I will admit I'm a little salty that people, in an effort to prove that there is no good dialogue in Veilguard at all, keep comparing mission exposition to the high point narrative set pieces of prior games. I agree that some of the writing related to plot mechanics and mission exposition in Veilguard is a little too utilitarian, but that doesn't mean none of the dialogue is good or that prior games didn't also sometimes have this issue here and there.

I also generally dislike when people put the bar for good writing — and all writing too, not even just dialogue writing, ALL writing — at mic-drop sentences that still sound good completely divorced from context, because that really just reduces "good writing" down to like fake-deep philosophizing or witty quips exclusively. sometimes, a really good bit of dialogue sounds like a completely normal sentence out of context.

thinking about how that solavellan ending actually Works for lavellans who want that hopeful ending but arent as forgiving abt the whole situation as veilguard presented it. and i do think in ashara's case, yes, she goes with him out of love, but more so out of duty. post trespasser she drops the name lavellan in favor of her family name, dhavise, since her place in the clan had already been cast into question and her allegiances with the chantry/solas are cause for doubt as to whether she's even welcome back anymore. but i think by the end of veilguard she's reaffirmed her identity as Lavellan no matter what, and truly does see herself as the Keeper of not just her own clan but of her whole modern people, and with that rekindled purpose she chooses to watch over them all by way of watching over fen'harel. protecting them by protecting him from himself. which ironically is the reason the dalish HAVE keepers in the first place

I'm compiling shit for what MI6 actually, canonically knows about Yassen Gregorovich and I wanted to share some of the highlights from riffing with @akilah12902

Jones be like "remember after the Damian Cray incident when Alex said Gregorovich saved his life?" Cuz I don't think MI6 knows about Yassen's part in s3 at all

Just that he saved Alex's life on AF1 and then they found a gun with his prints on it next to a dead sniper who was aiming a gun at the entrance to their building

so in the second half of snakehead I'm gonna cut away to them periodically being like "we really need to figure out what the fuck is going on with this hitman who keeps showing up in really weird places"

Gonna have Smithers putting together an unhinged Yassen timeline

"once again we have no idea where Yassen Gregorovich is" (he's like two blocks away having lunch with Alex)

Alex: It was just luck that Kyra happened to have already stolen Smithers' phone so we could look into it without tell you anything

Smithers, to Jones: it's like Kyra Vashenko-Chao, except… More. (jones having told alex she's not stable)

Tom, in the corner: He yassassinated them

Jones: WHY ARE YOU EVEN HERE

Smithers: also: yassassinated? Amazing. Spectacular. Absolutely going to see how many reports I can alter to use that instead

Kyra: It's only a yassassination if Yassen does it, otherwise it's a sparkling hit

Pike and Scanlan getting married: I'm not into this but it's the end of the campaign. It's easy enough to let it go and move on. Pike indicating she and Scanlan are amicably divorced: The knowledge that it didn't work out adds a bittersweet angle to the marriage that actually makes me like it more now. Whatever the fuck Pike and Scanlan have going on now: This is a glorious disaster and I want like a million episodes of this.

think people act like kingdom hearts is a given so they 'arent in a rush' but like it's not. and we also know now, officially, that the series is working toward its ending, that there will not be another arc or saga after this one. idk, folks but we running out of kingdom hearts time and i just really think as a kh fandom, we ought to be doing more not less in the face of that.

"Thank you," Tim says, dropping the swab into the evidence bag. Kenley eyes him sourly for a last long moment, then makes a point of looking at Vic instead. Tim feels distinctly ignored. 

That's definitely not because Kenley's stopped seeing him as a potential threat, he knows, and can't help suspecting it's that they trust Kon more than they don't trust him. 

Or they think Kon's going to be easier to manipulate than the rest of them, given the clone factor, and–

"You're doing good, Kenley," Kon says, giving Kenley another gentle little squeeze. Tim remembers, again, how quickly he had that name to hand. "Want a lollipop or something after this? Gar's probably got some kicking around if Bart doesn't.” 

"Why?" Kenley asks. 

"This is basically your first doctor's appointment," Kon says reasonably. "Lollipops are traditional, right?" 

". . . hm," Kenley says, brow just barely creasing assessingly. 

"Kon, they've never eaten anything in their life and you want to start them off with candy?" Cassie asks, putting her hands on her hips and looking exasperated by the idea. 

"Yeah," Kon replies with a shrug. "Tasting stuff for the first time is really overwhelming, simpler flavors are easier to start with. Not gonna want to order them paneer right now, you know? Maybe get them some of those bottled smoothies to start, actually, on that note. I puked the first couple times I tried eating and I'm pretty sure my teenage stomach was more capable of handling solid food than a kindergarten one is gonna be. Plus sugar tastes good, and Kenley should get to taste something good for their first time." 

"Oh, uh, good idea," Cassie says, blanching slightly. Tim empathizes with the urge to backpedal on saying the wrong thing here. Deeply empathizes. He's not sure it would've even occurred to him to make sure that Kenley's first experience with taste was a positive one or that they might have trouble with solid food right off the bat, himself. 

Kon's "ours" comment is both making more and more sense and also is probably for the best, at this point. 

“What flavor do you wanna try?” Bart asks Kenley, peering curiously at them. “Wonder Girl's favorite is cherry and mine's orange and Robin's is green apple, so you might like one of those or you could try–” 

“Mango,” Kenley says, burying their face in Kon's chest and gripping his jacket again. 

. . . that's Kon's favorite, Tim knows. 

And he'd be a lot less concerned by that choice if Bart had actually mentioned that fact. Especially because mango is a much, much more specific and unusual candy flavor than something like grape or lemon.

The red towers! We actually found them on our very first day in town but didn't have any props to take the pictures and decided to come back later for a proper shooting.

Once again, finding the perfect angle was a funny detective game, but we were guided by the love of Gays and Ice:

Speaking of Gays on Ice, our lovebirds decided to join too! @tony-dreams was very happy to lend them a hand (I'm just posting this so I can hear him laugh at the awful pun, don't mind me).

After that you can imagine we were rather hungry so we took everyone to eat a nice meal...

The unfortunate thing is that studying Classics DID make me a bit of a pretentious prick at times 😔 The one thing my Latin teacher asked me not to do lmao.

But anyway, a lot of the time it's so hard for me to get into things that are adaptations of myths because people act... so weird about it. Like you know it's an adaptation, right? You do know what "adaptation" means, don't you? Please, tell me you do, because it seems like you really don't.

"This character fucking sucks because in the original text, they-", let me stop you right there: it does NOT apply because you're transferring things from the original myth to the adaptation when IT'S NOT THE SAME THING. What are we doing here, really?

It's just like... oh, boy, if we're gonna do that, I have bad news about Hades and Persephone. Very bad news. And yet people never blink when it comes to adaptations making them a sweet love story instead of... you know, the whole kidnapping situation.

I just need people to stop acting stupid about this.
