Enjoyed the good dinner served at the Umi by Vikram Garg restaurant in Waikiki. Much appreciated the steamed sea bass dish and curry plate. I was especially impressed by the restaurant's signature dessert, the mango popsicle. It had a taste that you wouldn't even get at a Michelin 3 star restaurant in Japan.

"It's Been 12 years..."
WIP 'n these sketches for them.
After nearly 8 years of working and their relationship together after a high-profile homicide case, Majima and Khloe had grown close. Majima, a former Yakuza, and Khloe, a retired FBI agent, had shared a deep bond forged through countless dangers and close calls. But when the case ended and they had to part ways, fate was not kind. Khloe believed Majima had been killed during the events of Yakuza 5, and Majima thought Khloe had moved on with her life after they lost contact. Their separation was marked by silence, and both assumed the other was lost to them.
Now, years later, Khloe is living a quiet life in Waikiki, running a restaurant, having retired from the FBI. Her daughter has just finished college, and she’s found some peace, though her heart still aches with the memories of Majima. Unexpectedly, there’s a knock at her door. Khloe opens it to see the face she never thought she’d see again—Majima, standing there with a familiar, almost mischievous smile.
“I promised I’d see you again… once I was no longer Yakuza,” he says. The last time they saw each other was back in the 2008 when Majima tells Khloe when she left Japan to go home. Now, here he is, back in her life, as if fate had always planned for this reunion.

Early departures from work and a movie night-Logan x Kaia Fan Fiction
Author's note: Hadn't expected this to happen so late at night however ever since I did wanted to do a writing project on Logan and Kaia in a very long time; then I have decided to truly write this project out of nowhere unexpectedly.
⚠️ Disclaimer: I don't own any of the pictures and none of them are mine.
📷 Credits goes to Allisha Gray and Logan Sargeant for both of the pictures obviously.
(*Author plays 'While the days are young' in the background from her iMac at her apartment of Waikiki, Oahu; Hawaii*)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Logan, I just want to let you know you are truthfully good enough for me and all of the people whom they have given you the unconditional support, Log."
"Really? Are you sure about this: Kaia?"
"Absolutely, sweetie."
"Oh."
I have never expected Kaia to be so . . . genuinely supportive based on what exactly I am going through in my very own life and yet; despite how Kaia does have a very stressful week from the way she had to confront some of the nasty customers whom they are either acting very hostile or demanding towards either to any of her co-workers or Kaia herself; she have decided to not only confront them privately and yet to let them know how do they needed to truthfully learn how to treat people in the way they wanted to be treated and vice versa; unfortunately there are always certain people who would treat you in an intense and yet an unpleasant manner to the point where stern actions has to be taken immediately plus from what I heard; Kaia had found out from a co-worker on why did message to her about how they are afraid that the same hostile customer whom they had treated them in an upsetting manner had not only given them a scare to them which not only led them to a hard decision on leaving both Kaia's nail salon and the opportunity to stay in the island of Oahu: Hawaii altogether then this is where Kaia luckily found the customer whom she not only confronted them very sternly about how they did gave a co-workers of her a scare but also at the same time; she had told them they aren't allowed to return to her nail salon for more manis and pedis but also some local citizens had said about the hostile woman whom she gave her co-worker (I'd think she might be a trainee?) a scare shouldn't be allowed to return to the islands of Hawaii due to how they didn't learn the unspoken rules and regulations on spreading the aloha spirit throughout the islands and treating people in the way they wanted to be treated.
Although she (Kaia) is willing to stay back for an extra hour however after the incident of how a customer scare one of her newer employees; she had given the special permission of an early departure on all of her co-workers to make sure no one is either harmed or had gotten hurt during the confrontation between a customer and a co worker.
Plus despite how I too faced the same experience when I am working at the Rainbow Drive In Restaurant; however thankfully by the time when the manager had decided to take stern actions on any of the customers treating any of their staffs in an unpleasant manner would be exiled from entering to the restaurant due to the concerns on many of their employees.
And to add the insult into the wound, two of our employees had left all because of that and I did felt deeply sorry for them so much to the point where I had made a silent prayer to god to wish the former employees loads of endless prayers to make sure they can seek help from any available source of help and yet having to do well through the trials and mistakes onto the new endeavors they have decided to do it anyway.
Also, since we are also allowed to have an early leave: he (My manager) had told me I may needed to take the steps back from working long hours and spend the proper time to rest and recharge my batteries both on myself and spending quality time with Kaia.
And this is where I spoke with Kaia about whether did she thinks I am good enough for me or not; however when she answers the question: I didn't expected her to say I am possibly good enough for the people whom they have supported me for a really long time in my very own life.
"You okay, Logan?" She asked me softly.
"Yeah: I am truthfully okay; um . . . do you want to watch a movie with me?"
"Even better; how about a movie marathon with me: Logan? Thus maybe I can even make dinner for you."
"Awesome; maybe you can teach me how do you cook the delicious seared mahi-mahi you did for me the other day you did for me? Maybe I can make lemonade floats just for us though while we both watch the movie together."
"Cool, I'm thinking about the 'Old Fashioned' movie ever since it is one of my all time favorite movies I have watched it ever since I was a kid when I was with my dad."
"Sure, anything for you; my queen."

Maui Brewing Company raises $1.5 million for Maui wildfire relief via their Kōkua Project.
image courtesy Maui Brewing Company Press Release Kihei, Hawaii … In response to the wildfire tragedies across the island of Maui, Maui Brewing Company spearheaded the Kōkua Project, a collaborative beer effort inspired by Sierra Nevada’s Resilience project of 2018 to raise money for those in need. Translated as “extending help to others” in the Hawaiian language, the Kōkua Project was touted as “one beer, brewed by many, to support the people of Maui”. Over 700 breweries across the United States and internationally participated in the project which began in late August to raise funds for the people of Maui. While Maui Brewing Company coordinated the efforts and provided the recipe for their suggested brew, brewing material partners jumped in with support by donating the yeast, hops, malts, and more to breweries that reached out for supplies. Ongoing email marketing kept brewing participants up-to-date on recipes, participating vendors, foundation information, events, marketing assets and logos, tap handles, and merchandising kits “From New Zealand to Japan and every US state in between, the brewing community has come together in a powerful and humbling way to support the people of Maui,” said Maui Brewing Company Founder and CEO, Garrett Marrero. “As one beer, brewed by many, Kōkua supports our Maui ‘Ohana who have been affected by the tragic wildfires. We are grateful to every brewery who has participated this year.” Maui Brewing partnered with Global Empowerment Mission to facilitate the fiscal responsibilities for the Maui Brewing Company Fire Fund. While participating breweries were encouraged to send their donations to GEM, some breweries opted to donate to Hawaii Community Foundation, Makai Foundation, or other legitimate non-profit organizations including Legacy of Aloha. Legacy of Aloha benefits Maui Brewing and TS Restaurants teammates that have been displaced and lost their belongings and livelihoods. The two restaurant groups partnered for the largest impact. Across these collaborative efforts, the beer community has raised $3M for Maui’s relief efforts with $1.5M pledged through the Kōkua Project. President and CEO of Maui Brewing Co. Restaurants, Chris Thibaut sent the update, "We're stoked to share that we've hit the $1.77M mark through the Legacy of Aloha program! The amount of support and aloha our community has shown these past few months has been truly amazing. Huge Mahalo for making a real difference in the lives of our Maui 'Ohana!" The financials provided by Legacy of Aloha did not only include brewery contributions from the Kōkua Project. The Maui Brewing Company team led by Garrett Marrero have been providing ongoing support to Maui, also facilitating supply missions, collecting vital items for the survivors, and delivering emergency drinking water to communities affected by the wildfires. As a result earlier this month, the brewing trade publication Brewbound announced their Best of 2023 Award Winners. Marrero was presented with the Person of the Year Award for “exemplifying the spirit of the craft brewing industry”. Beer lovers and those looking to support Maui’s relief efforts can donate directly to the Maui Brewing Company Fire Fund online HERE. For more information, visit MauiBrewing.com or follow @MauiBrewingCo on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. ### About Maui Brewing Company Founded in 2005, Maui Brewing Company is Hawaii’s largest craft brewery. MBC is based on Maui, with its grid-independent production brewery, restaurant and tasting room in Kihei, as well as restaurants in Kahana (Maui), Ka'anapali (Maui), Kailua (Oahu), and Waikiki (Oahu). Maui Brewing Company is available in 26 states, 1 district, and 3 international countries with more areas to follow. … from Northwest Beer Guide - News - The Northwest Beer Guide https://bit.ly/4aFdA4p

What's Nui with you?
Tumblr media
Last week I did a Donn Beach classic, and this week I decided to keep rollin' with tha Donn by making another Beachcomber drink, the Nui Nui. Created in Hollywood around 1937,it was originally named the Pupule. But Donn later changed the name(after playing with the proportions) in 1953 when it was added to the menu of the Mandalay Bar in The Colonel's Plantation Beefsteak and Coffee House at the International Marketplace in Waikiki,HI. This was an interesting place where you picked your steak out from a butcher's case and they would cook it and bring it to your table. Fun fact, the Elvis movie Paradise, Hawaiian Style had recreated the restaurant for a dining scene, and an actual former Donn employee,Lean Lontoc, was the waiter serving Elvis his steak. Pupule is Hawaiian for "to make insane or act crazy" and nui means "big/large/greatest",so the second name is probably better as this isn't a strong drink, but it is tasty. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
Mix #212 Nui Nui
2oz dark rum 1/2oz lime juice 1/2oz orange juice 1/4oz cinnamon syrup 1/4oz Donn's Spices #2* 1 dash Angostura bitters
Shake with ice and strain into glass with fresh ice. Can also be blended.
*1:1 vanilla syrup and allspice dram
Depending on who you ask, this drink can be shaken or blended. I decided to shake it. It's a spicy drink with lots of cinnamon burn and just a touch of vanilla on the end. Pretty good, but next time I think I'll double the Spices #2 just to counteract the cinnamon. The rum used can also be Jamaican dark or Virgin Islands amber, depending on the source. I used Appleton 12yr and it worked quite well. Feel free to use the rum, proportions, and mixing method you prefer to tune this the way you like it.
Remember folks,if you can't get to paradise, the Donn will bring it to you. Aloha.

Mahalo, 1376 9th Ave #2309, San Francisco (Inner Sunset), CA 94122
Tumblr media
Mahalo is a humble Hawaiian café with a wide menu that includes combination plates, Hawaiian BBQ (seafood – garlic shrimp, fried fish, beef – loco moco, short ribs, hamburger steak), chicken (BBQ, katsu), kalua pork, musubi, Atkins plates, healthier plates, BBQ bowls, salads, appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, Hawaiian breakfast, and desserts. They have bottled and canned beverages, including Hawaiian Sun.
Not too many places offer different types of musubi. They have four kinds of musubi: grilled Spam, BBQ chicken, chicken katsu, and Portuguese sausage.
Musubi combo (1 spam, 1 BBQ chicken, 1 chicken katsu, $9.45): Pretty standard looking musubi with plain steamed white rice, protein on top, wrapped in nori. The rice was totally plain and didn’t stick together. The rice kept falling off. I think they could easily make a tastier musubi by adding furikake to the rice. I’m not sure why it kept falling apart. The proteins were better. The spam slice was thick and grilled and had a little teriyaki sauce. The BBQ chicken was in a sweet teriyaki sauce. My favorite was the crunchy chicken katsu. The chicken was tender.
It’s an older building…I think I went there years ago when it was another restaurant. The laminate floor and counter looked new and they added a big photo of Waikiki Beach.
I’ve had better Spam musubi from lots of places. Parking is difficult in the area.
3 out of 5 stars

To teach Harry a lesson, Lucy takes Harry to lunch and has Kim wait on him. She is making 40 cents an hour. Lucy orders a hamburger and iced tea. Harry’s usual is a salad - which Kim spills all over him - deliberately. She then dumps an ice cold glass of iced tea in his lap!
Tumblr media
Chasen’s ~ “Lucy and Eva Gabor are Hospital Roomies” (1972)
In the hospital Gabor’s assistant Walter (R.G. Brown) brings Gabor's dinner on a silver tray. He says it was prepared especially for her by Chasen's, a real-life West Hollywood restaurant frequented by entertainers. It first opened in 1936 and closed for good on April 1, 1995. Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz were regulars and had their own private booth there. Although it is mentioned, no scenes are set there.
Tumblr media
Schwab’s Drug Store ~ “The Case of the Reckless Wheelchair Driver” (1972)
Kim says she saw Billy Joe Jackson (Jim Bates) at Schwab's. Schwab’s Pharmacy was a drug store located on Sunset Boulevard and was a popular hangout for wannabe movie actors from the 1930s through the 1950s. Schwab’s also had a soda fountain serving ice cream and light meals. It is Hollywood legend that actress Lana Turner was discovered at Schwab’s. Schwab’s closed its doors in October 1983 and five years later was demolished. Schwab’s was mentioned on “I Love Lucy” in “Lucy Wants to Get Into Pictures” (1955).
Tumblr media

Tumblr media
Persian Restaurant ~ “Lucy and Her Prince Charming” (1972)
Lucy is dating a handsome man (Ricardo Montalban) who turns out to be royalty. When Harry finds out that the Prince is in love with Lucy, he'll stop at nothing to get the two married - including masquerading as a fortune teller during their date at a Persian-themed restaurant.
Tumblr media
Villa Roma  ~ “Lucy’s Last Blind Date” (1973)
When Harry finds out his cousin Ben (Don Knotts) is rich and single, he wants Lucy to go on a blind date with him.
BEN (to Lucy, about the menu): “I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but this is all in a foreign language.”  LUCY: “It’s Italian. You kinda have to expect that in a restaurant called the Villa Roma.”

Tumblr media
The Proud Penguin ~ “Lucy and the Franchise Fiasco” (1973)

Tumblr media
Refreshment Stand at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum ~ “Lucy and the Big Game” (1973)
Lucy and Harry recieve tickets to a football game between the USC 'Trojans’ and the University of Oklahoma 'Sooners’. Two visiting team fans (Cliff Norton and Al Checco) pass by singing the title song of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. Although the Coliseum is a real place, the gate area was recreated on a Paramount soundstage.
Tumblr media
Restaurant ~ “Lucy and Andy Griffith” (1973)
Lucy has coffee with Andy Johnson (Andy Griffith) to talk about his work with underprivileged youth. In the next scene, Kim and Harry meet at the same restaurant and sit in the same booth!  The red booths used in the episode were also seen in the Bradshawe Building Coffee Shop.

To prove that a waitress Mary was let go because of her age, Kim goes undercover as a new hire. She deliberately turns the restaurant upside down to prove how capable Mary was. This is the last episode of the series. Fittingly, Harry gets a pie in the face.

Beach Vacation in Hawaii: A Paradise Worth Exploring
Hawaii, a tropical haven in the Pacific Ocean, is synonymous with pristine beaches, lush landscapes, and an unparalleled sense of serenity. Whether you’re seeking adventure, relaxation, or a little bit of both, a beach vacation in Hawaii offers everything you could dream of. From turquoise waters and golden sands to unique cultural experiences, the islands of Hawaii promise a trip to remember.
Discovering Hawaii’s Iconic Beaches
Hawaii boasts an impressive array of beaches, each offering something distinct. From Oahu's bustling shores to Kauai’s hidden gems, there’s no shortage of breathtaking destinations.
Waikiki Beach, Oahu Perhaps the most famous beach in Hawaii, Waikiki Beach in Oahu is a hotspot for tourists. With its golden sands, gentle waves, and stunning views of Diamond Head, it’s a perfect spot for sunbathing and swimming. Surfers, both beginners and pros, flock to this iconic beach to ride its steady waves. The beach is lined with resorts, restaurants, and shopping centers, making it a lively hub for vacationers.
Ka’anapali Beach, Maui Ka’anapali Beach is a three-mile stretch of heaven located on Maui's western shore. Known for its luxurious resorts and crystal-clear waters, it’s a fantastic spot for snorkeling, paddleboarding, or simply lounging under the sun. One of its highlights is Black Rock, a popular cliff-diving location where visitors can witness daring jumps while enjoying a vibrant underwater ecosystem.
Lanikai Beach, Oahu For those seeking tranquility, Lanikai Beach is a hidden treasure. This beach, often rated among the world’s best, is the epitome of paradise with powdery white sands and calm turquoise waters. It’s perfect for kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, as the nearby Mokulua Islands provide a picturesque backdrop.
Hapuna Beach, Big Island Big Island’s Hapuna Beach is ideal for families. With its wide sandy shores, gentle waves, and lifeguard presence, it’s a safe and enjoyable spot for kids and adults alike. During the winter months, it’s also a fantastic location for whale watching.
Activities to Enrich Your Beach Vacation
While Hawaii’s beaches are mesmerizing, there’s much more to explore beyond sunbathing. The islands are brimming with activities to make your vacation unforgettable.
Snorkeling and Diving: Hawaii’s waters are teeming with marine life, including colorful fish, sea turtles, and coral reefs. Hanauma Bay on Oahu and Molokini Crater in Maui are among the best snorkeling spots.
Surfing: Known as the birthplace of surfing, Hawaii offers some of the best waves in the world. Beginners can take lessons at Waikiki Beach, while seasoned surfers can tackle the massive waves of Oahu’s North Shore.
Sunset Cruises: Witnessing a Hawaiian sunset from the deck of a boat is a magical experience. Many cruises offer dinner, cocktails, and live entertainment, making it a romantic activity for couples.
Hiking: Hawaii’s natural beauty extends beyond its beaches. Trails such as the Kalalau Trail in Kauai or the Diamond Head hike in Oahu provide breathtaking views of the islands' landscapes.
The Unique Culture of Hawaii
A trip to Hawaii isn’t just about beaches; it’s also an opportunity to immerse yourself in its rich culture and history. The Aloha spirit, a way of life centered on love, compassion, and harmony, is deeply ingrained in Hawaiian culture.
Luau Experiences: No Hawaiian vacation is complete without attending a traditional luau. These vibrant celebrations feature hula dancing, fire knife performances, and delicious Hawaiian cuisine, such as kalua pork and poi.
Hawaiian History: Explore historical sites such as Pearl Harbor on Oahu or Pu’uhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park on the Big Island. These landmarks provide a glimpse into Hawaii’s fascinating past.
Local Crafts and Music: From ukulele music to handmade leis and intricate wood carvings, Hawaii’s local art scene is a testament to its rich heritage.
When to Visit Hawaii
Hawaii is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit depends on your preferences. Winter months (December to February) are ideal for escaping colder climates and experiencing whale watching. However, this is also peak tourist season, so beaches and resorts might be more crowded. Summer months (June to August) offer calmer waters and warmer weather, perfect for water sports and beach days.
Planning Your Beach Vacation
To make the most of your Hawaiian getaway, it’s essential to plan ahead.
Accommodation: Hawaii offers a range of lodging options, from luxury resorts to budget-friendly vacation rentals. Beachfront properties provide the ultimate experience, but booking early is recommended, especially during peak seasons.
Transportation: Renting a car is the best way to explore the islands at your own pace. Public transportation is available but may not reach some remote beaches or attractions.
Packing Essentials: Pack light, breathable clothing, swimwear, sunscreen, and water shoes for exploring rocky areas. A reef-safe sunscreen is a must to protect Hawaii’s fragile marine ecosystem.
Conclusion
A beach vacation in Hawaii is a bucket-list experience that combines natural beauty, adventure, and cultural richness. Whether you’re watching the sunset over Waikiki, snorkeling with sea turtles in Maui, or exploring the hidden coves of Kauai, Hawaii has something to offer every traveler. With its warm Aloha spirit and stunning landscapes, a trip to Hawaii is not just a vacation—it’s a rejuvenation of the soul.

Guide: Honolulu, Hawaii - What to do and Where to go on Oahu
I’ve been to Honolulu a few times! The first time was with my family when my Dad was working on a special for Fox in 2000, which was a Britney Spears concert featuring Destiny’s Child and Joe (sings “I Wanna Know)! Then I also went with Josh, part of our island hopping after we got engaged in Maui in 2013. We also went for Thanksgiving in 2023 with a baby and a toddler. Those were 3 very different trips as you can imagine!
Oahu, the "Gathering Place," isn't just another pretty island; it's a Hawaiian party you’re invited to! Think lush volcanic peaks plunging into turquoise waters, waves that’ll make surfers drool, and enough shave ice to give you a brain freeze (in the best way possible). Want to hang with Mickey Mouse in a Hawaiian shirt? Aulani's your jam. Fancy a wild encounter? The Honolulu Zoo's got you covered (just try not to challenge the monkeys to a staring contest). Prefer underwater adventures? Dive into the Waikiki Aquarium and say "Aloha" to the colorful reef fish. Feeling a bit more historical? Hike Diamond Head for panoramic views or take a poignant trip to Pearl Harbor. And because no Hawaiian adventure is complete without a sweet treat, we'll point you in the direction of some seriously epic ice cream spots (because calories don't count on vacation, right?). So, ditch the mainland worries, grab your flip-flops, and get ready for an Oahu adventure that’s as diverse as it is delightful!
Where to Stay in Oahu
I’ve stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort a few times now and highly recommend it over other hotels! If you’ve seen the Waikiki skyline, it’s the hotel with the rainbow towers. It was the perfect place for a family, or can be great for couples or parties too, with multiple fun pool areas and located as the name of the resort suggests, right on Waikiki Beach!
Why You Should Shack Up at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort
This isn't just a hotel; it's a village! A sprawling oasis of fun, sun, and all things Hawaiian. Think of it as a mini-city dedicated to relaxation and good vibes, complete with its own lagoon, shops, restaurants, and (most importantly) ice cream opportunities.
Why the Lei-ing Around at the Hilton Hawaiian Village is a Must:
Location, Location, Aloha-cation! Situated on Waikiki's widest stretch of beach, you're steps away from the sand, surf, and stunning ocean views. It’s like having your own private slice of paradise (with a few thousand of your closest friends).
More Than Just a Room (It's a Whole Vibe): Forget cramped hotel rooms. The Hilton Hawaiian Village is a sprawling resort with multiple towers, each offering unique views and experiences. You could practically get lost exploring the grounds (in a good way!).
Activities Galore (You Might Need a Vacation From Your Vacation): From surfing lessons and catamaran cruises to lei making and hula dancing, there’s never a dull moment. You might need to schedule some downtime to recover from all the fun!
Food, Glorious Food (and Ice Cream!): With over 20 restaurants and bars, you’ll find everything from casual poolside snacks to fine dining experiences. And yes, there are plenty of places to grab a sweet, refreshing scoop of ice cream (more on that later!).
A Few Highlights That'll Make You Say "Aloha Awesome!":
Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon: This five-acre saltwater lagoon is perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, and kayaking. It’s like having your own private ocean playground (without the waves crashing in your face).
Paradise Pool: This isn't your average hotel pool. We're talking waterfalls, slides, and plenty of space to lounge and soak up the sun. It's basically a water park within a resort!
The Beach (Duh!): With Waikiki Beach right at your doorstep, you can spend your days building sandcastles, taking a dip in the ocean, or simply relaxing and watching the surfers catch some waves.
Shopping, Shopping, Shopping! The resort has its own shopping village with a variety of stores selling everything from souvenirs and beachwear to high-end fashion. So, if you forget your swimsuit (or just want to treat yourself), you’re covered.
Ice Cream, Glorious Ice Cream! Okay, I promised ice cream, and I deliver! With multiple locations within the village offering a variety of flavors and treats, you can satisfy your sweet tooth anytime. Lappert’s is a MUST!
In a Coconut Shell: The Hilton Hawaiian Village is more than just a place to stay; it's a destination in itself. It’s a place where you can experience the best of Waikiki, relax in style, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
When Josh and I went in 2013, we used points and stayed at the Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach. It was nice, but not like a resort. They had a pool, but wasn’t very resort like. You’d probably be better off walking to the beach which was just down the street. The upside was our room was huge and had a view of Diamond Head.
What to do in Oahu (hey, that rhymes!)
Oahu is a busier island compared to Maui or Kauai and Honolulu is more city like (like a nicer Santa Monica) in respects to restaurants, shops, and hotels. However, I hear the North Shore is where everyone goes to get away from the noise! I haven’t been to the north shore though.
Day trip in Honolulu: Visit Disney’s Aulani
Aulani is fun whether you’re a Disney fan or not, but let’s face it, I wanted to go check it out because I love Disney! Aulani is where Hawaiian culture meets Disney magic, creating a unique and unforgettable experience. It's like a luau and a Disney movie had a beautiful, tropical baby.
Not interested in staying at the resort and want to just stop by? If you go just past the Aulani resort, there is a public beach and a parking lot that gives you access to this perfect spot to spend the day. We picked up breakfast from Eggs n Things (walking distance from the Aulani resort) and had a beach breakfast, but there is also a Monkeypod Restaurant (with my fave Mai tais), or Black Sheep Cream Co (someone say ice cream?)!
For public parking: Drive down Aliinui Dr, make a right on Kamoana Place, and head to the end of the street into the parking lot 91100 Kamoana Place, Kapolei, HI 96707. There are limited spots so get there before 8a. If you walk through the parking lot towards the ocean, you will be right next to the Aulani resort and in their lagoon area.
Why the Hula-Hoopla about Aulani?
It's Not Just a Hotel, It's an Immersion: Aulani isn't just a place to sleep; it's a fully immersive experience. From the moment you arrive, you're transported to a world of Hawaiian storytelling, culture, and (of course) Disney enchantment.
Something for Everyone (Even the Grumpy Gus): Whether you're a thrill-seeker, a relaxation enthusiast, or a die-hard Disney fan, Aulani has something for you. Kids will be in paradise with the pools, water slides, and character meet-and-greets, while adults can unwind at the spa, enjoy fine dining, or sip cocktails by the ocean.
Hawaiian Culture Woven Throughout: Aulani isn't just about Mickey Mouse; it's deeply rooted in Hawaiian culture. From the architecture and artwork to the activities and storytelling, you'll learn about the rich traditions and history of the islands. It’s educational AND fun – sneaky, Disney, sneaky!
Character Meet-and-Greets with a Hawaiian Twist: Imagine meeting Mickey Mouse in his Hawaiian shirt or Minnie Mouse in a beautiful floral dress. It's the classic Disney magic you love, with a fun tropical twist. Prepare for some adorable photo ops as I even bumped into Chip and Dale!
- A Few Reasons Why You'll Be Saying "Aloha Aulani!":
Waikolohe Valley: This isn't your average hotel pool. We're talking multiple pools, water slides (including the thrilling Volcanic Vertical!), a lazy river, and even a splash zone for the little ones. It's a water wonderland!
Aunty's Beach House: This supervised kids' club is a dream come true for parents. While the kids are having a blast with games, crafts, and Hawaiian-themed activities, the adults can enjoy some much-needed relaxation time. It's a win-win!
Laniwai – A Disney Spa: Need some pampering? Laniwai Spa offers a range of relaxing treatments inspired by Hawaiian traditions. It's the perfect place to unwind and rejuvenate after a day of fun in the sun.
Dining with Character (and Delicious Food): From casual poolside snacks to fine dining experiences, Aulani offers a variety of dining options to satisfy every palate. And yes, you can even dine with some of your favorite Disney characters!
The Beach!: Let's not forget the beautiful beach right outside the resort. Build sandcastles, take a dip in the ocean, or simply relax and soak up the Hawaiian sun.
In a nutshell: Aulani is more than just a vacation; it's an experience. It's a place where you can create unforgettable memories with your family, immerse yourself in Hawaiian culture, and experience the magic of Disney in a whole new way.
Why Lappert's Ice Cream in Waikiki is a MUST-TRY (and a few flavors to get you started!)
Okay, listen up, fellow travelers and sweet treat enthusiasts! If you find yourself strolling along the sunny shores of Waikiki, with the warm Hawaiian breeze whispering sweet nothings in your ear, there's one pit stop you absolutely CANNOT miss: Lappert's Ice Cream.
Forget those sad, mass-produced scoops you find at the grocery store. Lappert's is the real deal, a true taste of Aloha in every lick. This isn't just ice cream; it's an experience. It's like a mini-vacation for your taste buds, a tropical party in your mouth!
Why the Hula-Baloo about Lappert's?
Locally Made with Love: Lappert's isn't some big mainland chain. They're a homegrown Hawaiian gem, crafting their ice cream with the freshest ingredients and a whole lotta aloha spirit. You can taste the difference!
Flavors That'll Make You Say "Whoa!": Forget boring vanilla (unless it's Tahitian Vanilla, because, well, that's just classy). Lappert's boasts a dazzling array of unique and drool-worthy flavors that'll make your head spin faster than a hula dancer.
Perfect Waikiki Treat: What's better than strolling along Waikiki Beach with a cone of pure deliciousness in hand? Nothing, that's what. It's the ultimate way to cool down after a day of sun, sand, and surf.
Okay, Okay, I'm Sold! But What Flavors Should I Try?
Alright, here are a few Lappert's flavor suggestions to get your taste buds tingling:
Kona Coffee: If you're a coffee lover, this is your jam. Rich, creamy, and packed with the bold flavor of Kona coffee, it's like a caffeine kick and a dessert all in one. Perfect for that afternoon pick-me-up!
Hawaiian Sea Salt Caramel: Sweet, salty, and oh-so-decadent, this flavor is a symphony of contrasting tastes that somehow harmonize perfectly. It's like a caramel hug with a salty kiss.
Macadamia Nut: You can't go to Hawaii without trying macadamia nuts, and Lappert's Macadamia Nut ice cream is the perfect way to do it. Creamy, nutty, and utterly irresistible.
Tropical Dreams (like Passion Fruit or Mango): If you're feeling adventurous, dive into one of Lappert's tropical flavors. These vibrant and fruity scoops are like a burst of sunshine in your mouth.
Pro-Tip: Don't be shy about asking for samples! The friendly staff at Lappert's are usually happy to let you try a few flavors before you commit.
I suddenly have a craving for some Kona Coffee ice cream...
Food and Restaurants on Oahu
Monkeypod (In the Outrigger Reef Resort - 2169 Kālia Rd unit 111, Honolulu, HI 96815 or next to the Aulani resort) ALWAYS go to Monkeypod... Any chance you get. We like to go during Happy Hour for the discounted prices, sunset, and drinks. What could be happier?
See our full review: Monkeypod Kitchen
Food Truck Park (1944 Kalākaua Ave, Honolulu, HI 96815) We found food trucks within walking distance of our hotel with tons of different options of any cuisine you could think of. It was perfect with the little ones because we got out on a walk and then had so many cusines to choose from. Some places had picnic tables but we opted to take food back to our room to enjoy our ocean view. We grabbed burgers, BBQ, Mac n Cheese, shave ice from their respective trucks!
A Few Things to Know About Food Trucks Before You Roll Out:
Cash is King (Sometimes): While some trucks accept cards, it's always a good idea to have some cash on hand, just in case.
Embrace the Lines (They're Worth It): Popular trucks can have lines, but trust me, the wait is usually worth the culinary reward. Plus, it's a great opportunity to people-watch and soak up the local vibes.
BYOB (Bring Your Own… Blanket!): Some parks have seating areas, but it's always a good idea to bring a blanket or towel to spread out and enjoy your feast picnic-style.
Check Social Media: Many food trucks post their locations and hours on social media, so it's a good idea to check their pages before you head out.
(Note: Food truck lineups can change, so it's always best to check for current vendors.)
A Few Food Truck Must-Trys (Because I Know You're Curious):
Garlic Shrimp: You can't go to Hawaii without trying garlic shrimp, and many food trucks offer their own delicious versions of this local favorite.
Plate Lunch: This Hawaiian staple typically includes two scoops of rice, macaroni salad, and a protein like kalua pig, chicken katsu, or teriyaki beef. It's a hearty and satisfying meal.
Poke Bowls: Fresh, flavorful, and oh-so-Instagrammable, poke bowls are a must-try for any seafood lover.
Shave Ice (For That Sweet Ending!): No food truck adventure is complete without a refreshing shave ice. Choose from a rainbow of flavors and add some sweet toppings like condensed milk or azuki beans. It's the perfect way to cool down on a hot Hawaiian day. Many food truck gatherings will have a dedicated shave ice vendor. If not, look for a stand nearby!
Don't Forget Dessert! While many food trucks focus on savory dishes, keep your eyes peeled for dessert trucks offering everything from gourmet cookies and brownies to malasadas (Portuguese donuts) and, of course, ice cream! It's the perfect sweet ending to your food truck feast.
Diamond Head: I'm Not a Hiker, But Even I Conquered This Volcanic Dude (And You Can Too!)
Okay, let's be real. I'm not exactly what you'd call an "avid hiker." My idea of a good workout usually involves a brisk walk to the freezer for ice cream. But even I was captivated by the majestic allure of Diamond Head, that iconic volcanic crater looming over Waikiki. So, if a self-proclaimed non-hiker like me can conquer this Hawaiian landmark, then you absolutely can too!
This isn't just a hike; it's a mini-adventure through history, geology, and some seriously stunning views. So, lace up your (most comfortable) shoes, grab some water, and let's embark on this slightly-sweaty-but-totally-worth-it journey!
A Little History to Get You Geologically Pumped:
Not Actually a Diamond: Contrary to popular belief, there are no actual diamonds to be found in Diamond Head. The name came from British sailors in the 19th century who mistook calcite crystals for diamonds. Oops!
A Volcanic Legacy: Diamond Head (or Lēʻahi in Hawaiian) is a tuff cone formed by a volcanic eruption about 300,000 years ago. Talk about ancient history!
Strategic Military Post: In the early 20th century, the U.S. military built fortifications within the crater to protect Honolulu. You can still see some of these remnants along the trail.
Parking: The Not-So-Fun Part (But We'll Get Through It Together):
Get There Early (Seriously): Parking at the Diamond Head State Monument is limited, and it fills up fast, especially on weekends and holidays. Aim to arrive as close to opening time (6:00 AM) as possible. Trust me, future-you will thank you.
Reservation Required: You must have a reservation to visit so book up to 30 days in advance. See the Go State Hawaii Parks site for all the info.
Don’t Hold It! There are public restrooms available.
Parking Fees: There is a fee for parking inside the crater. It's best to check the official Hawaii State Parks website for the most up-to-date pricing.
Alternative Options: If parking inside is full (which it probably will be if you don't arrive at the crack of dawn), you can park outside the crater and walk in. It's a bit of a walk, but it's a good warm-up for the hike. Consider taking the bus or a rideshare if you don't have a car.
The Hike: It's Not as Scary as It Looks (I Promise!):
The Trail: The hike is a 1.6-mile roundtrip trail that climbs 560 feet. It's mostly paved, but there are some uneven sections and stairs, including a long, winding staircase inside a tunnel.
How Long Does It Take? Most people can complete the hike in about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on their pace and how many photo stops they make (and trust me, you'll be making a lot).
What to Bring: Water (essential!), sunscreen, a hat, comfortable shoes (no flipflops), and a camera to capture those epic views.
The View From the Top: Worth Every Step (Even the Sweaty Ones):
Panoramic Perfection: The view from the summit is absolutely breathtaking. You'll be treated to panoramic views of Waikiki, the Pacific Ocean, and the surrounding mountains. It's like a postcard come to life!
Photo Ops Galore: Get ready to snap some seriously Instagram-worthy photos. You can see the Waikiki skyline as well as ocean views. There was also a darling lighthouse below the peak, which was built in 1917.
Bragging Rights: You conquered Diamond Head! Now you can officially brag to all your friends and family (and maybe even get a little bit of hiking street cred).
Hiking Diamond Head is a must-do for any visitor to Oahu, even if you're not a hardcore hiker. It's a relatively short and manageable hike with a huge payoff: stunning views, a dose of history, and the satisfaction of conquering a volcanic crater. So, go for it! You might just surprise yourself (and discover a newfound love for slightly-sweaty outdoor adventures). If you do go, keep in mind, that you deserve a celebratory shave ice after all that "hiking."
Visit Pearl Harbor
Okay, history buffs and curious travelers, gather 'round! We're diving deep (not literally, thankfully) into one of the most significant historical sites in the United States: Pearl Harbor. Now, I know what you might be thinking: "History? That sounds like homework." My poor Dad wanted to go when my sister and I were teens but we couldn’t be bothered with a museum. Sorry Dad! It was enlightening and interesting, and I appreciated much more than my teen self would have.
But trust me on this one, Pearl Harbor is way more than just dates and battleships. It's a powerful and moving experience that will leave a lasting impression.
There are 5 must-sees at Pearl Harbor that you absolutely cannot miss:
1. The USS Arizona Memorial: A Floating Tomb and a Powerful Reminder
This is the centerpiece of the Pearl Harbor experience, and for good reason. The USS Arizona Memorial straddles the sunken remains of the battleship USS Arizona, where over 1,100 sailors and Marines lost their lives. Standing on the memorial, looking down at the rusting hull below, is a truly sobering experience. You can still see oil seeping from the ship, known as the "black tears," a poignant reminder of the lives lost. It's a place for quiet reflection and remembrance. Pro tip: Tickets for the USS Arizona Memorial are free but often book up quickly. Reserve them online in advance to avoid disappointment.
2. The USS Missouri: Where World War II Officially Ended
From the beginning of the war to its very end, Pearl Harbor has a story to tell. After the somber experience at the Arizona, a visit to the USS Missouri offers a different perspective. This mighty battleship was the site of the official surrender of Japan, marking the end of World War II. Walking the deck where the Instrument of Surrender was signed is a truly historic moment. You can practically feel the weight of history in the air. Plus, it's a massive battleship! Who doesn't love exploring a giant ship?
3. The Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor: Wings Over the Water
Calling all aviation enthusiasts! This museum, located on Ford Island, is a must-see. Housed in historic hangars that survived the attack, the museum showcases a fascinating collection of aircraft from World War II and beyond. You can see bullet holes in the windows and other remnants of the attack, making the experience even more impactful. It's a great way to learn about the crucial role aviation played in the Pacific theater.
4. The USS Oklahoma Memorial: Honoring the Forgotten Ship
While the Arizona is the most well-known casualty of the attack, the USS Oklahoma also suffered devastating losses. This memorial honors the 429 crewmen who perished when the Oklahoma capsized. It's a quieter, more intimate memorial, but no less moving. It's a reminder that every life lost at Pearl Harbor is worthy of remembrance.
5. The Pearl Harbor Visitor Center: Setting the Stage
Before you embark on your Pearl Harbor journey, be sure to spend some time at the Visitor Center. Here, you'll find informative exhibits, historical films, and personal accounts that provide crucial context for the events of December 7, 1941. It's a great way to prepare yourself emotionally and intellectually for the experience.
A Few Extra Tips for Your Visit:
Dress respectfully: This is a place of remembrance, so dress appropriately.
Arrive early: Especially if you don't have advance reservations for the Arizona Memorial.
Allow ample time: There's a lot to see and absorb, so don't rush your visit.
Be prepared for emotions: Pearl Harbor is a powerful and moving experience. It's okay to feel a range of emotions during your visit.
Visiting Pearl Harbor is more than just a sightseeing trip; it's a pilgrimage to a place of immense historical significance. It's a chance to honor the lives lost, learn from the past, and reflect on the importance of peace. Aloha!
Wild Times in Waikiki: 5 Reasons to Go Wild for the Honolulu Zoo & Dive into the Waikiki Aquarium
When you think of Honolulu, images of sun-kissed beaches, surfing, and maybe a Mai Tai or two probably spring to mind. But nestled amongst the vibrant energy of Waikiki are two fantastic attractions that offer a different kind of island adventure: the Honolulu Zoo and the Waikiki Aquarium. And guess what? I'm here to tell you why you should totally add them to your itinerary!
Honolulu Zoo: Where the Wild Things Roam (Just Steps from the Beach!)
Forget dusty old zoos; the Honolulu Zoo is a tropical oasis teeming with exotic animals and lush greenery, just a stone's throw from the famous Waikiki shoreline. Here are five reasons why it's worth a visit:
See Amazing Animals You Won't See at Home (Unless You Live in Africa): From majestic lions and playful orangutans to graceful giraffes and quirky Komodo dragons, the Honolulu Zoo is home to a diverse collection of animals from around the world. It's a fantastic opportunity to see these creatures up close and learn about their unique habitats and behaviors. Plus, they have a fantastic collection of native Hawaiian species!
It's a Lush Escape from the City Buzz: Waikiki can be a whirlwind of activity, but the zoo offers a tranquil escape. Stroll through beautifully landscaped gardens, listen to the sounds of nature, and enjoy a peaceful break from the hustle and bustle. It's like stepping into a mini-jungle in the heart of the city.
Perfect for Families (and Kids at Heart): Whether you're traveling with little ones or simply embrace your inner child, the Honolulu Zoo is a fun and engaging experience for all ages. There are interactive exhibits, educational programs, and plenty of opportunities to get up close with the animals.
Support Conservation Efforts: By visiting the Honolulu Zoo, you're contributing to their important conservation work. They're actively involved in breeding programs for endangered species and educating the public about the importance of protecting wildlife and their habitats.
It's Surprisingly Affordable: Compared to other attractions in Waikiki, the Honolulu Zoo offers a great value for your money. It's a fun and enriching experience that won't break the bank.
Bonus Dive: Waikiki Aquarium - Under the Sea, Darling, It's Better Down Where It's Wetter! (couldn’t resist, I love the Little Mermaid)
Just a short walk from the zoo, you can plunge into the underwater world at the Waikiki Aquarium, the second oldest public aquarium in the United States. Here's why you should make a splash:
Discover Hawaii's Unique Marine Life: The Waikiki Aquarium focuses on showcasing the incredible diversity of marine life found in Hawaiian waters. From colorful reef fish and majestic sea turtles to fascinating jellyfish and endangered Hawaiian monk seals, you'll get a glimpse into the vibrant underwater ecosystems that surround the islands.
Get Up Close and Personal with Coral Reefs: The aquarium has stunning coral reef exhibits that allow you to see these delicate ecosystems up close. Learn about the importance of coral reefs and the threats they face.
It's Educational and Engaging: The Waikiki Aquarium offers informative exhibits and programs that are both educational and entertaining. It's a great way to learn about marine conservation and the importance of protecting our oceans.
So, next time you're in Honolulu, don't just stick to the beach (though that's definitely a must-do too!). Take a walk on the wild side at the Honolulu Zoo and dive into the depths of the Waikiki Aquarium. You might just discover a whole new side to the island paradise.
Though we LOVE Maui, I have enjoyed Oahu, a magical island where you can hike volcanic craters, surf legendary waves, snorkel with sea turtles, stuff your face with plate lunch, and maybe even spot a celebrity or two (just try not to stare at Mickey at Aulani). From the bustling city vibes of Honolulu to the laid-back surf towns of the North Shore, Oahu has something for everyone. Whether you're a thrill-seeking adventurer, a beach-bum extraordinaire, a history buff, or just someone who really, really likes pineapples, you're guaranteed to have a blast. Now go forth, explore, and remember to pack your sunscreen, your sense of adventure, and maybe an extra pair of stretchy pants for all that delicious Hawaiian food. Aloha and happy exploring!
More Hawaii? Here you go!

How to Stay Relevant in Hawaii’s Evolving Digital Scene
Introduction
In the fast-changing world of digital marketing, staying relevant is a constant challenge. For businesses in Hawaii, this means not only keeping up with technological advancements but also maintaining a strong connection with the local community. Hawaii SEO marketing offers tools and strategies to adapt to these changes while keeping businesses ahead of the competition. Let’s explore how companies can stay relevant in Hawaii’s dynamic digital landscape.
Ways to Stay Ahead in Hawaii’s Digital Market
Investing in Website Updates to Stay Current: A website is often the first impression customers have of your business. Regular updates to design, functionality, and content ensure your site remains engaging and relevant. For instance, a Maui-based adventure company might add interactive features like live chat for inquiries or a real-time booking system for tours, enhancing the user experience.
Exploring Video Content to Boost Engagement: Videos are one of the most effective ways to capture attention and tell your brand story. From virtual tours to tutorials, video content appeals to a wide audience. A Kona-based yoga studio might produce videos showcasing different yoga poses set against scenic Hawaiian backdrops, attracting fitness enthusiasts and tourists alike.
Targeting Hyper-Local Keywords for Better Visibility: In Hawaii, local relevance is key. Using hyper-local keywords ensures your business connects with nearby audiences. For example, a Honolulu-based bakery could optimize for phrases like “freshly baked pastries in Waikiki,” ensuring visibility for both residents and visitors searching for nearby treats. SEO Hawaii strategies excel at identifying and integrating such targeted keywords.
Building Community Through Engaging Content: Content that highlights local culture, traditions, or events can help businesses forge a deeper connection with their audience. A Kauai-based restaurant might publish blogs about traditional Hawaiian recipes or the history behind certain dishes, creating an authentic bond with customers while improving search rankings through Hawaii search engine optimization.
Monitoring Analytics to Refine Strategies: Data-driven decisions are essential for staying ahead. Tools like Google Analytics provide insights into user behavior, helping businesses identify what works and what doesn’t. A Waikiki-based surf school might discover that its video tutorials drive the most traffic and shift its content strategy accordingly to maximize engagement.
Incorporating Social Proof to Build Trust
User-generated content, reviews, and testimonials are powerful tools for establishing credibility and trust. Encouraging satisfied customers to share their experiences can enhance your reputation. A Honolulu-based spa might feature client testimonials and before-and-after images of treatments, reinforcing its quality and professionalism.
Adopting Mobile-First Design to Cater to Tourists
With most users accessing websites through mobile devices, responsive design is no longer optional. A Hawaii-based boutique hotel might include mobile-friendly features like GPS-enabled directions, easy booking interfaces, and one-click contact options, ensuring seamless experiences for on-the-go travelers.
Collaborating With Other Local Businesses
Partnering with complementary local businesses creates mutual growth opportunities. For example, a Maui-based wedding planner might collaborate with florists, caterers, and photographers, featuring them on their website while gaining backlinks that enhance SEO performance.
Conclusion
Staying relevant in Hawaii’s evolving digital scene requires a balance of innovation, local authenticity, and adaptability. By investing in regular website updates, leveraging video content, targeting hyper-local keywords, and engaging audiences through meaningful content, businesses can maintain their edge. With the support of Hawaii SEO marketing, companies can refine their strategies, build trust, and thrive in an increasingly competitive digital landscape. In Hawaii, where the local community and global visitors converge, staying relevant means creating connections that last.
