read the update, find some reps from your state (if there are any) who are demanding a ceasefire and mention them in your call.
tag below who your least favorite office to call is; mine is Ted Budd. half the time it goes to voicemail, the other half it’s some frat boy who goes “mhm” “ok” while i’m talking
#me 2024#palestine#free palestine#israel#call your reps#five calls#i need to start calling about KOSA again too bc i miss freedom of internet but this is more important to me rn#it can be hard to keep calling when the people on the other line sound like they kinda want you dead but keep going it’s the least we can do

As you all know, the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) stalled out in the House of Representatives on August 1st 2024–The bill is still currently dead as of writing this post.
That being said, I’d also like to remind everyone that the House comes back from Summer Recess next Monday, September 9th. With only a few work weeks left ‘til the Election, there is a possibility—key word possibility, that pro-censorship lawmakers in the House will try one last time to pass KOSA. Nothing has been confirmed as of now, Evan had not raised any alarms so there is no need to panic.
My intention is not to spread misinformation or cause panic with this post, but to warn you all so in the instance this does happen, We’ll be ready to fight like hell.
I advise that we remain vigilant, but also calm. The only reason KOSA hasn’t passed yet is because we’ve remained calm & organized; So long as we keep this up, We’ll win out.
Make sure that any further information you post is accurate & from a reliable source.
Please spread this around.
Nothing has happened yet, we’ll be okay.
Keep calm & keep fighting.

The return of the KOSA bill.
I’m sure that people have been seeing this go around, but to the people who haven’t: KOSA, has been brought back from the dead.
For the people who don’t know what KOSA is or the people who may need a refresher, here’s what KOSA is: KOSA stands for the Kids Online Safety Act. It’s a bill that the American government claims will help keep children away from content that they shouldn’t be consuming at their age. While this sounds good, it’s actually a lie. What KOSA would really do is let the Federal Trade Commission decide what is and isn’t acceptable for kids to consume. Topics like LGBTQ+ rights, gun control, racism, Palestine, and etc are all on the chopping block. Not only that, KOSA will require internet users to upload their ID just to post, and I don’t think I need to explain how dangerous that is. To sum it up, KOSA is a bill that will create a media where free speech isn’t an option and will be the death of the internet.
It is likely that the bill will be going to markup this Wednesday, which is tomorrow. So, we need to hurry when it comes to taking action.
“How can I help to show my disagreement with KOSA?”
Here’s how: Call your state senators and call the house leaders and house majority speakers, both republican and democrat.
Here’s a link to Alpha’s video to see how that can be done

KOSA - Dead, maybe?
A while back, it was brought to my attention that KOSA may have been pigeonholed. This means that it's being locked away for the time being, while the government is going to focus on other bills.
However, do not quote me on this. There's a chance that this may be merely a rumor, and they're still contemplating it.
We may have won the battle, but we still need to win the war.
This will be the last time I mention KOSA for a bit. It will not be the last post I make about it; I will still post about it when I deem it fit, but I would also like to post other things to prevent your doom scrolling.
Thank you.

At this point saying and hashtagging #Stop Kosa isn't enough. We should doing a #Stop Chuck Schumer tag.
And by stopping him, I mean calling him as much as Mike Johnson, Hakeem Jeffries, and Steve Scalise, and politely and patiently convincing him on why Kill Online Speech Act will not be good for anyone, let alone American kids.
Schumer has been pushing for KOSA way too much (even more than Marsha Blackburn and Richard Blumenthal lately, and they were the ones who created that cursed bad internet bill in the first place) and he is mostly likely the reason KOSA is back from the dead after being gone for just about a month.
He has using Kill Online Speech Act's title of "Kids Safety" and misguided American parents to push the bill to become legal (even though there are American parents that do not want KOSA). We need not only more Americans, especially American parents to call him and convince why making KOSA a law would not only be bad for kids (and everyone else in the world) but will also make America look bad.
TLTR: Chuck Schumer looks like KOSA biggest supporter and is most likely the reason why Kill Online Speech Act got brought back from the dead even though the bill is an invasion of privacy and violates the first amendment. The more American parents call him on all the reasons why is a bad internet bill, the more likely we can KOSA can be dead for good.
Please parents and everyone else, use the google doc and other links before and keep calling Mike Johnson, Hakeem Jeffries, Steve Scalise, and Chuck Schumer calmly and politely. For the sake of having free and safe internet for everyone regardless of age.

KOSA IS DEAD!!!
WE FUCKING DID IT YALL!!!
I got this email from Fight From The Future yesterday and you know how I said there was A LOT more opposition to KOSA in the House of Representatives? I didn’t know it was this much! to the point where they said they won’t even LOOK at it!
KOSA IS OUT THAT DOOR BABY, BYE BYE BYE BITCH!!!
BOOYA!!!!
Now of course we all need to celebrate and take a day or two to breathe a collective sigh of releif. I know I am. I’ve been fighting this godforsaken bill alongside a mutual of mine on tiktok since this thing first crawled out of hell back in 2022.
However there are still internet censorship bills out there looking to get through individual state governments that y’all should keep an eye on. And there’s always a chance that Marsha Blackburn will try to reintroduce the bill under a different name or something in the next legislative cycle but at least we have a long while until then. And that’s IF it happens. We still must continue to fight these fascist censorship bills and keep the internet a haven of free speech as it was intended to be.
And if you live in Tennessee and are able to, Marsha Blackburn is up for re-election this year. So if we can get her voted out, then Kosa REALLY can’t come back!
Lastly, I wanna thank every single one of you that blew up my posts and spread the word. On every other social media platform I have, when I spoke up about this, I was largely ignored or it just did not reach enough people. Tumblr is the only place my voice reached people about this. All of you showed up and showed out and fought like hell. Thank you for your help. And thank you for listening to me.

Let's get some good shit done: 9/26/23
In the name of encouraging each other, supporting each other, and reminding us all how many ways there are to help - how much each of us can make a difference -
Reply or comment (or add in the tags if you’d prefer) with something you did recently to help the environment, your community, or people who need it. Big or small.
<3
Here’s my version. It's been an unusually good couple weeks I think!
Got certified in CPR and first aid (this was to apply for some jobs but I'm still really glad I did it in general)
Started to once again actually honor my damn commitment to wearing masks in stores and the like (slipped over the summer unfortunately)
Researched soil rehabilitation to teach stuff to my mom
Got my mom to start raking dead leaves onto all the (many, many) bare patches in our backyard. Other steps to follow. Soon the yard is gonna be so much healthier! (I hope!)
Relatedly, stopped my mom from accidentally killing all her herb plants by leaving them somewhere with insufficient sun (nobody ever tell my mom I post about this shit lmao)
About to start applying for some care work jobs (cross your fingers for me)
Called my representatives to tell them not to vote for KOSA, on privacy/human rights reasons
Got "smudging ceremony" instructions cut from a business book by a white and non-Indigenous author, now replaced with smoke cleansing. If I'm very lucky my explanatory lil essay will get the author to make the switch in their own business as well
Actually I think I removed smudging from two different books in the past month? (I'm a book editor for context) So that's always good
Removed some ableist language from those books while I was at it. This kind of thing doesn't always come up, but it's always really nice when I get to actually help fix this stuff
Honestly, one of the things that makes me really heartened and feel hopeful about the future is the way I've seen things shift re: sensitivity edits. When I started working in publishing (less than 10 years ago!), I had to carefully count and ration all of my sensitivity comments/notes to make sure they were taken seriously and that none of my bosses or coworkers got pissed at me
Now, I literally advertise sensitivity edits as one of my specialties up front, I regularly get actively thanked and praised specifically for those notes, and I don't have to hold back at all (tho I do ofc still write them very politely)
We still have a ways to go, but there really has been so much of a change in attitudes on this front, writ large
Anyway, essay over - tell me about the cool things you all did!

I just gotta get this off my chest
I'm not going to sit here and defend Biden or his administration, or his party. Nearly the whole of the US government (if not the whole of it) is complicit and accessory to the willful genocide of Palestinians, and are directly and openly supporting a fascist, genocidal colonial state. My country has been a long standing pillar of Zionist ideology if not one of the cornerstones of it. Notable Zionist figures (Former Israeli Ambassador to the US Ron Dermer said "People have to understand that the backbone of Israel's support in the United States is the Evangelical Christians") have declared that American Evangelicals are one of Zionism's greatest allies, and I'm not going to deny that either.
Secondly, I completely understand and agree with those that have become disillusioned with the Democratic party, especially since the current situation with the genocide in Gaza. I have no intention of voting for a majority of the Democrats I voted for before over the matter, such as Raphael Warnock, who my roommate reached out to about demanding a ceasefire, only to be met with Zionist rhetoric and a promise to "take it into consideration". (Warnock also worked on the committe that drafted KOSA, and also intends to vote in favor of it once it's out of committee.)
And I'm sure many of you across the globe are well aware of the absolute shit hole our political arena is. Specifically, in this case, how our party system works. There's no law preventing more than two parties, but the parties we have rigged the game in such a way that it is near impossible to have a viable party outside of them. Which brings me to my supposed point.
Telling voters to "just vote third party" isn't really the answer you might think it is. I WISH it was that simple. I LIVE for the day when it's that simple. But it isn't, and unless a GREAT MANY THINGS happen between now and the next election, this will not chang this election cycle. Political movements can take years/decades to build, and in the US your opposition WILL create every obstacle they can -although money is usually all they need to accomplish that end, and the monetary corruption in US politics is insane. We would need an actual miracle to have a viable third party before we have to elect a new president.
With that being said, I would also like to point out that the answer also isnt to vote Republican. Most of the US evangelicals espouse the Republican party, and a Republican president would be doing exactly the same thing Biden is doing now, if not worse. Because Zionism isn't a party issue, it's baked into the whole system. Which is going to make voting Anti-Zionist exceptionally difficult.
The Republicans have shown us time and again who they are. They've been saying all the quiet parts out loud for years now and we need to believe them. Voting Republican is not the answer.
As much as I would love to make a massive shift away from Zionism and genocide, I have to reconcile with the fact that this will take decades, and we have issues right now that need addressing here at home. There are lines that are tenuously being held and we need to keep holding them.
Until there is a viable third party, the best we can start with is harm reduction. That also means voting for candidates that are far less from ideal. I am going to assume Biden will be nominated for reelection, but I sure as hell am not voting for him to be. Unfortunately, if he is, I will, because Republicans have been crowing about their hate boners for the poor, disabled, LGBTQ+, children, POC, women's rights, education, social programs, etc etc, and so on. I don't want to vote for Genocide Joe, but I WILL NOT vote for a Republican and I will not piss away my vote on what are currently functionally non existent third parties.
I am going to actively vote against the party that has shown their hand at wanting me and my loved ones dead or disenfranchised, and I'm going to vote against the presidential candidate this is most likely to let them get away with it. But I am also putting the other party on notice; I will not blindly vote for them just because "they're not the other guy". I am going to work to snatch your seat if you prove to be more harmful than you're worth.
While there may be obvious solutions to these situations, there is nothing fast or easy about these solutions. Change is a long game and we need to start playing it now. And, by the same token, holding the lines we've been able to cross since last election is equally important.
#US politics#politics#evangelicalism#I'm fine with discussing this but keep your clowning to yourself

Friendly reminder that Congress is back in session this Monday (4/8/2024), and they're gonna be pushing KOSA hard, so we need to push back on it.
So, keep calling your Reps over these next two weeks, we need to keep at it to kill this bill dead.
WELL, SHIT.
So, Kosa is almost certainly going to pass the Senate, almost entirely just as bad and censorious as it ever was, but, that just means we need to take the fight to The House of Representatives, because that's where it's going now.
So, find your reps' numbers here and call them ASAP.
And this is bipartisan too, it's not just the Dems that might be swayed against this due to the well documented threats to LGBTQ people it presents, I'm sure even the right-wingers would not be happy to sign on a bill that's likely to lead to government-mandated facial scans for everyone using the net., along with the encroachment of actual big-government on our freedom of speech.
So, call now, call often, and if you want a further follow-through on this, there's a discord server organizing to fight this that you can join here.
And of course, as per usual, I make this poster available under a CC0 Public Domain License for anyone to use, complete with added QR-codes for use in actual physical prints. Now hop to it!

GOOD NEWS:
digital rights group Fight for the Future just issued this statement:
“KOSA was a poorly written bill that would have made kids less safe. I am so proud of the LGBTQ youth and frontlines advocates who have led the opposition to this dangerous and misguided legislation. It’s good that this unconstitutional censorship bill is dead for now, but I am not breathing a sigh of relief. It’s infuriating that Congress wasted so much time and energy on a deeply flawed and controversial bill while failing to advance real measures to address the harms of Big Tech like privacy, antitrust and algorithmic justice legislation.
"By insisting on pushing KOSA over the objections of human rights groups and LGBTQ youth, Senate leadership actively helped Big Tech avoid real regulation. We cannot allow this to happen again. It’s time for all advocates and lawmakers who want to address the very real harm of Big Tech to unite. KOSA was always too controversial to succeed, and divided our coalition. If we want to take on Big Tech and win, we have to quickly regroup and make a plan for next Congress. We need strong privacy, antitrust, and algorithmic justice legislation that address the harms of Big Tech without endangering free expression and human rights.
"Young people need to be protected. They also need to have their rights respected. KOSA did neither. Let’s put this awful bill behind us and fight for real policies that crack down on Big Tech abuses without throwing marginalized youth under the bus.”
Bad news. KOSA advanced.
Continue calling your representatives and tell them to vote no on KOSA. It passed the Senate Commerce Committee, not the full Senate, we still have time.
STOP KOSA NOW.

I don't think there's a certain way one is "supposed to" look or feel in their 30s . I know that aging is a part of life that we all experience, but that doesn't mean that I can't amp up my beauty routine as I progress through life. Some embrace the signs of aging; I've chosen to fight them in the most noninvasive ways that I can for now. Truth be told, I have always looked young for my age. (Just an example: When I was 11, I was being cast as 7-year-olds in plays.) Even now, at 35 years old, I get carded from time to time and get a lot of comments from strangers about not looking my age when I share it. I like to think that my current skincare routine has something to do with that—at least I hope so, given the amount of time and money I spend on it. (It's worth noting that something I don't often spend money on is facials—I prefer to invest in products I can use again and again). As you know, one of the most important things you can do to offset aging is to avoid the sun, which I've always done (save for a few of my teenage years…). I wear sunscreen every single day, and if you don't, it's definitely never too late to start. Aside from that, read for the details of my daily beauty routine from morning to night, including makeup, and shop the products I swear by (like my holy-grail sunscreen). I don't get enough sleep, and my morning routine is usually pretty rushed, so I focus on trying to fake looking awake and protecting my skin from the elements. I know the price seems high for a face wash, but I've been using this for years, and it's worth it. It's mildly exfoliating and never leaves my dry skin feeling tight. You've probably heard how important vitamin C—and the antioxidants that come along with it—and ferulic acid are for your skin, so I always start with this. It has a subtle brightening effect, but I mostly use it for the damage-prevention factor. I love a serum, and this one has so much good stuff in it. And it absorbs instantly, making it a great option for busy mornings. If you're just starting to use anti-aging products, this is a great place to start. I shake a bit of this into the above serum before applying, and the skin-brightening effects are truly instant. You can shake it into any product, so it's completely error-proof. Plus, antioxidants! This is the product on this list I've been using the longest by far. It applies like a beautiful lightweight moisturizer and has zero scent. Plus, the SPF is very high, but it doesn't leave a white cast. I've re-bought it countless times over the years. Can't forget about the sensitive eye area. This cream is very light and sinks right in. I apply it right after my sunscreen. Bonus: It helps combat the signs of aging. I don't know about you, but my eyes can be very red when I wake up (might have something to do with only getting six hours of sleep). I put one drop of this in each eye, and they're perfectly white and clear in seconds. Plus, it doesn't burn. Not sure how I ever lived without it. I don't really leave the house without makeup on, but I definitely don't wear a lot of it. I find that heavy, dramatic makeup is aging on me, so I keep things fresh and light with the focus being on rosy cheeks and dewy skin. I don't know how they do it, but this provides great coverage yet stays really sheer. I can't stand heavy foundation, and this one is light and applies beautifully. I mix a drop of this serum with my foundation for a little bit of a bronze glow (which I need thanks to that SPF 46). I'd use it even if it didn't have anti-pollution antioxidants, so it's a big added bonus that it does. This just-released color corrector has already become a staple in my makeup routine (because six hours of sleep). I apply it before my concealer, and my dark circles are basically gone. You've probably heard the rave reviews about this cult-favorite concealer. Well, they're all true, and I'll never stop buying it. Pricey? Yes. Worth it? Yep. This stuff is magic when it comes to hiding imperfections, and it blends so well. Plus, my last tube lasted a good two to three years, so there's that. I always struggle with finding a pressed setting powder that doesn't look chalky. I started using this one a few months ago, and it's nice and sheer and natural, just how I like it. I love cream blushes and find them to be more youthful and dewier (obviously) than their powder counterparts. Kosas really excels at them, and I love the pretty complementary highlighter it's paired with. I love light, shimmery eye color, and this one is perfection. It's nice and light but has just enough pigment. I always apply a bit at my lower lash line, too, to brighten things up. I've tried a lot of the other cult eyelash curlers, and everyone has their favorite, but this one is the best. You can quote me. Dramatic mascaras and all their clumpy-lash outcomes are not for me. Glossier Lash Slick is my ride-or-die, as it doesn't clump or smudge and makes lashes look impossibly long. I find black eyeliner to be aging, so brown it is for me. This one is nice and rich and applies easily (which is great for me since I'm terrible at applying eyeliner). If you like a nice fluffy brow that's just the tiniest bit polished, you must try this. (Take a look at the Sephora reviews if you want further proof.) It also comes in six shades, so finding one that will look natural on you is a cinch. I've been through multiple tubes of Dior Lip Glow, and I never get tired of it. It has the perfect hint of color and actually stays on even though it feels like a balm. The focus of my evening routine is on anti-aging and repairing. I have dry skin, so I stay away from anything too harsh, but I've found that my skin can handle more acids and exfoliants as I get older. That said, I've had to find alternatives to strong retinols, as they're much too drying for me. This is my go-to evening cleanser, as it foams up really nicely, and I feel that it takes the day off. And like my morning cleanser, it doesn't leave my skin with that dreaded tight feeling. Plus, you can get it at the drugstore or on Amazon. TG for Shani Darden and her gentle retinol products (including Retinol Reform, which I also love). It's the only form of retinol I've been able to use that doesn't make my skin red and flaky, and the results are really noticeable. My lines are undoubtedly softer since I started using it. Speaking of Shani Darden, this is the perfect lightweight moisturizer. I often apply it over the retinol (or other strong products) when my skin is feeling parched. A few nights a week, I use this Versed miracle worker, and I wake up with a nice glow whenever I do. It works just as well as (if not better than) its pricier counterparts. It gently removes dead skin cells while hydrating. Genius. I honestly don't know how or why this serum works, but the second I put it on, my skin is instantly brighter and "glowy." It's a little pricey to use every night, but goals. Plus, it smells AMAZING. Shaba Complex is really gentle—so much so that you can put it on your eyelids. Just reading the description of this convinced me, and so far, I'm happy with the results: "A satiny eye serum formulated with a powerhouse of ingredients to tackle the major signs of aging under and around the eyes such as fine lines, wrinkles, and sun damage for a rested, more youthful appearance." I think full brows can really be effective in achieving that youthful look, so I've been investing in Revitabrow for years. It works like no other. This is very hydrating, stays on, and isn't sticky, all of which are requirements for me in a nighttime lip balm. I also love the yummy coconut smell. Not the prettiest tube but definitely the best hand cream I've ever tried. I wash my hands a lot, and they're one of the first things to show age, so I'll use whatever works. And this works. Below are a few products that I don't use every night but that I always have on hand and highly recommend. This cream is rich, but in the winter and post-travel, it's what my skin craves. It really plumps the skin, and when I apply it before bed, my dry patches are gone by morning. Heads-up: Tatcha's Friends and Family Sale (20% off sitewide!) starts tomorrow, October 13, and goes through October 20. Sounds like a good time to stock up. This is one of the first skincare products I invested in years ago, and I still use it to this day. It's the perfect exfoliant, in my opinion. It really gets the job done without being harsh and drying. This is my favorite mask to use before a special occasion or just when my skin looks particularly dull and needs tightening up. It only takes 10 minutes to work its magic, and as the description states, it will leave you with baby-soft skin. Like I've said many times throughout this story, I love glow-inducing products, and this is one of my favorites. I use it about once a week under my moisturizer for gentle exfoliation and brightening. In case you want even more of my beauty insight, here are the 14 beauty products I never pack when I travel (and 21 I do) .

Get the bold lip look
Because many of them are taking an appearance. Somehow it seems effortlessly sophisticated, capricious, polished and bold, all-in-one! When I asked the beautiful Jane Levy whether she was thinking about the makeup you wanted for this event, I was happy when she suggested that we go and told me to choose the colour. What I put on your lips in these photos is a combination of two lipsticks: Revenge de Nudus and Electra de Kosas, both of which are excellent brands of non-toxic lipstick that knows how to make bright and beautiful colours with a satin finish.
Keeping an exciting and bold lip in place all day/wedding/ great date/night in town is not as scary as you think. This is what you will need:
Basic Supplies:
Peeling lips. This is the key, whether it is a product such as warm Elijah nights, or peeled lips for Jean Eredal, or even creamy cherry cream from Bite Beauty. I am also a big fan of gentle daily peeling in the bathroom with a towel or a piece of gauze. If a problem occurs, wipe the make-up and draw soft circles or long lines on your lips to remove excess skin cells that may still hang. It seems quite amazing to see small pieces of dead skin trapped inside lipstick, which are really quick preparations.
LABIAL BALM. The conditioner should already be moisturized, but not greasy. I am a big fan of this one from Linden RL. I like to work a little on the lips and then ask my clients to kiss his back several times to get rid of 80%. Fat lips will not cling to the touch of the lips.
Color of lips. I often mix two attractive lips to get real individual shades, ideally with a non-glossy texture. The lower the emollient, the better it will stick to your lips in the next few hours.
LIP Liner. Make sure that the color of the eyeliner corresponds to the lipstick color. At this point, there are very few brightly colored lipsticks in the green beauty scene. If this is the case with your favorite lip color, I suggest you use a sharp-edged brush to make sure you have a fine line.
How to get a look of BOLD LOOK:
One step If you're interested in bleeding around the lips, you have two options: apply a transparent layer of a lower or concealer emollient base to the lips and around the lips, blend and squeeze it with a cosmetic blender so that it cannot be detected or traced. Line your lips with a wax pen on the outside edge to prevent color leakage into fine lines.
The second step. Always press some blemishes on my lips, and then ask my clients to squeeze their lips on a thin sheet of napkin. This eliminates excess oil from the concealer, leaving only a little product to remove part of the natural lip color for a uniform application, and some texture you will adhere to lipstick.
The third step. When I want a hard cover (instead of a transparent effect, such as stains), I apply the first layer directly from the tube, avoiding the edges of the lips if I don't think I can color inside the lines.
Step 4: Ask my clients to kiss the same paper from the handkerchief to remove the oils again from the first layer, and then, with a brush, apply a second layer of lip color.
Step Five. I will use the brush with the least amount of products to create a soft lipstick rim, or if I have a liner with a matching color, I will make sure it is gentle and sharp, and then I will gently tighten the lips. If I accidentally paint off the lines, I will use some concealer on a small cotton swab or a small brush to remove the color and then use a more concealer to suit the skin.
Step 6. One last tip I learned from my grandmother, who used a bold lip every time you left the house: take a cotton swab, do as if you were blowing a kiss; To the other. You will pick up the extra lip color that would have reached your teeth!
