First Lines/Heads Up Seven Up Mashup! (Try saying that five times fast)
Thanks to @rachaellawrites for the tag!
Rules: post the first 7 lines of something - it can be a WIP, a chapter, a scene, anything!
A scene from What We Long For:
That morning, the flowers were browning and wilted, the yellow and purple petals scattering the floor below. The smell of decay replaced their sweet fragrance, and immediately I knew that something was wrong. As I walked deeper into the apartment, the smell grew stronger. Out of the corner of my eye I spotted a bare foot sticking out from behind the counter.
Tagging (no pressure!) @gummybugg @clairelsonao3 @i-can-even-burn-salad @elshells and anyone else who wants to join in!

From the weaponry ask game:
halberd: in general, how dangerous is the setting?
-HD
Thanks for the ask! Isn’t it a nightmare that we still can’t send/respond to them from side blogs?
I’ll answer this for Silver Sentinels, since WWLF takes place in our world and we already know how scary that is!
As far as physical dangers go, the small country of Caledon is still a fairly new territory. There is only one major city and a handful of smaller villages scattered throughout. Majority of the country is undiscovered or wilderness. It’s considered pretty wild and crazy to explore it without prior survival knowledge as the wildlife tends to be a bit…curious. In addition, there is a sizable group of roaming bandits who are known to be quite unforgiving.
In the capital city of Hollowglen (and to a smaller extent in the neighboring villages), there is a different kind of threat that targets intellectual freedom. The study of magic has been outlawed and even mentioning it is considered treasonous. The High Guard, defenders of the city, are ruthless in their pursuit of justice. One of the main characters, Mara, was a scholar who was exiled just for looking at a map.
Let’s just say…it’s a weird place to live.

Race #5: Humans. They are adaptable, survivalists, and have large numbers. Their ability to devise new technology and overcome obstacles is something that has long been admire by the supernatural community. Once they thought they were the top of the food chain, but when the god’s sent the plague and unleashed the monsters on the earth, well, let’s just say they got a wake up call and realized they weren’t exactly the “top” of that pyramid. They are a mortal race.

Christmas Goodies!
Good news! The stuff I ordered for myself this Christmas is being shipped! First I purchased myself a viking knife, and knife sharper block. Then I made a donation to world wild life fund to adopt a bee (with a plush and more!). I also got some sea faring/pirate books too! When they come in I’ll share pictures with you all!
I bought the knife to cut flowers as I pick them in my yard and such. I’m planning on growing a lot when spring hits! It’s time to grow my cottagecore dreams! I don’t know anything so I’ll just start with basic plants for my state’s weather and plants to help sustain butterflies and bees.

Welcome aboard, Fawn!!
Hiya, I’m Fawn! A 23 year old Canadian who spends most of her time obsessing over fictional characters, singing, acting, knitting, reading, baking, and loving my three fur babies. I love creepy/dark plots, slow burn romances and messy families! If I’m not writing or plotting, I’m probably obsessing over a 264 year old dead guy, because LOOK AT THAT FACE.

nomad stv (&WWlf Bck) shoulda been permanent, not just bc they were hot (they were) but it also made sense as a conclusion to their character arcs at the end of their trilogy & severing ties with their pasts and reforging themselves in their new future. But it's an Avngrs movie so they made Nomad just a short costume change then turned him back to "capnmurrica who loves da avengus but not more than he love the pggie inside his CoMpAsS"
jehsjshskwk yes! i totally agree, something about steve with that beard, long hair, the same thing with bucky... i know steve was on the run and prohibited in +100 countries but somehow he seemed so relaxed, so... him, after throwing that shield away and choosing bucky, steve finally found himself in the future and he was finally home, their reunion in wakanda and the fact that the directors confirmed steve used to visit bucky a lot of times just show they were meant to be together, this should have been their soft epilogue, no mantle, no more battles, just them together.

WIP Intro: What We Long For
Away on a mountain, a man lost his heart
His hope went with her and it tore him apart
Away on a mountain, clouds covered the sun
The man found a darkness he couldn't outrun
Away on a mountain, he swore his revenge
Future love would be false, all realities bent
Away on a mountain, fear the monster that rises
He will come from the shadows, will assume many guises
Away on a mountain, a man lost his heart
Now all who cross him will fall to his art
Summary
After discovering a local urban legend, Greyson Moore becomes convinced it is the cause of his sudden tragedy and begins a desperate search for answers.
Genre: Paranormal horror, (a little) romance, LGBTQ+
Themes: Love, loss, grief, possession, memory, time, regret
Content Warnings: 18+, mature content, angst, emotional abuse (not between MC), mental health, depression, mention of suicide, death, trauma (I will update these as needed)
Tropes: angst, dark humor, mystery/thriller, ghost story, urban legends, (and many more!)
This story is very important to me. It was inspired by a random word I saw while deep-diving on Wikipedia one day. Saudade, a Portuguese word, doesn't have an exact translation but most agree it means a feeling of longing or nostalgia for something absent or even non-existant. I became inspired to create my own urban legend based on this idea and after thinking about all the people I've seen experience true grief after leaving a relationship. Some of the struggles the MCs will face are also loosely based on my own experience in an emotionally abusive relationship.

my mind is like a thought bubble filled with an enormous amount of squiggles
squiggles that aren’t really squiggles but is actually one long endless line that has loops & twists & has taken up all the space I have in my brain
this line is my thoughts pouring out one after another like middle school kids during lunch except there is no getting to the register to sit and eat. I don’t ever get to the register.
crazy right
am I going crazy?
everything just seems so loud all the time

When you get this, answer one of the questions (or all if you really want!) then pass it on to 5 writer friends! 🥰 If you have more than one WIP, pick at random! We want you to talk about your works, and celebrate with you! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 1. What are you most excited to write with this WIP? 2. How has this WIP changed since the “daydream/brainstorm” stage? 3. Who is your favorite character in this WIP and why?
Question Time! Hooray! I’ll answer this for my new WIP. I couldn’t sleep last night because I’m so hyped.
1. What are you most excited to write with this WIP?
The main character, Aleksander, is already a villain when you meet him. When I first started writing (*redacted* years ago), I was doing a lot of RP, and my second favorite character to write with, the first being Will from my other WIP, was a villain named Nik. I had a lot of fun exploring dark themes and honing my villainous monologue skills. Sander is a character who has been in the works for a long time, and I’m really excited to write his story. It has a lot of interesting twists that will really set it apart from a lot of fairy tale inspired stories, namely the romance.
2. How has this WIP changed from the daydream/brainstorm stage?
I had an idea for a villain-centered romance years ago. I knew who the two main characters would be, and that’s it. Yesterday, I was avoiding my other two WIPs and decided to look up obscure fairy tales. For some reason when I get blocked, I write screwed up versions of fairy tales and things just happen. WWLF came to me after I wrote a version of Frozen where The Ice Queen went crazy and killed everyone. That’s where I discovered my love of horror….
Anyways, I found this weird story called “Hans My Hedgehog” about a husband and wife who pray for a child and are sent a half human/half hedgehog that they name…Hans, My Hedgehog. They are terrified of him and lock him away for 6 years until he breaks out and kills them. The whole story is kinda wild but ends nicely I guess. When I was reading it something just hit me. Sander was originally going to be some sort of animal hybrid as well but ultimately I decided on demons because I had some cool ideas for his design. I wrote an outline of the entire plot in ten minutes, and now I’m on the Hype Train™️ to drafting.
3. Who is your favorite character in this WIP and why?
1000% Queen Sadira. I’ve never written an ancient being before and the idea for her literally came to me as I was writing the WIP Intro. I will be taking some inspiration from one of my absolute favorite fantasy characters ever (Eda, from The Owl House) but the intention is to create this deity of sorts who watches the events of the story play out (events that she started), and is completely helpless to change them. She truly believes that her son can break his curse despite never speaking with him or seeing his actions be anything but despicable. She’s a dying goddess with her entire world on the brink of death, and she still found a way to hope, because Sander can’t fail. He just can’t.

Day 27: Woking
In thinking of things to do that don't involve too much walking, both for my mom and the kids, I thought, "Why not Woking?" It's a train stop about five stops on the line from us and I've been wondering about it for awhile. So, I quick check my phone and there's a museum there- nice! We wait for the train about an hour, since the train we were going to take was cancelled. Once we finally arrive in Woking (pronounced like Woe-keen), we have a quick walk to this hip-looking museum. We were all getting a bit excited. Until we got to the locked door! Man! Not open on Mondays! Just my luck! Again folks, this is my job, to make mistakes, so you don't have to (at least that's what I tell myself). Well, we don't give up that easily. We were up for an adventure, after all. So, we walk a little further and find a gorgeous building. It turns out to be an office of the WWLF (World Wild Life Fund). The kids and adults paired up and went on a scavenger hunt to find out information about animals. What fun! At the end, the kids each got a prize. They were proud. The adults were happy to complete the mission as well. Who would have thought that Woking is a place to shop? They have two malls there! They also had plenty of restaurant choices and a place that made milkshakes that can even compete with those in the US. My dad was sure grateful to get a sweet taste from home.
