Laios's three Boy Best Friends. And yes, they hate him.
#dungeon meshi#laios touden#toshiro nakamoto#chilchuck tims#kabru#BF in this context could be boyfriend or best friend. The line is so blurry.#Chilchuck less so but whatever is going on between Shuro and Laios & Kabru and Laios is giving strong:#“dude if you were a girl I'd date the hell out of you”. And from the genderswap extra's that sentiment is canon for BOTH.#This was made prior to the translation of the Laios & Kabru & Shuro restaurant date comic and honestly I am just feeling vindicated.#I don't even know what to call this dynamic other than a situationship. There is so much going on between all of them.#Even on a purely platonic reading - the miscommunication and male yearning for friendship hurt so bad.#When we got the Big Hug scene in the epilogue arc I was whooping and hollering! Pure catharsis moment!#I also don't like hugs very much so I really felt it went Shuro ('hates being touched') went in for the bear hug.#Do not get me started on the agony of 'always lying' Kabru telling the truth (I just wanted to be friends)#and 'always believes' Laios thinking it's another lie and brushing him off.#I am once again supporting dungeon meshi day by posting art. Please watch dungeon meshi.#obligatory edit because I’m tired: YES. Chilchuck cares for Laios and him admitting it was a huge part of his arc#YES he is more just fed up with him that actually hating him.#I needed a third guy to be canonically done with his ass for the THREE WEED SMOKING GIRLFRIENDS reference

No but let’s talk about the whole Apokalips thing in Our Worlds At War. Young Justice 1:35–37, Superboy 1:91, Impulse 1:89.
Kon really, really screwed up. His impulsive and insubordinate actions, expressly against Robin’s orders and in full opposition to the rescue mission they were engaged on, led directly to:
the permanent death of one team member (Slobo is not Lil Lobo even if he does have his memories, and neither are any of the other regenerated Lobos, most of whom also die; original Lobo remains dead)
the partial death of another (Bart is in a coma for over a week after experiencing the death of his speedforce duplicate)
the start of Greta’s corruption arc via Darkseid
and the torture and thorough traumatisation of the rest of team (they are held in VR worlds where they are forced to live through the deaths of their loved ones and their own deaths, repeatedly).
Tim leaves Young Justice over this. Bart stops being a hero altogether for a while.
And we never see Kon apologise.
Okay so yes he acknowledges to himself he is entirely at fault for this. He spends a whole issue agonising over what he’s done and yes, he resolves to apologise to Robin.
But he never does. He gets distracted by some fallout from the war and by Joker’s Last Laugh. Tim gets involved again in World Without Young Justice, when reality has been altered and none of them are who they should be.
And then after that, Tim, who is relieved that his identity has been revealed (something he wanted to do long ago) in a way that he couldn’t control or be blamed for, asks to rejoin the team.
And.
Kon and Cassie do this:
Tumblr media
(I’m not blaming Snapper, Ray, or Slobo, none of whom were there when this went down even if Slobo does have the memories of it. They are just following Kon and Cassie’s cues.)
And Tim reacts like this:
Tumblr media
Which is not the reaction of someone who has already received a heartfelt apology.
And yes, then they hug and welcome Tim back into the team. But I think Tim ends up fully internalising that his leadership (and his refusal to share his identity, like they have any right to it) is to blame for the whole debacle. And Kon lets him go on thinking that.
#the worst of it all is that Kon’s diversion to attempt to rescue Steel is completely unnecessary in the first place#Dark Racer was taking Steel to Apokalips to *resurrect* him not to damn him#and Kon had been whinging the entire time they were on these rescue missions#because he didn’t think saving lives was as important as fighting the bad guys directly#so Tim was feeling very short with him anyway#I have not found out who (if anyone) ended up rescuing the Suicide Squad when YJ didn’t turn up for them#also they were only just out of an argument about the Government Property Baby which is a whole other thing#but crucially Tim did concede that Kon was *right* about the baby and told Kon as much#before they were ever drafted into interplanetary rescue missions#Kon never gives Tim the same courtesy after Apokalips#neither do we see Kon apologise to *Bart* who was honestly the worst affected#(and yes I stand by Tim’s team has no right to his identity)#(I don’t need to know what my boss or colleagues get up to in their off hours to be able to trust them to do their jobs)#(yes if they want to be team-as-family they will need to have that level of trust but they need to wait for Tim to get there himself)#(in this case that would mean Tim deciding it’s worth defying both Batman and Nightwing which is something he doesn’t actually do lightly)#(and it shouldn’t affect them trusting Tim enough to lead them on missions)#this post brought to you by I’m fed up of people using this storyline as evidence that Kon and Tim love each other so so much#that’s really not what’s going on there#dc comics#tim drake#yj98#our worlds at war#young justice

Gem: "What are you doing?" Pearl: "I don't know!" Gem: "We were friends!"
they had such a tragic alliance I'm fucking sobbing they wanted so badly to be together and take on the server together but they were so loyal to their teams they couldn't do it - they spent the whole time they were fighting apologising and begging each other to stop! it's so heart breaking how much they didn't want to hurt each other but did anyway

QUIET ON THE OLD FRONTIER (excerpt from THE THRILLING AND NOT AT ALL REPETITIVE ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN MAN AND KID DANGER: “A CHRONOLOGY OF ENTIRELY TRUE AND HEROIC EVENTS COINCIDING WITH THE END OF HISTORY”) [1] [2] [3] [4]
Well, you know how it goes down in Hollywood: the sun never sinks on the West Coast, and no one can ever die for real.
Tumblr media
[ Henry’s expression is frozen, part acceptance, part trepidation. A stallion stands in the forefront of the second panel, backlit by the stretch of desert and a yellow sun. The horse’s front leg is dotted with red; below, Ray is mid-grin with his arms outstretched, hands cut out of frame. The horse, mid-motion, flees toward the horizon. It won’t make it. ]
“I just can’t quit you,” is the kind of thing he would say, big hands outstretched to clasp the back of his neck or to fit over Henry’s windpipe like a noose. It’d be a bit, with a Southern drawl and eyes not quite meeting his, but there would be just enough substance that Henry could pause and think, Well. Maybe you should.
Somewhere underneath that ego is a person capable of letting go, of cutting their losses. Henry’s seen the Old Westerns in their grainy film and open desert, and knows the kind of look good men get in their eye when their horse buckles. It’s the same guarded expression he wore when Drex came barreling back in, looking like Henry might in a few years time—angry, bitter, and stuck in the same place after all those years. Drex came back on his own, but still holding the old reins. Maybe that’s a difference between Ray and the good man; when Henry breaks his leg, he gets benched and pulled from the field. He’ll be back out again the moment his femur mends because he won’t see the break for the escape it could be. A fracture is never just a fracture, and a boy is never just a boy.
A horse with a bum leg gets taken into the field. It can’t return because it never leaves. Oh, well. It was a good beast, a good ride while it lasted.

PANEL NOTES:
The first chapter of the fic “bite your tongue” by ao3 user irregularsatanist (slavishtrust) motivated this significantly, although this is not explicitly lifted. I am obsessed with their mind! Every time I read and reread, my fingers get the itch to storyboard. Much to say, and more to come, surely. (I’m actually being so, so, so serious, the levity of their work is what incepted me into this hyperfixation and every version of the characters I have in my head is inadvertently colored by the blueprint of trauma, codependency, and exploitation in the aftermath of young adulthood that their continuity of portrayal has lain out. I’m not kidding I’m being so real about this rn)
Something about the Wild West motif is just really, really compelling to me: empty space, inherent isolation, man in nature, evocative of incoming change sweeping into the country and devastating those that lived before and in the now and yet still feeling stagnant in the hugeness of the land, and the kind of vulnerability that the wilderness digs out of you. There is no difference between the civilized and the uncivilized here. I don’t think I’m super subtle about it.
There is an anonymous mark on Henry’s neck in the top panel. It could be blood, a bruise, dirt or dust, inflicted or coincidental, etc.
Three instances of hands, or hands in omission: Ray’s hand gripping Henry, the implication of his hands extended outward/upward, and the hand holding the gun in the bottom right panel. In the former and latter, they are highlighted with yellow lines.
Henry does not reach back for Ray, but he doesn’t retreat, either.
Henry and Ray’s respective paneling colors differ.
The horse represents freedom & captivity, cyclical tenancies, dehumanization, and escape into the natural.
Here, Henry may even identify with the gun itself. Ray’s hand over his face + neck mirrors the grip over the firearm, and the line where flesh meets object (or, in this case, Henry) is highlighted by the same line work.
The horse envisioned is a wild one that was groomed into captivity and subsequently domesticated. In most ‘horse’ narratives, the struggle culminates in the question of freedom—or return to nature—as opposed to the human need to keep. By allowing a creature of nature, which was not born into civilization but rather introduced into it, to return to its motherland is a humanist act and therefore a rejection of corporate or urban conformity. The horse exists as an objectified commodity, one to be used or paraded. To relinquish the horse demonstrates more than love, arguably something more important: respect. To respect nature is to relinquish the grip of expansion.
I feel like this is the moment when Henry returns and they both reunite with one another after a period of time. Ray’s expression, while still ambiguous, is much easier to parse than Henry’s. Henry, of course, considers himself the defective horse, and weighs the three possible routes: escape (back) into the wild, to be taken into a field and shot (real Old Yeller style), or to be ridden again. Each carries their own merit and implication of autonomy.
The reality of each unfolding is still dependent on Ray: if he lets him go, if he decides Henry must be discarded, if he utilizes him still—or, if he is defective at all.
Ray’s problem isn’t that he’ll be tempted to shoot the horse, but instead that he wouldn’t. The good man takes the creature out of its misery if he can’t heal, house, and release it. This guy would rather have a bloody horse in his house until the end of time than admit he shouldn’t have had it in the first place. From Ray’s perspective, the reunion is best characterized as the return of the prodigal son. To Henry, this is more of an ego death in slow motion.
Ego Death: “The disappearance of an individual’s sense of self, or the removal of one’s perception of oneself as an entity separate from one’s social or physical environment.” (Britannica)
Prodigal Son: “…a man or boy who has left his family in order to do something that the family disapprove of and has now returned home feeling sorry for what he has done.” (Cambridge Dictionary)
The chapter title, “QUIET ON THE OLD FRONTIER” is a reference to All Quiet on the Western Front, the English title of Erich Maria Remarque’s 1929 novel about the traumatic aftermath of World War I. The term, “all quiet on the Western Front” is a colloquialism referring to a lack of progress, or stagnation. “Front” is interchanged with “frontier”, Americanizing the phrase to refer to the Old West and settlement. California, on the Western Coast of the U.S., is assumed to be in close proximity with the location of the narrative.
Of course, “I just can’t quit you” is the iconic dialogue between cowboys Jack and Ennis in Brokeback Mountain (2005), the epitome of the modern Western movie (based on a novel of the same name). Here, the context is not exactly the same, but still (uncomfortably) adjacent. Sometimes, quitting is good. It can help you grow up big and strong.

I’m regards to the reveal of the rebel faction actually being a thing, I wanna bring up a conversation Bagi and bbh had a few days ago.
They were talking about morality I believe and Bagi said “You don’t understand me” and bbh countered with “I’ve been on this island for 6 months. You don’t understand me.”
This faction has been on the island longer than any of the players. If there is such a massive divide in world view between two people from just six months of being on the island - what kind of difference will there be for these rebels? How desperate are they? How warped is their perception of reality?
I have no doubt that this faction’s perception of the situation is drastically more radicalized than any of the players. They’ve already resorted to child murder - although I doubt they see the eggs as sentient beings and instead as tools for the federation to control the islanders - and infecting islanders with potentially deadly parasites.
This organization has already stooped to using the federation’s own methods against them ie using the eggs to manipulate the islanders through code flippa so I have no doubt they will be just as ruthless as the federation. Some of the islanders will be able to adapt and embrace the ruthlessness while others won’t and I can’t wait to see what kind of conflict and infighting this will create

my clone culture headcanon is that they have almost no traditional mandalorian ties, they picked up almost nothing culturally/linguistically from the mandalorian trainers, but the one thing they DID get were endearments/affectionate and-or comforting words/etc.
b/c 1) that was the only way the trainers could somewhat express affection for their favorites without getting dinged for being too attached to them since no one there actually spoke mando’a 2) kaminoans would be Unhappy if the clones expressed affection openly so secret language words were the only way to safely verbalize caring and loving, so they picked up on those few kind words VERY quickly
(The way I see it working is that the trainers had favorites, would occasionally say something like “chin up, hang in there, good job kiddo,” and said favorites picked up those terms without actually ever getting Direct Translations of what they mean. So they get the words and some context but have to jumble it together themselves and pronunciation and meaning change the further away it spreads from the original favorites - because all of this is spread in private, quietly, until it grows its own legs in different iterations with different battalions imho
like they know adding -‘ika to a name is affectionate and feels like a diminutive but they don’t know what it means exactly and sometimes plug it into names in grammatically odd ways, so instead of “Trap’ika” you get “Trapper’ika” which sounds more like “Trapperka” when you’re talking fast.)
(i’m just a fan of gentle soft pet names and showing affection quietly and how love finds a way and how the clones can take what little scraps they were given and make it their own)
#starlight fandom#star wars#clone troopers#clone trooper culture#mandalorian culture#the clones didn’t get much of anything they had to take and mold what little they did receive#the few kind words they received would be hoarded and built upon I feel that strongly#and I’m v much a ‘I don’t see them getting much of mandalorian culture even if the trainers had tried to teach them’#which I don’t think they would#but even if they did I think the clones would have enough ‘the galaxy doesn’t care about us we are our own people’ that they#would create so much of their own beliefs and culture based on their circumstances rather than what little they were fed by others#all of the posts about clones picking up Jedi beliefs make me feral tbh because the thought of them choosing Jedi compassion -#after being bred for war is very chef’s kiss to me#(I also hope this doesn’t come across anti-mandalorian that’s not what I’m aiming for at all)#(I just don’t think the clones are mandalorian and I don’t think most of them would want to be)#(I also don’t think the clones would ever be a ‘one size fits all’ in these beliefs like there’s probs at least a dozen of them who do want#mandalorian culture and a handful that would want to be more traditional and a handful that would want to melt beskar down for scrap)#(I just find it unlikely that there would be one overarching clone culture after they left kamino I think there would be a base/foundation#but they’d develop in different directions and different dialects and different beliefs almost immediately due to 1) war 2) separation#3) sped up aging that means their development is fast tracked - a month in war is like aging 10yrs for them I bet)#anyway I’ll shut up now this is my personal headcanon supported not at all by canon I just like playing in the sandbox :)

Random life update let's go!
So, in my house we have an aread w a dinning table outside, next to our yard, and in this place there is ou beloved celling fan that we haven't used in years because it was too weak and the warmth here needed a strong mechanism to dealt with it
Those last months, we notices that a couple of birds we're making a nest on the... idk the name to be honest but its like a small metal bowl right above the fan and we were quite amazed because :D even tho we do have some trees on the yard it's been years since I saw a nest
S o
Recently they hatched.
How did we discovered it?
Because a small baby bird FELL ON THE TABLE OUT OF NOWHERE
Now we're making plans to place a safety nest somewhere below the fan because the ground is very, very hard (pure concrete) and the nest is very small for the two babies (that I've seen until now) and the mother bird. Oh gosh ajvahwvwvsvwjw good morning to all of us I guess
