations, Hawaii is a dream destination for many, especially on the island of Oahu. If you’re thinking of booking a holiday rental to make your Hawaiian getaway truly unforgettable, here’s everything you need to know.
1. Start Your Search Early
The holiday season is one of the busiest times in Hawaii, and prime properties like a private vacation bungalow in Hawaii or luxury villas in Hawaii book quickly. Booking several months in advance is ideal if you want the best options. Last-minute bookings may still yield a few good finds, but your choices will be limited.
Early bookings allow you to access the best rates and a wider range of properties, from cozy private bungalows to expansive luxury vacation rentals on Oahu with stunning ocean views.
2. Know Your Preferences: Style, Location, and Amenities
With a variety of vacation rentals available in Oahu, it’s important to narrow down your preferences. Do you want a private vacation bungalow in Hawaii for a more secluded experience, or are you looking for something larger to accommodate family gatherings?
If location is a top priority, some of the best places to stay in Oahu, Hawaii are near popular beaches like Waikiki, Kailua, and North Shore. Each area offers a unique vibe, so research which one best matches your idea of a perfect Hawaiian holiday.
Amenities also play a big role in holiday rental choices. Many luxury vacation rentals in Hawaii, Oahu offer features like private pools, oceanfront views, spacious kitchens, and direct beach access. When booking, make sure your rental includes the amenities that are most important to you and your guests.
3. Consider Luxury Rentals for an Elevated Experience
Hawaii is known for its luxury accommodations, so if you’re looking to elevate your holiday experience, consider booking one of the luxury villas in Hawaii. These properties often come with added benefits like concierge services, private chefs, and exclusive access to certain areas or amenities.
While luxury rentals are more costly than standard vacation homes, they offer an exceptional experience that can make your holiday truly memorable. With spacious layouts, designer interiors, and proximity to some of Oahu’s best beaches, luxury villas are perfect for those who want a lavish, resort-style experience.
4. Verify Rental Policies and Requirements
Each property has its own set of policies, and it’s essential to review them carefully before booking. For example, some rentals may require a minimum stay, especially during peak holiday periods, while others may have strict check-in and check-out times.
Additionally, consider asking about the cancellation policy. Some rentals are flexible and may offer a refund if plans change, while others may have stricter policies, particularly during the holidays. Knowing these details will help you avoid unexpected charges or restrictions.
5. Take Advantage of Concierge Services for an Unforgettable Stay
Many high-end rentals offer concierge services to enhance your stay. From arranging private tours and excursions to booking reservations at top restaurants, a concierge can make your holiday planning effortless.
Concierge services also offer great insight into hidden gems and the best places to stay in Oahu, Hawaii that you might not discover on your own. They’re a great resource for guests who want to make the most of their holiday without worrying about logistics.
6. Prepare for Holiday-Specific Pricing and Minimum Stays
During the holiday season, pricing for rentals often rises due to increased demand. Be prepared to see higher rates, especially for luxury vacation rentals in Hawaii, Oahu and popular areas like Waikiki and North Shore.
Many rentals will also have a minimum stay requirement, typically around five to seven days. This means it’s worth planning for an extended stay if you’re visiting during peak holiday times to ensure you get the property you want.
7. Research Nearby Attractions and Plan Activities in Advance
Oahu is filled with incredible experiences, from snorkeling at Hanauma Bay to exploring the historic Pearl Harbor. But during the holiday season, these attractions can get busy. Booking tours, activities, and reservations in advance is a good way to avoid long lines and fully enjoy each experience.
If you’re staying at a private vacation bungalow in Hawaii or one of the luxury villas in Hawaii, check if the property has partnerships with local tour operators or discounts on popular activities. This can make planning even easier and sometimes more affordable.
8. Plan for Family or Group Needs
When booking for family or groups, consider amenities that suit everyone’s needs. For families, a rental with multiple bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a pool can make the holiday more enjoyable. Larger luxury vacation rentals in Oahu may even offer entertainment options like home theaters or game rooms.
For couples or smaller groups, a cozy bungalow or a private vacation bungalow in Hawaii is often more intimate and secluded, offering a peaceful retreat from the crowds.
9. Understand Local Culture and Respectful Tourism Practices
Hawaii has a rich culture and heritage, and respecting the land and its people is essential for any visitor. Learn about Hawaiian customs, local etiquette, and eco-friendly practices, like conserving water and protecting wildlife, especially if you’re staying near natural areas or beaches.
10. Finalize Travel Details and Transportation
Oahu has plenty of transportation options, but renting a car is often the most convenient way to explore the island. When booking your holiday rental, ask about parking options, as some rentals may have limited space or fees associated with parking.
Knowing how you’ll get around can also help you plan out your holiday schedule, ensuring you have time to enjoy all the island’s beauty and charm without any transportation concerns.
Final Thoughts
Booking a holiday rental in Hawaii is a fantastic way to make the most of your vacation, especially if you’re seeking a unique and private experience. From private bungalows to luxury villas, Hawaii offers a range of accommodations to suit any holiday style. By booking early, knowing your preferences, and taking advantage of special amenities, you can ensure a memorable and relaxing holiday season on one of the most beautiful islands in the world.

Kihei, Hawaii (August 8, 2023) – Maui Brewing Company is introducing a Kernza® Pilsner in partnership with Patagonia Provisions, the food and beverage business of outdoor apparel company Patagonia. The Kernza Pils is brewed with Organic Vienna and Organic Pilsner malts with Organic Talus and Organic Wakatu hops and Regenerative Organic Certified® Kernza®. The light-bodied beer is moderately bitter with 40 IBUs and balanced with sweetness that finishes dry. It is clear with pale straw to gold appearance and offers an elegant, floral hop aroma. Its ABV is 4.6%.
Kernza®, a deeply-rooted regenerative perennial grain, has the potential to transform the brewing industry. Kernza® stabilizes soil, requires minimal tilling, increases soil organic matter, and improves soil structure and water-holding capacity. Patagonia is confident that ongoing research will also confirm that Kernza® draws down and stores more carbon in the soil than annual grains. When used in beer, it adds a deliciously rich but subtle nutty flavor. The Regenerative Organic Certified® Kernza® used in the Kernza Pils is sourced from A-Frame Farm, a 1,200-acre Regenerative Organic Certified® farm in Madison, Minnesota.
Participating breweries and Patagonia will each contribute 1% of Patagonia beer sales to a local non-profit that supports environmental initiatives and meets 1% for the Planet eligibility criteria.
“At Maui Brewing Co, we are passionate about sustainability and environmental stewardship, and we believe in Patagonia's commitment to those values. Collaborating with a brand that shares our vision allows us to amplify our impact and reach a broader audience,” stated Kim Brisson Lutz, VP of Operations for Maui Brewing Co. “The use of Kernza® Malt in our beer collaboration is significant. By incorporating Kernza® Malt into our beer, we are promoting sustainable farming practices and contributing to the development of a more resilient and ecologically sound food system. It also offers a distinct flavor profile and a story worth sharing with beer enthusiasts who are interested in supporting environmentally friendly options. It's an opportunity to showcase how the choices we make as a brewery can have a positive impact on the environment.”
“Patagonia is thrilled to partner with Maui Brewing Company, the first off-grid brewery in the US that reuses almost everything while brewing their craft beers,” says Paul Lightfoot, Patagonia Provision’s General Manager. “Craft beer drinkers want delicious high-quality beer made with clean ingredients that are better for the planet, and we look forward to bringing that beer to Patagonia customers with Maui Brewing Company in Hawaii.”
Maui Brewing restaurant locations in Kihei, Kahana, and Ka'anapali (Maui) currently have this beer on draft, while its Kailua and Waikiki (Oahu) locations will be pouring the Kernza Pilsen the upcoming weeks.
The MBC team are stewards of their communities and the ‘aina, and curators of the craft beer way of life. Their beers have been recognized worldwide for quality and innovation.

Navigating Hawaii’s Unique Digital Marketing Landscape: A Guide for Local Businesses
Hawaii offers a unique and dynamic environment for businesses looking to establish a strong online presence. With a blend of local culture, a strong community focus, and a thriving tourism industry, Hawaii’s digital marketing landscape is distinct from that of the mainland. Marketing agencies Hawaii understand these differences, offering tailored strategies that leverage local expertise and cultural insight. This guide will explore the unique aspects of Hawaii’s digital marketing landscape and how local businesses can effectively reach their target audiences.
Why Hawaii’s Digital Marketing Landscape is Different
The digital marketing landscape in Hawaii has its own set of challenges and opportunities. With a relatively small but diverse population, a heavy reliance on tourism, and a culture deeply rooted in tradition, businesses must approach marketing with a sense of authenticity and cultural sensitivity. Hawaii’s local values prioritize community, respect, and harmony with nature, which must be reflected in a brand’s messaging and digital strategies.
Key Digital Marketing Strategies for Success in Hawaii
Emphasizing Local SEO Local SEO is essential for Hawaii businesses looking to connect with residents and tourists alike. Marketing firms in Hawaii focus on optimizing for search terms specific to Hawaii, such as “restaurants near Waikiki Beach” or “surf shops on Oahu.” By tailoring content for location-based searches, businesses can increase their visibility on search engines when people search for specific products or services in Hawaii.
Culturally Sensitive Content Marketing To resonate with Hawaiian audiences, content must be respectful and authentic. Marketing agencies Hawaii craft content that reflects Hawaiian values and culture, including local language, traditions, and stories. This could mean showcasing local artisans, using Hawaiian language phrases, or discussing how a business contributes to the local community. Such culturally relevant content strengthens connections with locals and promotes brand loyalty.
Harnessing Social Media to Connect with the Community Social media is a powerful tool for engaging with both residents and tourists. Digital marketing in Hawaii leverages platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to share local events, Hawaiian history, and updates that connect with the community. By promoting Hawaii’s natural beauty, sharing local insights, and engaging with followers in a friendly manner, businesses can foster a loyal following that values their authentic connection to the islands.
Seasonal and Event Marketing Hawaii has a unique set of holidays, festivals, and cultural events throughout the year, such as King Kamehameha Day, the Merrie Monarch Festival, and local surf competitions. Marketing agencies in Hawaii create campaigns around these events to engage local customers and attract tourists interested in experiencing Hawaiian culture. By aligning their messaging and promotions with Hawaii’s cultural calendar, businesses can capitalize on these high-traffic periods.
Engaging with Visitors Through Retargeting Ads Tourism plays a significant role in Hawaii’s economy, and many tourists seek ways to stay connected to the islands after their visit. Hawaii marketing agencies use retargeting ads to reach out to tourists after they return home, offering promotions or incentives to visit Hawaii again. Retargeting helps build lasting relationships with past visitors, encouraging them to return or recommend Hawaii businesses to friends and family.
Challenges of Digital Marketing in Hawaii
While Hawaii’s digital marketing landscape offers many opportunities, it also comes with challenges:
High Cost of Digital Advertising: Due to Hawaii’s limited population, digital ad space can be more competitive and expensive. Marketing agencies must carefully plan ad budgets to maximize returns.
Maintaining Cultural Authenticity: Content must be crafted with an understanding of local customs and sensitivities to avoid alienating residents.
Seasonal Variability in Tourism: Marketing strategies must adjust to high and low tourist seasons to reach both local audiences and visiting customers effectively.
The Role of Hawaii-Based Marketing Agencies
Hawaii-based marketing agencies bring invaluable local expertise to their digital strategies. These agencies understand Hawaii’s unique market dynamics and know how to navigate the nuances of Hawaiian culture, language, and values. By working with a local agency, businesses benefit from a partner who truly understands the intricacies of Hawaii’s digital landscape.
Conclusion
For businesses in Hawaii, digital marketing isn’t just about reaching a broad audience—it’s about connecting meaningfully with locals and visitors while respecting Hawaii’s cultural values. Marketing firms in Hawaii provide the expertise necessary to navigate this unique landscape, offering strategies that are culturally sensitive, community-oriented, and results-driven. By leveraging local SEO, culturally relevant content, social media engagement, and seasonal marketing, Hawaii businesses can grow their online presence and build lasting relationships with their customers.

So I was gonna say "You can totally still get these from restaurant supply stores" but I looked at a few and you can get red pebbled plastic tumblers, sure, but those up there are hammered plastic tumblers, which I could not (in the few sites I looked at) find in red
I also discovered that the image is from an Etsy listing (sold out)
The listing says pebbled. It is not pebbled; pebbled is a finer texture.
There are hammered texture plastic tumblers currently available in other colors
and red may still be out there somewhere, available brand new
