Letter To An Old Poet
JJ Maybank x fem!reader
Summery: She would have given him the moon, and he only ever realized he wanted it until she couldn’t anymore. Part two to Moon Song
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I think that you’re special.”
He smiled, hands wrapped around the dead lumber he sharpened with his pocket knife, the scraping sound was unavoidably heard swirling around the July fog. The rope creaked each time the wind blew us into a soft sway, and the grass beneath us tickled our bottoms as we hung dangerously close to the soil and it’s roots.
“You think?” He laughed through his teeth, scoffing softly, the breath between his sighs confirming he didn’t really care about my choice of words.
“I know.” I promised him, looking at the way the moon highlighted his waves and the stars casted a glow over his cheeks.
He was focused on his makeshift spear still, carving away like his life depended on it, like it meant something to him.
The rope threatened to snap when I crawled over to him. I didn’t even have the heart to pull his knives and his weapons from his palms, I simply settled between the bends of his arms and laid contently on his chest. I felt the flakes of oak falling on my back, and his arms squeezed me a little tighter as he worked.
“So needy.” He laughed, because he knew it was true. I would lay between him and a flame to feel the comfort of his touch.
I loved him irrevocably, naively, delicately. My whole self was poured into the glass that was him. Yet, he hadn’t been able to fall in love with my overflow. Maybe I didn’t under it yet then, but soon I would.
“I just want you all to myself.” I breathed against his chest, my fingers fiddling with the loose threads on his shirt, one I was already planning on fixing for him. Little acts of service, touch, kindness, and pure love. All languages I spoke only for him.
“You’re so selfish.” He joked.
“Shut up, you dork.” I love you.
“Oh, so now I’m a dork?” I love you.
I nodded my head, smiling and pressing my forearms against his broad chest. I felt his knife settle against the back, closed and not wielding any threats. JJ would never hurt me, not yet, anyway.
I love you.
“Maybe I should just find someone who appreciates me.” He teased. Did he know how hard I loved him?
“Shut up, Maybank!” I laughed into his shoulder. I love you.
“Make me.” He retorted.
So, I shut him up, and I kissed him hard, in the dark, in the hammock.
I love you.
I love you.
I love you.
I loved you.
“How many more times do I have to promise you I don’t want her!” JJ shouted. It seemed like that’s all we ever did anymore. Fought, cried, hugged, and disappeared from each other’s lives.
“You don’t get it.”
“No, I don’t, please, enlighten me, Y/n. Because I’m fucking confused and nobody’s telling me shit!” He pulled at the roots of his hair, dirt kicking up behind him. We walked along a windy road, the one that branched off from the Chateau. I had simply left the last things of his I had left to remind me of what I lost in a box on the porch. But he’s a leech, and he had to have known I would give him back his clothing, because even as selfish as I was with him, it wasn’t mine to keep to myself anymore.
“You think you’re a good person, just because you won’t punch me in the stomach.”
Silence fell over us, my eyes looking up into his, and his mouth hung open like a fish out of water, an idiot trying to make himself sound like a poet. But he never had a way with his words, that was always my dealing of cards.
“And still, I loved you. I don’t know why, I just do.” I spoke softly, sniffling as I used all of my willpower to not cry in front of the man I swore would never see me weak again. Not after he made a fool of me in front of everyone I cared about. The same people I would never get the privilege of meeting again, because our friends were just his at the end of the day.
“Good, then love me. Let yourself love me, because I love you. I love you more than anything else and I can’t…I can’t lose that!” He pleaded, grasping at my limbs like threads that clung to the sleeves of his shirts.
“No, no. JJ, I can’t. You’re not someone who gets to be special in my life anymore. Not then, and not now. Maybe I believed you deserved it then, maybe I believed it when I watched you kissing her, and maybe I believed it when you promised me she meant nothing, but I can’t believe it now.”
“Why not!” He begged for an answer.
“Because you’re not special, you’re evil.” I spoke softly. “You don’t have to hit a girl to hurt her. And you’ve hurt me more than you could ever have known.”
He could have watched me fall down the stairs, and he wouldn’t have shown remorse, so I wasn’t shocked at the stone faced boy that stood in front of me, confused, conflicted, maybe.
“I still think you’re special. No, I know you are.”
I nodded as he spoke. I wasn’t sure what he wanted me to say. The girl he loved would have laid on a wire for him, but the woman I was now would tell him to find another way. She wouldn’t sacrifice herself for a boy who couldn’t love her the way she deserved, and she was coming to terms with understanding that, that was okay. Because the truth was, he had treated me like his equal, and so I became that, but I’m better than him, and he should know that by now.
“You don’t even know me.” I cried, pulling myself together as soon as I broke. I sucked up my tears in a wet mess, my knuckles shaking, dripping with the tears they tried to stop.
“Of course I do, I know you. I love you.”
I shook my head, backing away, even as he followed in my footsteps.
“You hesitated, JJ. You hesitated when I asked if you loved her. When you love someone, you don’t even have to think about saying no to a question like that. If you knew me, if you knew what I would have done for you, for us, you would have known I would have never done that to you.” I spoke bitterly, closing my eyes to stop the tears, I hiccuped between breaths.
“She’s my best friend.” JJ spoke like his reason was obvious.
“And you were mine.”
Silence. Cold, hard, silence. It’s what hits when both people realize they’ve come to a silent ending in their conversation. We didn’t have to keep arguing for us, because there was no more us, and the silence was just the fact of that settling in.
I’m ready to finally walk into a room without looking for JJ. My eyes wander over every corner looking for the boy whose arm I hung off of for so many years. The boy who ripped my youth from me, and the boy I will always be thankful for because now I know that only dogs appreciate the gifts I brought for him.
I want to be happy, with or without him. And soon, I know it will happen for me. I am too good to waste my energy on someone who couldn’t love half as hard as I did.
Maybe he couldn’t have. But maybe he just realized it too late for us.
But I’m ready to love without him, and I’m ready to be happy.
I can’t feel it yet, but I am waiting.

In Defense of Aphrodite! - A Devotional Work!
Hello all, this is a thing I wrote a while back, but now that I have a blog, I figured I would share it! I get so annoyed by people giving Aphrodite flak and dishonoring her by the words they say. While I understand that most of these individuals are not pagans, or even Hellenist for that matter, I still think it is disrespectful. For those of you who are not Hellenist out there or worshipers of Aphrodite, please understand that she is a goddess, and that there are people who do honor and respect her. So, if you are a non-pagan and you put yourself in the shoes of an Aphrodite worshiper for a moment, you would see why we are annoyed, and quite frankly why we are angry about the recent trends spreading about our goddess on TikTok.
In Defense of Aphrodite:
What this post will cover:
What she is not!
How she shows love!
How she shows beauty!
She extends herself far beyond just love and beauty!
She is a mother figure!
She is not a monster!
What she is not!
People, pagans included seem to shun Aphrodite. They mock her and belittle her. They assume that because in myth she is portrayed as jealous, sadistic, and uptight, that it must be relative to her true nature. However, this is not, and never was the case. Aphrodite is not a monster; she doesn't "curse women who are compared to her in beauty". She definitely doesn't "take away your beauty if you ignore her". She is totally not the "whore" that modern media has reduced her to. She most certainly is not an advocate for the lesser-known toxic femininity that people often cast her with, otherwise known as a diva. She is SO much more than what people see!
How she shows love!
If you would just get to know her, and begin to be one within her bliss, she will show you her truly loving, caring, compassionate, patient, and unconditional nature. This is when you begin to love her as she loves you. When you get to know Aphrodite you see that there is more to life than just slugging through pay-check after pay-check, that there is more to life than what the media will advertise to you, that life itself is beautiful. Life is her gift to us, and thus we should cherish this gift. She animates our soul, and fills us with wonder, and amazement to explore the world, and to explore life with curiosity. Life is such a special and sacred thing. She cried for Adonis when he perished, but this is not just her sadness for the death of her mortal lover, this is the sadness that she feels when each and every one of us dies! That is how much she truly loves us! She cherishes every waking second she gets with us before it's our time to go. She is love incarnate!
How she shows beauty!
Aphrodite can teach us one major thing about beauty, that is, that it is subjective. Beauty is, and always has been in the eye of the beholder. Beauty is not the caked-up face that society has forced upon most women, true beauty comes naturally. You are already SO beautiful and you don't even know it. Beauty is not reserved for celebrities, or models. Beauty is not the stereotypical body standard that plagues society these days. Beauty is for all! Men, and women alike can rejoice, and appreciate the beauty in themselves, and in our world! There is beauty in us, in the rustling of the trees on a windy day, within the hearts of the ducks swimming gracefully upon the pond, within the eyes of any living creature. Aphrodite is beauty incarnate! If you just look for her, she is everywhere!
She extends herself far beyond just love and beauty!
Aphrodite is the goddess of all love and beauty, but she is SO much more than that. She is also the goddess of pleasure, passion, romance, and desire - none of which are inherently sexual in nature but can very well be sexual in nature if one wishes. she is the goddess of the self; self-love, self-care, self-adoration, self-confidence, even self-discipline - the list goes on. She is the goddess of the heart and is a heart healer. You can vent your sorrows to her, and she will listen, and she will guide you to healing. She will speak to you, be it in your subconscious, or in your heart itself, she will heal your sorrows and your pain.
She is a mother figure!
Aphrodite is a mother too, and if you are one who has a not-so-great mortal mother, Aphrodite will take you into her arms, and openly accept you as her own child - though you are not her blood born child, and most certainly are not a demi-god - she will still take you as her own, especially those who lacked the parental love they needed in childhood. She loves her children very much and will do anything in her power to protect them. If Eros is anything to look at in myth, she doesn't let him get away with Psyche so easily, and I feel that as a mother, she was just trying to better understand Psyche before letting Eros pursue her fully. She wouldn't want anyone to hurt Eros. She gives this same loving motherly protection to all her children. She loves us so very much!
She is not a monster!
As we can see, Aphrodite is not a monster, she is not the vile goddess myth portrays her as. She is lovely in nature to say the very least about her character. She loves all, and wants us to realize that beauty is subjective, and that everyone holds their own beauty inside and out. I pray that Aphrodite blesses and protects each and every person who reads this! <3

An update on the Transformers CyberWorld situation.
Without a shadow of a doubt, it’s the next cartoon as a new copyright notice on Hasbro’s part includes animated series.
So we’re moving on from EarthSpark. A well intentioned successor to Rescue Bots aimed older that … just didn’t stick the landing for many reasons (no Nightshade being Enby isn’t one of them, but among certain groups it didn’t exactly help either…).
So what can we expect going forward.
Honestly I think we’re in the middle of a shift, creatively.
Cyberverse & EarthSpark clung to a lot of IDW centric ideas about how the Autobots are shady & the Decepticons are the actual heroes.
Skybound and TFONE are to be returning to traditional Heroic Autobots and Evil Decepticons. Starscream & Shockwave are absolutely psychotic, Soundwave is more professional in an ends justify the means capacity, and Skybound Optimus being praised for a much needed return to the strong enough to be gentle vs the introverted millenial/Gen Z kid most stuff lately has cast him in. And just by official trailers and snippets alone, ONE’s fixed a huge problem with the cast system thing started by Aligned, by making future Autobots into the oppressed miners and from what we can tell, the future Decepticons being among those who either benefited from the system or joined Starscream’s splinter faction, a faction that likely has no benefits to Cybertron as a whole.
It does feel like there’s a bit of course correcting to go with a more traditional route most casuals expect. Even a recent toyetic promo for ONE where the actors play with the toys with some football players, among them is the one who calls himself Megatron, & the players express mild skepticism on an origin story, when they all know Optimus & Megatron are mortal enemies so why bother having them be friends previously or some such. I can always appreciate when a studio expresses self awareness and happily pokes fun at itself.
It also feels like they’ve realized they’ve both overexposed certain characters and also realized certain characters don’t work.
I think RotB and Skybound’s willingness to kill off Bumblebee shows even Hasbro might be sick of him now. His absence so far in early CyberWorld leaks seem to point in this direction too. A recent promotion and opening animation with Squad Busters doesn’t have Bee, but instead uses Elita. It also keeps Megatron and the Decepticons as the villains.
I don’t think Bee is going away, since he’s a major component of TFONE, Reactivate (whenever that sucker comes out), and that separate racing (?) game thing, but outside of EarthSpark, it does feels like they’re trying to move away from him a little. Cyberverse also sticks out as it’s pretty clear the writers wanted nothing to do with Bee after S1, but Hasbro marketing and rebranding made Bumblebee a huge focus, confusing matters, as despite the rebranding, Bee’s role had greatly diminished. (Like realistically, it should’ve been Bumblebee leading the Autobots during the Quint occupation, not Hot Rod if Hasbro was that insistent about it.)
Elita is also an interesting change. For years, Hasbro seemed content to ignore her (and her squad) in favor of Arcee, with Hasbro & IDW trying to beef up female presence with “OCs” Windblade & Pyra Magna among others to little fanfare. Indeed, Windy appears to be benched in favor of Elita-One who has gotten more attention post Netflix WFC (that god awful show did one thing right and it was bring back a Female Autobot people actually like to complement Arcee).
I stand by the series still has a villain problem, and EarthSpark didn’t help by trying to make the Decepticons sympathetic moody Autobots, but also not properly taking advantage of Mandroid, Croft and (so far) the Quintessons. This has been an issue for the bulk of IDW, Cyberverse, & RotB as well, by either omitting Megatron, trying to redeem Megatron into a good guy and/or his replacements not being up to snuff/killed off too quickly. Scourge & Mandroid were steps in the right direction but alas. The Quintessons are also a step in the right direction but Hasbro seems semi hesitant to do much with them, despite their increased presence. (I’m leaning towards it being most toys related to them don’t sell, which is what will make a future Void Rivals toy line interesting…)
So now we’re at CyberWorld.
The lack of Bee in favor of Mirage due to his popularity from RotB seems telling among the Autobots, though we don’t have Elita so far in this series curiously.
All we have to go on Decepticon wise is Galvatron, Scorponok, and Sky-Byte, but that’s still a pretty big change up.
While they still have relevance in TFONE, Screamer & The Waves’ roles in EarthSpark are mostly minor, with Starscream as the standout (in a bad fan fic kind of way). Skybound mostly has ignored Megatron, slowly building up to him in stuff like Cobra Commander, with Starscream getting the crap beaten out of him, and as of the recent issue, Shockwave’s fate isn’t looking too good, leaving Soundwave. It does feel like Hasbro is willing to experiment more outside of Screamer & The Waves, given their absence this far in CyberWorld. Galvatron is also a surprise, given the “Let’s make Megatron an Antihero!” phase started in IDW, that carried over to stuff like Prime Wars, WFC, CV & ES.
I feel like using Galvatron is an attempt to both move away from Megatron for a bit, but to also still technically use him (as a villain) as usually Galvatron IS Megatron. Scorponok, at least in comics and the Headmasters anime, is typically a main villain, but how that works here we don’t know yet. He’s either G1 Marvel Scorponok or BW Scorponok, there’s very little inbetween.
So I think what we have is a big change that is going back to basics like Skybound did, but is willing to still experiment with other characters to add variety. Plus let’s be honest, having multiple Megatron toys from three different things with little visual difference is a sign of stagnation. Shaking it up with Galvatron is an improvement post TFONE.

I really adore reading your different opinions and discussions about the Twist Cast, world, theories, and so on. Which is also why i wanted to ask you: If you could rate the 7 Dorms (+ Ramshackle dorm) based on environment, characters, interior design, etc. how would you rate them from a scale from 1 to 10...?
I'm curious to know. :)))
Tumblr media
Well and this is probably the scientist in me speaking 💦 those are a lot of different factors to consider in one score, and not all of them are equally weighed. Each dorm is very different; we don’t even get the same number of characters for each; the higher number of characters in Heartslabyul, for example, could either bring down or bring up the whole score). It wouldn’t be a clean or a fair game.
Instead of giving “overall” numerical scores, I’m just going to break them up into multiple categories, each list arranged from “favorite” to “least favorite.
By Environment:
Octavinelle — I’ve always wondered what it’s like under the sea… It’d be so tranquil just through Octavinelle’s big glass walls and watching the sea creatures drift by. So therapeutic! (And free, too 😂)
Heartslabyul/Pomefiore — Both feature gardens! I can get lost in them, smelling the roses along the way. Pomefiore is more traditionally pretty (ballrooms, grand decorations, etc), whereas Heartslabyul focuses on whimsy and wonder (more clutter, windy halls, etc). I appreciate both aesthetically!
Ramshackle — Nothing that standout, but also nothing too bad about it. Might be depressing to look out of a window and immediately spot a dead tree and a graveyard though. Also keep in mind that Ramshackle is located the farthest from the main buildings on campus, but I don’t mind this because walking a while helps me properly wake up. The isolation is also nice for an introvert like me.
Diasomnia — Everything looks dark and dead. Constantly worried about being poked by thorns.
Ignihyde — Does outside even exist to these nerds?/j Same issue as Diasomnia but worse somehow; too gloomy and dead looking. Looks creepier because of the tech glowing/casting some light in the darkness.
Scarabia + Savanaclaw — IT’S TOO HOT I’LL DIE OF HEAT STROKE
By Characters:
*Note: takes both individual characters + group dynamics into account*
Octavinelle — The most cohesive as a group, but each Octa boy also stands on their own as a strong and interesting character in my eyes. Helps that J word also belongs here 💕 Watching their schemes unfold is always a treat.
Scarabia — Jamil and Kalim are a comedic yet complicated combination; seeing them puts a smile on my face whether it’s because Jamil is suffering or because Kalim is being oblivious. Usually both.
Savanaclaw — The only one I’m meh on is Jack 😭 Best part of Savanaclaw is definitely when Leona steps up and everyone else backs up his leadership.
Ignihyde — Love Ortho, don’t love Idia (except for those few moments when he’s relatable), so it evens out. Appreciate how much Ortho cares for his brother and encourages him to try new things! Big fan of their wholesome brotherly dynamic, it’s basically one of the few times I can stand Idia.
Pomefiore — Of the group, I only like Rook. I don’t really care for their group dynamic.
Heartslabyul — No particularly strong feelings about anyone here. They’re alright.
Diasomnia — The only character I like of this group is Sebek, and even then the love is somewhat conditional (because as soon as he starts harassing people about Malleus, that love plummets). Silver and Lilia are okayish, but I dislike Malleus so that brings this dorm way down. I think Diasomnia is strongest from the found family angle.
Ramshackle — … What characters? (Yuu doesn’t count; they’re purposefully written as a blank slate and I would rather read about an already established character than an intentionally bland one. The ghosts also don’t count because there’s nothing to distinguish their personalities from one another; they don’t event get names 😭) Grim is a little meowmeow on his own…though I do really love the ghosts being Yuu and Grim’s found family.
By Interior Design:
Octavinelle/Pomefiore — Classic and fancy ✨
Heartslabyul — I’m a sucker for the Alice in Wonderland aesthetic.
Scarabia — Looks huge and fun to explore; probably full of interesting things to gawk at because of the wealth that has been poured into the dorm.
Ramshackle — Cozy, nothing offensive about it.
Diasomnia — Feels like I walked into a haunted castle. Doesn’t look very welcoming or inviting. Might get jumpscared at the next corner.
Ignihyde — Too inorganic and stiff because of all the tech and blue screens floating around. I’d probably get a migraine from just being in Ignihyde.
Savanaclaw — Outdoorsy energy. Would constantly be concerned about sun burn and bug bites (because of how “open” the dorm’s design is). Rope bridges would make me feel nauseous. Just overall not a fun time.
*Bonus* — By Uniform(s):
Noble Bell College :>
Octavinelle — Simple but effective. Also just love me a crisp suit 😩 and cummerbunds (since they accentuate the waist)…
Pomefiore — The colors as flowy fabric are so pretty together… It’s also interesting how they incorporated a kimono-like design into a very European styled/inspired dorm. It works surprisingly well! Adore the intricate fabrics in their sleeves; the complex apple pattern on the red, the sheer black material, etc.
Diasomnia — I have no clue how this uniform works (like, putting it on), but I will agree that it looks cool and intimidating. The hats are slightly silly, but they work well with the whole look.
Scarabia — Looks easy to move in! Love the gold accessories as well. I don’t like the garish flame pattern on their hotpants or the sandals.
Heartslabyul — Why are you wearing sneakers and plain white T-shirts. I thought the dorm uniform was supposed to be formal wear 😭
Ignihyde — Weirdly blocky and geometrical. Nothing that eye-catching to look at.
Savanaclaw — The biker-cowboy aesthetic is just NOT it, sis…
RSA
Ramshackle — … What dorm uniform? Grim’s striped bow? Cuz I’ll agree that it’s cute, but we have nothing else to go off of since Ramshackle isn’t formally recognized as a dorm.

Okay I'm in the mood to ask a dumb question. Out of the cast in Semi Aquatic Circus (specifically the circus crew) from willing to go out to not interested at all, who is willing go out on a date? If you want to describe their perfect date as well.
I think the only one not interested Yoyo, I don't think he's worried about any of that stuff whether thats at the moment or indefinitely.
Most of the circus has a crush on Capella and if not its for one another!
Capella would probably love any date, being as she's been wanting to experience a "proper one" for a while.
I can see Savannah enjoying going for a simple walk and then getting something to eat.
Pogo would like to hang out by the beach/ocean, keep things very lighthearted and always crack jokes!
Clyde would ideally want to have a date in his hometown, where he could show his partner around on a little tour and proudly introduce them to all the townsfolk
I think Esmond is also someone down for anything, though he does have an appreciation of live performances (hence why he's been part of 2 already!)
Darwin probably likes something quiet. When people are with him they often feel the need to "fill up the empty space" with talking, but really he doesn't mind the lack of noise.
Vis would like having someone read a book to them--though they might doze off a bit during it, in a nice way.
Nana would LOVE to go kite-flying...but the thing about that is you have to wait for the perfect windy day to do it!
Bonus!: Furnando would love going to an expensive restaurant with you and then pretend to propose to you to potentially get a discount or even a free meal/dessert out of it

I see you're into PJO. If you had to assign yourself and your mutuals a Greek/Roman God/Goddess, who would it be and why?
(Mutuals, don’t feel left out if I… leave you out. This is just who I happened to get ideas for.)
Myself: My instinct is to answer Hephaestus, because he’s really cool and I love steampunk, or Hecate, because magic is awesome, or even Apollo, because I’m both an artist and a singer. But I think I’d be a/be a demigod of a wind god. For starters, my moods often shift quickly and dramatically enough, but I love the wind itself, and will always say so aloud whenever it’s windy. Wind fills me with life, the way touching water energizes Percy. Plus, I really really want to be able to fly, Jason-style. (I had a very vivid dream as a kid that I did fly once, and I believed it for years. Perfect backstory.)
@lexiconic-light: I associate you with Hestia, ‘cause you’ve got that same kind, welcoming personality. If we’re talking demigods though, Hestia doesn’t have kids, so maybe you’d be a plant nymph or a child of Demeter, because you have a lot of plants and take care of them very well. Or maybe a child of Calliope, because of your writing and love of stories.
@many-gay-magpies: Either somebody artsy, or somebody nature-ey. One of the Muses, Demeter, a nymph, a satyr, etc. Though I also get Hecate vibes from you, so maybe her. You’re mysterious and magic-y. And you like birds. And draw/paint really freaking well. Something along those lines. I feel like I’m missing some obvious connection.
@disneyautistic: Maybe it’s just because you were really into Pirates of the Caribbean the last time we saw each other, but I diagnose you with Posideon. You’d decorate everything with shells and bits of sea glass, and paint ocean creatures on your walls, and wear a sea captain’s coat everywhere. Plus, I think you’d enjoy shapeshifting powers, if you could have them (I know it’s rare for Poseidon demigods, but you never know).
@linklog: Based purely on vibes, I assign you Hermes. No solid evidence for that, I just think you have a good personality for a trickster. Or maybe you’d embody the theatrical side of Apollo or Dionysus. Is there a Greek god of fashion and cosplay? Because I’ve always admired the creativity of your outfits.
@whosectype: Both Hecate and something nature-ey, no question. Maybe a satyr that is also a student of Hecate, learning magic like Hazel was? You’d cast dark spells involving bird bones and fungi and lots and lots of teeth, to increase the growth of moss or make something rot faster. You’d draw your spell-circles-on-the-floor™ in fresh mud. You’d enjoy being a little unnerving to the other satyrs, who prefer frolicking in sunlit fields to lurking in the shadowed areas of the forest and watching trees get overtaken by parasitic bugs.
@cupid-shortcake: Between your username and your pastel pink aesthetic, assigning you Cupid or Aphrodite seems like such an easy answer that it can’t possibly be right. I think it actually works though. On one hand, you show a lot of love and kindness to your friends, lifting them up and making them feel supported and appreciated. But you’ve also got that evil streak where you’ll make an endless series of terrible things happen to your characters because it makes a better story (as most writers do). If you applied that evil streak to real people’s lives and relationships, then you’d make an excellent Greek goddess of love.
(Actually, I think assigning the whole @cupheadocscasino crew gods from the Greek pantheon would make a REALLY COOL AU. I just don’t have ideas for all fifteen, and the characters themselves would probably be different gods than their creators would, so even the three here aren’t set in stone.)

May 1889 // Farmer Sebastian Sallow x Reader (part 1)
Tumblr media
The prologue.
Warnings: parent death
Word count: 800
Masterlist here
Tumblr media
Life is emotionally abusive…
When their widowed mother dragged her and her younger siblings from the only home she had ever known, she was angry. Kicking and screaming, she fought the decision all the way to the United Kingdom.  Their mother brought the remainder of their broken family to the Scottish highlands, where she’d grown up to move in with the kids' dying grandmother. Having spent her childhood rarely visiting the small hamlet of Feldcroft, it hardly felt like home, but instead a strange land in which she was dragged a handful of times.
The rugged countryside with its cold winters and windy coastline were a far cry from the ever stretching fields of lavender on the Mediterranean she had grown up with. The way the sun cast the lovely bronze on her skin, despite its more fair nature - thanks to her mother’s northern roots unfortunately - always made her feel alive. Moving to a place that hardly experienced a summer at all, instead of the many months of warmth, only further added to the cold and isolating feelings she bore at the loss of her father.
Her father, the ever charming and playful man, had met her mother while visiting London for work. The two, having made such a profound connection in only a matter of days, lead to him whisking her away from the UK to marry and live with him in the south of France. Their whirlwind romance had always been an epic tale of love, devotion and laughter, told over the dinner table and as a bedtime story.
His passing had been so sudden. The man unfortunately had been killed for his research on magical plants, by a traveling rogue wizard. Later apprehended in Wales, the British ministry reached out to offer condolences. Pairing that with a pain existing in a place without her love, it made sense to her why her mother had left France, despite how much it hurt her and her siblings.
As they finally arrived via the floo flame in Feldcroft on a late May evening, they were greeted by the sight of their very old, sickly looking grandmother. Their grandfather passed away a few years back, and they’d revived the owl. Their mother left for the funeral alone, before she returned to take care of them.
Standing in the brisk May air with her siblings, and a simple suitcase housing all her possessions she tried not to grimace. Rickety looking houses, ruins of a castle nearby, cows just simply walking around unattended. The place looked… interesting.
As her Scottish grandmother made her way down the line reuniting with her younger siblings and mother before making the way in front of her. Reaching out, sensing the panic and fear rolling off her in waves, her grandmother simply offered a small hand, allowing her to take it instead of forcing affections on to her. A fact she appreciated.
Allowing her grandmother to cup her palm in her old hands, she leaned up to kiss the old woman on the cheek in greeting, before continuing to scan the area. At the house next door she could see broken fences as well as a man grumbling around trying to force sheep back inside. Distracted, she stared until her grandmother broke her out of a trance.
“That’s Solomon Sallow, former auror. He’s an… interesting man I admit. Has a set of twins in his care a few years older than you, but they are off to Hogwarts this time of year. Their parents died a few years ago, poor things. Anyways, come along dear, you’ll have the loft entirely to yourself” her grandmother said with a small smile and a comforting squeeze before dropping her hand. She tore her eyes away from the gentleman having successfully used his wand to repair the broken fence around his sheep.
“Did you say former auror?” Her mother, Evelyn, asked her Gran, as the old woman nodded.
“Yes. He’s a bit grumpy, but it’s nice to know someone who can put dark magic in its place is nearby” Gran said, hoping to ease the tension.
“Well… that’s comforting to know. Did you hear that y/n? She said that he takes care of twins not much older than you. Perhaps you could make a friend or two” her mother offered and she shrugged, wanting to curl up in bed and sleep. The fatigue of missing her father daily still weighed heavily and after traveling she just wanted to rest.
In hindsight, she wished she had paid more attention to the conversation between her mother and grandmother as they ushered the family inside, as it told all about the boy next door…

The Perfect Fly Rod for Panfish
Hands down, the most frequent question I am asked is what is the ideal rod for chasing panfish. Before I answer that question, we need to consider our quarry. Panfish is a term that covers a broad range of fish, including members of the sunfish family, including crappie, rock bass, and warmouth, as well non-sunfish like white and yellow perch, white bass, yellow bass, Rio Grande Cichlids, and several other smaller freshwater fish. While these fish may be on the small side, they are hard fighters that live in a wide range of habitats and eat a wide variety of flies, from tiny midges to big air-resistant poppers and foam or hair bugs.
The perfect panfish fly rod must perform well on a small farm pond or sprawling reservoirs, as well as tiny creeks and big rivers. It should be able to delicately cast a tiny dry fly, as well as handle a sizeable hard-bodied popper. I should be able to handle streamers and nymphs fished on floating and sinking fly lines. That's a tall order for any fly rod, but the ideal panfish rod must be light enough to allow you to appreciate the fight of these diminutive fish.
While I love the fight of scrappy bluegill on an ultralight two or three-weight fly rod, these rods are often too light to handle some of the larger, less aerodynamic flies I enjoy fishing. Casting double fly rigs, something I do quite often, on these light rods can be difficult, especially in windy conditions. As a result, I have settled on four-weight fly rods as my daily driver, although I still fish lighter rods when conditions are right for it.
A fly rod around seven and a half feet in length is ideal for me. It is long enough to make long casts on open water but compact enough to use on small streams or areas with a lot of overhead cover. While the current trend is to make rods stiffer and faster, I prefer slower, softer rods as they fit my casting style. I also like how mid or full-flex rods allow you to appreciate the fight of these smaller fish. A good bluegill will bend this type of rod down to the cork!
Fiberglass, especially modern S-glass rods, fit this bill perfectly. The only downside to these rods has been their ability to cast some of the larger flies I fish or deal with very windy conditions. I have often wished some of my favorite glass rods had a little more backbone in the butt section to deal with wind, big flies and the occasional big bass grabs a fly intended for panfish,
Building The Perfect Panfish Fly Rod
This past January, while attending the Fly Fishing Show as a featured fly tier in Marlborough, Massachusetts, I struck up a conversation with Jordan Ross, the owner of JP Ross Fly Rods. I was introduced to Jordon by good friend and fellow fly tier Fritz Miller, who owned a few JP Ross fly rods. He knew Jordon had a soft spot for panfish and thought we should meet.
During a slow spell at the show, I wandered over to the JP Ross booth to check out some of their fly rods. While speaking with Jordon, it became clear that we had similar tastes in fly rods. I cast a few of his rods and frankly loved them all, but they were similar to other glass rods I already owned. When I mentioned my desire to have a modern, lightweight, s-glass rod that could handle big flies (as well the occasional bass), cast in windy conditions yet still allow me to appreciate the fight of a smaller fish, his eyes lit up. He had a project he was working on that might solve my problems. He developed a fiberglass fly rod called the Toad. What set this rod apart from other glass four and five-weight glass rods on the market today was the fact that this rod was built with a stiffer butt section but retained a traditional feel in the top three sections. Jordon modified the butt section of this rod to make it more stiff and stronger for applications that need a little more backbone in the butt. While doing so, he kept the ferrule design the same; that means the TOAD butt section is interchangeable with their normal S-Glass fly rods.
Jordon handed me a 7 1/2 foot four weight with a Toad butt section, and I headed back to the casting pond. On my first cast, I could immediately feel the difference. That stiffer butt section allowed me to put as much power as I wanted into the cast, and the fly rod responded perfectly, laying out long, accurate casts as well as handling a short line with ease. I was sold.
We discussed collaborating on a rod project during the show, and I agreed without hesitation. Jordon brought in the incredibly talented artist Jeff Kimball to make the rod something special. Jeff Kimball's artwork appears on several of JP Ross's fly rods, and I was very excited to see what he could come up with regarding a panfish-themed rod. The results are breathtakingly beautiful.
In a few months, I had a JP Ross Panfish On The Fly edition fly rod in my hands. While I wanted to start spreading the word about this collaboration immediately, I wanted to put the rod through its paces first to ensure it performed as well as I thought it would. I have tested the fly rod in various fishing situations this past year and I am thoroughly pleased with the results.
Of course, my main objective was to use the rod for panfish. I used the rod at the start of the season, casting delicate midge patterns to early-season panfish. As the season progressed, the rod passed its second test delivering streamers and multiple wet fly rigs to pre-spawn sunfish and crappies. This past summer, the rod flawlessly handled bulky foam bugs, hair bugs, and popper/dropper rigs. Throughout the season, I fished in various conditions ranging from blustery late winter days to windless, sultry summer evenings. The rod cast flies of all sizes and still allowed me to appreciate the fight of smaller fish. As is usually the case, several larger predators were encountered, including a largemouth bass that topped the scales over five pounds. The stiffer butt section on this fly rod allowed me to handle this big fish with confidence.
In addition to my panfishing endeavors, I brought the rod along with me on several trips around the country. I used it to fish for smallmouth bass and landlocked salmon in Maine. While I typically would not use a four-weight in these situations, I wanted to put the new rod to the test, and it performed wonderfully. The fly rod also traveled with me to the mountain west where it felt at home on the small backcountry streams where I fished. I even put it through what I would call a torture test by fishing it on the Madison River, where it successfully landed several rainbow and brown trout over twenty inches. If you have ever fished a big river like the Madison, you know how strong these big trout can be.
After an entire fishing season, the rod has lost that "new" look. The fine cork grip has been darkened with the slime of hundreds of fish, but the artwork on the reel seat and blank still shines as bright as the first time I took the rod out of the tube. I have caught many species of sunfish, crappie, rock bass, large and smallmouth bass, rainbow, brook, and brown trout, landlocked salmon, and even arctic grayling on this rod over the last few months. It has cast everything from delicate spinners to big poppers, and I am happy to say that the rod has exceeded my expectations. I am ready to share it with the world!
If you are interested in a rod for yourself…
The purchaser can customize JP Ross fly rods in several ways. If the artwork I selected does not resonate with you, let Jordan know, and he can discuss other options with you. In addition to the standard reel seat artwork, you can add custom artwork to the blank, the butt cap of the reel seat, and the rod tube. This customization also applies to the grip. If you do not like the tapered half-wells cork grip I selected, you can customize the grip to your liking.
I want to be brutally honest here. Do you need a custom-built fly rod to enjoy fly fishing for panfish? Absolutely not! The motto of JP Ross Fly Rods is "Simply Fish," and that certainly applies here. I often tell folks to fish the rods that you already own. Don't sweat if it is a little too light or a bit too heavy. Just get out, enjoy the great outdoors, and fish. However, if you have been searching for the perfect panfish fly rod, I have one for you to consider. Check out the JP Ross "Panfish on the Fly" edition TOAD 7'6" 4 weight four pc fly rod. If you decide to pick one up, you will not be disappointed!
The rods are available now and can be ordered directly through JP Ross Fly Rods. If you decide to purchase a Panfish On The Fly edition JP Ross Fly Rod, you will support both JP Ross and Panfish On The Fly, as a portion of these sales will go to Panfish On The Fly. Click the button below for more information or purchase a rod.
If you have any questions about this build, don't hesitate to contact me (the button below will take you to my email). I am happy to share my impressions and answer any questions. You can also reach out to Jordan at JP Ross Fly Rods. He can fill you in on the design aspects of the fly rod and discuss any customizations you may be interested in. In addition, Jordan can set you up with a complete outfit, including a rod, reel, and line if desired.
If you decide to pick up a JP Ross Panfish On The Fly edition, please share your thoughts with me! I would love to hear from you.

What Your Favorite Be Nimble Be Quick Song Says About You
Jack- Don't tell me you don't have at least wild five theories about this album. You probably read "Eleven" by Sandra Cisneros in school and never really got over it. Sometimes you read a book just so you can say that you saw the plot twist coming
Card Shark- This is such low-hanging fruit but you carry around a pack of cards in your backpack/tote bag/whatever. You're a fire sign. You tend to know that something is a bad idea and then go ahead and do it anyways
The Summer King- You're excellent at coming off as a chill, well-adjusted person, but still don't suffer fools gladly. You were a Percy Jackson kid. You like taking long walks past dark
The Marriage of Bigfoot and Mothman- You have a love/hate relationship with parties. You actually like exercising. Your love language is words of affirmation
Persephone- You're an utterly hopeless romantic. You have strong opinions on Madeline Miller. You are an appreciator of the fine art of lying on the floor in a dark room
(A Quiet Night)/(Far Away)- First of all, you picked this as your fav song specifically to be unexpected. Anyways, you definitely focus on seeing the beauty in small things and do something like gratitude journaling
The Dancing Plague- You enjoy DIYing your clothes. You really like Fomula 666 by Sarah & the Safe Word. You prefer tea to coffee but tbh neither of them makes having to wake up that much better
The Wind in the Orchard- It's yearning hours 24/7 as far as you're concerned. You like the cottagecore aesthetic but end up just wearing hoodies. Autumn is your favorite season
Thomas the Rhymer- You've played a tiefling bard in DnD and insisted on rolling to try and seduce the dragon (which did not end well). Your self image changes incredibly day by day. You stay up way too late
The Faerie Queen- You have a really interesting and vibrant cast of OCs that live in your head. There is no way you are normal about "I traded lies for truth and seven years of aching, quiet bliss." You hate confrontation
Truth Be Told- You give out really really good advice that people don't tend to listen to. You lay awake at night thinking of better ways you could've done things. If you had to choose, you'd pick Andersen's fairy tales over Grimm's
37.7694961, -122.5130832– You really like windy days even though they mess up your hair. You have a lot of patience. You know really interesting fun facts that you don't get to talk about nearly enough
(this is just for fun obvs so please feel free to fight me about it)

Laura's IG story
I love how excited Laura gets over our little show and the love she shares for the cast and crew. I'm sure that a large part of their devotion and care is because of her and Seamus' leadership.
And frankly, if Walker: Independence isn't renewed, it won't be due to any budgetary issues. Just imagine the amount of money saved by shooting a film in 6 1/2 days! And those are shorter days than most other tv sets.

These prompts are really fun to think about, so I ended up writing some more with Dah’ni!
1. An encounter with a dragon
A brisk wind drifted through the air, messing up the tidy fur that Dah’ni had so carefully brushed through that morning. Hissing with annoyance, they unsheathed their claws and combed through the ruffs of fur on their cheeks.
“Agh, and I had just fixed up my hair, too…” From behind the khajiit, the nord Lydia sighed from the sight of her disheveled brunette hair that clung to her steel armor.
Another khajiit, Kharjo, slowed his pace with the other two in order to be just behind Lydia. “Perhaps it would be best to put it in a braid, yes?” Taking off steel plated gauntlets and placing them perched underneath his arm, his grey furred hands combed through Lydia’s hair, pulling it out into three equal pieces before tossing them together into a braid.
“Thank you.” Lydia glanced back at the taller cat with a grateful look painting her eyes. “I’m afraid that autumn in Skyrim is always windy.”
Dah’ni couldn’t help but let out a smile seeing the two of them get along. At this point, Kharjo had only been with the team for a week, and was still getting acclimated to the ways of the dovahkiin and their housecarl. However, it seemed as though he was starting to warm up, which Dah’ni appreciated. A hot feeling surfaced, blooming in their stomach and moving to their face, as if by a comforting fire. Behind their dense coat of pale fur, Dah’ni could feel heat flushing their cheeks.
Shaking away the sudden feeling, the khajiit perked their ears forward, listening for anything that may lay ahead as the trio travelled down a mountain path in the Rift. The air was still, and no birds sand their songs as they passed orange-leaved trees. It was oddly quiet, which made Dah’ni wonder.
A shadow zipped overhead, casting the amber grasses in brief darkness before letting the sun shine on them once more. Their fur stood on end, bristling their tail to twice its size as Dah’ni looked up at the sky. For one destined to slay dragons, the sight of one always struck fear into the dragonborn’s heart.
Kharjo brought out his sword, and Lydia her battle axe. Dah’ni readied their war axe as well as soon as the dragon landed just in front of the party. Dust bellowed outward from the impact of the lizard’s weight, catching in Dah’ni’s eyes. They blinked, but held their ground, ready to take on the foe.
Strangely, the dragon did not attack. Now that Dah’ni could get a decent look at it, the dovah was actually much smaller than the others they have fought, only about half the size. It’s smooth scales were small and tightly packed, shining a brilliantly deep purple, with amethyst eyes to match. It had no horns, instead it was equipped with fins like a blood dragon, letting Dah’ni know what type it was.
It let out a voice, expectantly higher pitched than an average dragon. “Which one of you is dovahkiin?” It asked.
Dah’ni tensed, keeping their firm stance, they tightened their grip on their weapon. “This one!” They growled. How odd it was that the dragon could not sense its own kind within the khajiit. They felt their dragon blood course through their veins, their heart beating rapidly.
The dragon raised its neck, standing tall. “I am Briilokven!” It roared, baring fearsome rows of teeth, sharp like daggers. “I have come to you! Yes, this fire that burns within Briilokven… she shall see if you are truly worthy of taking the name of dovah!”
Dah’ni gulped down their fear. “Very well, then! Khajiit will dance on your bones once I have felled you!”
Briilokven rumbled a low growl. “Arrogant pest… this defeat will not mean death, whoever will take it.” She turned to Kharjo and Lydia. “Stand back!”
The two looked at each other before sheathing their weapons, understanding that this battle will be fought by dov, with no kill to decide the match. It was surprising to see a dragon show mercy over others. Who was this Briilokven, to be so unlike a dovah in nature?
Stifling back a sigh of relief, Dah’ni stood firm. “Then I will show you my power!”
Their dragon soul danced to life as Dah’ni concentrated their breath. “Yol!” A thundering cry erupted from their lips, followed by a wall of flames that charged towards the dragon.
Briilokven cringed as the fire hit, radiating against her scales as they glimmered like stars against the heat. “You truly do have the voice…” She reared her head back. “But can you stand against mine?!” She shouted, letting her own flames burst forth.
The fire engulfed Dah’ni, and it was hotter than that from any other dragons they had encountered. Scorching their fur that turned from a pale grey to a charred black, Dah’ni quickly held up their left hand, summoning a ward to block the flames. Once the rocket of embers ceased to lick at their body, the khajiit strengthened their ward, waving it against Lydia and Kharjo as it planted in front of them as a wall, now having exhausted their magicka supply. “Enjoying the show, yes?”
“Can this one really face a dragon alone?” Kharjo yelled out, placing his hand on his blade’s hilt, ready to draw it.
Dah’ni laughed, bellowing out hot smoke. “It is not every day a dragon challenges this one to a battle that does not result in death!”
Briilokven growled. “Enough of your squabbling!” She unfurled her wings, beating them down and taking to the skies. A roar pierced the heavens, cracking the air as she let gravity take her down. Her wings tucked into a dive, Briilokven spewed hot fire as she passed by the group overhead. It hit Dah’ni before they had the chance to regain some magicka to put up another ward, and baked their leather armor. The dragon spun around, and as she charged towards Dah’ni, the khajiit let out another shout.
“Fo Krah!” An icy wind sliced through the sky, striking the winged foe with intensity.
“Gah!” Briilokven tumbled to the ground, crashing into the dirt that now formed a crater from the impact. Chunks of ice littered the ground. She turned around to face her opponent, baring her teeth.
Before the dragon had time to react, Dah’ni had already charged ahead. They sliced their war axe against her purple muzzle, blood erupting from the gash and glossing the dirt below. The khajiit struck again, grabbing at giant bared teeth as they sank their blade in Briilokven’s jaw.
Briilokven hissed a snake-like sound, shaking her head sharply. Dah’ni dislodged themself from the dragon, collapsing into the earth. Giant fangs found their way to Dah’ni’s arm, clamping down and staining their fur red. The dovahkiin let out an anguished cry as blood welled from their wounds.
“Let us help you!” Lydia readied her weapon as the ward dissipated, ready to charge at the adversary.
With their free arm, Dah’ni felt that they had enough magicka for their spell. Their digits twitched, and a ball of flame bellowed from their hand and swallowed their entire body. The dragon unlatched her teeth and flinched back, giving Dah’ni a chance to stand.
“A flame cloak!” Kharjo’s eyes glistened against the light before turning to Lydia. “They are intent on keeping us out of it, no?”
The nord tensed her shoulders, readied weapon clasped in both hands. “What a fool!” Lydia shouted, and Kharjo knew she wanted Dah’ni to hear as well.
Briilokven staggered back, her footprints leaving deep divots in the ground. She exhaled a breath, smoke trailing in the wind. “You have strength, ronit,” She huffed through labored breaths, “I will part now, having had a taste of your thu’um.” She curled her lips, baring her blood soaked teeth. “But make no mistake, this is not the last you have seen of me.” Before anyone could respond, the beastly foe spread her wings and climbed into the sky. “Wuld Nah Kest!” The shout let her tear through the air with incredible speed, and the deep purple shape was nothing more than a black dot on the horizon.
Fatigue hitting them like a war hammer, Dah’ni fell to their knees as their fire smoldered into nothingness. It took most of their energy to get some rattled breaths in and out. Their fur was scorched black, and their arm was red with gushing blood. In fact, Dah’ni was sure that the dragon’s teeth hit bone, the wounds searing in pain like fire. The pain was so great that the dragonborn had not even noticed Lydia and Kharjo rush to either side of them until they spoke.
“You prideful idiot,” Lydia scolded with worry etching her voice, “What made you think you could take on a dragon alone?” She wrapped her arms around Dah’ni’s back, and the khajiit ungracefully fell limply into her touch.
Kharjo took out a large, red bottle. “Khajiit has to agree.” He uncorked the bottle, forcing Dah’ni’s mouth open and letting the red liquid cascade onto their tongue. “We are a team, yes? Let us help you when you are in trouble.”
The sweet nectar of the potion set to work, giving Dah’ni enough energy to pull themself up. Their bleeding started to slow down, and their charred fur began to heal. “It only wished to test my strength,” They said, “I wanted to oblige! A sparring match between dovah and dovahkiin… how could this one pass up the chance?” They strained as they stood up, Lydia supporting their weight.
The nord lass peered into the sky, turning a milky orange as the sun began to slide towards the horizon. A wind blew, rustling the autumn leaves to sing their melodies. Lydia placed a firm grip on their khajiit thane. “I doubt that’s the last we’ll see of that dragon,” She concluded, “But right now, we need to find somewhere for you to rest.”
Kharjo hummed. “Ivarstead is down the road,” He noted, “Let us stay there for the time being.”
Dah’ni hissed under their breath. They wanted to explore, not rest in an inn! However, they let Lydia and Kharjo help them along the cobbled road, limping their way to the small town. Though exhaustion gripped them tightly, the dragonborn wanted nothing more than to face Briilokven again.

question for fic writers: 7, 10, 12, 13, 14, 17, 19 and 21 (with rebuilding, your vrains fic), 30, 37, 39, 41, 42, 46
7. Any worldbuilding you’re particularly proud of?
Answered this already, but to have another one, Awakening of Dragons. Always want to write more about the other kingdoms in this world, I have IDEAS
10. How do you decide what to write?
I don't. Brain demon decides to go feral and I have no control over it
12. Are there any tropes you used to dislike but have grown on you?
Not sure, I don't think so.
13. Are there any tropes you used to like but don’t anymore?
Again, can't think of any
14. Are there any tropes you would only read if written by a trusted friend or writer?
Oh many. Smut fics especially.
17. What highly specific AU do you want to read or write even though you might be the only person to appreciate it?
I mean. Vamp! AUs in general. I also want to throw the Kamen Rider Blade cast at the Durarara cast. Also somehow crossing over Zero One and YGO Vrains should be fun.
19. If you wrote a spin-off of [insert fic], what would it involve?
21. If you wrote a “missing scene” in [insert fic], what would it be?
Of "rebuilding"? Hm.... Probably would lean into what would happen when Lightning comes back. Probably Jin would insert himself into the narrative as well, because I'm me, and Jin and Lightning are Jin and Lightning. Generally more Ryoken and Windy shenanigans.
30. Have you ever written something that was out of your comfort zone? If so, what was it, and how did it affect your approach to writing fic thereafter?
Fics with smutty parts tend to do that to me. Didn't change my approach much, I still struggle, I need to be in a specific headspace to be able to do them.
37. Promote one of your own “deep cut” fics (an underrated one, or one that never got as much traction as you think it deserves!). What do you like about it?
I'm gonna try to not talk anything about Etsusa Bridge, because as much as I love all the work I put into it (alongside Jamie, it's mostly the two of us building this verse), I am aware the reason they don't get traction is, that nobody else is active in that fandom.
weight of memories is one. It's a Pacific Rim AU for Kamen Rider Build. Generally I'm proud of all the PR AUs I had written for Rider, please check them out
39. Is any aspect of your writing process inspired by other writers or people? If so, who?
Narita Ryohgo I think helped me a lot with writing action scenes. I used to be terrified of writing them, but Narita's blunt way of writing them did help me a lot in how to do them
41. Link a fic that made you think, “Wow, I want to write like that.”
I'm horrid, my mind is blanking. @insertimaginativenamehere will you bite me if I send Banditry? Lmao
42. Have you ever received a comment that particularly stood out to you for whatever reason?
Oh many times. On good way, bad way. Clarification: the ones who stood out to me in bad way were typically extremely rude. Like that one person, where I lamented on a GX ship being rare to the point I was the first one writing it on AO3, I got a comment basically going "well my ship is more rare". That was a mess
Liveblog comments always make me cry on the other hand
46. Do you prefer writing on your phone or on a computer (or something else)? Do you think where you write affects the way you write?
Mostly computer, sometimes in notebook first. I had written on phone before and it definitely makes me slower
Thank you!

Event Horizon (1997)
Many years late to the party lol
I remember when this film came out (I was only 8) that it was the horror movie of the year, and the years following it was hailed as one of the scariest to see until Blair Witch. Which is weird because it didn’t even make back its budget. It became a cult classic and is still considered a worth watching.
Spoilers ahead...just in case.
Movie is a great horror film, and made me realize there’s relatively few space horror films, and I’d say all that I can think of involve aliens. In this instance, its a ship that went through a black hole and came back Wrong. The ship pulled a Doom and came back a Cenobite lmao
The aesthetic of the ship is absolutely bonkers neat, though I think the movie is too short to really take it in and appreciate it. Much of it doesn’t make sense (the green ducts) but it just Looks Cool and with most ships in media this days being more sleek and smooth, the grimy and weird and not immediately recognizable is sadly lacking. It’s years in the future, it should look functional but different. Compare how phones are now to those 20-40yrs ago. Tech changes dramatically.
Quite a big name cast and most get a decent amount of time on screen. However some of their characters are a little weak and again it comes down to time I think. Miller’s (Fishborne) is good, captain who doesn’t want more of his crew to die after a previous accident. Weir’s (Neill) trauma of his wife’s suicide.
Peters is where things start to fall off, is she guilty for leaving her son behind for this mission or something to do with why he’s in a wheelchair? D.J. has some trauma too but its unclear where it comes from. Was he a combat medic? Hard to read. Also his aggressiveness towards Smith is weird and never explored either. The rest of the characters’ fears and hurts aren’t elaborated upon, even Justin who was first affected. He just sees Hell and loses it.
Some inconsistencies and questions left largely unanswered, like why did Justin implode but Miller and Starck just got windy hair? Is the bloody water that bursts the tank real or another figment, or a figment become reality? What happened to the bodies of the previous crew? Some are spread along the walls and we see the one frozen body (presumably Kilpack) but the rest are gone. Weir’s decent is also interesting, does the ship know he built it and thus is most suited to be its ambassador(?). His trauma is just as arguably rough as Miller’s. Weir also starts having nightmares before he even gets on board the ship which has some interesting implications that he is tied to the ship far more deeply.
I suppose you can chalk a few of those up to interpretation and drawing one’s own conclusions.
Good space horror. Need more in media that isn’t just aliens, though aliens are always fun.
