"Wai-O-Tapu No. 1" | 56 x 42 cm | soft pastels on watercolour paper
The 'Thermal Wonderland' was endlessly fascinating and inspiring for me as an artist – so many interesting minerals and colours and colour combinations. In a perfect painter's world I would have been able and allowed to simply scoop up all the pigments, but well… This painting shows Lake Ngakoro ('the grandfather'). The lake was created during an eruption about 700 years ago – and it is very green!

Besides Latias being your favorite legendary Pokémon, what would be your SECOND favorite legendary?
Heck, what's your top FIVE favorite legendary Pokémon?
Aww man. There's WAY too many at this point, even top five is hard to pick. ALRIGHT I'll try...
Latias
Ultra Necrozma
Tapu Koko
Yveltal
Koraidon
...that's a lot of red Legendaries.
Latias I don't need to further explain, but probably Ultra Necrozma. The reason why he's THAT high up my list is because Ultra Necrozma IS A G O D. Like LEGIT, this dragon made out of PURE LIGHT is the absolute PINACLE of a Legendary to me. My other picks may be more personal than him, but in terms of what makes a Legendary a LEGENDARY Pokemon to me, THIS would be it. Heck, I'd put him above ARCEUS, make those two FIGHT FOR THE TITLE OF ULTIMATE POKE-GOD oh wait they already did
Otherwise Tapu Koko would've easily made it on second place. He's my next pick for a multitude of reasons. I think Tapu Koko absolutely BEAMS with personality. I love the Tapus all very much, but Koko is definitely my favorite. And I appreciate these Legendaries in particular because of their cultural significance for Alola. I think Alola may be the only region where Legendary deitys are not only KNOWN to exist, but play an ACTIVE role in their lives, interacting with the locals, protecting the islands, choosing ambassadors in form of the Kahunas and getting honored by the people of Alola. They're just. INCREDIBLY COMPLEX AND FLESHED OUT AND I LOVE THEM
Tumblr media
Yveltal is my only pure nostalgia-pick I have to admit. Aside from me LOVING BIRDS and Yveltal being a KILLER BACON BIRD he was also the very first Legendary I ever caught by playing Pokemon Y. I may not hold much nostalgia for that game otherwise, but Yveltal definitely holds a special place in my heart.
Koraidon I just think is funny as heck. He looks SO STUPID when he's running. He's a cute goofy lizard throughout the game until he reaches his full energized form in the end and when he takes that stand he's just an ABSOLUTE badass and I LOVE that. While there's many other legendaries I could give the fifth place to, I wanted to give my appreciation for modern legendaries, because I do like the trend of some of them being included more in a personal quest. Getting to bond with them throughout your journey makes them feel much more special than others.
Tumblr media
goofy ass lizard
HONORABLE MENTIONS: I have to give a shout-out to Rayquaaza, Kyogre, Dialga and death-noodle Giratina for being my old favorites. Xerneas is also pretty cool, I do appreciate magic fairy deer. I still think Mega Rayquaaza is THE ultimate dragon because I'm basic like that. I see badass Lung-like dragon I go WAOWEEEEE
Lugia used to be my absolute favorite as a kid but I HATE the way they've been anmating him as a 3D Model, he looks as goofy and unmajestic as one can get, what have they DONE to my boy... Meanwhile Ho-oh is doing SPLENDID in 3D, it's not fair 😞 Also shout-out to Ho-oh for having the prettiest shiny of all the Legendaries. And Galarian Zapdos is a huge improvement from the original one, that one also goes into honorable mentions.
Thank you for coming to my TED-Talk.

After reading the last Grimsley story, a cute idea I've been thinking about is the opposite situation. Nanu finally falls in love but it's been so long, he has no idea on how to approach his love interest and asks Grimsley for advice (surprise surprise, it's TERRIBLE ADVICE)
Even though Nanu is usually the one with a clear head and knows to avoid trouble, he's already gone too deep, and on a night out, they both get drunk and Nanu tries to confess with his liquid courage. Grimsley is the obnoxious wingman who spurs him on in the background, chaos insues.
Maybe s/o thinks it's funny, or pitiful, or maybe both tbh. Both barely remember anything the next morning. In Malie garden, Grimsley wakes up in a bush, and Nanu would kick himself if he wasn't so damn hungover. 🥲
cw: alcohol, drinking, drunken confessions
pairing: Nanu/Reader
Nanu invited you out to the Malie Garden with the simple explanation that he wanted to talk. You headed to the teahouse to find him standing there waiting for you, except his face is flustered that it nearly matches his eyes. You blinked as another familiar sight lingered nearby… Grimsley. He was sat down on one of the benches with a familiar white serving bottle and cups. It was clear what the two had been doing before you cake along. Grimsley's paler skin flushed even brighter than Nanu's own. Shaking your head, you still approached.
“… I…ve been meaning to tell you something,” he slurred, eyes even more lidded than usual. Grimsley seemed to clap at his words before downing another drink from his cup and pouring another. You grew a bit worried about him but kept your attention on Nanu. “I… I never thought I'd feel this way again…” He continued, stepping towards you. At some point, his polite jacket had been shed off, leaving him in his red shirt. The Darkinium Z around his neck caught the moonlight beautifully. His surprisingly well-toned arms were in your sight, too. “I can't let you go… It'll be the second-worst mistake I'd ever make…” Hands grasped your arms desperately, “Look, I'm an old man, I get it, but there's nothing more I want than to spend my days with you.”
It was… Surprisingly, romantic. You were not sure if being drunk made him less prickly with his words, or if he was just like this about his feelings. Either way, it made your heart flutter… Nanu... A confession from him was truly something that you had wanted to hear. Even if Grimsley's cheering in the background subtly ruined the moment. You nodded in reply to his words, wondering if he would even remember this come the morning. It definitely would be something to bring back up when he was in a clearer headspace. His current status… Well, you wondered if he was even that aware of what he was saying. A sigh left him.
Then, he let you go and wandered off to go lay down on the bench. For a moment, you wondered if you should get them both back to his home, but it seemed a bit difficult. Nanu was not the type to stir easily, and Grimsley was not the easiest person to work with. The Tapu would not let anything happen to Nanu, so there was little to worry about there. And… Grimsley was like a cockroach. He would be fine. For now, you let yourself wander off. Tomorrow would come, and you would talk then.
~
Nanu woke up with a pounding headache and Acerola staring down at him in a panic. His back hurt and the felt like he was baking alive. The Alolan sun shined right down on him. The girl looked at him in mild disappointment. He let out a sigh as he sat up. Grimsley... Why did he agree to have drinks with him? He was no lightweight, but the gambler was something else. He looked around and realised that he had passed out in the garden. Shame should have entered his mind, but he grew apathetic to it years ago. Instead, he caught a sight of Grimsley passed out in a bush.
He felt Acerola help sit him up, but he shook his head and dismissed her. This was nothing for her to worry about. Pulling out his phone, he checked the time. It was already nearly noon. Embarrassing. But, a message caught his eye as he looked things. “Lets talk about last night today, okay?” From… you. What had he said? His brain pounded in his head, and he failed to recall. A sigh left him again. Great. A situation. Grimsley... Why did he drink with him? Part of him felt tempted to kick him while he was down, but he was not the type to trample on the less fortunate.
“… Acerola,” he spoke to the girl, “Can you make your Palosand take Grimsley?” She gasped and gave her signature surprised expression. Shaking his head, he stood up. “… Thanks for waking me up. I'm heading home. Don't worry about that guy, yeah?” He told her. She nodded and trailed after him as he wandered out of the garden, leaving Grimsley to the wild. She asked him questions about how he ended up like that. He opted against answering.
When you both finally spoke, he felt like banging his head against the wall. Sure, he was glad you felt the same way, but saying it like that…
He wanted to throttle a certain other dark-type specialist.

Lava_Beee (pretty well-known artist who draw she-ra fanart from time to time) is asking on twitter what would Adora and Catra main pokemon be. You're pretty knowledgeable when it comes to pokemon i believe, so what's your take?
hi i love lava_bee's art but here's the thing. i can't fucking answer this question. i can't. there are too many pokemon. and i don't mean this in a "i dont have every single pokemon + most of their shinies and types memorized" kind of way, because I do, i mean it is impossible for me to pick my favorite pokemon, which makes it very hard to have a "main", and even harder to ascribe a main to a character and feel.... idk, confident about it. i could give you 30 different answers and none of them would feel more correct. i've never seen a fan-team for them and went "oh yes this is the Correct answer" it's just an answer. its a little easier if you give me a specific gen and i can either 1) only use pokemon from that gen (so for gen 2 it had to be pokemon 152-251) or 2) only use pokemon from that game's regional pokedex (which includes all pokemon added to that gen and some from previous) as if we're saying okay if adora and catra were kalos trainers what would their team be, but even then, i think i would have a pool of like 20 pokemon i could call their team.
context also matters. are they casual trainers? are they gym leaders and confined by type? are they part of the evil team? are they really competitive and trying to get all the badges, and thus have balanced teams in mind? oh god are stats real in-universe? actually i refuse to acknowledge stats that makes this question a billion times harder, but typing is relevant.
anyway i think if adora was a dedicated trainer she'd care a lot about team balance but get too attached to some favorites and use them more than is logical, and if she isn't a competitive trainer than she's literally out here using her starter, the first three pokemon she befriended, and a fifth+sixth pokemon she saved spots for because she always found them really cool and had to work really hard to get
if catra is a dedicated trainer she'd be ruthless in cultivating a "perfect" team but she would end up falling for her in-universe melog equivalent and become a total softie for it even though it doesnt fit with the team so she only battles with them casually and drills her competitive team but then adora manages to talk her into a change of heart ("its not all about winning, its about the battle and the bond with your team too!") and she ends up putting melog on her final team against the champion/elite four/adora. if she's not a dedicated trainer she would outwardly refuse to learn about "good" pokemon and just pick based purely on vibes and completely ignore adora whining at her about type balance. and then she would be really good at playing around type, revealing she actually knows a lot more than she's pretending to care
and here's a small list of only some of my favorite pokemon to demonstrate what i mean: (Hisuian) Zorua (and Hisuian Zoroark but not regular) (Shiny form also) Slither Wing Torracat (Litten okay, NOT Incineroar at all) Sprigatito Chien-pao Alolan Ninetails Hisui Growlithe/Arcanine Cosmog, Cosmoem, Lunala (Solgaleo) Serperior Vivillion (Ocean, Savanna, Garden, Meadow, Marine, Sun, Elegant, Modern, Continental, Polar, Tundra) Applin (evols are good) Pumpkaboo Wooloo (not the evol) Rowlett (lowkey Dartix and Decidueye) Sinistea (not evol) & Poltchagheist (not the evol) Alcremie (varying by form but theres like 60 im not listeing them) Xerneas Marshadow Leavanny Xurkitree (shiny) Ponyta/Rapidash (kanto) and both galarian Lopunny Eevee(s) (Leafeon, Sylveon, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Espeon) Hisuian Typholosion Meowstic shiny Maerenie (and Toxapex) Dwebble Joltik Doublade Minior Mimikyu Galarian Zapdos Yveltal Lunala (esp shiny) shiny Zacian & Zamazenta Jangmo-o (and Kommo-o but not the middle) Tapu Lele Spectrier Galarian Articuno Spinda (for the mechanic) Walking Wake
NOW IMAGINE DOING THIS FOR SOMEONE WHO ISN'T EVEN YOU

F/O Headcanons: Pokemon Universe Edition!
(More will be added with time)
(Also, many of these are inspired from headcanons I’ve previously read, so you may recognize them. Unfortunately, most of these have been in my phone for a long time so I don’t remember some of the original sources; if you do though, please message me so I can give proper credits)
Aromatisse tend to make potpurri nests
Nessa and Raihan are cousins.
Leon does not know how to break open a safe or pick locks… Hop knows how to do both. In fact Hop has numerous skills that are also a little shady.
It’s hard keeping a Riolu at their beginning stage because they are very loving, loyal and friendly pokemon. Don’t give your kid a Riolu because you will be taking care of a Lucario.
Phantump can possess all kinds of tree stumps (fruit trees, redwoods, birch trees, etc.). This gives them some natural variation in appearance.
Kirlia will often "intern" under Gallade and Gardevoir in order to enhance their psychic abilities. Which one a Kirlia trains under is thought to influence its evolution if male.
Magikarp are popular among breeders because they have a good amount of variation and produce lots of eggs. You can get Magikarp/Gyarados in various colors and patterns because of this. This is also true among Rattata, but they’re less popular due to people considering them weak and boring.
Absol are known for being paranoid. They are extremely protective of their trainers and will try to prevent any negative thing from happening to them, even if that thing is "leaf blows into their face" or something equally mundane.
Sylveon and Umbreon get along surprisingly well because they're both stealth hunters.
One popular textile company uses a stylized Leavanny for their logo.
Modern Pokeballs create simulations for the Pokemon inside that make them feel like they're in a large environment. In addition to making the Pokeball feel extra comfortable, they also help keep the Pokemon enriched.
Eevee and their evolutions arguably have the cutest courtship rituals on the planet. They start off by showing interest with short yips and sniffing, studying each other. After that, play-fighting ensues. When that's done, the pair share tiny kisses on the cheek.
Umbreon can spray poison from their rings. They can poison themselves if they breathe it in accidentally due to not being poison-types, but the toxins are pretty mild.
Leavanny can fly, but only for very short distances and not very far off the ground.
A popular rumor states that the more powerful the Lucario the more black they have on their bodies, but there's nothing scientific to back up this claim.
There are some that believe that Fidough evolve faster when around fire-type Pokemon. This claim has yet to be scientifically backed, however.
Young Vulpix will actively try to get their trainers to "hold their paw for reassurance.
The Leavanny line becomes incredibly agitated if they don't have any materials to "sew" with, so make sure they have access to plenty of greenery.
Absol live in isolation out in the wild, only coming together to breed and take care of their pups.
Jolteon oddly prefer sparkling water. Many theorize that the breed generally prefer foods that cause ‘tingly’ sensations as it’s similar to the hum of electricity.
Legendary and guardian pokemon in Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, and Kalos are so rarely seen they are thought of as myths. Meanwhile the Tapu guardians in Alola have shown up in people's backyards to mess around with their sprinklers and lawn ornaments.
Luxray are used as police or medical Pokemon in Sinnoh due to their ability to see through objects and strong stature. They are good at finding and retrieving victims and people who need assistance. Along with that they can be trained to listen for heartbeats and give electricity in a way similar to an AED.
There is a superstition in Johto that if an Eevee jumps into a child's crib, the child is blessed. Often times for baby showers, the mother is gifted an Eevee egg for this very reason. When the kit hatches, it is left in the room with the baby. If the Eevee stays by the child's side, but outside the crib, the child is destined to be average and live a normal life. However, if the Eevee jumps inside the crib and sleeps next to the child, the child will be blessed with fortune, prosperity, and joy.
It's thought that having someone with a positive aura take care of Riolu eggs helps them to hatch faster.
Eevees tend to mimic the personality and habits of their trainers. If their trainer tends to be energetic, the Eevees will get a share of that energy too. If, on the other hand, the trainer tends to be more on the relaxed and a bit lazy side the Eevees will behave like that too.
Popplio are frequently used for public performances and other forms of entertainment. It works out nicely, as it serves as excellent enrichment for them
Swablu's soft, cotton-y down is a favorite filler for pillows, especially because they shed it often. Nowadays it's more common to find synthetic substitutes.
Eevee’s love to be groomed and accessorized, especially on their tail. They don't like baths though but they groom themselves well.
Hisuian Growlithe/Arcanine are still found in some volcanic regions, but they are incredibly rare and protected under law.
A group of Chingling/Chimecho are known as a gong.
While Vulpix and Ninetales have incredible fur, harming one is considered bad luck and, in some areas, sacrilegious.

Also maybe you did mention this on your blog before but if it's alright with me asking... Where do you and guz go on dates in alola and what do you guys do? (I'm gonna include thoughts of meeting you/seeing you around when I think of kiawren 🤔😁😁) (@kiawren)
ooh i don't think i have rly talked about this much (or even at all LOL) but even if i had i wouldn't mind saying it again so you're totally a-okay to ask :3 !!
putting it under the cut so ppl don't have to scroll a bunch LOL but also I'M CURIOUS ABOUT YOU TWO NOW TOO- what do y'all do for dates and stuff? 👀
I think for Guz and me, our usual dates (that involve leaving Po Town fdsjkl) in Alola are: looking for wimpods on the beaches and just general beachcombing, neither of us are really fans of just... sitting on beaches fdsjkl we always gotta be Doing smth; visiting cafes to get tapu cocoa and malasadas and ice cream and all that sort of thing (Aina's Kitchen on Melemele Island is one place that is canonical!); watching sunsets from mountains or beaches (no way are we waking up early enough to see sunrises LMAO); museums and other touristy type of things (I think Guz wouldn't have done much of that bc of his previous angst lol so a lot of it would be new for him too :3); just walking around in general tbh, I love walking and just seeing the sights even in my own neighbourhood irl LOL; OOOH and I don't know if there's any canon spots for this but I like to think there's probably some really cool tucked away natural pools of water inside of caves that would be great for swimming and cooling off in, there's some really good mountains on the different islands for that sort of thing :O
i think most of it involves just getting out around the region and spending as little money as possible fsdjkl, neither of us are big on Big Romantic GesturesTM so we keep it casual and just hang out :] I think we tend to stay on Ula'ula for the most part but we definitely make it a point to visit the other islands as much as we can because it's good to get out and see different things !!! also because Aina's Kitchen is likely a favourite spot of ours so we'd have to go to Melemele for that hehe :3

Can I request headcanons of Emmet and Guzma with a Cutiefly Hybrid! S/O please?
sure!! and how cute!! cutiefly!!
🍓🍓🍓
Emmet:
You immediately catch Emmet's attention when you walk into the station, little wings fluttering and soft fluff around your neck. Hybrids have always intrigued Emmet, and you're no exception. So he makes his way over to strike up a conversation, Joltiks on hand to impress you
It doesn't take long for you both to fall into a relationship together. Emmet just adores you, and how well you get along with his bugs. They feel kinship to you, and love to eat the static out of your fluff. Emmet does get jealous if you coo over them for too long, so mind yourself. Emmet will get pouty and clingy otherwise.
You're very little in comparison to the tall station master! Emmet loves scooping you up into his arms for hugs, carrying you around to where he wants you. He'll withhold kisses too, resisting your tugs on his shirt or tie. But he always forgets about your wings, and gets caught off guard when you flutter up to smooch him. Now he's the flustered one
He does research on Cutieflies to know more about you. You have a taste for nectar, so he does his best to find vendors that sell fine nectar, to bring home to you in exchange for kisses. Your ability to sense auras also make you such a wonderful battle partner, whether you're on a team with him or you're against him. You're able to sense his next move, and act accordingly. You're as in sync with him as Ingo sometimes, and you give him such a hard time in battle that he's head over heels
Guzma:
Guzma isn't as smooth as he likes to think he is. Seeing you, short and fluffy and cute as a Cutiefly, his first instinct is to tease. He thinks he's flirting as he tugs on your wings, but you throw pollen in his face and storm off in a huff. So he changes tactics, and acts more normal, thus opening the doors of your relationship.
Guzma also likes how tiny you are in comparison to him, even with his poor posture. He'll carry you anywhere you like, and takes masculine pride in doing so, even if he complains about it. If you try to fly away, however, he gets defensive and pouty. What, you didn't like him carrying you?? Kiss the silly man
Since Cutieflies are common in Alola, he's able to get you nectar and pollen far easier than Emmet. Most stores sell it for trainers of Cutiefly, so they come pretty cheap and easy. Guzma brings you a wide variety to see which you prefer, and even tries them himself. They're not bad, but they're not even close to his Tapu Cocoa. He'll make you some to prove it.
Your aura abilities impress Guzma, so he often takes you out to go ham on unsuspecting tourist. Your uncanny strength and Guzma's taunting often mean you get a whole crowd of cocky tourist wanting to throw their hats in the ring. The money you make from those battles helps you throw nice little feasts for all of Team Skull, who worship you as their other Big Boss, right beside Guzma
🍓🍓🍓
ta-da!! i hope these are too your liking, doll!

Miss International New Zealand 2022 National Costume
Wai-O-Tapu  The Champagne Pool is the centrepiece of the Wai-o-tapu Thermal Wonderland. This area, located in the North Island of New Zealand, was formed over thousands of years of geothermal activity. A naturally colourful hot spring featuring bright colours of aqua, green and orange, that bubbles and fizzes just like its namesake champagne. New Zealand, particularly in the region of Rotorua, is world famous for its geothermal activity, and tourists travel from far and wide to witness its thermal wonderland.

My partner and I went on a trip to Rotorua for a few days, had an amazing time wandering the town exploring! Last time I went there I was 16 and had just been through the 2011 Christchurch eathquake and didn't remember much of it, just the spa and Wai O Tapu.
Returning as an adult, not after a sudden traumatic event, was really refreshing and lovely. Had the best meal I've had in forever at El Mexicano Zapata Cantina, learnt at a pop up carnival I'm still a really good shot, had an amazing time at a karaoke bar with the locals, bathed in the hot pools, played night time mini golf with Flemish Giants, took acid and went on an adventure through Kauri park, and of course went op shopping!!! The whole trip was very cleansing and much needed, and I absolutely want to go back again, beautiful place with a lot of beautiful people.
