Saw a discussion about tzr reblogs earlier today with some people claiming blogs do tzrs to pressure shame their followers into liking their stuff. 💀 Seriously, you can't make this shit up.

So this is me begging you to please tzr your posts! As someone living in Europe, my dashboard is radio silent most of the day and only becomes active when I'm about to go to bed. Due to that I miss a lot of posts from all the talented people I follow. I'm so happy when people tzr their stuff because this helps me to catch up with all the cool stuff I would've otherwise missed! 🤍

Ok I need to word vomit about show Lucy Carlyle as opposed to book Lucy Carlyle. Specifically her wardrobe. Here's a masterpost about the character descriptions in the books, but here's the long and short of it. In the books, Lucy has 3 described outfits:

1. skirt, leggings, padded parka (44) 2. pink and yellow nightie (145) 3. coat, roll-neck sweater, short dark skirt, leggings (169)

Granted, this appears to be just the first book so things may change with her wardrobe later in the series. (Personally I consider her wardrobe in the books to be a symptom of 'adult man writes teenage girl protaganist' syndrome) But in the show there are some notable changes I noticed that I 𝓪𝓭𝓸𝓻𝓮.

Firstly: Her pants. First, pants! She's actually wearing pants to jobs instead of leggings. Considering how much physical activity is required, it never made sense to me that she wore leggings and a skirt to hauntings. The fabric of leggins is too thin so they wouldn't be very warm. Second, a skirt? Lucy is a very practical character, it makes no sense that she would wear something that could get caught on something or grabbed.

But in the show?

Tactical pants.

The fabric is visibly thick and stiff, a lot like paramedic uniforms. (I'm most familiar with those so there might be better examples) Look at the thick waist, good for possibly having multiple belts or just the way the rapier hangs. I don't see any belt loops but that could be for quick belt release just in case. And the double zip-closed pockets are amazing for keeping gear secure and easily accessible, even if Lucy doesn't seem to be using them. She's probably wearing specifically tactical agent pants. God I love her pants so much, I need a pair.

Second: The jacket. In the books a padded parka or her coat are all very practical choices. But I understand costume designers want their main female character in more appealing-looking clothing or multiple outfits in important scenes for marketing purposes. And I LOVE the bomber jacket.

Firstly, it looks like insulated leather and the blue bits are wool. This is perfect because that gives her a fashionable but practical and warm jacket. The jacket being warm is important because of how often there are temperature drops on jobs, so she needs something to keep her warm. The leather makes it more durable so things thrown by visitors have less of a chance of hitting her. Wool is water repellent and leather is waterproof which in my brain means that ectoplasm wouldn't seep into the fibers and would mean it would have a harder time getting to her skin. Normally I don't like a cropped jacket BUT with how her rapier and other gear sits on her body, a cropped jacket makes all her stuff more easily accessible.

A few smaller details but I love how she has a thick, durable leather belt that would actually be good for holding all her gear. I also really like how she's wearing a knit sweater. Again, she needs to be warm on jobs and it was smart to layer underneath so you can still see the amazing jacket.

I love how the costume designers for the show actually took Lucy's personality into account when making her wardrobe. She has a short temper, she's no-nonsense. So they made her the most practically dressed for her job. It's incredible.

A type of character that I'm OBSESSED with is the character who is turned into a symbol for a cause they don't believe in. The character who is cast in a story that they don't care about. The common man turned into a mythic figure, but who doesn't actually participate in the mythology.

I'm talking Jinx Arcane, who is seen as a symbol of the Zaun revolution despite the fact that she never was a freedom fighter. Any violence she committed against Piltover, her breaking the people out of jail, even her joining the fight in the finale - all of it was done for self serving reasons, it was all personal. She was never on the ground putting in the work or participating in mutual aid or even trying for an independent Zaun like Sevika or Ekko or Silco, yet she is painted on the walls and looked up to as a figure, a part to play. Not as her full person. So much so that just Isha imitating Jinx is enough to spark the fire.

Spinner from My Hero Academia is almost a c list character. He's a member of the League of Villains, but not a particularly important one. He is a follower at his core, first of Stain and then of Shigaraki. But for the final war, All For One decides to elevate him to the status of leader. He gives him additional quirks and paints him as a symbol of the heteromorph population who have been constantly oppressed and discriminated against, stirring up tension and recruiting many regular citizens who have no experience fighting to AFOs side in the final war. But at the key moment, the pivitol point that could change the tides of war, it falls apart. Because Spinner was never that figure, just a flimsy icon. He's not fighting for the heteromorph cause, he's not even fighting for AFO. He wasn't a mindless pawn, he *allowed* AFO to do these things to him, but for his own reasons. As he's deteriorating under the strain of the quirks and the pressure of the masses, he says explicitly its because he cares about Shigaraki and nothing else. Because it's personal.

In Black Sails, a story all about narratives and who you pretend to be, John Silver is literally crafted into the mythical pirate king by Flint and Billy. He plays the part of Long John Silver to a certain degree, but he's never more than an actor in a role. And at his core, Silver is a liar, a *very* good one. And so Billy and Flint forget this, they forget the fact that Silver doesn't care about the war and never has. He is a man with no past and no future, no story. A man who not only knows he's in a story, but also is one of the few to escape the constraints of the narrative by surpassing it entirely. By no longer being the character he was cast as, both textually and metatextually. He refuses the narrative, and he even has the power to do the same for Flint at the very end.

And it's not even the fact that they don't care or don't believe in the cause. Because they can and often do, though extremely temporarily. Spinner does express outrage against heteromorph discrimination, and Silver does find himself begrudgingly caring about his crew. Even Jinx can rally to save the city to some degree. But it never *really* matters to them. It's never even close to the main motivator, and a character quite literally lives and dies by their motivations. They're always operating on a different level than the other characters. Not necessarily a better or worse level, but just a purely different one. Or at least a level that the other characters don't understand/continually forget about. Most of the series, Jinx is purely reactionary, not doing things with much forethought or meaning behind it, but acting on emotional impulse. Spinner is a follower who is content with being a follower, who only really cares about his friends, his found family, not the war hes leading. And Silver is perpetually in survival mode, never dedicating himself to cause nor creed bc he doesn't allow the audience to make him into something more than a creature staying alive, regardless of what they might believe.

I dunno, there's something about characters that are made into symbols for causes they don't champion, and the rest of the characters having to deal with the fallout of their misbelief that really gets me going. They're the worms in my brain that keep coming back around

Also think it’s hilarious how ryoga as well as not getting all flustered with ranmas girl side, he is fully beating the shit out of her. But the way he’s protecting Akanes honor AGAIN, cus ryoga thinks she’s something he can “win” from him. Right off the bat he doesn’t treat her how most of the boys in her life. He knows she’s her own person, and wants her to be treated like so.

Gaz the typa guy to get really quiet when he hears something strange. He halts all noise, asks no questions, and simply listens, staying quiet until he hears another. And soaps the guy to ruin the whole thing by going, "Who's there?" Very loudly, insisting that they go check it out (with no weapons whatsoever, might I add).

The result? They end up in a quarrel where soap gets scolded for his unnecessary statement. "Like the killer was gonna say something back," Gaz fusses. In the end, it was only Ghost sneaking into the kitchen for a snack, trying not to disturb the two as he didn't care to speak at the time, but he couldn't deny he found it funny when they bickered.

if you have curly hair then he'll try to convince you to straighten it, he doesn't care if you love your natural hair. if you really love him, then you'll do what he wants, right? it took months and several arguments, before you finally obliged his wishes with a heavy, reluctant heart.

when you meet shoko again after a few months, her heart sank at the sight of you.

the way you moved, the way you spoke, the way you ate, the way you dressed, your interests, and your appearance were different. other than your face, skin color, and height, you look exactly like suguru. you even have his signature hair bun. she spoke to satoru about this and he acted clueless, saying that it was your decision and he contributed nothing to your transformation; only gave you his love and support.

little did satoru know, you were completely aware of his plans. ever since you heard him mumble suguru's name that one night while he was sleeping, you knew he was still in love with him and knew that this was bound to happen. even before your relationship, it was obvious that his feelings for his best friend never left. you just didn't expect for him to go this far. if it were another person, they'd immediately leave, but you can't.

you love him too much to make him experience another heartbreak. (would it really break him when he's not in love with you at all?)

it breaks your heart to know that every time he looks at you with that smile—the one that makes his eyes crinkle—he’s not really looking at you. he’s looking at the man he fell in love with years ago— the man he will always love, even in death.

yeah no actually I am adding more onto this. Because think about Shigaraki, who's SUCH a league of legends nerd that he named his villain squad/found family after it, finally getting to watch s2. I know this man was in the trenches defending Jinx on twitter for years. Shigaraki, who accidentally destroyed his family when he was Tenko, and Jinx, who accidentally killed her closest friends and father figure when she was Powder. Shigaraki, who wanted to be a hero as a kid and took inspiration from Stain's ideology but was instead groomed to become the ultimate villain, and Jinx, who just wanted to be like her sister as a kid and was a symbol of the revolution but in reality just became a loose canon who helped her other father figure hurt her own people. Shigaraki, who finds love and a purpose beyond AFO's violence in the League of Villains, and Jinx, who rediscovers herself and learns that she is still capable of love and creating good things in Isha and Ekko. Compulsive, always itching Shigaraki, and borderline, hallucinating Jinx. Who is only able to stop the cycle of violence by choosing to walk away.

(And don't even get me started on Spinner. Who is both the Vander to Shigaraki's Viktor, and the Viktor to Shigaraki's Jayce. Both the minority idealist turned chemical wardog, and the loyal partner turned science experiment turned symbol turned monster.)

But even more. Imagine Shigaraki, who spends months being experimented on and floating in a vat which gives him unimaginable power, watching Viktor suspended half alive in the arcane goop until it heals him and gives him power beyond the known world. Imagine Shigaraki, who is manipulated by an outside force so powerful it transcends the normal quirk balance and corrupted until he no longer resembles the man he once was but instead a nomu facsimile, watching Viktor be unwillingly brought back from the brink of the death by the arcane and turned into a half diety half monster until he's lost all semblance of his previous self. Imagine Shigaraki, who breaks through AFOs consciousness and is brought back to his childhood state at the insistence that he does have friends and people do like him in the coffin in the sky, watching Viktor being broken out of his spell by Ekko's z-drive and being faced with everything he's done to the city and people he cares about. Imagine Shigaraki, who sees Izuku reach out a hand to him despite everything that he's done just because he wants to help him, watching Jayce grab onto Viktor's hands and refuse to let go because he loves him. Imagine Shigaraki, who's whole life has been dictated as a part of a repeating cycle of two quirks at war but is finally able to break free with the help of someone who recognizes the child in pain and suffering behind the villain's mask, watching Viktor repeat the cycle of violence universe after universe and repeat the mistakes of the past that Heimerdinger warns about in the first episode but ultimately break free because Jayce knows his partner behind the Machine Herald's mask and chooses to do it all again. Just think about it you know
