I'm having another idea for prompt, please feel free to ignore it if it's too many.. Devasena comes between kattapa and amarendra when he tries to kill him. Devasena dies. Mahendra could be alive or dead. Amarendra lives

“Nanditha!” Baahubali stopped her before she could say anything else. “I have never placed restrictions upon what you or any of the other staff can say to me. But I draw the line here. Please don’t bring this up again. Or else, you will lose your job.”

Nanditha shook her head at Baahubali’s obstinance. She bowed wordlessly and left.

Amarendra hated this limbo that he and his son existed in. Despite being in a palace full of people, they were alone. He always wondered what might have happened had things gone differently that fateful night.

“Mama, no,” Devasena’s panicked yell reached his ears as he fended off yet another barrage of arrows. And just then, a heavy impact on his back—not of a weapon. He almost lost his footing. He turned around; only to see the bloodied form of his beloved wife, clutching her belly as she bled out from the fatal wound.

“DEVASENA!” He shouted. But her eyes were already fluttering close. Four arrows found their mark on his own back but he dropped to his knees and held his wife’s head in his lap. His eyes looked up to see the blood glistening on mama’s sword.

“Why?” he whispered.

Katappa did not answer.

“Baahu,” Devasena’s soft voice called out to him… “Baahu, look after our son.”

“No, you cannot leave me, Deva, no…” Heartrending sobs shook his frame as the flood of tears from his eyes rolled down his face and drenched his beard.

“Stay strong, my love. I am always here.”

She said no more.

He indeed saw her everywhere that night. In his own rage that reduced Bhallaladeva to an unrecognizable mass of flesh and blood. In Sivagami’s shame as she stepped down from the position of the Queen Mother. In Bijjaladeva’s grief when he saw the remains of his son’s body. And in the relief that only came from Mahendra’s reassuring cries as he screamed for milk.

Mahendra. His last link to the only true connection of his life.

The midwife suggested goat’s milk for the infant. A wet nurse from could have been arranged from a nearby village. But he didn’t trust anyone. Even now, he milked the goat himself and fed his son with his own hands.

As much as he loved and respected Katappa, the old man had lost his trust the moment he agreed to commit murder on Sivagami’s orders.

A rational part of Baahubali’s mind knew he was being needlessly harsh. It wasn’t Katappa’s fault that he was bound to the throne.

But that did not take away from the bitterness of that night. Nor did it lessen the pain of what had been lost forever.

Every breath he took, was a moment stolen from Devasena’s unlived years. Sometimes, he wished he had been killed that night instead of her. Perhaps, then, she would have taken Mahendra and run away. Perhaps, his son would have grown up in a small hamlet somewhere, unbothered by the burdens of Mahishmati’s crimes.

And yet, all his wishful thinking was of no use.

Baahubali could only do his best as a single father. And Mahendra would have to learn all about his mother from his father’s stories.

“Katappa, I am going to the nursery,” he said and stood up. “When the ambassador from Jwalarajyam arrives, you can take them to the guest suite. I will see them in the evening.”

“As you say, Maharaj,” Katappa bowed and saw the king out.

In the nursery, Mahendra slept peacefully in his cot while the royal physician sat on a daybed and mixed a neem and turmeric concoction for the baby.

He stood up when Baahubali entered.

“Is the medicine ready?” the king asked.

“It is, sir. Would you like me to taste it now?”

“Yes, please.”

Eight months ago, Mukundaraju would have been insulted at the insinuation that a medicine made by him could be poisonous. But seeing Baahubali’s extreme fierceness and his total distrust on everyone, he could hardly refuse.

Baahubali placed his hand on his forehead and brushed the hair away, marveling at the sheer perfection of his brow, the curve of his eyes, and his puckered lips that resembled his mother’s.

For several hours, the king feasted his troubled soul on the child’s gentle face. The storm of betrayals, pain, and loneliness seemed to calm down in this little sanctuary, where each moment was punctuated only by the snores of a napping infant.

In the evening, Katappa came to summon him.

A few minutes later, Baahubali made his way to the meeting chambers with his child in his arms. For the staff of the Mahishmati palace, it was business as usual. I admit, I was as bitter as everyone else at both of these two immediately post-BB2; but I have to say, after writing their perspectives in fic, and reading the brilliant meta you guys have come up with, I’ve grown much more sympathetic? Sivagami, I think, is molded by her years of holding together a likely-misogynistic, rather warlike kingdom all by herself --meaning that any threat of dissent and rebellion, no matter who it’s from, really will cause the destruction she fears. And Kattappa is in an awful, awful situation, where he’s conditioned into obedience, even if it destroys him (though I admit to still wanting to howl “KATTAPPA WHY????” every so often).

Okay, wait--I know you guys are probably all blinking at your screens in disbelief, but: my unpopular opinion is that assuming everything happened in canon as is, and barring magic/amnesia/some other random plot device, there is no way I can believe that Amarendra would have ever let Bhalla live after the shit he pulled. 

And here, I think, we come to what is truly my most unpopular opinion in fandom, but: Baahu is a good man, but not quite St. Baahu. I feel like a lot of fandom gives him grief for trusting Bhalla, and he....doesn’t? As soon as it becomes clear that Bijjaladeva and Bhalla’s vendetta against him isn’t going to spare Devasena and by extension, Mahendra, Amarendra a) gets really mad to the point of outright killing someone in cold blood and b) by accepting exile, also gets his family out of what has proven to be a dangerous home environment for them, even if it means giving up the privileges of a royal lifestyle. (There’s more to it than that, but I think it’s likely that also plays a role in Amarendra’s thought process in that scene). 

Plus, though we all wish Amarendra had taken Devasena and the baby and just moved to Kuntala, he...honestly has no reason to suspect that Bhalla is that vindictive? I mean, Bhalla’s won; Amarendra’s given up any claim to the throne for himself or his child, has left the palace, and in no way is trying to amass power. No sane person would see any use in persecuting him further! (”He will always live like a king” is said by Bijju, not by Amarendra; all Amarendra and Devasena do in “Dandalayya” is literally community service/volunteer work, and Bhalla kills him for it because he’s the absolute worst.)

But all that to say: taking all of that into account, I do think Amarendra’s berserk buttons are going after his wife, his mother, and his son (with an extra bonus for breaking Kattappa’s heart). Bhalla’s three for three, almost instantaneously after Amarendra is killed; and, if he’d somehow magically survived, I cannot see Amarendra letting him live for it. I think he’d kill Bhalla without guilt, grief, or compunction, and I....am not sure I could blame him for it.

WARNING SPOILER ALERT!!!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED I went to see Baahubali 2 The Conclusion and my god I loved this movie so much. The first one was good but this surpassed by expectations and stunned me beyond words. I loved the smallest details that the director SS. Rajamouli added into the film, it showed how much effort was put into making the film. The movie itself was completely riveting I never wanted to look away from the theatre screen with the fear that I would miss out a scene. Each scene was so well made, the scenes were breathtaking and the audio was so strong and powerful. It was such a well made movie and I am so proud of being from the region that Tollywood is from. My favourite scenes have got to be when Amarendra teaches Devasena how to shoot with 3 arrows just them fighting in harmony made my freaking day. I loved how he let her do her thing instead of being all go and take shelter I save you, No that's not what he did, he respected and admires her courage and strength which probably led to her falling in love with him. I mean who wouldnt hes a perfect human being. Another of my favourites was when he stood up for her and eventually lost his right to the throne because he believed his wife and god he loved her to the point her sacrificed his love for the people and the one thing he trained for since he was born. I loved that scene so much I would have married him right there. Unfortunately these kind of things dont happen to women when their partners/spouses wont defend them against their mothers. In which it really inspired me with what Amarendra did. Moving on to songs, my favourite songs in the movie was Dandalayya, Hamsa Naava like I kept playing them on repeat, they were very well composed by MM. Keeravani I liked these songs a lot more than the first movie, Baahubali The Beginning. Next, the actors themselves. PRABHAS. My goodness he was so amazing as Amarendra Baahubali, simply fantastic he was every bit Baabhubalis character demanded. Arrogance, Charisma, Strong, Powerful, Caring and Generous. Truly a stunning performer he played both Baahubalis so well although I must say that I enjoyed watching Amarenda Baahubali much more than Mahendra Baahubali. RANA Daggubati was brilliant he portrayed Bhallaldeva so well if made me feel so much hatred towards him, which shows that the actor is good because it evokes genuine feelings from the audience. ANUSHKA SHETTY . HOLY CARP she was a goddess in this movie so well played. She played the part of the warrior princess so well. Every bit of her character was potrayed a strong, brave and independent. I liked her before but now i love her after watching this movie. She such a strong character she her own army. Its so difficult to see these kind of characters in Indian cinema unfortunately, however things are gradually changing and I am so glad for the change in more female oriented movies. Ramya Krishnan she was fabulous as Rajamata Sivagamj such a strong women leading the kingdom alone, shes a real inspiration. In this movie her role consisted of playing and vulnerable humane like when she was blinded by her own familys conspiracies which eventually led to the demise of Baahubali buts she was sophisticated and suave she deserves an award for her role. Sathyaraj A.K.A. Kattapa, finally after almost 2 years we found why Kattapa kills the son that he raised and loved. He played him so well and wa every bit Loyal, Caring and Caring Kattapa is. In this movie Kattappa has a more comedic role which Sathyaraj plays very well. A surprise Bonus Character is Subba Raju as Kumara Verma, I loved him he was so comic and hilarious and in the end he turned out to be such an amazing warrior fighting till death for Baahubali . In Conclusion( hahaha get the pun?!?) Baahubali 2 was stupendous going beyond my expectations it had everything that an audience wants a great cast, an action and romance packed movie with great fighting scenes . In my opinion the plot was a bit weak and could have been better but other than that everything was fantastic. I am so proud to be a Teluguite because of the fact that we keep getting flak that we dont make good movies so the haters can suck it. I hope that Indian Cinema continues to produce and create this standard of movies. I wish to congratulate the movie and its team on the terrific job they have done. Filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli's magnum opus Baahubali 2: The Conclusion has upped the bar for box office earnings for Indian films by amassing Rs 400 crore plus worldwide in its opening weekend since its release on April 28, according to trade experts.
