Richarlyson: [Leads him straight to Fit]
Pac:
[ Full Transcript ↓ ]
[Richarlyson throws Pac some roses, which Pac picks up]
Pac: A flower? A rose bush.
Richarlyson: Follow me.
Pac: "Follow me"? Ok.
[Richarlyson leads him to the other side of the Favela, where Fit is. Pac gets embarrassed and hits his desk as he realizes Richarlyson set him up.]
Fit: Oi! Oi!
Pac: [Sounding nervous] Oi, Fit. Oi Fit, hi, how- how are you doing, Fit? How you doing?
Fit: [Hesitantly] I'm- I'm good. How are you?
Pac: Oh yeah, I- I'm fine, oh so, uh... [Laughs]
Fit: Are you o-
Pac: I brought you these! I brought you this! I brought you this for you.
Fit: [Startled laugh] Oh, roses?
Pac: Yeah, yeah I just got them from the Favela, you know? We were cleaning up the things, I was showing Richarlyson around, right? And I got this! Yeah.
[Richarlyson bounces in the background happily as they speak]
Fit: Oh, wow. Pac, thank you. This is- this is really thoughtful.
Pac: Yeah, no, yeah yeah yeah!
Fit: No, this- I-
Pac: I'm glad you like it.
Fit: I know the perfect spot for these actually, yeah. I'm gonna-
Pac: Really?
Fit: I'm gonna put these on my rooftop garden, yeah. They're gonna look great.
Pac: Oh, that's awesome! Yeah, I'm gonna build a garden too, 'cuz like, every time I see Tallulah, he- she always give me some roses, and I'm collecting them as well. Yeah, it's-
Fit: Oh nice.
Pac: It's a good- good gift, right?
Fit: No, I- I- I- this is awesome, thank you Pac. I appreciate it.
[Richarlyson nods vigorously]

No matter how many times it happens, I'm always shocked by how reliably all my problems with any given story are solved by making it shorter. If I go into a story with the idea that it'll be long, that I should use as much detail as I want to craft a full-length and fully-fleshed-out story instead of a short one, it always turns into this rambling, meandering, soulless thing that's no fun to read, and I get tangled up in so many flimsy, sprawling layers of character and worldbuilding that the plot becomes unworkable.
The minute I tell myself, "Let's make this as short as possible," the problems fall away, I find the heart of the story again, the pacing is brisk, scenes get multiple purposes, the world feels deeper because I'm implying things that spark the reader's imagination rather than trying to put every threadbare, boring detail on the page. Every time. You'd think I'd have learned by now.
#adventures in writing#yes this is about the arateph rapunzel retelling#the drafts of that one are *so* bad#thin and rambling with no plot progression#but then writing that rubber duck outline made everything fall into place#for instance: the drafts included subplots about zemma struggling with wanting to connect with her family while also doing her work#there were entire scenes just to introduce her mother#her family was going to get a whole subplot#camreth had a family full of brothers he mourned#and then writing the rubber duck explanation i realized that *none of that mattered* to the story i wanted to tell#cut away her family and i don't have to worry about how they could be harmed by her decision to marry a fugitive#and i can focus on her relationship with camreth rather than this tangled web that includes her mentor and her family#cut away his siblings and auren becomes much more important and it's relevant to his arc rather than an easter-egg add-on#i had struggled with the double point of view when i was given full rein#putting in lots of filler scenes because i feel like i need to give a full picture of both their lives#the 'keep it short!' mindset makes the two povs easy#just pick the scenes that are directly relevant to the plot then choose which pov is best for it#it's absolutely astounding but also horrifying because i've had this story for years#and this has worked with other stories before#i should have figured this out long before now

just imagine like. you're seventeen and desperate and angry and hurting for the truth. you're largely underground and unheard of and you have no power other than slapping on a mask and telling the truth over and over again, hoping that someone will hear. and you will NEVER, not in a MILLION YEARS, guess who DID hear! because the next day superman—not THE superman, it's his really cute son who you met literally a few days ago when he saved you from being shot, and you still have his fake hair—shows up in metropolis lugging a boat full of refugees that you thought would die out in the ocean because no country would dare go looking for them. and he burns the handcuffs off of them, and demands that they be treated with kindness and compassion, and doesn't seem to give a damn about how many international laws he just fucked up. like, wow.
and then you go to talk to him and tell him who you are and oh my god you're FLIRTING with superman. over his fake hair. and when you call him to protect a protest he comes right away, and he stands at the front, eyes blazing, and tells the police to ARREST HIM TOO? so THEN you go to bail him out and meet his dad (actual superman, but whatever) who invites you to dinner. and you get to meet LOIS FUCKING LANE. YOUR HERO. you then embarrass yourself in front of lois lane. the house explodes. superman ( jon, not clark) flies off to confront the guy who almost killed his entire family, and who also happens to be the evil president that overtook your country. superman comes back different. you watch through dimly-lit screens as he runs himself ragged all over the earth trying to save people. burning out like a dying star. he's got the weight of the world on his shoulders, you think. so you have him brought back to your dark apartment, a space just for you and now him, but not "him" as in "superman", it's "him" as in "jon kent"—because you're the one person he never has to worry about, and you want him to know that. he doesn't have to be superman with you. he can just be jon, and jon is beautiful and bright and everything you dreamed of.
"you've got the world," you say. "i've got you."
and hoLY SHIT YOU'RE KISSING HIM. YOU'RE KISSING JON KENT. AND HE LOOKS REALLY, REALLY HAPPY ABOUT IT. HOLY SHIT. you know, at this moment, that you trust this boy with your life. you're going to take on president bendix together and you're going to save your people. and so you make a whole plan that even ROBIN gets involved in (and holy shit you meet robin!! robin almost DECKED you!! and seems to like you? and approves of your relationship with jon?) and set sail for home. jon carries you into the sky. he doesn't want to drop you; you can see it on his face. it's cute. superman is used to catching people, after all, so you smile and let yourself fall. you'll see him on the other side. you believe in him. you have hope, for once in your life. you know he's right by your side. you know he'll be there when you call.
you love him.
and suddenly the battle is over, it's done with, bendix is gone and your people are free and you get to introduce jon to your mother! it's the best day of your life. but when you look around, you see that everyone is watching you. the whole world is, probably. they'll know who you are. they'll know who jay nakamura is.
you don't care. the truth doesn't have to hide anymore. and what is the truth, after all this time? what does jay nakamura have to tell the world?
jon takes your hand. you kiss him, and the truth is that you never want to stop.
#YEYEYHAHAHASHHA#THIS SERIES GAVE ME SO MANY FEELINGS#like it's no wonder jay fell so fast oh my god#thinking about things from jay's pov is both really fucking funny and really emotional#i wanted to include stuff about the accused murder and the ring and the suit but i couldn't figure out how to work it in#and i am soooo tired by now holy shit#jay nakamura i LOVE you#soke#superman: son of kal el#jonjay#jayjon#jay nakamura#jon kent#dcu#dc#sou says stuff

So I couldn't help but browse the THG tag bc those books own my whole heart. I actually check it now and again, and it's been interesting see how opinions have changed over the years, especially in regards to Gale and Peeta. Going through the evolution of them as just potential love interests to being far more complex than I could have expected has been a wild ride. Crazy how this reads different than from when I was a preteen.
That said, I wanted to give my unsolicited two cents on my boys, because though I have been enjoying the discussion on Peeta and Gale and what they mean to the story, I also feel like reducing them to Peeta = peace and Gale = war is far too simplistic... and oftentimes unfair to one or both of them.
See, I don't think Peeta and Gale are peace and war/destruction. They're compassion and indignation.
Peeta worries about the other tributes, or their families, or how to repay people like Rue and Thresh for what they did.
Gale is indignation at how the Capitol treats its citizens, it's anger at the injustice of inequality and brutality.
Both are needed in a story like THG. You can't have people like even Peeta not say something like "maybe we're wrong about keeping things quiet in the districts", you can't have him not drop the baby bomb, you can't start a revolution without Gale's indignation at the status quo. At deserving a better life but being denied it, at having your kids be mercilessly killed for literal sport.
However, if you start a rebellion and loose sight of your compassion, you end up no better than the people you're fighting against. Gale wasn't a bad person, imo. His heart was in the right place. He was flawed, yes, but so is everyone in this series. Gale, most importantly, lost sight of the line between fighting for the people he cared about and fighting against the people who hurt him.
Reducing Gale's indignation to just revenge and hatred ignores so much of what he stands for. Who hasn't seen laws passed that dehumanize people, who hasn't been angry and furious when someone is elected who fundamentally hates everything you are, who doesn't think some people need to pay for the atrocities they committed? There's a little bit of Gale in every single one of us - and it's important that it's there, because that's what gives us strength to challenge the status quo and make life better for the future generations.
But. You can't let it take over. You can't loose sight of your compassion or your empathy.
That's where Peeta comes in. Peeta is the voice in your head that worries about how many good lives will be lost when they give themselves up for this cause. Peeta is the worry about the people caught in the crossfire. Peeta is rebuilding when it's over and believing that the next generation will have a better life than your own. Peeta is being kind, even to people who may not deserve it.
And Gale... Gale looses sight of his compassion, and he doesn't realize it until it smacks him in the face when the bombs go off and Prim is gone and he's too far gone. Meanwhile, Peeta advocates for the end of the war even though it means the status quo remains - and regardless of what he believes himself, I don't think Suzanne chose him to say those lines by chance. It means both mindsets have their flaws: too kind and things that shouldn't remain will never be challenged and changed, too angry and you may loose sight of what you're fighting for.
And that's just how Suzanne uses her characters, both of them, all of them. Just look at who is with Katniss depending on the situation:
- Katniss chooses to "rebel" after Gale is brutally whipped. She kisses him.
- Katniss realizes that in order for D12 to rebel, everyone would need to be in on it, and she realizes most of them are not like her, that they're scared and she understands, emphasises with them. Peeta walks by her side.
- Katniss finally does it though, shoots the arrow at the force field, and Peeta is taken from her, it's now Gale by her side.
(You can't start a rebellion without indignation, and sometimes you HAVE to do it or things will never change, regardless of the inevitable pain that will come along.)
- Katniss is righteously angry at the Capitol bombing a hospital full of innocents to make a point. Gale remains there.
- Coin twists people's compassion into an army to fight for her own personal gain. Peeta is hijacked and looses his sense of self.
- Katniss and Gale go to District 2 and even though she tries to be like Peeta, she's still shot- reinforcing Gale's views, the person who was with her during that sequence.
- Katniss is angry at Snow, Katniss goes to the Capitol to kill him. Gale is there.
- Katniss gets in way over her head and realizes she is responsible for the death of most of her squad. She shares the lamb stew with Peeta, and later cleans his wounds.
- Finnick dies and she's at her lowest up until that point and all she wants to do is give up and give in to the anger. She kisses Peeta and begs him to stay with her.
... Claiming that Gale is destruction ignores the fact that he's with Katniss through her own moments of strength. Her desire to change things, to fight back, is as important as her compassion. Mockingjay just brutally shows you what war does to your indignation, to your compassion. How easy it is to cross a line between righteous anger and revenge, or how your sense of empathy and compassion can be manipulated into something monstrous by others, or by all the terrible, brutal, painful things you see.
How easy it is to loose yourself- and that goes for both of them.
Peeta and Gale aren't static characters, they go from representations of sentiments regarding an injust government to what happens to those feelings when an extreme situation such as war breaks out. All of that, by the way, while dealing with this duality themselves, because they are still characters who think and feel and struggle and have flaws of their own- and while I love what they stand for, I've seen too many comments that pin everything into what they mean, that they forget that Peeta and Gale are still people, they aren't perfect metaphors. They're human.
Ultimately, Katniss doesn't really choose peace. She wants peace, yes. But what she chooses is compassion. empathy. hope. There's a time and place for anger at injustice. There's a time when fighting back is the right thing to do. There are even times when you wanna give in to your despair and lash out. But if you want peace, then you have to choose Peeta, because Peeta represents what you need to focus on to achieve that peace. You have to let go of the anger or you won't ever rest. So Gale leaves, and does not come back... And yet, Katniss still has her moments of indignation, of making a stand, even as he goes - she still casts her vote at that meeting, she still shoots Coin. Katniss does not abandon that part of who she is. It's just not her main drive anymore.
So then she goes on to make the choice, every single day, to be compassionate to others. To have hope. To rebuild. Of course she chooses Peeta.
... Idk, man. These boys are so much more than what I see them so often reduced to. They're in all of us. There will be times to stand and fight, and times to show mercy and be kind. We just need to find that balance, as Katniss eventually did.
#the hunger games#thg#katniss everdeen#peeta mellark#gale hawthorne#it took me over a decade but I finally bit the bullet and decided to talk about this series#I love it so much#there's so much more I could say I had to hold myself back#like how BOTH Gale and Peeta are never fully gone even tho most people only focus on Peeta#But Gale knew what he did was wrong#It's not as clear bc he's not a pov character and katniss is too tired to try and read him but#prim's death touched him#he didn't brush it off he didnt see it as justified bc at least now its over#regardless of his reasons he still has enough sense of self to realize this#unlike y'know. characters like coriolanus who makes up so many excuses for what he did#including indirectly killing the character who is the personification of innocence and hope#like prim was#(side note I dont think any of the tbosas characters are direct parallels to the thg ones)#(theres little bits of katniss peeta AND gale in characters like snow)#(bc they're all representative of indignation and anger / compassion / fear and the need to feel safe)#(which every human being in the world has - even that bastard)#(he just chooses a different path)#(tbosas is very good btw)#(y'all should read it before the movie makes it about romance like I'm terrified it will)#ps if anyone knows how to put a read more on mobile can you let me know thx ily

[Tuvok & Janeway: Control, Distance, Duty & Connection.] Sources: St Voyager Transcripts / Mitski 'First Love Late Spring' / Disco Elysium
#web weaving#star trek web weaving#st voyager#Kathryn Janeway#Tuvok#be the change you want to see in the world - make a long post about Tuvok & Janeway's similarities <- angel on my shoulder#I feel like a lot of people see them as 'opposites attract' sort of friends where Janeway is unhinged & Tuvok reigns her in#but in reality I think that while there is that element in there (exacerbated HEAVILY by their delta quad circumstances)#what I see most in their relationship is how they both value loyalty and duty above all and are extremely rigid with themselves#and the people around them. How they both have to maintain distance from others bc of their positions as captain & vulcan#I hate when people dismiss Tuvok as not being remotely interested in Maryana or Noss - it erases an interesting struggle that he and Janewa#both share - their desire to stay loyal to their spouses vs the 70 years of loneliness that that loyalty demands of them#But they BOTH triumph and they BOTH remain loyal (Tuvok until he returns to T'Pel and Janeway until Mark informs her that it's over)#and for both of them it's a little bit insane for them to do that.#Isn't it more interesting that Janeway and Tuvok both have feelings for people other than their spouses but don't give in#to that temptation?#They're both people who live very fastidiously by codes. Either written codes or moral codes - they very rarely if ever do things because#it's what THEY want to do. I'd say they're the least emotion-driven members of the crew and yes I'm including Seven because Seven#has a very...how to describe? It's a blunt and insular selfishness. She does what SHE wants to do and doesn't really care about others.#To me that's emotion-driven. Or...personal desire-driven? Not a bad thing at all but very different from Janeway & Tuvok who#are always more 'this is logical' or 'this is for the crew' rarely do they think 'this is what I want' bc they can't afford to#for different reasons (captain & vulcan)#they both also are in the most 'caretaking' positions on the ship from my POV. Security and Captain - both are directly in charge of#ship and crew safety.#Janeway & Tuvok#star trek voyager#st voy#when I say caretaking I'm NOT saying they're everyone's mom and dad or whatever - I'm saying they're in positions where they always#have to think about the greater good and the crew as a whole and how much danger is acceptable etc etc.#Janeway is always killing herself for the crew but Tuvok is right there beside her

(Inspired by @chaoticdelinqueerwithglitter drabble about Bonten and Senju's possible impact in it. Check her blog if you want to see more about the Akashi siblings)
In the Bonten timeline, Senju was shot dead with three bullets, during the Three Deities Fight. In one she was attacked by desesperate Rokuhara members who couldn't handle their defeat, in another the bullets were aimed at Takemichi and so she shielded him with her own body, sacrificing her life.
Either way, the fact remains that, in any universe where Bonten exists, Senju Kawaragi is dead in it.
In the first version, it was her long-lost brother Haruchiyo who rushes to her side as soon as she falls, ignoring the fight and Mikey and everything else around him. He's the one that holds her on her final moments, who cries as she apologies to him and says that she never stopped loving him. He screams, rages, sobs, but he doesn't let go of Senju's body one second. When Takeomi cries in front of him, murmuring how it's his fault and how it should've been him, Haruchiyo feels a murderous rage boil in his heart and replies "You're right".
In the second version, it's Takemichi who holds Senju when she dies. She speaks of the promise she made to protect him and how she fulfilled it to the end. She bleeds out in his arms and Takemichi feels how the world becomes darker after she leaves. She's already dead when Haruchiyo reaches her, shoving the other boy away to hold her. Her skin is growing cold and her eyes are closed and Haruchiyo knows that he's going to be stuck in this moment for the rest of his life. He calls for her, shakes her, desesperately wanting to see some reaction, something that indicates there's still hope. Nothing happens. Everything else happens the same, except now Haruchiyo's eternal resentment its focused on two people and not just one.
South is killed, beaten to death by Mikey, who refuses to look at Senju's body. Haruchiyo hunts all Rokuhara members one by one, ensuring the ones that killed Senju have a very slow and painful demise. Brahman is disbanded and those who aren't too traumatized by their former leader's death join Kanto Manji's lines, and eventually Bonten. Benkei and Wakasa leave the world of gangs for good, unable to look past Senju's memory now.
In Bonten, Sanzu doesn't hide his hatred for Takeomi. He never forgave him for how he treated him in his youth, but now he has a much bigger reason to resent him. They don't talk, and when they do, it's all insults and threats. Takeomi avoids Sanzu like the plague, not because he's scared, but because looking at him feels like looking at a ghost. The same pink hair, the same long eyelashes, even the same eye color. It's all too much for Takeomi.
With Sanzu it depends. Sometimes he can't even look at his reflection, the too familiar features always sending him into a spiral of grief and mad pain. Sometimes he can stare into a mirror for hours, because painful as it is, at least he can pretend the one looking back at him it's someone else. How twisted that all that remains of her it's in his own face.
Takeomi can't bring himself to sell their childhood house, even if no one lives there anymore. Being there became too painful after Senju's death so of course he moved, but losing this house will also mean losing all the memories that remain in there. Senju's former room it's the only one untouched since she left. Everything else has been fixed for other uses, like stocking supplies for Bonten, but everyone knows that particular room with sakura flowers painted in the door must be ignored. Sanzu once caught one of their newest additions trying to get a look inside and ripped his eyes off, before shooting him dead. All of it after he dragged the poor fool out of the house first, of course.
Sanzu can't stand the sounds of gunshots anymore, unless it's him who's shooting the bullets. He also hates the rain and can't even set a foot in the streets when it happens. He visits Senju's grave when he can, preferably on a sunny day, and talks to her about his day. He makes sure his visits don't overlap with Takeomi, but if they accidentally do, it's the only time the two brothers coexist in silence.
Senju's ghost never leaves them. Sanzu can only hope that, whatever awaits for him in death, he at least gets to see her once again.
#i tried to include takeomi in this because he's senju's brother as much as haru#but i ended up making it all about sanzu's pov anyway#they're both grieving but in different ways#read somewhere that bonten was born in izana and senju's memory (because she dies in one of the timeline remember it)#and i can't stop thinking about it#sanzu knows he's going to hell when he dies#but he still hopes to see her one last time#even if they won't be in the same place#ops angst with the akashi siblings again#sorry i refuse to believe that sanzu would be okay with her death#tokyo revengers#bonten#sanzu haruchiyo#akashi takeomi#akashi haruchiyo#akashi senju#senju kawaragi#tokyo revengers headcanons#sano manjiro#akashi siblings

Forever: Wow so, the vanilla eh, don't have the- the Eggs with a glock?
Phil: Yeah they don't have Eggs with glocks, yeah.
Forever: Yeah yeah yeah, that should be a- a nice addition.
Phil: You know, I was thinking that, and I might pitch it, I might pitch it to Mojang. Hey Chayanne you can get out with this. There you go.
Forever: What do you think about, like a baby zombie with a glock?
Phil: [Sighing heavily into his microphone] I would hate that. I would hate that so much.
Forever: [laughs]
Phil: YOU KNOW I WOULD. You know I would! Stop mocking me! [laughs]
Forever: I don't know what you're talking about! What's your problem with baby zombies? They're so fun and cute.
[Phil cracks up and Forever cackles]
Phil: Chat, that was literally the equivalent of, "Haha you're so funny and sexy, haha."
#Philza#Forever#QSMP#Phil#Idk the duo name#Forever absolutely does know why Phil hates baby zombies FYI he's just being a bastard here lmao#This stream actually made me love Forever#like he was funny before but he was really sweet to the Eggs#I hopped on his stream to watch his POV because I was suspicious and curious#but he genuinely wants to help the other Eggs and he was worried about Tallulah losing a life because she wasn't getting taken care of#(because she wasn't waking up)#He also smiled a lot when Chayanne threatened him with death if he hurt his family#in like a ''awh. what a good kid'' sort of way#so yes I like Forever now#but good luck buddy you are not gonna win the battle for Phil's heart LMFAO#I wanted to include both their POVs but it feels so weird seeing Forever's face#Man looks NOTHING like his character#Idk what I expected him to look like tbh but I did a double take when I first saw him#sugarduo#edited

Ruikasa hater because every time sm1 writes tsukasa & ignores saki’s existence to make rui more important to him im like (extremely loud incorrect buzzer) u have already failed to understand tsukasa tenma.
#also the importance of emu + nene for them both#but I think it’s borderline impossible to divorce tsukasa’s character from saki#given that like. his relationship to saki is foundational to his personality/world view lmao#also I want u to look at like every ruikasa moment in canon because for like 70% of them#it’s rui saying some gay shit and tsukasa going 👍🏻 ok im gonna talk abt saki now#even in pandemonium…#rui: let’s go walk along the river tomorrow :) tsukasa: saki would like that#but tsukasa without saki would just not even be the same character. look at me. do u understand.#there’s a reason literally every au I’ve ever made has to include saki to some capacity…#soul eater au & CPDB/space opera aus are rui pov and u will still be learning abt what saki is up to#bc tsukasa does not shut the fuck up abt his sister ever#begging u guys to be as insane abt platonic relationships as I am it’s fun#mine#tsukasa

Fuuta x Kotoko?
Waah I hope the fact that this ran a little long makes up for the lateness -- I really love the idea and was so excited to get the request!! They'd be so interesting and affect each other so much...... it makes me crazy...... It becomes canon divergent at the end because I genuinely think being in each others' company more would influence them both
Kotoko was nothing if not observant. Over the years, she’d found herself in – and gotten herself out of – enough situations to get a good read on the people she interacted with. No matter what this world threw her way, she could always rely on those abilities. And from the moment she met Milgram’s third prisoner, those abilities told her he was nothing but trouble.
“Oi,” he’d called across the dining table during the first meal they all had shared. “What did you do to get here?”
From the moment she woke up in this strange place, Kotoko had kept to herself. It’s dangerous to charge forward and introduce oneself to a group of mysterious murderers when there are no locks on the doors. She hadn’t spoken a word to anyone, the others smart enough to heed her intense look and stay away.
Fuuta, on the other hand, was the first to speak directly to her. He stared impatiently.
“Well?”
She noted his directness. His volume. The brashness and vulgarity she’d heard earlier in the day. His motivations and values he’d let slip in his early defenses. His anger and his fear. The suspicion in his gaze, as well as the need for reassurance in his voice. In that moment, the information clicked together in her mind, and Kotoko realized two things:
Kajiyama Fuuta was a lot like her, in the obvious ways.
Kajiyama Fuuta was nothing like her, in the ways that really mattered.
“The same reason as everyone else, I suppose,” she said carefully. He may have revealed his whole hand, but from experience she knew better than to do the same.
A lot of her experiences returned to her as the trial went on. She went through the motions of coaxing secrets out of quiet men, or playing along with cheery girls’ games to uncover what she was looking for. She remembered how it felt on stakeouts as she kept her eye on the warden’s door, and recalled the thrill of negotiation when she had a moment alone with them. And unfortunately, she recognized the immediate sensation of being tailed. She was used to shaking an unwanted follower out on the streets, but it was difficult to do the same when the only places to go consisted of three rooms and a corridor.
No matter how inconspicuous Fuuta thought he was being, Kotoko got a glimpse of that bright hair retreating around corners just behind her. She could feel his eyes boring into her back, always conveniently whipping away by the time she turned to look. The only thing that seemed to affect his permanently blaring volume was when she was speaking nearby – unlike a real stalker who would tactfully pretend not to be listening in, Fuuta would use the opportunity to jump into all her conversations.
Kotoko was in the middle of her morning stretches when she became aware of his presence lurking around the doorway. After several weeks of the behavior, she’d had quite enough. Kotoko knew that if you can’t shake a tail, there’s only one other option.
She stepped out of her cell, swiftly reaching for Fuuta’s collar. With a handful of his uniform, she shoved him back against the cell bars. For someone that had creeped on all her daily exercise routines, he seemed awfully shocked at how strong she was.
“Stop following me.” She kept her voice low and even. “I don’t know what you want from me, nor do I care. I will –”
“I don’t want anything from you!”
He raised his voice in an attempt to sound tough, but only succeeded in coming off desperate. He tried to weasel out of her grasp to no avail. She’d had practice intimidating guys three times her height – it was almost too easy now that she had an inch or so on Fuuta.
“Don’t give me that oblivious crap. Every day. Every single day, you –”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about! You’re the one who acting fucking crazy!”
Even after knowing it was in vain, he kept squirming under her harsh look. His eyes flicked frantically around the room, only able to take in her stone cold expression for a brief moment at a time. He kept shouting his own defenses, his cheeks growing more red by the second.
This time, the information gathered took a bit longer to fall into place. One of her conclusions was something Kotoko was very used to. The other was something she’d never quite experienced before. For the first time in long career of poker faces, she visibly started upon realizing two things:
Kajiyama Fuuta was downright terrified of her.
Kajiyama Fuuta was hopelessly attracted to her.
She hurriedly released him, jerking herself away. “Just… stay out of my way.”
“I was never in your way!” He shouted after her, his voice still shaking.
She should have stuck to her own demand and kept her distance; she was already aware of how much trouble this prisoner was capable of. But she took pride in her abilities to gather information of interest. And god, was Fuuta interesting.
Between his constantly running mouth and his never running filter, he was always keeping her on her toes. She’d never met anyone who pressed her for answers like that – Fuuta was never satisfied with the explanations that could placate everyone else. He was always questioning, always pushing back. Though his talk could be as shallow as the older prisoners' melancholy musings, or the children’s gossipy chatter, it was different when he and Kotoko really went at it in a debate.
Fuuta talked shamelessly about society, about the other prisoners, and about her. The others kept their distance from someone as quietly calculating as her, but Fuuta would pour out his thoughts right to her face. He had her back when she was trying to prove a point to the others, but was too stubborn to compromise on any of own opinions when they conflicted. It was refreshing.
And that was all it was, she would remind herself. The man would be insufferable if he was ever under the impression that she so much as tolerated his company. For everyone’s sake, he should remain completely unaware.
Awareness, however, was the very thing Kotoko prided herself in. She picked up on exactly what the warden was trying to communicate by granting her innocence. She was aware of the opportunities that arose with their disappearance. She noted the best time to fulfill her duties to them. She knew the optimal order to attack each prisoner in, to guarantee success.
It was due to her beloved observation skills that she found herself in cell 003 in the middle of the night. It didn’t matter how many training sessions Fuuta had spectated, or how many she’d invited him to join – he wasn’t as perceptive as she. He couldn’t predict or counter a single one of her movements. It only took a few moments for her to have him pinned on the ground.
“Y-you were serious?” Fuuta managed, even as her weight made it difficult for him to breathe.
She’d confided in him about her deal with the warden, one late night long before verdicts were announced. She didn’t know what had driven her to do it. It had been a rare lapse in her judgment. The current situation only confirmed why she should never reveal more information than necessary. Why she should get closer to someone than necessary.
“I am always serious.”
“Kotoko…”
She knew all of Fuuta’s typical arguments and excuses, and she had a rebuttal for each. She wound her arm back, her brass knuckles reflecting in the dim panopticon light.
“...J-just… do it fast.”
Kotoko’s arm wavered.
“What?”
“I’m not a fucking idiot. Even before that brat called you innocent, I knew that y-you were the one in the right. I used to think that you and I were the same, but I know that was all a lie. You were always the real hero. M-more than anyone else in this shithole. So…” Fuuta closed his eyes, squeezing tears from them. “Make it quicker than you did for that asshole, will ya?”
Kotoko gripped her fight tighter. It was trembling.
Fuuta’s eyes remained shut in fear. In trust. His breathing was erratic as he pretended not to be crying or struggling from the pressure on his lungs. He grit his teeth, preparing himself for what was to come. Kotoko prepared herself as well.
Releasing a cry, she swung forward. The moment before her brass knuckles clashed with the floor, just to the left of Fuuta’s face, Kotoko realized one thing:
Kajiyama Fuuta was indeed nothing but trouble.
#milgram#kotoko yuzuriha#fuuta kajiyama#0310#this was already more than i planned but i would have loved to include a symbolism comparison somehow --#the wildness and destruction of fire to a wild and violent animal#but with patience and care humans have domesticated both into beautiful helpful things#im defintiely down for a toxic they-beat-each-other-up ship but i really think it wouldnt happen#i think being around kotoko would make fuuta second guess himself and slow down (just a tiiiiny bit - not a lot lol)#but enough where hed face her punishment with dignity#and being around him would make kotoko confront her own stubborn views think about how good intentions can go awry#i was torn for characterizing kotoko... i always picture her secretive and stuff but then i remember shes very upfront in canon#so i tried to find a mix of honesty with caution#which works well with fuutas honesty and recklessness lol#also IM SORRY this is from kotokos pov and you got straight up paragraphs of 'oughghh this is why fuuta is so cool!!'#but i feel like its easy to see why hed be starstruck and inspired by her#but tougher to understand why shed fall for him back 😅#anyway thank you again for the request!! i love them and think theyre so interesting!#this was super fun#drabbles

a friend who'd wait :)
#im posting this very late because i was sort of weary of how it came out and ended up messing w it until it was like 4am oops.#and i have plans tmrw so... oh well! i did my best and ill put it out while i can!#and i tried to make the scene match barnard's colors lol#finn's ocs#finn's art#i know i said id do more sillay stuff with the simpler screentone only style but i had a couple more of these in me#and this is the first piece im making thats like an actual part of the story too rather than just setting stuff for fun#i wanna write something to go with it too but for now ill just sort of briefly explain the context in the tags here:#barnard has a pretty bad case of OCD and his compulsions have made it difficult to make friends in the past#he was never outright bullied or anything but people just didnt really have the patience to deal with it#he has compulsions that include stuff like walking through doors until it feels right and needing things to be perfectly aligned#which in group settings has lead to people having to wait for him to finish his rituals and join them#they might find it tolerable at first but eventually they grow impatient and hes just... not invited to stuff anymore#but juno is a newer member of the guild who ends up frequenting the same library. hes also kinda a little weird#and they dont become fast friends or anything but just sort of naturally spend time in the same place#though they never plan meetups they eventually fall into a routine. around the same time theyd just both be at the library#and read next to each other. and maybe talk a bit. and eventually they end up walking back to the guildhall together#since theyre going to the same place after all. and juno always waits for barnard outside the door#eventually barnard asks if this bothers him. juno kinda just tells him 'of course it does' without any malice or anything. just a statement#barnard is surprised and apologizes and juno says not to. but the next day juno doesnt show up at the usual time.#barnard assumes hes committed somekinda more by bringing it up. he ends up staying there late reading to get his mind off it & not ruminate#but when he leaves juno is in fact still waiting for him down the hall (see pic) having collected a bunch of books literally abt ocd#he fell asleep bc barnard stayed later than expected. and hes an eepy guy generally. and also one very bad at expressing himself#but now barnard gets that juno's 'of course it [bothers me]' had the implication of 'but its worth it' which no friend has previously done.#and from the interaction juno was also able to understand that this isn't something barnard just does for the hell of it so. he studies.#and checks a bunch of stuff out because he thinks it could help his friend too (theres ocd workbooks and such- i remember working w them)#and thats the point where they became more ''friends'' than ''pleasant library acquaintances''#from there on they also do get into juno's problems. whole other bag of worms. but this specific scene is more about bernard from his pov#sorry about when i said briefly explain. i lied </3#but compared to the whole sequence im picturing its brief so shhh
